Tomorrow I will be calling our independent insurance agent to get them shopping for an alternative to the AARP-Hartford insurance. We have been with this program for a number of years, bundling home and auto. Yes, the rates keep going up each year, which is to be expected. Last year seemed on the excessive side, but I let it roll. Today I realized that they are proposing a 71% increase in our premium for 2026 to 2027. What?! We are mature adult drivers with less than 10,000 annual miles of driving. My husband had a recent minor accident, but I don't believe that has even entered into the calculation for the new premium. There was no damage to the other car, very minimal damage to ours, and no injuries. No tickets or other accidents on record. 71%? What I see online is other consumers reporting that their rates were going up 45 to 50% in a number of cases. Once they shopped other providers, they were able to get much better deals. I sure hope that will be the case when our agent shops options for us. Just on general principal, I want to get away from Hartford as soon as possible! It's a good thing our renewal time is almost here, and we will be moving on away from them. This was on March 19 - we have not been able to get any repairs done yet!!! (claim #PA0021468617) However, the insured had a different car within two weeks of the claim being submitted (which the insured did not do - the Association the duplexes are in had to file the claim. Our property looks horrible - the homeowners are at their wits end - we are looking at over 100 degree weather here shortly and need to get this labor-intensive work done within the next two weeks! The accident happened on March 19th - it is not May 21st....We had this nightmare dumped on us because of the Hartford's insured - yet we have had roadblocks at every turn. My complaint is against the TRUELANE App and the fact that Hartford uses it to determine our driving skills and insurance rate. Truelane is flawed and unreliable. Example: My wife and I are in the same vehicle and are both being tracked and both listed as the "Driver" on the trip. Truelane identifies 2 hardstops for me and 0 hardstops for the wife. Have Auto insurance and home owner's insurance with The Hartford for over a year. Consistently paid in full and on time. We thought we were on autopay when our last payment wasn't processed and The Hartford cancelled our auto policy without bothering to send us any type of notification about it. For 3 weeks we had no car insurance without even realizing it. When we found out about it by mere chance, we immediately contacted The Hartford and they told us that since a few weeks passed they can not reinstate the policy. Not only is there no relationship with this insurance company but the actually violate consumer law that requires them to properly notify you about a policy cancellation especially as a result of a missed payment. I become a client of The Hartford AARP (auto coverage) in May 25, upon getting a quote for auto coverage I was really happy with the quote provided. Just a short year later my premium increased by 35% for a retired individual that only drives 10 miles per day. I was told the Truelane app tracked me as driving fast and braking hard. I purchased my insurance policy at the end of 2025. I pay the whole policy of over $1000. I will never told that if I did not download the app that there be $150 charge and that will avoid my contract for not the app on February 16 I noticed a pending cancellation. I found in my experience and opinion with Hartford when I mentioned the AARP Ad they turned unfriendly... let's face it the older we are the more likely we might have a driving accident (minor in a parking lot number issue in my case) in our lives. The verbal discussion on their end leaves nothing to the imagination that Hartford in my case was SO BIAS and PREJUDICE against the aged and AARP membership that the representative said "we just want clients with clear and perfect records not ones that have a past". Really?? So now you reader have been warned...if you are not PERFECT then don't bother with Hartford. From the other reviews it is obvious that once you aren't perfect any longer Hartford becomes completely PREJUDICE against you just like they were when I called for a quote... Would like to give zero stars. Quoted me a lower rate so I went ahead with the policy to be effective in 2 months when our other insurance was going to renew. Two days later I received an email that we needed a home inspection to continue coverage. This wasn't disclosed during the quote or the sign up for the insurance. I moved to Hartford Auto and Home Insurance, due to them having a relationship with AARP. To my surprise renewing after a year, my auto insurance increased by $500, my previous insurance had not increased for years. No claims or tickets or anything had taken place. If that wasn't bad enough, my home insurance was scrutinized and I received a non-renewal notice because of my wood burning stove. I did not find this out until I'd been on the plan for the entire year. The inspector did not say anything when he was at the house, and the company said they sent an email, which I could not locate even after they gave me the date of when they sent it. No letter or anything, but they surely sent a letter of non-renewal. When I called, it was matter of fact, even when I stated that was the first I'd heard we needed further inspection of our stove. Terrible customer service, terrible that they increased their rates so significantly. I should have never left my last insurance company. Their roadside assistance company does not accept their plan unless Hartford tells them you are a customer. So, with Hartford being closed on the weekend, and their roadside assistance company not having a way to contact Hartford, they will not respond unless you agree to an exorbitant price which you may or may not be able to obtain a full or partial refund by submitting a manual reimbursement claim during the workweek.
