This year's 'The Hasty Pudding Theatricals' Man and Woman of the Year Awards went to Bob Odenkirk and Jennifer Coolidge. This was truly her year as she had also won a Golden Globe for her work in The White Lotus. This year's show - Cosmic Relief! - runs 2/5/2023 - 3/5/2023 locally at Farkas Hall before heading on the road for a two night run in NYC, followed by 3 nights in Bermuda. This Harvard affiliate theater does a wide variety of shows and definitely sticks to it's roots by supporting Harvard student theater. I saw the undergrad production of Children of Eden here this weekend and was really impressed by the space. Pretty classy and spacious for a student show. I attended this spring's production at Hasty Pudding - "There's Something About Maui." Humor was a balance of witty puns and overt sarcastic takes on the school, community and society at large. A great way to get away from everyday life and laugh at yourself. Cast was great - clearly well rehearsed and very engaging. I hate to write this review but it needs to be said. 30+ years ago, when I was an undergrad, I loved the Pudding. Most shows were packed. It WAS great entertainment and one of Harvard's oldest traditions. I even had my graduation dinner at The Pudding. And, 30 years ago people asked "Why aren't women allowed in the pudding?" Even then, the Director (a woman) said "If women were in it, it wouldn't be The Pudding." So true. Well, 30 years later, equal opportunity said that women should be in The Pudding. I was in the area on 2/14/20 so I figured I'd put my opinion aside and give it a try. They all did a great job but, with 75% female, it is no longer The Pudding. It's just not the same. If it were a female tradition somewhere, I'd say the same. Leave it alone. I'll never go again. read more

This year's show was the first Hasty Pudding show I've been to, there's a different one every year. I don't know what other shows were like, but "France France Revolution" was truly one of the best shows I've ever been to! It's hysterically funny and very, very entertaining. It's hard to believe that everyone involved is a student because everything is professional quality - the actors, sets, etc. I can't say enough good things about it. Tickets are inexpensive ($25.00), the theatre is small so there are no bad seats, the theatre itself is beautiful....and did I mention the show was great? Truly, if you're reading this get your tickets right now because you don't want to miss it. read more

Kashmir if you Can - You certainly didn't need to DRAG me here. I would have CAMPed out to watch this. I have not laughed this hard for a very long time. Side-splitting laughter. The kind where you wake up the next day and your ribs are sore. When they invented "LOL" this is what they were talking about. Hasty Pudding puts on a show which is reminiscent of a British pantomime, incorporating song, dance, buffoonery, slapstick, cross-dressing, in-jokes, topical references and sexual innuendo. All that was missing was the audience participation - "Oh no they didn't! Oh yes they did!" The costumes were magnificent, the actors very talented, the writers gifted - even the cookies were divine. The show has a very limited run, so see them now while you have a chance! read more

A wonderful show! I would encourage anyone who's in the Boston area to go watch a performance. The history of this theatrical group will amaze you! Be certain to bring your wallet because you're going to want to savor the tasty items at the snack bar! You also won't want to leave empty handed after you see the souvenirs on sale. The souvenirs are very well thought out and cater to all ages. They are a great way to remember a wonderful theatre experience. The performance is a must see for any theatre goer!!! I hardly knew what drag was before my boyfriend and I went to the Pudding to watch a show (it was on our list of things to do before we move away from Cambridge). It was really impressive. For some of the guys, you forget they're really guys (oops!). All of the guys are really funny. The jokes are good and the acting is even better. -1 star because of the high price (it's justified by the great costumes and overall production, but still, it's high). read more

ngl this review only exists so i could get a free sticker I honestly did not think anything could make my senioritis any more severe than it already is but this show did just that. this is exactly the kind of program i want to be a part of in college. HPT 171 France France Revolution was easily one of the most entertaining pieces of theatre i have watched. it was absolutely hysterical and gave me major Monty Python vibes tbh. Would absolutely recommend to anyone with this sense of humor. When Desdemona said "don't let a boy make your face into a watercolor" i felt that. Hopefully when I go see HPT 172 i will not have to sit next to my parents and pretend that all of the sex jokes are going over my head. Just saw HPT 171, France France Revolution. This was the second production I've seen here and I will not return. The constant political humor is funny for about 5 minutes, and then it becomes predictable and boring. It is obvious that these students have talent and energy, but their skills and efforts are wasted. I know there are many great reviews of Hasty Pudding productions, and many of my friends love them. I just don't get it. I won't return. read more

i am not a theater guy. put me in a chair, turn off the lights, and have a bunch of people emoting in front of me and i'm likely to (a) fall asleep or (b) start throwing shit at the actors. i've done one, and come very close to the other. i'll let you guess which is which. it might not be the one you think. my main issue with theaters, other than what goes on inside of them, is they are typically cramped and genuinely uncomfortable. but, i kept hearing about this hasty pudding thing at harvard. after getting an email from my alumni association offering tickets to "acropolis now" i decided to check it out. the theater is actually very nice. it's conveniently located near the harvard t stop. housed in a building that looks more like an academic center or classrooms, i was surprised by the amount of space inside. nevertheless, the space feels intimate as all of the seats are relatively close to the moderately sized stage. seating is all in one area so no one is stuck way up in a balcony or mezzanine. the seats are comfy and well spaced so you have some room to stretch out. the theater is arranged stadium-style, so you don't have to worry about getting stuck behind some tall dude and missing the show. like most theaters, the bathrooms turned into a war zone during intermission, but that's to be expected. it is a little odd, however, that the bathrooms are only on one level, accessed by a narrow hallway just a few rows up from the stage and a flight of stairs below the entry level. i suppose that can make for some good drama if you head back out to the lobby for intermission in dire need. WILL HE MAKE IT?! ::gasp:: the troupe itself is great and the show was very well done. if you get a chance to check them out, i recommend you take it. read more

I couldn't believe the level of talent that this show holds. These college students perform 40 shows in less than two months and it is truly Broadway quality. The humor and originality that comes out of each new show every year is incredible. The new director and 8 new cast members really bring this production to a new level while still preserving the same-old Pudding traditions and style. 10/10 you MUST see this if you are visiting Harvard or the Boston-area over the next few weeks. read more

There Will Be Flood - Feb 2012. So, let me start off by saying that the execution by the actors in this show was really good. They were clearly well-rehearsed and one could tell that they put in a lot of work learning the songs and dances. The same can be said about the set, props, and costumes. Unfortunately, despite how good these elements of the show were, the content of the show itself was terrible - it just wasn't funny. Most jokes relied on bad puns such as "if you show me your skin, I'll show you my bone" or "Eve was made from a baby back rib." Finally, it should be mentioned that over 1/4 of the audience left after the first intermission. read more

I've been coming forever and every year the show somehow gets better! Still find it hard to believe that such a high-quality production is put on entirely by students. The performances, costumes, and script are all impeccable. Theatre is clean and conveniently located. I paid $40 and it was totally worth it, but definitely keep your eyes peeled for deals.
