I cannot believe this is my first time attending the American Repertory Theater... because it is one of the best theaters in Boston. The show was as big as Broadway, with a chorus of 15 performers and no week links. The sets were intricate. The performances were evocative. The musical numbers were original and unforgettable. THE DEAL: The American repertory theater is one of the closest experiences you can get to Broadway... In Boston

i saw wonder here and had a great time! i forgot my seat number, but i was like second or third row from the stage. i got lottery tickets from todaytix and my ticket was $50. the legroom is decent and staff was great! they had a "stagedoor" afterwards for actors to come out and say hello and sign the "playbill." most people came out for the show i saw! i'd recommend doing dinner beforehand if you're doing dinner and a show, but there are some locations close by if you do dinner after. great venue and setup!

The AmRep is one of the best places on Earth. Every seat is wonderful. No blocked views. None too far away. There's standing space for last minutes tickets for cheapsies too. I've seen several shows here that then went on to Broadway for pennies on the dollar compared to their eventual Broadway rates AND you're supporting new shows and a growing theater scene.

A simple walk from the Harvard Square T stop, the theater is a few blocks down Brattle Street on the left. There is plenty of room to stand or sit while waiting indoors before the theater doors open. It is a cozy theater with a nice rise between rows so the person's head in front of you doesn't block your view too much, but if someone wants to pass by to get to their seat, you would likely have to make room for them to get by. They validate for parking at the Charles Square Garage (One Bennett St.) and the University Place Garage (124 Mt. Auburn St.). And a coat rack is available in the hallway to the left of the ticket windows. PS - Wild Swans was really good! I also liked how they decorated the walls with artwork specific to the performance. *** 1/2013 *** Pippin was grand! And it was neat - for the circus style show, they had a popcorn/sausage stand out in the lobby! The chicken fingers were crisp and flavorful. Just FYI - local Brattle Street parking is meter till 8pm Mon-Sat with a 2 hour limit. *** 5/2013 *** Pirates of Penzance is a Gilbert and Sullivan musical which I have never seen before even though for some reason "I am the very model of a modern Major-General" exists somewhere in my mind's history... At 80 minutes with a 1 minute intermission, it was terrific fun, with the audience sitting among the actors in an unusual set up, and hurried away whenever the actors were about to perform right where an audience member was sitting. The music was live with instruments residing in the arms of the actors throughout the show. Not only was there the usual bar out in the lobby, and a food vendor situated out there as well (2nd time I ever saw them at an ART performance), but there was a bar INSIDE the theater which was available for patrons during the whole of the two act performance. I had a terrific time! *** 1/2018 *** Bedlam's Sense & Sensibility was AWESOME! So entertaining and so much fun! And my first Theater in the Round style seating experience at the A.R.T. It runs till January 14, 2018. The remaining evening shows seem to be sold out according to their website, but there are still some tickets left for the 2pm shows this weekend... just saying... PS - their mulled apple cider $3 is pretty good.

Yeah! I waited for 2 hours 30 minutes! Too late to buy standing or cancel ticket. Another 2 hours and 30 minutes then I got ticket! I was expecting little cheaper but $110 it worth it! Amazing production Jagged Little Pill. And Thank you for the theater fantastic production!!

On May 16th my best friend and I went to go see the Jagged Little Pill the musical . Both of us are big Alanis fans . Ok, I am one of the biggest Alanis fans that you will ever meet. I was counting down the days until the show . Neither of us have ever been to this venue before . Our seats were perfect . The staff were so helpful and polite . The place was spotless and the bathrooms were so clean. The cast was absolutely amazing . You couldn't pick a better cast for each roll. Their voices were outstanding . The show was funny , sad, happy , energetic, didn't drag , slightly political ( poking fun ) . The Acoustics in this place were amazing . I honestly didn't want the show to end . It was a sold out show and at the end of the show they got a well deserved standing ovation!! We will definitely be back for another show as soon as possible . We had such a great night and we were singing all night . Bravo

Tickets are community theater expensive (only 25!) and the quality of show is off-broadway great. I love this theater!

They were such great instructors and the class was really well structured - they covered everything from basic moves to walks, personas and twirling tassels. They kicked it off with a routine (which blew our minds and also gave a good introduction to those who hadn't seen burlesque before) and talked about burlesque as a celebration of sexuality, art, performance, etc. They coached us through practicing all the moves. It was very comfortable, not embarrassing at all. And so much fun, especially if you have a couple drinks before. The instructors rented a dance studio at the Armory in Somerville, which was a great space. I would highly recommend ensuring that the studio you rent has a mirror. I can't imagine doing the class otherwise, it really helps to see what you're doing! If you go to the Armory, check out Highland Kitchen for drinks before - it's just a couple blocks away and has an awesome cocktail menu. We only had two thoughts that they could do to improve the class - one would be to write out a list of tips for us to leave with, so we don't forget (they had so many great pointers it was hard to remember them all). And the other was maybe to teach us a routine. The end of the class was just freestyle (which was totally fun), but we agreed that it would have been fun to learn a short routine.

The group learned how to walk, shimmy, trace, and bump according to our newly acquired personas and ended up in tassel-filled dance party. Reasonable private lesson rate and very professional. The experience of getting tickets at…read morethe box office leaves a lot to be desired, though, so I'd suggest considering whether you want to brave the box office or just pay the extra fees to order online. In today's box office experience, I showed up during the normal box office hours, but the ticket window facing the outside of the building was curtained off, the door to the building was locked, and the inside box office door (which I could see through the transparent building door) was closed. I called the box office and they let me in, but maybe some clarifying signage (along the lines of "yes, we are open") would be useful. When I asked about purchasing a specific pair of tickets, the person in the box office initially stated there were no seats available in the row where I requested seats, although I could see seat availability showing up in my phone app. After we looked at the phone app together so I could better understand the discrepancy, they did confirm that the seats the app was showing were available and booked tickets for those seats. I also had quite a difficult time using a promotion for $25 tickets they had emailed me. First the person in the box office said that the promotion only applied to the seats that are always $25 dollars (although the promotion email said "all seats"), then they said the promotion had expired (although the promotion email said it was valid through midnight today), then they said that the promotion only applied to some show dates (although the promotion email said it applied to "all performances"). After we looked at the email together to try to sort through these differences, they let me book according to the terms in the email.

The seating however is always raised, and the theater cozy, so seats with a bad view are highly unlikely. One thing that I think was new this season is that they've taken to decorating the waiting area for each performance, which I find to be great fun. Refreshments purchased at the concessions stand are allowed into the theater. One thing I notice that they make sure to tell the audience before every show - they love their subscribers. Blocks of seats are saved for their subscribers, and I think that they also get free parking. This theater is an easy walk from the Central Square T, and is located on the same block as Mary Chung's. *** 8/2011 *** With the new season they've changed from open seating to assigned seating. So buy your tickets early for a better selection of seats. The theater gets chilly sometimes, so consider bringing a sweater. *** 10/2012 *** Validation tickets for the University Park @ MIT Garage - 55 Franklin Street are available to all CST patrons at the Will Call Counter for parking after 5pm on weekdays and all day on weekends for a max of 5 hours. Parking for $5? Nice! PS - they sell a soda pop sweetened with cane sugar here - I recommend the cherry. *** 11/2013 *** 2013-2014 is the 3rd season that the Central Square Theater is playing "Arabian Nights" based on "One Thousand and One Nights." I highly recommend going to see it - it is terrific and I've seen it both seasons prior and am scheduled to watch it this December also. For Black Friday through Cyber Monday, the tickets are $35 (vs up to $61), or 4-Play Subscriptions (peak) are $100 (vs $163 regular price). *** 8/2014 *** For those with little ones, Central Square Theater has begun offering a Date Night with optional childcare ($20 for the first child aged 6 and up, $5 for any additional children) for specific nights. The kids get to watch a movie, while the parents enjoy the show. Something else new was a pre-show MicroTheater performance of "Othella" which began in the stairwell and headed into the lobby. Theater, right in your face. It was cool. It was scheduled to accompany the performance of "Her Aching Heart" as part of their Central Conversations series of discussions and special events. *** 12/2015 *** The fifth and final run of the holiday special "Arabian Nights." See it while you can! This season CST no longer decorated the lobby area specific to each show, but you can still enjoy whiling away the time till the theater doors open, relaxing at one of a number of small tables or checking out the framed photos of past shows hanging on the wall. They sell snacks and drinks that can be taken with you into the theater - I highly recommend the oatmeal cookies. But my beloved cherry soda is no longer available here, as they've changed brands. I loved how they wove together the tales of the Little Match Girl and the Happy Prince in "Matchless & The Happy Prince." I admit it - I got a bit teary eyed at one point. *** 12/2016 *** CST has changed their restrooms to be All Gender shared restrooms as they believe that everyone should have a safe place to use the bathroom. What does that mean? It means anyone can choose to visit either of their previously labeled Men's and Ladies' restrooms. It also means that if will make you feel safe, you may ask a staff member to accompany you to the restroom. What I didn't like was how you could peek in (and out) of the stalls through the gaps around the door - well, no more! They've installed privacy covers which makes your going private from accidental eyes.
