However, when you step into Cinful Sweets, it feels like you have walked into a Parisian chocolate shop. There's a beautiful paper collage on the wall that is quite striking and immediately grabs your attention. In addition, two walls are covered with magazine articles regarding Cinful Sweets. Apparently, they are a pretty big deal with articles in several prominent magazines. The chocolates are displayed in a way that makes you want to select one of each. You are allowed one chocolate sample per visit. Once I tasted the chocolate, I was an instant Cinful convert. The chocolate is rich, smooth and melts in your mouth. I was looking for chocolate for the hubs for our anniversary, and Cinful Sweets was the welcomed choice. My purchases included a red heart, chocolate bear and some sugar treats (ok...I confess, the sugar treats were for me). Smile. I got the opportunity to meet the owner and certified chocolatier Cinthya Romriell. She was super sweet with a genteel demeanor. Cinthya said she trained under some of the world's most renowned chocolatiers. The quality of the chocolate is outstanding. Last year, the 1st time we used Michelle, we gave her an idea we had and she just ran with it - she ended up making a beautiful white cake with strawberry filling that had the 1st 6 music notes to Happy Birthday to You across the top with a little 3-D gum paste figure of Nakia singing into a microphone. I posted pictures of the 1st cake he got from me and my bestie Susan that he was so totally blown away with. (He still has the gum paste likeness in his freezer.) This year I sent her a picture of his new fan-financed CD, Drowning In The Crimson Tide, and had asked her to incorporate the CD cover onto the cake. She kept me abreast of what she was doing and when she delivered the cake at The Saxon Pub, it was nothing short of AMAZING!!! She made a cake with a bottom ring on top of a mirror with a "crimson tide" going around the sides with a top tier that she painted to look like Nakia's CD cover. And to top it all off, the top tier of the cake rotated! she totally outdid herself with this over-the-top cake and Nakia really LOVED it. I told her that she can expect an order for a cake for his birthday every year from now on. I have also received birthday cakes made by Michelle for my last 3 birthdays - the 1st one was of a 2-D white baby tiger, the 2nd one was of Hello Kitty's head and this last one was of a red, white and blue Japanese dragon in honor of my Ameerican and Japanese heritage. Even the eyes were of my eye color (hazel) and the detail was totally outstanding! I have had nothing but wonderful cakes made by Michelle. Lavish Cakes honored our wishes without any attempt to talk us into a 6-tier fondant covered monstrosity. Of course if that is what you want, I am sure they could make a gorgeous cake for you! As a communication instructor, communication was the biggest priority for me and Sophie was a complete pro. Communication from start to finish was prompt and excellent! Sophie even brought up details that I hadn't even thought about. Her patience, kindness, and upbeat attitude made planning the party a breeze! For the party, MVTPC provided the catering, service, and decor--and there was loads of decor! From the gorgeous vintage teacups to amazing vintage bronze unicorn statute, my sister's house was transformed into a magical 1920's Gatsby mansion. I have to mention the food, which drew rave reviews from all party guests. We had french macaroons (in Lavender, Rose, and Pistachio flavors), croissants, quiche, chocolate mousse cups, and petit fours (champagne strawberry). The petit fours are not to be missed! We also had a punch station that featured an ice ring filled with fruit and flowers (side note: MVTPC does not supply alcohol, but will serve it for you. It was extremely easy and actually more cost efficient for us to buy our own booze anyway). Finally, I have nothing but the highest praise for the MVTPC staff. The hosts/hostesses were polite, prompt, friendly, and engaging. Setup and clean up were quick and efficient and didn't interrupt the party festivities at all! There was much more food, as well, all of which were delectable! Her staff at my party, Dylan, Crystal, and Anna, made the entire event special! They cleaned, made sure food was replenished, and, most importantly, paid close attention to my guests needs! I recently found myself there for a friend's vocal performance so now maybe it's a theater? The concept feels a bit muddled. Let me start with the positives: the staff was completely sweet and accommodating, which is important. But unfortunately, the execution was amateur at best. First of all, the sound system is all wrong. Austin has a wide range of venues with incredible audio, from the grandeur of ACL Live at Moody Theatre to the humble Elephant Room. Regardless of the venue's size, proper sound quality is always a priority -- especially for the sake of the performers. But here, the front-of-house PA system just didn't have the power to fill the space. Drums and guitars with dedicated amplifiers completely overpowered the vocals and I could barely hear my friend, who was clearly struggling to project under those conditions. There's a flat-panel video display hung directly over the proscenium which is also too small for the space. The bassist and keyboard players are brothers maybe and the bassist is billed as the director of the production. It seems as though it also may have been his first shot at directing a theatrical piece. I did arrive a few minutes late which was on me but during a break between songs, I headed to the back to get a drink. The bar area was dark and looked closed but a staff member (seemingly the manager or owner) kindly asked what I wanted and promised to find someone to help. I asked if they had ginger beer; I asked if they had mezcal. The answers to both questions was: yes. I ordered a Mezcal Mule and a ginger beer for my boyfriend. The whole process was confusing -- there was no clear system for ordering, and the drinks were delivered to our table mixed up so my boyfriend ended up with the boozy one! Later, when a friend of mine went for the second round, she was told they didn't even stock mezcal. I'm pretty sure my first drink was just made with vodka which explains why it tasted funny. Overall, I couldn't help but wonder: is this a repurposed wedding venue trying to reinvent itself as a theater or music venue? It's hard to tell. Maybe they're still figuring things out, but it felt jumbled and disorganized. Despite the staff's enthusiasm and great intentions, my experience was unfortunately pure mediocrity.
