Located in a hotel, Alfred coffee is a little coffee shop with really quick service and pretty good drinks! I got the iced lavender matcha latte, and the matcha was decent, the flavor could have been a little stronger and I wish it was a little creamier. But I was pretty impressed with the lavender syrup. Located within a hotel lobby, Alfred coffee is such an aesthetic place with a calming atmosphere. There isn't a ton of seating but it was pretty free when we were there. Got the strawberry matcha latte with oat milk and my friend got the cloud creme latte. If you like your matcha on the sweeter side like me, this latte is perfect. The strawberry puree felt fresh and the matcha was smooth and whisked well without it. My friend's coffee drink was decent, not my personal favorite here the drink didn't feel as smooth as I like my coffee. Alfred's is located inside the Line hotel downtown and is fully cashless! I stopped by after a 10 mile walk for a nice warm vanilla chai. This was one of the best chai lattes I've ever had. No notes 10/10! Service could have been friendly. They also sell to-go sandwiches and meals and bottles of wine displayed in a wine wall. read more

Ordered: Iced Strawberry Matcha (~$7) Iced Vanilla Latte (~$8) Aya's take: I've never had Alfred Coffee but I know it's super popular in LA and I feel like I just stumbled upon a secret location. Austin is the only place outside of LA you can get it (in the US). Located in the LINE Hotel, and there's plenty of seating in the lobby should you choose to stay. Sadly both drinks I got tasted like straight up milk. In the Iced Strawberry Matcha, the taste of matcha was so weak. Even the Iced Vanilla Latte tasted like it barely had vanilla in it. It could've just been a regular iced latte if I hadn't known. I don't think they were well-made and the flavors were not cohesive. Also a bummer that they didn't have their cute cups or even cup sleeves with their name/logo on it. Austin has plenty of good coffee spots, so I don't think I'd return but if I find myself back in LA, I might give it another try there. read more

Alfred's is great! I was staying at the Line and ended up getting coffee here pretty much everyday. The baristas are very friendly and most importantly the coffee is good! I got the lavender latte both hot and iced. They have milk alternatives. They also have a selection of pastries (chocolate croissant was great). read more

Alfred is inside of the Line hotel in downtown Austin and is a perfect place to study or catch up with a friend. I like the vanilla latte but I've heard that the strawberry matcha is great as well! You can get free valet parking at the Line hotel for one hour if you purchase an item from Alfred. The inside of the hotel is cute and there's lots of tables to sit and work or study. read more

Amazing espresso! We frequented Alfred everyday while staying at The Line Hotel as it was located in the lobby. It's easy to see why the line was so long everyday, and on the weekends; incredibly long (pro tip- you can order ahead in the app and skip the line). Their espresso is by far the best I've had in years, especially in the US. Friendly staff and even if the line is long it usually moves fairly quick. Apart from the espresso I also tried the iced, vanilla late- it was delicious! There is plenty of seating in the lobby but I ended up taking my coffee to my room. Def worth checking out! read more

This Albert location is located within a hotel in downtown Austin. Personally, I love a coffee shop in a hotel but this would have been a pain to get to with a car given the lack of parking. The location is small but there is plenty of seating available in the lobby. The service was friendly and quick. I ordered a vanilla latte and it did the job! read more

A popular coffee shop brand from LA. Opened in the Line Hotel which has a good variety of seating in their lobby. I tried a few of their coffee options and their breakfast options. My favorites were the Matcha colada which had a refreshing coconut and pineapple component, and the berry Chia pudding. The pastries were also very tasty. read more

First things first: Alfred. That's the name of the coffee shop. Not Alfred's, not Café Alfred, not Alfred the Great Purveyor of Beans. Just... Alfred. It feels less like a coffee shop and more like the butler Batman forgot to tip. That said, the espresso here? Excellent. Smooth, rich, and strong enough to make you briefly believe you can afford downtown Austin rent. The pastries are solid too--especially the croissants, which flake in a way that makes you wonder if they have a hidden French grandmother in the back. It's tucked inside the Line Hotel but mercifully has its own entrance, so you don't have to awkwardly pretend you're checking in just to get a latte. And thank goodness, because Austin--despite being a "destination city"--weirdly doesn't have nearly enough coffee shops. This one fills the gap nicely. Pro tip: Their "World Famous Iced Vanilla Latte" is basically coffee's answer to a Beyoncé single--everybody knows it, everybody loves it, and it's a little over the top, but you'll still order it. So yes, Alfred may sound like a butler, but at least this Alfred serves coffee instead of unsolicited life advice. And honestly, that's the hero we need before taking on the chaos of Austin. read more

I stayed at the LINE hotel and the Alfred is located inside their lobby. It's great to have a nice coffee spot conveniently located! I got their iced vanilla latte and it was delicious. A great balance of sweetness and creaminess without it being too sweet or bitter. The only downside is that this place is good so it gets busy and seems to have a line every morning. You can order online I believe, which is good if you don't want to wait in line. read more

This is some old secret Alfred. And unlike the locations in LA, You can't contact this Alfred by phone. It's tucked away somewhere inside The Line Hotel. Parking is atrocious. But the pastries here are indeed phenomenal. They have gluten free/vegan options occasionally. I get my pastries from here through the "Too Good to Go" app for a fraction of the price but I have to wait till closing to pick them up. It's a good deal, so I do it. My favorites? The chocolate croissant, the cornbread like sugar cookie (I keep forgetting the name, but it's so buttery and grainy and decadent) and their gluten free blueberry muffin. I take that blueberry muffin home, slice it in half, warm it for about a minute and slather it in butter. Sinful...but not too much. And it's chocked full of big blueberries. I like you, Alfred. But I do wish you were not tucked away in this hotel with terrible parking. read more

i've never had the color of matcha deceive me like this one omg it was sooo bright (not pictured) i got the matchaga which has chaga mushroom which was described to be chocolatey and cinnamon forward, it tasted like milk. i tried my friends chagacino which was a standard cappuccino and the vanilla latte which was actually very delicious and strong. also tried my friends vanilla matcha which had a gorgeous vibrant green, but also did not taste like anything. the matcha just was not it. read more

While grabbing breakfast tacos at Veracruz, I noticed that there was a coffee shop across the lobby so I had to check it out. Lo and behold, it was my old friend Alfred. Alfred Coffee was always one of my favorite spots when I lived in LA. That feels like a lifetime ago, but seeing him again was like a warm hug. I ordered an Americano, like I always have, and the taste brought back all the memories. What's different about this Alfred is that you're greeted with the friendly Austin vibe. The woman who took my order was sweet as can be, and when the barista heard it was my first time in Austin, he immediately welcomed me and told me about spots I had to check out. Alfred Coffee is located inside the lobby of The Line hotel. It's a nice spacious furnished lobby which was about 5 minutes away from my hotel which made for a nice walk. Not only is the iced coffee delicious, it also comes in a large size which most coffee shops do not. Score! I ordered a basic Iced Vanilla Oat Milk Latte. Hubs ordered the Chagaccino which was quite thick. To be honest, I confused it with my drink... so that gives you an idea about how it's not so "mushroom-y." My large drink came in right under $9 which is ridiculous but I guess it's ok when it's a drink I can only get when I'm in town. Cheers! read more

The coffee is "ok," but the barista was the rudest barista I've ever encountered. Short girl with brown curly hair. If I owned this place, she would be gone. We have stayed here quite a bit for work and used to live here. Man, if you hate your job and Austin that much, leave. Austin baristas used to be the best! Located inside The Line Hotel, you can find it upon entrance next to Arlo Grey. The lobby has ample seating scattered around in front of the elevators, next to Alfred and further in the lobby where there are relaxing scenes of a fireplace. I didn't even think about Alfred or visit the shop until the last day of our two night stay. I wanted to grab something warm since it was raining outside and we were planning to walk to our next hotel stay. I chose to get a small cafe latte, which was $5.50 for an 8oz beverage. They also had a small refrigerated section for some bites like whipped Greek yogurt, coconut chia pudding, crudite, vegan caesar salad and cold beverages. The BEST most exquisite vanilla latte in town. They use their own vanilla syrup and it's perfectly sweet but not too sweet. The staff is friendly and their commitment to customer satisfaction is SERIOUS! I had a few questions about the lavender latte and they always answer my questions nicely. Located inside the line hotel. Got the og chaga and sad it didn't live up to the hype. First, it was waaaay too sweet. I couldn't finish even half. Was contemplating ordering an Americano to mix it with. Second, they didn't mix in the powder/sugar well, so every sip had an unpleasant crunch to it. I'm assuming this is the chain from LA but disappointed the quality wasn't the same. read more

Located inside the artsy LINE hotel, is this equally aesthetic cafe with one of the prettiest vibes ever! You're surrounding by this dark academia aesthetic, with hanging plants and nean signs, and the bathroom details are so cute as well. I like to judge a place based on the attention they give to their bathrooms haha. The parking situation here is kinda tricky, but they have free valet for about 1.5 hours if you're just visiting the cafe! We got the iced chai with oat milk, iced americano, and iced matcha. I also couldn't resist getting their last ginger cookie haha. It was so moist and reminded me of ginger snap cookies, except combined with the softness of sugar cookies. The Alfred is located inside of the Line Hotel. If you're looking for a quiet place to relax and people watch, the Line is the perfect place to be. I absolutely love how fabulous the interior of The Line is. I wanted to give the original LA-based coffee shop a second chance, as I wasn't impressed with my first time in. I stuck with one of Alfred's traditional Signature Matcha drinks to hopefully be proved wrong, only to be disappointed again. The first time, I ordered a Vanilla Latte. This time, I ordered a Green Matcha Latte with Oat Milk, sweetened by lavender. Both were equally bland. Even with adding additional sweetener, it just tasted... basic. This was a decent spot to get coffee inside of the LINE hotel. We got brekkie tacos from Veracruz All Natural and hopped over here for coffee. I got their world famous vanilla latte and hubby got a cortado. My vanilla was pretty good. No complaints there. The employees were very nice and my order came out quickly. The Cosmic Saltillo location is our go-to because it's walking distance from our home. This original location is amazing. Love the both so much. The food was much better than I even anticipated - as a guy who grew up on NJ diner mozzarella sticks, I have a high bar for them and these were magnificent. And seriously...taking the "everything's bigger in Texas" slogan and applying them to mozzarella sticks?! top 10 achievements of the decade. The chicken parm was perfect - well seasoned, proper amount of crisp..the basil on top...the perfect browning of the cheese. Also the lasanga was excellent..and best part - the leftovers..took it home and the next two days put them in a small cast iron and re-heated them..and the magic was right there in my hill country kitchen!
