Big Ass Chicken with Cajun Wedges
    Susan L.

I've had their chicken sandwich several times now and it smacks every time. Super juicy and crispy chicken, soft bun and just plain tasty. Probably my favourite chicken sandwich place in Toronto. And to top things off the portions are massive. Well worth the cost considering how pricey things are these days. We ordered the Cajun fries this time and it was perfectly cooked. Super fluffy and soft in the middle and crispy on the outside with a strong Cajun kick. The owner is right there working his heart out and you can tell it. They moved to Kensington market from their old location on Bloor and honestly I think they fit the Kensington community vibes perfectly. It scream locally made with a lot of heart. Super friendly, good food, but just be prepared to get your hands a bit saucy.

We chose to try this place out given that it was mentioned as being the best fried chicken sandwich place in Toronto on multiple websites. It is a cute eatery in Kensington with dine-in options but also takeout/delivery. They do not automatically include utensils so make sure to ask if you need them! There is zero street parking, so if you're dining in you are going to have to walk or Uber. - Big Ass Chicken Sandwich ($14) and Half Ass Chicken Sandwich ($11): Definitely gigantic portions for the price. The buns were fluffy and held up well. The red cabbage slaw was creamy and delicious. The chicken was... fine. It was deep fried in such a way that the batter wasn't crispy, it was actually kind of tough. For example, for multiple bites, I could not bite through the chicken and when I could, each bite would tear off a much bigger chunk than I wanted (not sure if you can picture what is going on). - Mac and cheese ($10): The rave reviews set my expectations high. But it tastes like normal Mac and cheese. Maybe because I did takeout, but it was not creamy; it had congealed by the time we brought it back to the hotel. There was no garlic flavor. I had to add the dipping sauce intended for the fries on the Mac & cheese in order to add some moisture and flavor -Cajun potato wedges ($6): I'm gonna just state that I have always found potato wedges to be the worst of the fried potato forms, because it just feels like a weirdly shaped baked potato to me (too much potato fluff, not enough crunchy skin). So keeping that in mind, I did not like these. I was expecting tater tots from everyone else's reviews, and I was very sad there were no tater tots. I liked the dipping sauce though, so I drenched my Mac and cheese with it.

After listening a lot of hype about this place food. So, we decided to visit The Heartbreak Chef ‍ located in Kensington Market - Toronto, ON. If you're looking for a phenomenal food / dining experience, look no further than The Heartbreak Chef ‍ . Their menu is a culinary masterpiece, offering an incredible selection of dishes that cater to diverse tastes and preferences. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff ‍‍‍ is friendly and attentive, making every visit a true pleasure. The Heartbreak Chef ‍ is a lovely place. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city in spite of being in the city . The place has the nice indoor seating arrangements and the seating arrangement is super comfortable and spacious. The staff is really nice, friendly and kept following . The food menu is great and there are many choices to choose from and they also offer quite a lot of small bites options to choose from.Pricing is decent, good value for money and the place is more suitable for a group of people.

Stubble across this cute hole but not a hole in the wall restaurant with great music, art and food is Delicious! Better come hungry , the owner was nice, attentive and immediately caught our accents form down south of the states.

We came in for Minnesota and found this place while walking the streets and are so glad we came. Vibes were immaculate, staff was incredible and super friendly. Food absolutely smacked. Everyone liked what they got. The chicken was the perfect amount of crispy and was both light and dark meat. Easily the best fried chicken I've ever had. Food was affordable and the staff made it so fun for us. Even started playing "Minnesota" by Lik Yachty for us Minnesotans. 100% would recommend, a must stop if you're in the area

This place is amazing. Service was quick and very friendly. The fried chicken was super juicy with the perfect balance of slaw, tots and sweet pickles. The mac n cheese was delicious, coming from not a mac n cheese fan in general is a pretty big deal imo.

Apr 27/21: More like a 4.5*! This was an awesome sandwich! The sauce was delicious & tart. The sweet pickles were delicious & the bun was good. AND the chicken! The chicken was done to perfection, crispy, crunchy & fabulous! I took the slaw on the side cause it makes the Sammy too sloppy. Let me say the the Garlic Mac & Cheese was quit likely the VERY BEST M&C I've had. The window server was a very polite young lady that made doing Biz, easy. Two complaints; 1. The bun was too small for the sandwich. 2. The napkins. If you're gonna turn out a sloppy delicious sandwich like yours...get some decent napkins, would ya! 100% do-over!

Friend recommended I stop in here, no frills, just solid chicken sandwiches. The folks working there were super helpful in walking through the menu, spice level, ingredients etc. I got the spicier of the two sandwiches and some tots, huge portions, and took some to-go. Ate it at 11pm and was equally pleased. Maybe the best chicken sandwich I've had in years. Cheers.

Good solid chicken sandwich. Love the fact that they use white and dark meat so you get a bit of both. I tried the Big ass chicken sandwich and it was massive, with delicious homemade sweet crunchy pickles, cabbage slaw and more. I also got to try out their collaboration with Glory Hole donut chicken sandwich the buns were their original donuts that reminded me of Krispy Kreme donut but better, ooh yeah and don't forget the red sauce that goes with it. Tangy with a bit of a kick.

I've wanted to try this place not realizing I've passed it numerous times I ordered the big ass chicken sandwich, mac and cheese and tried some of my friend's deep fried brussel sprouts. The big ass chicken Sandwich is HUGE. Its two pieces of breast meat drenched in buffalo sauce topped with coleslaw and pickles. The chicken is soooo tender! The buffalo sauce was tangy and the pickles were sweet and crunchy. The brussel sprouts were good and not over done. I just wish it had slightly more salt. The mac and cheese was good with just the right amount of cheese, not too over powering. I loved the green onions on top great pairing. The chef and owner was nice and patient answering all questions and accommodating my plantbased friend. Overall a great experience just sad, they were sold out of tater tots Visit was on a sunday at 5pm

Had the big ass chicken sandwich with mac and cheese combo. $20 including tax. The big ass chicken sandwich was really big ass. There was so much chicken, the bun halves were far from being able to contain them & I couldn't fit the whole thing in my mouth. I don't know why this is even positioned as a sandwich - it'd be better off sold as just fried chicken. That aside the sandwich was good: the chicken was crispy, juicy & tasty & the pickles & purple cabbage slaw were delicious. The buffalo sauce was good. The mac & cheese was pretty cheesy, though the macaroni was a bit too soft. All 5 cheeses they use are quite mild, though, so the mac & cheese doesn't have much character.

We had a power blackout last Friday night so we sat outside with some of our neighbours, had a drink and chatted. The chat turned to fried chicken and Andrew and Nonna said how good the fried chicken is at the Heartbreak Chef in Parkdale. It's been in our heads all week so that's where Gord and I picked up supper this evening. We both got three-piece fried chicken dinners ... the dinner came with tator tots and cole slaw. The chicken is boneless and there are two sauces for it ... buffalo and jerk. Gord got his with no sauce and I got jerk sauce on the side. I'm glad I did ... I love jerk sauce and this was too spicy. I'm not a fan of cole slaw so gave mine to Gord and he said it was really good. The tator tots were fun ... they were a bit spicy (but in a good way). The chicken is boneless and tasty. I dipped mine in the creamy Frank's Red Hot and it was good. There was lots of food and we both have leftovers for tomorrow. Jerome was friendly and chatty. Thanks, Jerome!

One of the best places we've eaten in Toronto. The Charlie with jerk chicken sandwich was more than sufficient for 2 of us and we still have leftovers to finish. Work up an appetite and go because it's a lot of heavy food. Amazing taste - jerk chicken was spicy even for us spicy food lovers! Overall, fantastic and Trinity Bellwood is closeby which makes it perfect picnic meal!

I got 3 sandwiches for me and my family (4 people including me). What we ordered: Mona Lisa: 8/10 For both of the sandwiches the bread was very fresh and delicious! They make them fresh for each order and you can taste the quality. The flavours in the Mona Lisa worked really well together, I loved the truffle cream and burrata. Torino: 7/10 This sandwich was also good, but the I felt like it was lacking something, especially compared to the mona lisa. The spicy eggplant just tasted like plain pickled eggplant and wasn't that spicy. I feel like both sandwiches were a bit salty due to the prosciutto, and were missing some sweet or acidic element. I added some balsamic glaze and hot honey at home which was great! The portion sizes are HUGE, the 4 of us were quite full after splitting the 3.

This small little bake shop had a menu hanging up, but I completely ignored it thanks to the baked goods right behind the counter that I was too busy staring at. I knew right away that I was going to order a Chocolate Croissant because, well, I always order a Chocolate Croissant if one is available. After making my first choice, this strange little baked good caught my eye, and it turned out to be something called a Cruffin.......a Cruffin you say? What is a cruffin? WELL, let me tell you. The cruffin is basically like a muffin, but like, with cheese and pepperoni on it so obviously I hate to order that sexy little bad boy right away. This thing wasn't big, but it was very dense and basically tasted like pizza crust which was absolutely delicious. After eating the cruffin, the Chocolate Croissant seemed way less cool but I ate it anyway. It tasted good and the chocolate was actually spread across the whole thing so they get an even bigger thumbs up for doing it right. Overall, COBS Bread was the spot! I had no idea this was a chain, but who cares, this place was great. I really liked the Cruffin I got and the croissant was really good as well. I will absolutely be revisiting COBS Bread when I come back to Canada and devouring a few more cruffins while I'm at it!

The cashier was friendly and asked if I wanted either a cinnamon bun with icing or plain. I opted for a cinnamon bun with icing and she put it in a box for me before handing it over. During my time at the store the place had a steady flow of customers, coming in to buy baked goods. My cinnamon bun was big and tasted great! I heated it up a bit when I got home. You can really feel the care and personality behind the space, which added so much to the overall visit. We tried a variety of items, but the Pizza Caesar Wrap was easily the standout and our favourite thing we ate. Crispy, cheesy, messy in the best way, and packed with flavour. Even better, $3 from every wrap goes toward supporting Daily Bread Food Bank through their $30,000 fundraising campaign, which made ordering it feel even more worthwhile. We also really enjoyed the Spicy Ham & Cheese, which had the perfect balance of spicy, creamy, salty, and savoury flavours. The Gourmet French Hot Dog was another highlight with its sweet and savoury flavour combination wrapped in a buttery, flaky croissant. The Four Seasons sandwiches were a fun concept inspired by the Blue Jays, and while the Chef's Choice wasn't our personal favourite, some people at our table enjoyed it more than we did. For dessert, all of the cookies were freshly baked in-house and surprisingly good for a grab-and-go style spot. The double chocolate chip was rich and soft, and the white chocolate cranberry and macadamia cookies were both solid classics. The iced matcha latte with oat milk paired especially well with them, and the iced vanilla latte was smooth and easy to drink. The space itself is bright and open with big windows that bring in lots of natural light during the day. Seating is cozy, but the layout still feels spacious and comfortable overall. I'm going to continue with my overtime take out review series with Sandwich Box. You would think making a sandwich is probably not the most complicated task out there, but this place seems to get it all wrong. My order consisted of an egg salad sandwich on whole grain bread with a side salad. When I received it, I only got the sandwich and the restaurant failed to tell me the salad was no longer included in the combo (yet the price remained the same). That's great that the online menu was not updated to include items no longer available, a simple update would address all these problems knowmsayin? Now on to the actual sandwich, the bread was thick. I mean so thick it looked like there was about a half an inch of eggs inside of two encyclopedias worth of bread. The eggs themselves, totally flavorless and bland. Kinda hard to mess up an egg salad sandwich right? Even Tim Horton's can get that right! To make things short and sweet, I'll be looking over this option the next time I'm working late or considering a sandwich in the downtown area.
