The Hedley Club is a diamond in the rough. It is still an amazingly beautiful venue and reopened after having new hotel owners. I went there on a Friday night and sadly the venue is only a shell of its former self. I heard it had reopened and tried to find information online. The first search result is the Yelp page that says it is closed (I messaged Yelp to fix). Then I found a Facebook page which hasn't been updated since 2019 (apparently the new owners don't have access to the page from the old owners). But Instagram shows that there is some life to the venue. Then I try to call to get more details. I kid you not, I tried 5 phone numbers and finally got in contact with someone at the hotel who didn't seem to know much about the club or music schedule but assured me it was open. I asked about food and they were a big cagey but said there are "bites" available. I then made my plan to visit. First impressions are important and the hotel front door is locked. I was able to make eye contact with the front desk in the distance and they noted I needed to use my hotel key card to open the door -- not helpful if you don't have a card since I wasn't staying in the hotel. In absence of any sign, one has to figure out only the side door on Notre Dame Avenue is open. The Hedley Club is still there like a time capsule but without life and few signs of activity (maybe jazz nights Tuesday and Thursday are more lively). I arrived as the only patron besides a person at the bar staring lifelessly at a TV playing a random sports game . Back in the day the bar was one of the best in San Jose for the quality of drinks and service. Sadly this was not the case when I visited. Service was ok but I ordered a standard bar stable a mojito and it arrived as a sour lime concoction. I should have returned it but I was enjoying a conversation with friends. I decided to stick to beer for my next drink. I cheerfully received the beer in an unopened can -- like I was in some quaint honky tonk bar on the bayou. After seeing my disappointed face, the bartender offered a glass. I opened my beer and poured it myself. Not to drink on an empty stomach, I inquired as to the "bites" and they I was told they only have food on Tuesday and Thursdays. This seemed so random but it aligns with the jazz nights. Disappointing. A DJ was setting up for 8 pm music but I left before then. I'll visit again for a jazz night but at this point I would say it is a beautiful place to visit but stick to the menu cocktails or beer. Check out the beautiful patio as well for a different vibe. The hotel could considerably improve the experience by either keeping the front door open like before or adding a sign to indicate only the side door is open without a key card. Also having a dedicated club webpage that clearly and accurately describes the state of the club. The best webpage is the hotel de Anza website at this point. Instagram is the best option for information. They need to improve their bartending game -- especially on a weekend night if they want any hope of success. Some sort of food which be appreciated but the hotel restaurant is still closed and I don't know if there is any kitchen for the hotel. I would think Fridays and Saturdays would be prime days for live jazz music and revenue but we will have to wait for that. read more

The best jazz lounge in San Jose, the Hedley Club is located at the back of the Anza hotel and adjacent to a not less beautiful patio. Every single thing there is exquisite. Check the ceiling. So much detail in the paints and the whole ensemble is very classy. You don't need to have anything to do with the hotel in order to access the club, and i noticed talking to people that is a total hidden gem not so known in San Jose. So do not miss a chance to attend one of their jazz nights free events, have a drink and get some Art Deco style to transport you to another era. Check that patio as well, it is just wonderful for gatherings or have a drink solo by those tiled fountains. read more

My boyfriend and I went here on our last date night before he left (long distance sucks!) and shockingly, it was pretty empty! We went at around 9pm and there were only 3 other people there. The drinks aren't as cheap as I would have liked but this lounge is inside a hotel so it makes sense. Lagavulin is about $20 which is normal I think. But the real highlight was the jazz band! I can't remember their name but it sounds like they frequent this spot. They were a fun group of sweet older guys just having a great time. They played both popular and more obscure songs. I would definitely go back here for a nice night out with my significant other and everyone should check this place out! read more

The perfect lounge for a relaxing evening. I've come here on multiple Wednesday evenings when they have a live jazz band playing and I find myself refusing to leave because of the lovely ambiance. If you love listening to Jazz or unique artists, this is your spot! You might want to check their website for when they have live musicians playing. Even when there is no live band playing, they have the music in the background that creates the perfect atmosphere to eat, drink a glass of wine and have a nice conversation. The waiters are absolutely phenomenal. They do a great job attending to everyone in the room. They have a good enough wine and mixed drinks selection. Nestled in the back of hotel de anza is this little gem. A gem that needs to be talked about. A few nights ago, my co-workers and some chaps met up here to have a few drinks and unwind. It was my first time herr, and I've got to say, it is a very cozy spot. The inside is furnished with huge comfortable couches and chairs all around a fireplace. There was a live band playing some old school jazz. The bartenders and bar is well maintained and very hospitable. The lads behind the bar had all.sorts of hard alcohol to play with and a few exotic beers I've never heard of. The price for everything isn't terribly steep either. In addition, there is a beautiful patio in the back to really unwind. Overall; We really enjoyed ourselves with the live music, the great drinks and to cozy atmosphere. I love Jazz night! This is an excellent venue for this. I imagine a Mad Men character drinking and smoking while enjoying the nice jazz tune here. No place to sit on crowded nights like Fridays and Saturdays I'm assuming. We showed up to this spot since it had pretty decent reviews to try and impress our friend who was visiting and wanted to have drinks with us again. We were hoping this place would be a fun experience like singlebarrel down the street. BOY, were we WRONG-O! Drinks here are pretty...nasty in my opinion. I ordered a drink that a fellow Yelper recommended, it had a unique name to it with a UNIQUE taste, unique meaning nastayyy. When we finally scored some seats at the bar I decided I should order a simple drink like a mai tai. Probably one of the grossest mai tai's I've ever had. Almost as gross as the tequila sunrise I had at this ghetto lookin nightclub down the street from this place. The only upside to this place is that the couches are actually SUPER comfy. Fugly, but super comfy. (Restrooms are located on the lower level of the hotel) Beware of Pukey McPukerson older women there who can't handle their alcohol. My friend almost fell in the pukage at the top of the stairs that was drippin and leading down to the lower level into the restroom. ICK! Also, the damn waitress tried to charge my bf twice for the crappy drinks we had at the bar. That is a NO-NO in my book. I'm already cheap as it is sometimes, don't be chargin me double hobag. On a better note, there's a pretty Christmas tree out in the lobby of the hotel and you can take off the ornaments and play around with them and take funny asian pictures. The ladies - Anna, Kay, and I were back together for the Memorial Day weekend! Anna and I had a whole evening planned - dinner at the San Pedro Bistro and Wine Bar and then head over to the Hedley Club Lounge for some jazz and drinks. Unfortunately, our friend's plane arrived late and so we decided to nix the San Pedro Bistro and instead, we headed straight to the Hedley Lounge. Luckily, Anna being the planner that she is made Kay a gourmet sandwich and so she scarfed that down in the car, "hittin' the spot" as Kay said. Just as we got seated, the kitchen had closed. It closes promptly at 10 p.m. They're known for their mixed cocktails so I ordered the Hedley "Amore-Hito", Anna got the Apple Martini, and Kay ordered a martini but the name of the drink escapes me. My drink aka mojito was not too strong, just light and refreshing. Both martinis were a bit strong but had a great flavor to it. We just sat back in the cozy, comfy chairs and enjoyed the jazz music that was playing. The room has got great acoustic sound. Wonderful way to begin the 3-day weekend with my girlfriends. read more

We walked in and the bellboy called it: Hedley Club? Walk straight, turn left. Small place, maybe half the size of a ballroom or a little more? Low lights, with the musicians in the corner. Seats were all full, so we ordered some beverages at the bar and milled about. A couple left their seats, and I swooped that as fast as you would for a 50" LCD tv on sale on a Black Friday. Really great crowd and awesome live jazz music. I think this is the only place in San Jose that I have been in that really understands the concept of LOUNGE. You know, comfortable seats?? Where you can really relax (i.e. lounge?) I had a cran juice and my bestfriend had water that sufficed us for the 3 1/2 hours we were there. We weren't hassled, and everybody behaved as adults do. This was our official pre-game dinner spot before the Yelp Pley Elite event! It's been common practice now for the SBC* to have a dinner and cocktails before starting the event. It makes it easier to comfort the belly and our spirits. Hedley Lounge was a perfect call for this. It has a sophisticated (not swanky) atmosphere with their some upscale seats, living room manor décor, and elegant lounge area tables. The only gripe I have is their low ambient lighting that needs to go up a notch. It might help while meeting a blind date. Anyway, let me talk about two of their awesome pre-game dinner cuisines: Rustica Pizza This is screaming with fresh mushrooms. The cook did not leave any blank spaces. It was covered with so much goodness of mushrooms that I nearly finished the entire 14" pizza. Accompanied with Italian sausages, sweet onion, chopped fresh oregano, and Fontina, this was perfect for pre-game meal. Crust... crunchy bottom and chewy inside! Lamb Chops My friend, Sha B, ordered the lamb chops that arrived perfectly warm and sweating with all the natural juices dripping from the texture. I was able to sample one piece and let me tell you - the gamey taste of this lamb chop was very slight (the way it should be). Instead, the tender taste of lamb and this rich punch of herbs and wine sauce harmonized very very well. I felt like I was judging an Iron Chef battle because I was savoring this bad boy! If I didn't know any better, I would have ordered this dish along with my pizza. This definitely going to be my next dish here! Been to the Hedley on more than a few occasions. It was lust at first sight-- the swanky décor, the dim lights-- the cool cozy furniture. It can be an ideal spot to meet for dinner or lunch. One thing I can and will always count on with the Hedley Lounge, is no matter how many people are in the room or whatever day it is, it is consistently the same-- 5 Star Service- Superb. Always personable and on it. Fast, quick. Know their menu well and all the drinks 3.5 Food- It's great and stays in line with the seasons, but making a dish taste great shouldn't always be left to soaking it in so much olive oil.. (there are so many other amazing spices out there!) I prefer to order a couple appetizers to go with my drinks-- the Brussels Sprouts, Roasted Beets or even their Butternut Squash Ravioli. 5 Star Atmosphere- Any time of day, this place is huge, but still remains intimate and cozy-- using great lighting and placing of furniture-- I could be sitting near a big group and not hear a word they're saying nor even notice them! 4.5 Stars Drinks-- Always the best mixed drinks-- and very generous bartenders! I have to say this place is actually pretty nice. It's hard to find parking but I say it was worth it. We went in May to listen to some Jazz. The place was really cozy, it would be nice if the had the place set up for couples instead of 2 couples. So you might have to share your table since it is set up for 4 people. The outside is nice, very roomy, they even have some games if you want to play. The Marini's are very good, we had the cheese plate that had cheese, crackers, honeycomb, grapes and nuts, we also had the tiramisu which was also good. The music was very good. It was not too loud and not too soft. It was just right. The bathrooms are located downstairs which look a little dated but functional. This is a great place to go and have a drink, a snack and listen to some music. read more

Live music is hard to find in the South Bay, so my wife and I value this club. The lounge is 1920s art deco with a high ceiling and a fireplace. There are about 20 seats, so we like to arrive well before the 8:30 band start and order off the bar menu or if you ask you can order off the full menu from the restaurant. The service is good and the food is very good. The music is usually jazz and the bands perform well. It's the perfect antidote to the "what should we do tonight?" blahs. read more

And now, they've cut the jazz jam on Wednesday, literally the only reason I ever have been to the Hedley club, the place is being totally mismanaged, they've been closing the kitchen early and don't staff enough servers making it harder to monetize the jam session, and then they complain that the jam isn't making money? What a bunch of malarkey. Music is the only thing the Hedley has going for it. The food is lackluster, the drinks are overpriced, and the decor is in need of an update. I love this place! The staff is incredibly nice! The ambiance, furniture, paintings and everything in the room is completely beautiful! This is the nicest lounge that I've ever been too. They have a beautiful outdoor patio area where there's room for a wedding, that's well lit and has plants and fountains. Inside it has a fireplace, lovely couches and chairs to relax in, a very complete menu of wonderful food and drink, and a gorgeous bar area. They have music here I believe so check the schedule and go, that is if you want a very romantic night!! Should you feel like staying the night, itis a hotel too. I've never been to the hotel but I can imagine that it's gorgeous! There is parking in walking distance at the garage on Market St. for a flat rate of $5.00 which I loved. The Hedley Club is my home away from home. I am a San Jose native and worked at the Hedley for 6 years up until I moved to Tampa in 2003. The time I spent working at the Hedley Club was one of the most amazing times in my life that I will never forget. I started off as a cocktail waitress and learned how to bartend from some of San Jose's most talented mixologists. Many of the regulars became some of my best friends that I still keep in touch with today. There is something magical about the Hedley Club. Upon entering, you will be captivated by the gorgeous decor and beautiful staff. The drinks are not only cutting edge and tasty, they are classy. The food is nothing shorty of incredible and they have wonderful Happy Hour Specials. This is the perfect place to go for pre-dinner drinks or to spend a romantic evening after dinner. If you are alone, it is a great place to grab a bite and watch a game on tv. The live music at the Hedley is some of the best in the Bay Area and always features incredible, local talent. I was last in San Jose last month (May, 2012) and I hate to say, my overall trip was disappointing but my time spent at the Hedley Club was spectacular. My last day in town was spent at the Hedley after my plans to be in San Francisco were ruined. I was feeling a bit lonely and the staff made me feel like I was at home. I sipped on Champagne, enjoyed some appetizers and mingled with some of the regulars. The kindness of the staff was not only genuine, but it turned a bad day into a good one. I have to say a big thank you to bartenders Nicole and Paul who not only make fabulous drinks, they are some of the most hospitable bartenders I have ever encountered. Enjoy it while it's here since the menu seems pretty seasonal with a fair amount of change. Finally got to check this place out. If you're a jazz fan, definitely come by here one night and check it out! I was here this past Thursday with a few buds and it was super chill. We arrived there around 9:30a and the band was finishing up one song. They stopped to break fro dinner but that gave me a chance to admire the beautiful majesty of the this place. Amazing architecture, I swear. This was my first time here and (I heard) Lady Gaga stayed here when her tour stopped by here. Rightly so! It makes San Jo look so classy! The band was awesome and chill. They played off music sheets but free styled too. The seating was super comfy and there wasn't much of a crowd for a Thursday night, which was nice. During the summer they're having "Parties on the Patio" on Thursdays starting at 5:30. When we went, there was a delightful cover band and a whiskey tasting! I was afraid it would be too swanky and feel uncomfortable, but it was actually very lovely to hang out on the patio with my friends. The happy hour is probably one of the best I've been to, mostly for the food. Beer is $3, well drinks are $4, wine is $5, signature cocktails are $7, and small bites are $4. We had two drinks and an appetizer each for $15! The signature cocktails were hit or miss, but the French Pear and Hedley Manhattan were good. We really enjoyed the onion rings and ravioli from the small bites menu; other items include french fries, warm mixed olives, and fava beans with onion and pecorino. I would love to give more stars but with a full house after a Sharks game and only one waiter and one bartender?? REALLY puts a damper on the evening. Food and drinks are great, but too much lag time. :-( read more

One of my favorite spots for live music in SJ. This is offered every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month from 7:30-10pm. There aren't too many live jazz joints, and the decor makes the venue super cozy. There are velvet couches, booths, standing bar areas, and a full bar in the back with stools too. It's sorta small and is always a full house; but if you arrive early enough, you should be able to grab some seats. The performers are sometimes from school bands or college students, so the variety in music and experience will vary (but that's one of the best parts of the venue). The food menu also offers a variety of snacks and tasty bites. I've tried the burger and meatballs a while back, and I remember it being pretty good. read more

On Saturday I returned to the Hedley Club with my beau for the anniversary of our first date which also took place at the Hedley club. This place is full of comfortable couches, chairs and pillows. The drinks are excellent and it has a very eclectic and well done cocktail menu. This place has a full bar and can make almost anything you want. The food is good and has a lot of little snack plates. The desserts are also good and change seasonally. Monday through Friday the Happy Hour is a really good deal. They have jazz most nights and it can get kind of loud. On the weekends it gets pretty busy between the downtown bustle, the hotel and weddings at the De Anza. I love this place and plan to return every year or more! read more

Exotic. Welcoming. Great staff. A magical place, really. We got there 30 minuets before closing and the staff was very kind and obliging! Delightful really. I would love to go back when they have live music. Very elegant and charming. read more
