I have been coming to Cash Only since they first opened and have never had a single issue until last Saturday night. While catching up with friends, one of the bartenders, Jay, decided to eavesdrop on our conversation. He only caught a few words out of context, but came over and aggressively informed me that "that kind of talk" was grounds to get kicked out of the bar. He completely misunderstood what we were actually talking about, but was ready to throw out a loyal, long-time customer based entirely on his own assumptions and biased opinions. Even the two people I was with were completely taken back and shocked by his comment. It is incredibly disappointing to get treated this way by staff at a place you've supported for years. I am definitely rethinking whether I want to bring my business back here. read more

This is the coolest and nicest dive bar in town! You won't find better drink deals anywhere in SJ. Fresh and well made drinks using fresh citrus, freshly juiced apples, etc. for such a low price. And they're able to do this because the establishment is really cash only (it's not just a name!). My favorite is their delicious Frozen Irish Coffee, which is always a treat. But close second is their Whiskey Apple where they freshly juice a green apple for every order. You can even ask for non-alcoholic versions which makes this the only bar I know of where non-drinkers can get freshly pressed juice! They also have a great whiskey selection, including several private barrel picks. Lots of affordable canned beers too. This was my first time at this particular bar and funny enough, we were at another bar earlier in the evening, which apparently is their sister bar!! That spot had a speakeasy field to it where you went downstairs and around the corner! This one was much more of a traditional "bar "but it reminded me of like an old 90s TV show, cheers. Lol. I never watched the show, but I've seen references of it. Everyone seem to know each other and there were people playing pool in the back. We got a round of drinks, but everybody was just hanging out so after we finished our drinks, we made our way home. I really like the old-fashioned jukebox and the different drinks on tap. I love this place good music not a lot of people but I went there right after work so it was early. Drinks weren't expensive, I had Hayden Basil and coke (my favorite) they are cash only. I LOVE THEMED ESTABLISHMENTS. I can't even say I know anything about Johnny Cash other than super surface level osmosis from others. REGARDLESS! Huge kudos for this bar in incorporating the theming to a tee. It's called Cash Only because they only accept cash (no worries since there's an ATM inside) and they play Johnny Cash on the jukebox. The theming, decor, aesthetics and ambience are on point, making it feel like you just entered a movie set. Lots to look at, billiards in the back and the red lighting just adds even more to the atmosphere. Service was super friendly and very fast too, though we were there before the sun went down. Hours are amazing here. You'd be pressed to find hours like this in the Bay Area (2PM - 2 AM, 365 days all year around). Also very affordable too. I'm allergic to alcohol so I can't comment on that but I got some of their pickled hard boiled eggs. Has an interesting sour pickle taste with some slight sweetness too. Yummy and unique bar snack. It's a pretty casual, actually cash only bar with dim ambient lighting. They have ATMs if you need. There's a bit of an Old western theme going on with wooden barrels, leather couches. Pretty spaced out seating areas too so it's good for talking / catching up. Their frozen Irish coffee drink is superb. I loved their theme! & their music! & the two drinks I got (which apparently are their best sellers)! I've heard about this place for a long time, but not sure why I never stopped by. I guess it often gets overlooked since it's not in the main area where DTSJ bars are concentrated & people often get distracted by Miniboss nearby. We came by for my friend's birthday on a rainy Saturday night and there was ample amount of seating. It wasn't too terribly loud and you could still relatively hear each other. I had ordered their whiskey apple, which was pleasantly refreshing with real, fresh apple juice. But, I was most impressed by the frozen irish coffee! I love coffee cocktails & I loveeeee slushies, so this was the perfect combo! Only drawback was that they are cash only (yes, I get that it's literally their name, but I just don't like carrying cash!). Will definitely be back again! read more

And as the name states it is CASH ONLY, but not to worry if you don't have any on you because they have a couple ATMs available with only about a $1 service fee. So the vibe is very classic and all the bartenders are great and attentive! Haven't seen him in a while but Jay was the BEST. They also have a pool table for anyone interested! Used to come here all the time but recently there's this horrible employee with long hair and a neck beard and hate who always says our IDs are fake and looks a super long time. They do have beers on tabs & some in cans, they have a apple whisky drink made with fresh green apples & a coffee drink which is amazing!!! They have do have some pool tables but normally are taken up during the weekend. Security guy was awesome, friendly & funny. I came in on a Wednesday night with some friends and it wasn't too busy, so we were able to order right away. Definitely recommend the Frozen Irish Coffee drink! It tastes like a latte and you can barely taste the alcohol in it. I don't drink often, but this drink went down SO smooth. If you like coffee, highly recommend giving this a try! They also let you take the black cups home, which make super cute souvenirs! It's located on a busy main street, so there isn't really parking. Me and my friends had to park far away and walk. To get it out of the way, YES this place is indeed ca$h only. Now to better things, what a little hidden gem this is! It's like a cross between a fancy cocktail bar and your local dive bar. The decor is nice with a jukebox in the center of the place and Johnny Cash everywhere. As for drinks, most are $10 to my memory. The menu is not extensive so your group can probably try them all. My favorites are the Frozen Irish Coffee and the Whiskey Apple (made with fresh apples!). Fun vibe! Let me preface by saying I don't drink, I'm not a fan of it. My friends wanted to grab a drink here after our comedy show around the corner. I really enjoyed the ambiance of the place, I hadn't been since it used to be a dive bar. In true fashion I ordered a coke to drink but I really wish they had a diet or even a coke zero option. Nonetheless I enjoyed my drink with the vibe. This place is really nice for a date spot or to hang and catch-up with friends. My friends love the whiskey apple drink so I can only speak to that but this place seems to be popular so they must have good drinks! The only negative that stood out was my friend requested a certain whiskey and the bar tender said they didn't have it but she clearly saw it displayed on the shelf. This is a great bar to go and it's literally cash only. They have an atm machine in cash you need to withdraw cash. It's pretty rare to have this type of bar in downtown San Jose. Never been there later in the night when it's crowded so I can only speak on my experience when it's not crowded. The bartender is hospitable and I could tell there's a lot of regular that go here.
