I really enjoyed this restaurant. The food lived up to my expectations. The fried duck ravioli was pretty good. It had a solid crunch out the outside and it was still flavorful and rich on the inside. The steak was exceptional. Perfectly booked medium rare throughout with a perfect sear. The cheesecake was the only thing I was a little disappointed by. It was good, but it wasn't cheesecake. It was pretty much just cake with a tiny bit of cheese filling. The service was good. Our server and the manager were pretty attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The ambiance was nice, your typical upscale steakhouse. Ate dinner on Sunday evening at the Heritage Grill in the Wine Bar area. The food and service was top notch. The beef short ribs was perfectly composed with a savory sauce and truffle mash. My wife had a wedge salad and the sautéed shrimp. She is gluten free and the server verified with the chef to make sure he was right on what had gluten and what was gluten free. For semester we had a flourless tort. I would suggest this place for a nicer meal with gluten free options. The Wine Barrel side is more casual, which was nice for us because we wanted a good meal but also wanted to watch the NFL playoff game. read more

This place never disappoints. I have eaten on the dining side, as well as the wine barrel side, now that they serve the whole menu in the whole restaurant. I enjoy trying something different each time I go. The drinks are very well made also, I particularly like the sangria cocktail. I've had the crab cakes, bruschetta, shrimp, and calamari appetizers recently and they were all delicious. Seasoned well and plated nicely. The last time we went, we had the pesto and the bruschetta flatbreads. So good! Would definitely get them again. I plan on working my way through their burgers as well. The service has always been excellent. Always ready to answer questions about the dishes, especially when we have questions about the specials. The food arrives in a timely manner as well. We went to the Heritage Grille over Thanksgiving weekend. My wife had a chicken dish which was very, very good. I had fish which was very good. Our daughter had the bolognese which was very good and her boyfriend had the rib eye which was good. The service was very good also. Why not 5 stars? Only the chicken was a home run. Everything else was good, but not over the top good. We would definitely come back. While I would like to try some other things on the menu, I would not hesitate to order the same meal again. Heritage Grille is a newer restaurant in Wake Forest. It has been renovated from the prior restaurants in the space. There is a dining room; bar area and outdoor seating. The dining room is nicely decorated down to the white table cloths. The staff was very friendly and attentive while we were here. I went with the filet mignon, my usual as it helps me figure out the quality of the restaurant. I was very happy with the quality here and my selection. My dinner also came with a baked potato (or other side) and veggies. As I was pleased with the dinner I went with the Tres leches cake for dessert and enjoyed that as well. The portion was generous so I ended up eating most of it the next day. I will be returning in a few weeks to Heritage Grille so need to decide if I opt for a new dish or stick with the one I highly enjoyed. read more

Our first trip here. Made reservations earlier in the day for 6:30 on a Saturday. Upon arrival, was seated immediately. Very friendly hostess. I'll start with I have no complaints. Not one. Everything we ordered was flavorful and filling. It's a classy place although I saw people dressed up in what I'd call business casual to people in jeans and a nice hoodie/sweatshirt/boots. We started with the waiters recommendation for an appetizer which was the fried duck ravioli. I have never had duck before. The glaze was kind of sweet. Ravioli was filled with cheese and duck, very flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised! For our drinks, we ordered a pecan old fashioned which was very good. Nice note of the pecans at the end of the sip. We also tried the southern sidecar. This is a very strong drink, the orange liqueur doesn't stand out much, you definitely taste more of the VSOP and lime. We split a Cesar side salad. It was plenty for us two, especially after the duck appetizer. Our steaks were very flavorful. I'd go as for to say for this area, best steak I've had around wake forest so far. On this food journey we will start with the staff. They are amazing and attentive. They were willing to talk and be helpful with menu items. The ambiance was quiet. Unfortunately in this review I can not say much about the inside. We sat outside near the fire and it was wonderful. Not too loud but not too quiet. The steak was cooked perfectly through with the right amount of seasoning. The red wine Demi glaze was alright honestly the steak is better without it. For the price of the meal I think it could be cheaper. If it was a little cheaper they would be getting a higher rating. The cheesecakes are fantastic. My family went there last Saturday for dinner for my dad's 83rd birthday. The service was absolutely awful from McKayla. We had to go up to the bar to get drinks from Alex, who was awesome. I guess McKayla knew she would get a good tip regardless so spent her efforts on other tables. It was really awful. She would be gone for long periods of time. We got the bread, which is not worth the money. My sister got a shrimp appetizer she liked. I got the ribeye which was fatty and gross. My sister ordered the medium filet but came so rare that it was almost raw. They came to fix it but it was still really rare but she didn't want to wait anymore. We asked to see the owner twice. She came over and didn't really say anything or introduce herself and took some dishes away. Super strange. Alex at the bar was the only nice person we encountered all night. Vibes are great. You could come have drinks with friends but it's also a great place to bring your parents for their anniversary dinner. I liked that you were able to size their charcuterie board depending on your group size. We had the grouper sandwich 10/10, scallop risotto 10/10, fried duck ravioli 9/10 (a little too hard fried for me but still yummy), the hazelnut chocolate cake 10/10 (not overly sweet), pecan old fashioned 7/10 (if you're an old fashioned drinker. We decided to try the Heritage Grille & Wine Barrel since they changed the menu (more to the type of food we prefer). We ordered the classic Bruschetta appetizer. Although delicious, we were disappointed that we only received 3 bruschettas for $13 (most places provide 4 pieces). For dinner we had chicken parm and chicken marsala. The sauce for both seems to be misplaced on the pasta only. Chicken Parm was fried chicken cutlet with minimal, if any, sauce....the sauce was primarily on the pasta. The chicken marsala sauce was delicious, but the chicken was not braised in the sauce after if was fried . The chicken was just a bland floured cutlet that was fried and placed atop the pasta which was drenched with the delicious marsala sauce. The flavors are on point, but the sauce needs to be incorporated into the chicken as well as the pasta. Look forward to visiting again. read more

They did a bit of a remodel since BuKu, and a complete overhaul of the menu. Appearance was attractive and they were pretty busy on a Saturday evening. Some food items were great, others not. Beef and Spelt soup was fantastic, never had spelt before, but this makes a great winter soup. Carpaccio also very tasty and nicely presented. Ravioli appetizer was a miss, nicely crispy but dry and not seasoned well. Duck was crunchy and cooked nicely, a little more of a sauce would have been nice, but overall I enjoyed this dish. Our friends had steaks, they were good, cooked exactly as ordered, but could have used more seasoning. Service was a bit off, but they're so new I think it's just getting the kinks out. read more

Food is good however the portion sizes are a joke. If I pay $115 for a meal, I expect not to be hungry when I get home. They have White Chocolate Mouse on their menu. The wait person advises that it's not white chocolate, it's milk chocolate. We ask the manager, his response is "sorry for the typo. We're not doing anything to comp." This is our second attempt at this place. We walked out on the first because no one would wait on us. At least this time we were waited on. Won't be a third visit. We flew in to visit family close to Wake Forest, and decided to have a light dinner here at The Heritage, prior to meeting up with our crew. The ambiance on the dining side is lovely, elegant but not overdone, and the whole restaurant feels very welcoming. The food was creative and delicious. We shared crab cakes for an appetizer, and the presentation was excellent, (and the cakes were, too! ) I had sea scallops risotto - scrumptious; and my husband had sausage and paper rustico - his adjectives were "delicious and satisfying." It is clearly an imaginative, bordering on gourmet, menu without being off-putting to "down home" folks. Service was impeccable. Everyone was friendly, nice and not overbearing in the slightest. We also walked through the wine barrel area -- terrific decor. Being a teetotaler, I don't think I will spend much time on THAT side of the venue next time we come, but I highly recommend to wine lovers! We'll be back. Thanks for your hospitality. read more

When I went to Heritage grille, I was celebrating my birthday with my parents. Additionally, I had just found out that I was pregnant and it was too early to share with people. Therefore, I went up to the waitress and asked if she could put a soda in a mule glass for me (to replace the Moscow mule I ordered). I explained that I was pregnant and did not want to share with my parents yet. She said no problem and I went to sit down. Our food was good (we loved the seafood dishes, the bolengese was not good). When the check came, the waitress had written on the receipt "non alcoholic drink- PREGNANT" and she handed it to my dad..... How absolutely unprofessional and upsetting! This was my first pregnancy and this waitress stole this moment from me. Instead of this being an exciting reveal when I was safely far enough along, it made this moment a very upsetting one. I will never go back to this restaurant and I will not recommend it to anyone. read more

Another restaurant in Heritage, exciting times of growth and we love to see it. This is the (third?) swing at this specific location that I'm aware of, and I honestly don't know why the others shuttered, so I'm actually interested to know what these owners plan to do differently. We had no trouble getting a Saturday night reservation through toast via a link they posted on WF Facebook- I'm not sure if it's the only way but it worked for us! We arrived and there was still parking available in the dedicated lot right at the doors but there was valet service..if you don't want to walk to the door? My husband and I debated why they have this but maybe once it takes off it will be more needed. We awkwardly walked by the valets turned doorman :) and we were eagerly greeted by three young hostesses with no issue and they hustled us right to our table. The ambiance was familiar, the noise level was high but not atrocious (in the front). Long and empty bar that might be fun to visit during the day or for a nightcap. What hit us first though was the humidity in the dining room. It wasn't crowded at all but it felt sticky to me, not sure if there was an issue w A/C but it was fine and I'm sure with weather changing it will shift. The set up was pretty much the same but they have tablecloths. I will note for those of us who don't like those side by side two seating, it's full of that. The dining room was pretty empty but they stacked three couples next to each other which is worse when it's not full. Hard to have those nice conversations, lucky for us our neighbors left before we did so we got privacy at the end. I don't recall music being piped tbh. The menus didn't seem to match the vibe to me - plastic and folded versus hardback and paper. Given the tablecloths , it felt clunky to me. The art on the walls felt dated and they could make some easy shifts to bring this back to life. Kudos to the bartender! My dirty vodka martini was *chefs kiss*. The wine selection was good and long (that's what she said). Nitpick here, put origin on the list if you can find room. Curated cocktail menu had lots of sugary sweet drinks available if that's your thing. Cold bottles of water brought without asking. For the food, this is where they both shined and failed. I think it's good to state that I felt set up for a high class experience given the price, but I think this is more slightly elevated - so go in with that mindset and you will not be disappointed at all. We ordered the Cuban bread which was dry but light, and the butter didn't seem special. Not in a basket, simple and on a plate. This was $6, and in a place like this maybe consider free bread? I had the watercress salad, and he had the lobster bisque. The salad was soaking wet, like it hadn't been spun so I couldn't really taste the vinaigrette and there was very little goat cheese. My husband said there was no lobster in the lobster bisque - it was more of a seafood broth with a spot of roe on the spoon. Just heads up. I had the chicken main and he had the sea bass, the sea bass was dry but the gratin potatoes were really really good, scratch and felt like home. My chicken was outstanding, and way too much of it, the veggies were cooked perfectly. I heard the table next to us (because they were right there) say it all needed more S&P but I thought mine was fine. I ordered the Baileys brûlée for dessert, the crust wasn't like glass, it was more thick (still good, I mean it's sugar), but I could only take one bite. Overall, we probably won't go again but maybe we will visit the bar area for snacks and tv. I heard they are thinking of putting in live music - that would be great! Good luck! read more

I went for an early dinner on a Tuesday. The staff seemed very young which had me nervous at first, not going to lie, but they were outstanding and very attentive and interactive. I got a glass of Malbec which was nice and there was a good wine selection. The fried duck ravioli was really nice and the wine reduction was really tasty, I just wish there was more of the black pepper crème fraiche because it was delightful! The snow crab clusters were cooked very well and were juicy and sweet. The scallops were seared nicely and I loved the goat cheese risotto. The crispy leeks were the perfect touch of salt. Went over the weekend to celebrate my birthday. I wanted a peaceful location, a steak and nice wine. That is exactly what i experienced. The greeting and service was friendly and professional. The menu is concise with enough to offer all tastes and diets. My dinner included NY strip served with vegetables and a risotto. Divine! We made reservations a month ago for Easter weekend. Once arrived, we waited 10 minutes and finally had to ask for a server to wait on us. When we finally had a server, the buffet was ok and a half step up from a hotel breakfast. The upgrade to seafood and meat was overrated - prime rib was very fatty and seemed to be what was left and the crab legs were ok. Our omelets were made wrong twice at which point we gave up. We spoke to the manager who said he'd come over to discuss more and never did. The only bright spot was the waitress in bunny ears from WV - she was a delight and salvaged what was an otherwise expensive, lackluster experience.
