Parking worked out for us, but I'd recommend arriving early unless you plan to use valet. Street parking nearby can be tight. The interior is charming and relaxed--exactly what you hope for in a French bistro. Our server was incredibly friendly and helpful, and the service throughout the meal was excellent. They also had a nice range of gluten-free options, which we appreciated. I had the Croque Madame and it was delicious. The mornay sauce was the standout--perfectly creamy with a smooth texture that didn't feel heavy. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. I debated leaving 2 stars but settled on 3 because the food was really tasty. We came in on a Sunday at 5:45 pm. We ordered the lobster bisque special and shrimp to start and placed our order for dinner fairly quickly after sitting down. The two appetizers came out right away and were very unique. We then waited an hour and a half for our entrees. Our server checked in multiple times saying they were on their way/ coming soon. We were just two people and ordered steak frites and mussels. No special order or anything complex. These are two of the most popular items. We watched tables get served and flip to new people in the time it took to get our entrees. Second time at Vin Rouge; first was brunch, so good we had to try dinner! Started with escargot, shrimp Provençal, blue crab claws and the caramelized onion tart. All were excellent; fresh, perfectly cooked and full of authentic flavor. The tart was exceptionally good: a tall slice, moist and rich, onions sweet and delicious. For mains, two of us had the almandine, both loved it. Ali's right off the skin, perfect cook, wonderful flavors. Husband had the pork chop, said the flavors were all on point, but the chop was just north of tender and the potatoes, cabbage and sauce could have been hotter. The French bistro setting is charming and feels authentic; server was friendly and helpful, and went the extra mile (as did the kitchen) to ensure a friend's allergy was accommodated; oysters were bracing and briny. I had a wonderful birthday dinner here in Nov 2025. We had a Saturday 5pm reservation a couple of weeks ago and had a completely different experience. The service was rough and it seemed like our waiter was avoiding us (but not the tables next to us...). It was difficult to even get a second drink or more water. The restaurant was hot and there were several flies buzzing around. I just expect a lot more from a $200 dinner for two. Maybe we caught them on a bad night. The moules frites are delicious though! To those of us who are not, Vin Rouge might prove to be one the finest dining experiences in the South. I didn't take pictures of the food because nothing could do the food - or at least what I had that Thursday night on September 18 - justice. I sat at the bar, closest to where the servers pick up their drinks, because that's how I have found you learn the most about restaurants. Alan bartended that night and only elevated the experience with his down-to-earth charm and spot-on instinct for giving guests their space. I never had to wait for a single thing I asked for and his recommendations were glorious. I started with the North Carolina mussels, a briny, mouthwatering half-dozen of the state's finest served with mignonette sauce (((applause))), cocktail sauce, and lemon which momentarily made me think I could fly. (Gravity had other plans.) My main course was the Côtes de Porc with a Cream Cognac Sauce and tangy slaw that almost made me shat. Honestly, if my incisors were sharp enough, I would have easily gnawed through that bone. Lord have mercy! They have an impressive list of French Wines and the whole place is exactly what to expect from a French bistro (though I would have loved some back support from their bar stools). I got to speak with some of the managers (a hoot!) and a one of the staff who, I mentioned to him, did the work of three of his co-workers. I wish I could remember his name. This was not something I do every day, spend close to $300 dollars for one evening in a superb restaurant. But if I could, there is no question I'd be eating there once a week. The service is simple, attentive, and upscale as bread/olive spread is served, utensils are changed out for you, and all the food is brought out at the same time. This is not French cuisine. Calling Fish of the day, Poisson du jour doesn't make it French. There are no classic French dishes like Coq au Vin or Cassoulet or beouf bourguignon. So why did I give this place 5 stars? It's Great! The atmosphere is very warm and rustic. The staff are fantastic and incredibly accommodating and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. The appetizers we all shared were very good. I had the hanger steak medium rare. It was cooked perfectly. We ended dinner with a mix of desserts served like a charcuterie board. This was our second time dining at Vin Rouge, and while the food and ambiance were as great as our first visit, the service was not. The server carded my 25 year old daughter, who did not have her ID, so couldn't enjoy a glass of wine with dinner. The manager was apologetic when we showed him a photo of her driver's license and said there was nothing he could do. What he could have done, it seems to me, was to offer a dessert or coffee or something to make up for us not being able to enjoy the celebratory dinner we had planned. The elderly couple at the next table was similarly disappointed. They were celebrating a birthday and got a blank, unsigned card printed on the outside with the restaurant's name, but no dessert or any kind of genuine expression of celebration. We will return for the good food (prawns Provencale and macaroni and cheese were excellent) and charming ambiance, and hope that the service is more gracious in the future. read more

We did have one hit and a few misses. A comfortable place to have dinner and the wait staff was good as always. My husband's salmon with lentils was so delicious. I wish we had just shared that with a salad. I ordered escargot for a starter and the Shrimp Provençal as my main. My husband had the baked clams for a starter. My dishes lacked enough garlic (what is escargot without lots of garlicy sauce) and all three dishes were much too acidic. I don't understand it because we have eaten those selections before and enjoyed them immensely. A minor note, but a little disappointing--the woman next to me got her piece of celebration birthday cake. The place is a nice French bistro type feel with a bright and open front/bar area then a more traditional type of back seating area where we ended up. Drink orders were placed and we got the three cheese plate to start things off...this plate was great! However places never seem to bring enough bread pieces with the cheese plates but luckily we had bread still around from the bread/butter we enjoyed when we first sat down. The cheese choices made were wonderful and I enjoyed the cheese selections for starters. Their brunch menu had some good offerings to choose from. For my main dish, I chose the Mushroom & Gruyère Omelette with petite salade and pommes Lyonnaise...I decided to go with the lardons added (for a charge). My omelette was delicious, a good portion and well filled. The pommes Lyonnaise were OK for me but I had pommes frites envy from looking at my friend's plate and I got to sample them...I liked those pommes frites a lot. The best dining experience I've had in America. The outdoor section looks identical to the places i've visited in Paris. Absolutely beautiful. The formality was incredible- I felt like a queen having supper. Every single item we ordered was thoroughly enjoyed and the waitstaff was extremely attentive to our every move. Came here on a rainy Sunday for brunch with my boyfriend. We got seated quickly on the heated patio. Food was delicious and very high quality & quantity - rare yellowfin was done just right, and I was pleasantly surprised by the portion of my mussels. Service was great and attentive. Busy Sunday, so they provided us with extra bread during the wait. It does have some parking spots right in front of the restaurant, but it gets quite busy. The tables are close together, but it feels just right. Everyone else is probably also having a delightful dinner, so don't you want to share the experience? Apple bread pudding - delicious although the topping of cream would be better as ice cream instead. Very dense and cakey bread pudding if you're into that. Not overly sweet.
