This place goes between a 1 star and a 4 star. The past two times my family ate here, we ordered sirloin steaks. The ribeye is usually too fatty, the New York is very dry and the filet mignon is just a hit or miss. We've eaten here and it's been extremely delicious. But we've also eaten here and are disgusted. They just aren't consistent. So, last time we ordered two sirloin steak for pick up. What we actually got was a New York and some other piece of meat that was about 1/4 inch thick on one side and 2 inches thick on the other. It was like cutting and eating cardboard. $80 for a couple of meals we wouldn't even feed to our dogs. This has happened too many times. You never know what you're gonna get when you eat here. My friend recommended me to try this place. But it was a disappointment. We ordered the rib&steak and the dream team sampler. We asked for medium rare steaks. The steak taste pretty bad, the meat texture and quality is not decent. The rib is pretty good but not worth the price. The onion ring is pretty good though. Top Serlion: Ordered a medium steak that was rare , when asked the server she told us it was cooked correctly. French Dip There was more meat on my side than on the sandwich, the bread was soaked with garlic butter. Alaskan COD & Fried Pickles Both were served semi warm, and extremely heavy not sure if they sat in the oil if the oil wasn't hot enough, something was wrong Food is over priced if they are going to charge for the sides "that come with your meal" $25.00 extra in sides. Had to ask for sauces that came with the meal. The server didn't refill drinks once that were "BOTTOMLESS" just get water unless you want to pay $4.00 for single non alcoholic drink. There was a $20 forced gratuity for 3 people and then they asked if I would add to the gratuity. Hickory used to be one of my favorites, I would rather go across the street to Arby's or Jack in The Box. This is the 4th and final bad experience I have had at the hickory in a row. This place used to be super good. But it has seriously gone way down hill. They have changed so many great meals arhat are now just awful. The last 3x my family and I went here food was terrible and over priced. The TBA has been my favorite since my first time here. Now it's disgusting. This place is the reason for the origination of the phrase "hit or miss" restaurant. When it's good food, they nail it. Brisket, steak, shrimp, prime rib, burger- all can be fabulous. But other times the Turkey is dry and cold, the brisket is leathery dry and burned beyond recognition, and the steak is so salty you'll taste it into next week. The sides are much more consistent- mac and cheese is always tasty, as are the green beans and salads. They also have some fun drinks. And let's face it- we all have off days, and the good days are good enough that I'll keep coming back, hoping for the sublime experience of a juicy beef brisket. Also, the staff is helpful and will try to make it right if you've been disappointed. read more

Lemme start by saying this. For Rexburg you just have to lower your standards for food. My sister and a couple of friends and I have two different rating systems. One is just in general like compared to all the places we've been around the world based on price, quality, service, atmosphere, taste etc. The second rating system is called "Rexburg standards" it's based off of the same thing however we lower the expectations because Rexburg's food and service and everything in general is just not superb compared to the rest of the US and world lol. That's why I give this place 5 stars because for Rexburg standards it's good! Probably the nicest place in Rexburg! The service is good, quality is good, food is good, price is good. Only downsides are desserts and bathrooms. Desserts (I have tried three different ones) are always a miss. I usually love apple cobbler and wanted to like the apple-berry cobbler, but it was a soupy mess, as was peach cobbler. And bathrooms are single stall and often smelly. onth ago First time I went was on a busy Friday night, we called ahead for a table and still had to wait 30 mins to be seated(expected for a weekend) the food was delicious, the brisket and pulled pork and it hit the spot. We only saw our server twice, to take our order and then bring us our food and the check at the same time. Went a second time( 6 months later) and the service was super quick( it was a Thursday night) and our server was a great help! I had the Honey Badger Burger and it was out of this world! In a strip mall, almost missed it. Huge mason jars of lemonade in gazillion flavors. I had the hucklebery, very refreshing. I ordered a combo: ribs and brisket. The ribs were fairly meaty, looked a little burned which I usually don't mind, but they were dry on the top and moist underneath. The brisket was quite lean, 3 thick slices surprizingly tender considering the thickness, but not a whole lot of flavor. Combo came with 2 sides, and they have a lot of choices, and a biscuit. My 2 sides were allegedly handcut french fries and green beans with bacon. The green beans were fresh at some point earlier today but must have been sitting in a pot of water all day because they were mushy (I did ask for them 2b well done) and the bacon wasn't crisp or brown but grey and limp. Their dessert board looked great. I ordered huckleberry cheesecake; regular cheesecake with huckleberry compote on top. I left full with leftover brisket, and an hour later still feel grease in my mouth but can't figure out from what. If I was in town longer I might consider going back but earlier in the day for fresh food, not at 8pm when they close at 9pm i.e. I think I got the last dregs of things. read more

We decided to try The Hickory because we heard the shrimp was good. The shrimp was okay, but how can you eat shrimp without cocktail sauce. They said they were out but suggested jalapeño something or other. Yuck! Have you ever gone to a place to eat knowing that you are going to get shrimp and fully expecting to enjoy the shrimp with cocktail sauce. Enough ranting about the cocktail sauce. Great food/great service. We are up here from out of town. Kyla was fantastic. She took care of all our needs. Turkey Bacon Spinach wraps...the best! Sweet potato fries + a special sweet dipping sauce...I've never had anything like it. Turkey noodle soup is ah-may-zing. Only get a cup though...if you get a bowl, you'll be too full for anything else. Great family atmosphere. I've read reviews about poor service but after going twice (both around lunch time) I haven't had a problem. The first time I got their brisket sandwich, it was incredibly juicy and flavorful! The second time I got the honey badger burger. While it was really good it wasn't my favorite- it has pulled pork wrapped in pastrami topped with bacon and also has a beef patty. There were too many competing flavors and it was a bit too greasy. Then again when you order something with that much meat that's too be expected. However, I had their sweet potato fries and they really impressed me. They weren't soggy but perfectly cooked with a slight crisp. Overall, I love the atmosphere, service, and quality of food.
