On December 27, 2025, my husband and I had a concerning experience at Hideaway Restaurant that I believe deserves attention and transparency. Upon our arrival around 10 minutes before 8 PM, we were asked for identification as we proceeded to the bar. Everything seemed fine until we left around 10:11 PM. As my husband retrieved his cigarettes from his coat pocket and grabbed our clear food container, a security guard, a heavy-set gentleman in a purple sweatshirt and blue jeans, without any visible identification or formal security apparel, hustled behind us, inquiring about a drink cup. Despite having food, we were treated with suspicion. A second security personnel member followed (Not schedule to work named Charles W.), dressed in casual street clothes without any visible identification or formal security apparel adding to the discomfort with an aggressive demeanor. I voiced my concern, stating, "We are not like that." This wasn't just an innocent misunderstanding; it felt like profiling. As my husband enjoyed his cigar, the second security guard continued to watch us, which was both unwarranted and unsettling. In an environment that claims to embrace Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, we saw none of that during our visit. Questions for the owner of Hideaway Restaurant: 1. Why do your security staff not wear recognizable uniforms or badges? How are patrons supposed to identify your security personnel? 2. What protocols are in place to ensure that all staff, especially security, are trained in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion standards? 3. How do you handle incidents of alleged profiling or discrimination, and what measures are taken to address such concerns? 4. Can you explain the training procedures for security personnel regarding interactions with patrons, especially in terms of recognizing and addressing possible biases? 5. What actions will you take to ensure that no other patrons experience what we did? 6. Are your security personnel certified and properly trained according to Maryland state regulations? We believe that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, irrespective of their background. I urge everyone who has faced similar issues to share their stories. Neighborhood spot...went for the karaoke after reading reviews. Friendly patrons and server. However, microphone waaaay too loud, especially when people sang. Was disappointed when I was told I couldn't order a side of fries. I would have had to purchase meat (don't eat meat), just to get fries...crazy. Went there today after hiking at Cosca Regional Park. The food was good and the staff and clientele friendly. Caution - this is a bar, not a family restaurant. That said, all good. Note that drinks are ordered at the bar and food via a QR code or ordering screen at the bar. I chose the latter and it was easy to use. We had a hamburger, cheese steak sandwich, chicken breast sandwich and catfish tenders, all good, and the fries very good. read more

I get why this is called "The Hideaway" LOL!!! GPS has you turning into KFC and it looks like that's the only thing in the parking lot, but if you look closely you see that it's quite a large lot and you need to drive behind the KFC! Clever, clever! My friend and I arrived, and it was quite interesting that the sign said 30+ only... my buddy just made it... a few months ago and he would've been too young XD. Anyways, our IDs were checked, and then we went to the bar. We saw that all the seats were full, so we decided to grab a table. There was plenty of space, and I noticed some pool tables in the back where people were playing... nice! Upon closer inspection, I saw that it was $2 per game and there was a money machine back there. There was a big sign on the wall with the NFL game schedule and some game day deals (like $3 beers), and that was cool. I could tell from the vibe of the spot that there wouldn't be someone coming to our table, so I went to the bar. I saw that a couple had a menu, so I asked to see it and they kindly obliged. They have GREAT prices on food! Burgers and sandwiches are literally $5+ depending on how complex they are... and there were standard bar appetizers and salads as well. Nothing super unique, but great prices for the most part. The bartender finally noticed me and asked if I was waiting to order... and when I said 'yes' she rudely told me not to stand in between people and wait in line. I had no idea there was a line (I genuinely didn't look over) and there was no sign indicating that you need to do so when the bar is full. I kindly apologized, saying it was my first time, but that initial reaction really didn't make a first impression for me. There were about 7 people in line (yikes), and it was kind of just cramming the bar space. After 5-10 minutes, the line didn't even budge... all the while, that same lady was calling out names for food, and quite honestly, the way she called them out was just furthering the not so good vibe for me. There's a way to shout kindly... you know? There was a lady in front of us that saw we had gone straight to the bar first and saw how the bartender had treated us... she apologized on her behalf and said that normally she's not the only one working and that sometimes she acts like that but ultimately she's a nice person. As I said earlier... not a great first impression. My friend and I decided to leave since it felt like we would be in line for at least a half hour... and would most likely have to do that for every order we wanted to make. I would be willing to come back on a day when it's not going to be so crowded to give it another chance, but I felt the need to share this experience. I am not sure if it's the same owners or not, but there is another 'Hideaway' in Odenton, but I chose this one because my friend was coming all the way from VA. I use to love Hideaway but my recent visits haven't been so pleasant. There are normally 2 security guards at the door and the light skinned one is always nice and pleasant. The other tall one of darken complexion is always very rude. He constantly locks the doors, harasses me for my ID and smokes inside of the building when he promotes that this a non smoking establishment to the customers. I understand that there are rules to be followed but I've seen a lot of people turn away from your business when he's there. He's definitely not a good representation for your business. So I came to Maryland for the Free Her march , and we decided we wanted to go somewhere for a drink , food and some music. Myself and three of my girls chose this bar / restaurant because it was close to our hotel (as we are tourist ) First the security was soo rude it made no sense. I realized i left my ID in my room and when i mentioned i had to get it he replied " I really dont care , your not getting in " then followed us out the door and locked the place down like we were intimidating a 6' something man . What's not to love about hideaway? The drinks are strong, wings are bomb and the music is good! That's everything I've ever wanted in life. No, but seriously, this is a chill spot that has a lot of regulars and great drinks. I think they have Karaoke, but I'm not sure what day of the week it is. There's a few pool tables scattered about and a good amount of seating at the bar. I love a good hole in the wall type of spot that has strong drinks so I have ZERO complaints. First time and last time visiting this place. Went on a Sunday about 6:30pm. The place looks as though it could use some major renovations, everything is old. The bathrooms are not clean either, they are practically falling apart. Flooring was chipped and peeling, parts of the wall missing and exposed pipes and ceiling tiles missing. There was a nice size crowd there (must be the regulars) at the bar mostly. There are a few pool tables, if that's your thing. They were occupied most of the night. A few flat screens to watch the football games but no sports package so, you will only watch the televised games on local channels. I ended up at The Hideaway by tagging along with a friend who frequents the place. It is definitely appropriately named; there's no way I would have ever stumbled upon this place by accident. It sits far back from the road, directly behind some other businesses, so you really have to just know that it's there. The Hideaway is your typical neighborhood bar. There's nothing about the place that you can call fancy but that is what adds to its charm. It definitely draws an older crowd and on a Friday night, it's pretty packed. Arriving around 8 PM and it was impossible to grab two sets at the bar. The drinks provide your standard bar options (and I was happy to see that they offered hard cider) and the bartenders were very attentive,even though they stayed busy. The place charges $5 to enter after 9 PM (even if you arrive prior to and leave to say, retrieve something from your car, you'll have to pay to get back in) and while the cost is negligible, I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay it. This is a really decent, no frills sort of place to hang out for a low key night of fun. I visited this place on a whim with a friend while looking for something to do on a rainy night. When we first arrived we noticed it is on the small side, and is definitely not fancy but the people seemed to be enjoying themselves. There are a few pool tables, televisions, a long bar and a small area for bands to set up and play/dance floor. We were lucky enough to stop by on Karaoke night, which ended up bringing in a full house. It was $5 after 9pm to enter if I'm not mistaken. The food was very reasonably priced and the drinks were about average for the what is expected in the area. We ordered chicken wings, which were huge and delicious. After Karaoke ended, the DJ (who was pretty good by the way) played a diverse selection of music and many people danced. We ended up having a blast. People watching (and shaking your head at them) prime spot. If you feel like you are old and out of style, come here to get that feeling that maybe I am not as bad as I thought. Just know what this place is. A down home spot for the average Joe and Jane to unwind and have a funky good time. When I went I saw the least amount of smart phone pic taking I have seen in years. I don't understand for the life of me why my friends like to hang out at this spot. There is always some crazy issue with the staff, the dj, or the police officers that work there. I tried to give this place another shot in spite of the bad experiences that I've had there, but like always the customer service is just a mess. Last night my friend paid for a dinner that we never received. And when I tried to explain to them that they gave our order to someone else the chef got nasty with me. So my friend and I went here last night because the local hotel recommended it to play pool. I feel like I have to preface this by saying we are not the Hideaway's normal clientele...that said, we could not have had a better time. What a good bunch of people there.
