BEST MASSAGE I'VE EVER HAD! Came here for a Swedish couples massage for my 3rd anniversary. The Hideaway is located in the north tower on the "M" (Mezzanine) level. The front desk was super nice and our massage therapists took us back shortly after checking in. SHOUT OUT TO ANNA! She was who worked on me today. She really did a great job. It was honestly the best massage I've ever had. I could feel that she pays close attention to detail during the massage. Her pressure was perfect. She hit all the major areas I told her I felt needed work. I really can't say enough about it. She was great! My wife had Heather. She said she was also great and stated it was one of the best massages she's also had. We both loved that after the massage they individually told us what areas were tight and what areas we should stretch more. Johanna is very intuitive- she knew where my energy blocks were and where I was harboring tension in my body. Her pressure was perfect; she also made sure to check in with me to make sure I was ok. As soon as we checked into the Marriott, we walked straight to the concierge desk for a booking for two massages!! We were lucky to have found a last minute appointment for two the next morning!!! We booked for an hour massage each. So we're looking forward to the relaxation massage. A nice relaxed hour of pure bliss. So we're in separate rooms. I am told to put my things this little corner table. Get under the warm covers and relax. No problem!! There's a light knock on the door and I say come in!!! My masseuse comes in and talks very softly. As I am getting my massage, I can tell he found my stress knots. He works his magic. Gently stretching the knot and a little pressure. At first, in my thoughts, I thought that wouldn't work. He was gentle, yet all the knots disappeared. Most others would apply more pressure to work. By the end of the hour, I was one relaxed noodle!!! When you come, you'll need to show up about 10 to 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork!! A little questionnaire about yourself like everyone else needs. The little waiting spot is very quaint. They offer hot tea or water while you wait. I would come back again when in town. read more

My best friend and I had a Groupon for a spa day here with couple massages. The massages were great and the staff was gracious even though we were running late for our appointment. I could have used a bit more pressure for my deep tissue, but I still enjoyed it. My literal only complaint is that our Groupon came with a 3 piece starter kit, and I had to ask about it, as no one gave it to us. And then once they grabbed it they were almost hesitant to give us it. And so I had to ask again. Finally they gave it to us, and it was a tiny 2 piece kit. I must agree with the review by Eliza L. I was expecting a pretty unique massage, especially after it is hyped up with a private elevator. The spa is accessible in one of the towers with a marked elevator. Once you get to the spa, it opens up to the check in counter. There doesn't seem to be too much space for this spa. For the price I pay, I would expect to have a lounge area and hot tub. I didn't get that here. My service started on time. My therapist was nice enough and I was given a bed in a room for a couples massage. Which I thought was strange. I didn't know if the spa was busy or not but the room was big. I told the therapist my problem area (upper back and shoulders) and that it is a challenging area. He constantly commented that "wow, you need several appointments...your back is really bad...etc". Yes, I know, that is why I'm here and that I told you already. The massage was fine enough. He did dig deeper than I liked to the point of hurting me and he loosened the pressure when I asked him. I liked the hot towel aspects of the massage and the lighting. I wasn't in love with this massage and I wouldn't recommend it as a must do. Just had one of the first massages at the soft open of the Exquisite Hideaway located inside the Bayfront Marriott. The place is super cute has a very earthy but tastefully exquisite vibe. They offer custom teas and scents and the high end tables are incredibly comfy. My therapist was Olivia and I can't speak highly enough. Being a massage therapist myself I am pretty critical. Olivia has warm, firm, trustworthy and intuitive hands. Her rhythm is trans inducing and yet somehow invigorating at the same time. I left feeling like I could skip home. The Hideaway Spa is located in the Marriot Marquis Hotel Marina. There's an elevator from the north tower that opens right up to this tiny reception area. I assumed there was the normal spa amenities including a locker, sauna, shower, etc so I arrived an hour early. No such luck. It is more like a massage envy. You walk directly to your treatment room when your appointment time is called. That was a big let down. The massage however, wasn't. Kathy was my therapist and was a true professional. There were areas that I was having pain and she was very knowledgeable. She's pleasant and loves what she does. I would have ranked it much lower except for the fact she did such a great job. I will note the lower ranking on the Marriot hotel review since it is their job to provide guests with a real spa. They advertise it to be a great experience yet they don't give the contracted spa enough space even though there are wide open spaces as far as you can see along the inside facing the pool. They should really know better being a Marriot. read more

Everyone who works here is really sweet and nice, however, my massage was the worse. I asked for a Swedish massage and actually got a deep tissue. I even asked the man to go lighter, but he didn't listen at all. I actually don't think he knows the difference between the two and only knows how to perform one technique. Don't get me wrong, he knows how to give a tough massage, but that isn't what I needed- especially since I'm 100 pounds! I won't get in too much detail since I don't want to offend the poor man, but please give more education to both employees who helped us. Won't ever come back to this place. read more

I am writing to express my complete disappointment with today's facial. Though I am a loyal marriott reward memmlber, I will not use this spa service again. I called to schedule a facial, expressly requesting the higher cost option so as to include extractions. Upon arrival, I was asked to complete a form where I again indicated my desire to have extractions. When I was called in to the room, I immediately noticed that the woman servicing me did not make eye contact with me. Immediately, I could tell that she seemed less than thrilled to be servicing me. Once in the room, she asked what I was most looking floor and I said I am interested in relaxing and having my skin glow - two very basic expectations from a facial. I never once requested that she not perform any of the standard parts of my $135 facial. After she was done and as I was checking out, I asked the receptionist to inquire whether any extractions had been done and the receptionist confirmed that none had been. I could not have been more upset. I honestly feel that the woman servicing me tried to take advantage of me. I met with the manager who reduced my price by half and then invited me to have another facial with extractions at half off. Help me out here. Why would I pay any amount of money to this company again? I honestly could not get out of their fast enough. Please be transparent with your customers and treat all of them the same. This means give each of them the full service of what they pay for unless they specifically request not to have some part of that service. Very disappointed. read more

My mother and I got a "couples" massage at the Hideaway, and it was absolutely divine! My therapist was Danielle and her's was Ling. We were both thoroughly impressed! I like to think I can handle some deep pressure, but Danielle was really able to make an impact. She worked on my "Candy Crush" shoulder (the nickname I've given the ache I constantly have to the left of my right shoulder-blade that I attribute to using my smart phone WAY too much), and I was pain-free for days. My mom constantly has issues with a "frozen shoulder" (maybe it's hereditary?), and she swears she had full range of motion after her massage that lasted for weeks!! I will definitely be returning on a more regular basis to this beautiful and serene location. Pro-tip- Plan on arriving 15 minutes early, turning off your phone, and relaxing in the Zen room, just enjoying some of the delicious teas they have on hand while allowing your body to relax and prepare for a truly exquisite experience. read more

From the moment we walked through the door everyone we came in contact with was personable, polite, and professional. As far as the massage goes, BEST ONE I HAVE EVER HAD. My massage therapist, Valentin, was a complete gem. Based on his service alone I would come back here and give five stars every time. My boyfriend's massage therapist was Ling and he said she was phenomenal as well. I am an esthetician so I find myself being picky when it comes to facials, but Scott took very good care of my darling BF for his first ever "in spa" facial. She is skilled, professional and as nice as can be! Just book it, you'll be happy you did. And Scott provides a lovely facial so book him too! The only downside is that the spa is so tiny it doesn't have a true spa feel- no showers or dressing rooms. So you really need to be a guest at the hotel unless you like leaving, and looking like, we'll, like you've had a massage. What an amazing place and experience I had at The Hideaway. I was there for a convention a couple of weeks ago. Was at the concierge desk finding out about restaurants in the area when I saw a brochure for The Hideaway. When I saw they offered massages I was like sign me up. I called immediately and they got me in for an appointment the next day--- very accommodating. Their front desk staff was great! The setup was very nice and relaxing. I had been signed up with someone who ended up being sick that day. Bad luck for them but GREAT for me as Jasmine ended up working on me. Jasmine is absolutely AMAZING!!!! I don't know what that last reviewer is talking about. Jasmine took her time with me and found out what I needed. She did the most amazing deep tissue massage I have ever had and I've had many over the years as I am beyond tight. Her strength in those magic hands blew me away. She went above and beyond in her techniques to loosen my stubborn muscles/knots. No one has ever been able to do this before. I was so blown away that I immediately signed up for another session before I was leaving town. I was more 'open' then I ever have been walking out of a deep tissue massage. All my friends said I looked so relaxed. I felt it both physically and emotionally. If I could give 10 stars I would. Jasmine is amazing at her craft and a genuinely nice person to boot. Tranquil Setting, Amazing Services, and High End Products! My Mom and I had a girl's day at the Hideaway (90 minute relieve massage for her, 90 minute signature facial for me). My Mom loves her massages and said that hers was fantastic. My facial was relaxing and I came out hydrated and glowing. I was given great information about what my skin was lacking and saw improvements after my treatment (and I appreciated that there was no hard sell on the products). The space is gorgeous and their products smell great! The front desk staff were friendly and accommodating, making check-in and check-out a breeze. (Make sure you take them up on their offer of hot tea, mine was an herbal raspberry blend and delicious!) I had such a great time, I've already booked 60 minute massages for myself and a friend who is coming to visit for New Years. The Hideaway is a short walk from Seaport Village and an easy trip over from Coronado on the ferry. A great way to enjoy a little relaxation before heading out to enjoy everything San Diego has to offer! read more

This is located in Marriott Marquis and appears they have done just the basics in order to say they provide spa service. If you look forward to the total spa experience, look elsewhere. This is basically just a massage room. While the therapist was very good (though the lotion should be heated so wasn't cold when applied), the rest is unimpressive, overpriced, and unexpected from the Marquis brand. Step into the waiting room and you'll be taken back into the 80's and may think you've walked into a low rent strip center. While limited space, this room could easily be updated to provide a more luxurious feeling with little effort. While I am a Marriott fan and enjoy spa services when I travel, this ranks at the bottom of my hotel experiences. read more

My girlfriend and I were in town visiting San Diego and we usually get massages every two weeks because we have very challenging schedules. We booked our appointment for a couples massage using a Groupon which is attached below. First, I would start with the massage which my girlfriend said here's was horrible. She informed me that the massage therapist didn't use enough oil and when she informed her she said she just feels that way because she was tight. Like I mentioned before we get massages twice a week Mandara at Sis Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Hotel. We are also asked questions during our massages and any concerns are fixed immediately. I don't know why the massage therapist would try to brush off her comments. She also informed me she was to rough on the headed massage. Just a suggestion I wish they would also give you robes after getting undressed but that minor. The other thing in our Groupon was two glasses of wine which you would think you would receive before the massage to calm and relax you a little instead we got them afterwards and I had to ask if we were still getting our glasses and I had to enjoy my standing instead of seating and relaxing because the lobby was full. It would have been better to enjoy the glasses of wine and our massage room. In all I don't know if we would go back there but if things were addressed we would reconsider because we will be back in San Diego soon or we will just look for a different Spa to visit. read more

This is a hard one to write, because the experience was very bimodal. The massage that we got was excellent. The issue is that it was only 15 minutes instead of the hour we had contracted for because the receptionist totally and completely botched the reservation. First, our appointment was for 8:30 pm. The receptionist wrote it down as 7:15 pm. When we arrived we were told that had been listed as a no show. They also told us that they had sent an email confirming the time of the appointment. This could not have been possible because I did not give them my email. That was the second huge lie or mistake. The receptionist then said that they had sent a text confirming the appointment. I had NOT received a from them. Why? Because they wrote my cell number down wrong, even though I had given it to them twice. At the end of a long day for us, the Hideaway failed to provide us with what we needed. read more

I loved it here. I came for an emergency neck/ shoulder fix. Idk why i keep pulling some neck muscle and it becomes hard to turn my head. I couldn't fully raise my arm without feeling a sharp neck stab! Anyhoo, i was staying at the Marquis and remembered Hideaway was here! So i gingerly went to the office asked if they had short sessions as i needed to catch a flight that afternoon. The ended up having an opening in 20 mins! Which was perfect! Scott was amazing, his specialty is neck/ shoulder/ back and he is some kind of magician! I loved that he was able to identify which neck muscle and side was hurt. Even though it was a short 30 mins it felt way longer because of this efficient/ smart use of time. By the end of the session i could TURN MY NECK AGAIN, and raise my arms! Amazing!!! I've only met 2 therapists that can make such an impact in 1 session, and Scott is one of them. I highly recommend!! read more

I had A 60 min deep tissue with Lukas(?), the owner. I have had two spinal surgeries that required hip grafts, though this was 17 years ago. As a bowler, I have been experiencing severe hip pain for the last 5-6 years. I have had 3 cortisone shots and have quit tournament bowling and was ready to quit period due to the pain. There was a huge Orthopedic Surgeon convention going on and I explained to my therapist that I suspected some of my hip/groin pain was related to the graft and scar tissue, but that the Ortho doc said nope. Well Mr Masssage therapist said if you want me to work out that scar tissue, I will. It was not pleasant, but I am bowling pain free for the first time in years. If I cannot find someone as knowledgeable and skilled I will fly my hip back to San Diego for the best hip physical therapy I have ever had. Thank you! This guy knows his stuff! read more

She gave me one of the most custom & effective deep tissue massages. My husband is in there now with her. I can't wait to hear. Christina massaged my daughter and she's very satisfied as well. Okay, I kind of feel bad leaving a 1-star review because the staff seems very nice and the facility is nice. This review is specifically about the massage experience I had with Jasmine. While Jasmine seems like she is probably a very nice and straight forward person, the massage was the worst I've ever experienced. Jasmine was very abrupt, with a very heavy tread and bumping into things in the room as she walked around. She very quickly got started with the massage, then remembered that she needed to turn the light off- so I felt her stretching away with one hand still "massaging" with the other hand while she took care of the light. I had ordered the hot stone massage which I have enjoyed in the past. However, this time the lack of proper technique had the stones clacking around, often dropping on me or being roughly placed. The pressure was good (she had asked beforehand what my preference was), but the technique was very jarring, disjointed, and rough. There was little account for muscle attachments or bony areas- it was more like she was attacking a steak that needed tenderized before grilling. About 20 minutes into the massage, Jasmine asked me why I wasn't relaxing, which I explained as delicately as I could. She then determined that perhaps we weren't a good fit... and then she left the room and ended the massage just as abruptly as she began it. I was left laying on the massage table wondering what just happened. I don't think she meant a single bit of this to be a poor experience. However, that didn't stop it from being the worst massage of my life. On another note, my friend had a great massage at the same time, which she came out of feeling fabulous. EDITED TO ADD: I see from another review below that the spa has had at least one other negative review about Jasmine almost identical to mine. Perhaps some changes should be made before more vacation massages are ruined? read more

I've had two massages here on two separate visits to San Diego. The first one was with a massage therapist named Kim (I believe) who was absolutely fabulous (5 stars for her). I enjoyed every minute of it and it was well worth the money. Because of this amazing first experience, I decided to go back to The Hideaway when I was in San Diego last month (this review is for the second massage). I asked for Kim but she was on leave so the receptionist booked me with another therapist. I don't recall his name. I want to preface this by saying that I have had many professional massages done by both male and female therapists which is why I had no issue with a male masseuse when Kim wasn't available. This was the worst massage that I've ever had. I was so uncomfortable the entire time and have never experienced anything like it. There were many instances where I came close to stopping the massage. One of these instances included a part of the massage where I was told to turn over, face up, where he proceeded to hold the sheet over me (clearly not covering me) while I turned. I knew he could see everything. He then covered my breasts with a small towel and began massaging my stomach area. I have never experienced a 'stomach massage' nonetheless the exposure of my body like that during a massage. Other uncomfortable moments included awkward and, sometimes painful, stretching that really didn't cover the lower half of my body. He maneuvered my legs in such a way where I felt completely uncomfortable; looking back now, it was inappropriate. My experience with Kim versus the second therapist was vastly different, despite ordering the exact same, 2-hour, Swedish massage. I am leaving this review over a month later because I spoke to other massage therapists, both male and female, about my experience. They all said that what occurred was inappropriate and that I should leave a review so that others can be made aware. In addition, I didn't say anything then because I wasn't sure if these things were a normal part of the massage. I wanted to speak to professional massage therapists that I have worked with first before saying anything - I also tend to always give the benefit of the doubt. I understand that different therapists have different styles. However, this wasn't a case of different styles at all. Overall, this experience has put me off to getting another massage anytime soon. read more

Visited the Hideaway Spa in San Diego this weekend for the second time. First experience was a booking mix up. The owner/manager didn't accommodate and I had to rebook to get the services requested. Second time around, another booking error. For this appointment, I made sure I confirmed the services and massage therapist preference. And it didn't happen. I did receive a 50% discount on one massage for the booking error, which was appreciated but still an inconvenience. Not only was there booking issues, the treatments were not to the level of a resort spa. I had a male massage therapist and at times it felt a little uncomfortable. My daughter received a massage that felt like it was from a therapist in training. Needless to say, it was not a relaxing experience and I will not be visiting this spa again nor do I recommend it. read more

I recently visited San Diego on vacation and decided to treat myself to a facial with a deal I found on Groupon. I've had several facials in my life but Kim far exceeded any expectations I had in both her relaxation techniques and clinical knowledge. The facial itself included massage, quality product applications and extractions. It was a complete sensory experience with beautiful music and scenery and amazing smells. Kim completed my facial, then spent a few extra minutes explaining my skin type and giving me advice for taking better care of it. It was like talking to a doctor! She is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and I cannot recommend her enough. The staff is also very friendly. Great addition to the Marriott's offering of services. Had visited this property 5 years ago and was disappointed when they didn't offer services on site. Great to come back to find they offered a perfect variety. I called at 9 on the night of arrival to book for the next day, and since they were closed, I left a message. The manager, Zach, called back within 5 minutes to schedule the services. Awesome after hours, attention which shouldn't be expected, but shows how much they all care about customer experience. Nail services were offered outside, poolside, which was great. Couples massages were ideal and every aspect of the experience was very personal. Highly recommended! read more
