As soon as we checked into the Marriott, we walked straight to the concierge desk for a booking for two massages!! We were lucky to have found a last minute appointment for two the next morning!!! We booked for an hour massage each. So we're looking forward to the relaxation massage. A nice relaxed hour of pure bliss. So we're in separate rooms. I am told to put my things this little corner table. Get under the warm covers and relax. No problem!! There's a light knock on the door and I say come in!!! My masseuse comes in and talks very softly. As I am getting my massage, I can tell he found my stress knots. He works his magic. Gently stretching the knot and a little pressure. At first, in my thoughts, I thought that wouldn't work. He was gentle, yet all the knots disappeared. Most others would apply more pressure to work. By the end of the hour, I was one relaxed noodle!!! When you come, you'll need to show up about 10 to 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork!! A little questionnaire about yourself like everyone else needs. The little waiting spot is very quaint. They offer hot tea or water while you wait. I would come back again when in town.

Just had one of the first massages at the soft open of the Exquisite Hideaway located inside the Bayfront Marriott. The place is super cute has a very earthy but tastefully exquisite vibe. They offer custom teas and scents and the high end tables are incredibly comfy. My therapist was Olivia and I can't speak highly enough. Being a massage therapist myself I am pretty critical. Olivia has warm, firm, trustworthy and intuitive hands. Her rhythm is trans inducing and yet somehow invigorating at the same time. I left feeling like I could skip home. Thanks Hideaway, I will be back.

The staff is where this place shines. Every single person we interacted with was kind, genuine, and attentive in a way that felt personal rather than scripted. The relaxation room set a great tone with complimentary tea and a lovely granola offering. Our therapists paid close attention to our needs throughout the 60 minutes, and the massage itself was exactly what an anniversary afternoon should be. To top it off, they surprised us with glasses of prosecco as we said our goodbyes. My only critique here was the locker room. Compared to other luxury spa experiences, the locker area felt noticeably small including the lockers themselves. The amenity offerings were quite basic -- shampoo, conditioner, body wash, a nail kit, and spray deodorant. Missing were the details that elevate a spa stay: shave kits, body lotion, face/hair products and toothbrush/toothpaste. For a property at this level, these extras matter. Overall, a wonderful anniversary experience and a solid 3.5/4 out of 5 from us. With a few upgrades this could easily be one of San Diego's best spa destinations.

I believed the new owners were using the extra funds to upgrade the spa, buy new equipment and pay employees better, at least according to their emails. Sadly, there's been a rapid decline in the business. The spa now looks dingy and neglected, and there's a foul odor throughout. The quality of facial and massage services dropped so much due to the constant turnover that I had to stop coming altogether. I had been seeing Chelsea Bowman and the master facialist Ami Sheneman for years. Both left, and no one contacted me to let me know I wouldn't be seeing them for my next appointment. I only found out when I showed up and discovered I'd be seeing someone else. The new girl Kendall, bless her heart--she tried her best, but it just wasn't the same. On top of it when I asked the girls at the desk where Chelsea and Ami went, each time they looked scared and uncomfortable answering. For anyone wondering where Ami went: I found her! She's now at Pier to Point down the street at the other end of Voltaire. I've already been there and signed up for multiple memberships. I highly recommend you do the same. It's such a shame about this spa since it's been part of the community for so long. Edit in response to the owner's comment: Thank you for your response. I want to clarify that my review was written in good faith based solely on my personal experience as a long-time client of your spa. I did not create my account with any intention of coordinating negative reviews or promoting a competitor. I have never had a Yelp account prior to this, which is why it is new. I've also never left a Google review prior to this either. My intention was to share my honest disappointment about the recent changes and lack of transparency when my preferred practitioners left, which significantly impacted my experience. I understand privacy policies, but as a loyal client, I felt it would have been more considerate to inform me prior to my appointment that my practitioners would no longer be there, enabling me to make the decision if I wanted to see someone new or not. This would have allowed me to cancel, so I could continue my services with the professionals I had established trust with. I stand by my original review and hope future communication with clients will be handled with greater openness and respect. Thank you.

She massaged me from head to toe and her hands are magical. I told her my problem areas and she really honed in on them with just the right amount of pressure. Honestly, the combo of the comfy warm bed and Gwen made me nod off for a while, it was so relaxing. I definitely recommend giving this place a try. The massages and other services are quite pricey, but they offer an affordable monthly membership which offers a free service monthly!

But when a special occasion arose with a group of girlfriends, I resigned myself and just handed over my credit card. Kyoko, the main spa attendant, greeted us warmly and showed us around. She was a friendly and helpful presence throughout our visit. I got the 60 minute relaxation massage, and it was worth every penny. My masseuse, Jasmine, was excellent, from the moment she greeted me to when the message was over and she bid me farewell with a tiny cup of their fresh-squeezed orange elixir and a warm towel. Speaking of towels, so many towels everywhere--all cloth. Nary a paper towel to be seen, even in the bathrooms. Their robes were fluffy and luxurious, and the slide sandals were nice quality, no cheap flip flops here. On our visit there weren't that many other guests (we did get there later in the day), so it felt very tranquil and private. We availed ourselves to the steam room, sauna, and whirlpool before and after our treatments, and hung out in the well-appointed ladies lounge with some of the available snacks: almonds, dried apricots, and housemate oat bars that were really yummy. It was a rare treat for me and I enjoyed every minute! Don't forget to get your valet parking validated before you go.

I have visited the Fairmont Grand Del Mar spa 6-7 times and have generally had positive…read moreexperiences, but my most recent visit was so disappointing that I feel it is necessary to share my experience. While I appreciate the management's attempt to rectify some issues, the current quality simply does not match the premium price point. My friend and I booked our treatments at specific times online to maximize our time together, only to be told days later that the times were unavailable. In trying to resolve this, I discovered the spa had also changed my friend's appointments without notifying her. It took a 45-minute phone call and multiple follow-ups before a director finally stepped in to provide a day pass and an acoustic vibration meditation session to make amends. While I was grateful for the gesture, the meditation beds were unfortunately quite uncomfortable and didn't live up to the "state-of-the-art" description. For a spa that charges $200+ just for facility access, the upkeep was surprisingly poor. There were used towels strewn about the common areas, overflowing trash in the bathrooms, and when trying to locate an unused locker, myself and the staff member assisting me had to open several before finding a robe. The steam room was barely functioning with minimal to no steam produced. A large group of women in the solarium was incredibly loud (screaming and laughing) for a long period. While I'm glad they were enjoying themselves, multiple staff members walked by and never once stepped in to maintain the quiet, relaxing environment guests expect. While not part of the spa itself, the poolside service was notably slow; my friend waited an hour for her food and had to rush through it before her treatment. We were served without utensils and had to wait several more minutes for a server to return. I have long considered this one of the top two spas in San Diego, but after this experience, the value is no longer there. Management's effort to make it right was appreciated, but a luxury spa shouldn't require that much effort from the guest just to have a basic, clean, and coordinated experience. I'll be enjoying the other local luxury spa options moving forward.
