Booked a couples massage package and we enjoyed every bit of it. The soak before the massage, full body massage, and champagne afterwards was great! The amenities for at least the ladies side was very nice. They have cotton pads, mouthwash, disposable razors, and hair dryers. If only they had disposable combs as well that would've been perfect. Unfortunately we had to make dinner reservations so we didn't get to stay as long for the steam room or pool but the massage package itself was absolutely perfect. Both masseuses focused on our requested areas and did a phenomenal job making us feel relaxed. However I will say that it was VERY expensive. It was almost 700 for the package (includes gratuity). We typically don't go past 500 for our massage endeavors so we broke the bank on this one a bit.. but we had a nice time doing so. read more

She gave me a great facial and was super personable which allowed me to relax throughout the massage portions even though I'm ticklish. She used quality products and a great arm and hand massage. I booked a Balinese massage. The massage was great, her hands were a good size and pressure was perfect. I would give the massage 5 stars. She didn't provide me her name but the lady I had carried on a good conversation pausing every now and then so that I can relax in quietude. The bed was warm but the temperature of the room was cold and I was freezing. It was difficult for me to focus and relax. I didn't get a tour of the place so I wandered like Alice to figure out where stuff was situated. The locker was a puzzle for me to figure out but I eventually solved it. The women's area is pretty tight. I came on a not so busy time but I can see how crowded it can get with just a few people in there. The sauna was not as strong as I liked. I prefer steam everywhere where you almost can't see and the temp wasn't as hot as I would like it. Parking was a hassle because you can't park in their lot unless you were a guest staying in their hotel. I was driving around in circles tryna find a parking spot on the side streets. Come early so you have time to park your car. It's in Shelter Island area which means the place can get really busy especially on a weekend. I wouldn't come here for the spa again but the hotel ambience was nice and the pool looked like a party. read more

No matter where I am, when I'm on vacation, I try to find a spa. Sometimes this finds me in a secluded gem and I think " wow, the locals here are so lucky " and other times I find a flop and think " wow I'm glad this isn't my hometown spa. " Surprisingly enough, this spa is smack dab in the middle. I made a reservation for a girls day with my mom here. I decided to do a massage and soak and my mom decided to do a mani-pedi. I think we purchased our passes on Groupon or travel zoo and our package included a glass of champagne and the use of the facilities. We arrived early because we wanted to have some snacks at the hotel restaurant before our spa. We had a lovely time upstairs and then made our way to the spa for our treatments. My mom went up the stairs in the spa to the nail area and I went down the stairs to the rest of the spa. My massage therapist unfortunately talked the whole time, even though I tried to give her some subtle hints that I wasn't really interested in talking. She told me a lot of her life story and complaints about how things were going in her personal life and I tried to zone out and just focus on the massage but it was too distracting. After my massage I had a soak in the soaking tub which was in the massage room. Unfortunately it was very difficult for me to enjoy that as well because my body was so oily, I kept slipping in the tub and I couldn't keep myself steady. I ended up getting out and was only in the tub for maybe 5 or 10 minutes before I gave up and metaphorically threw in the towel. The champagne at the end of the spa treatments was fine but nothing exciting. My mom however had a much better experience with her mani-pedi and the color that her nail technician picked was a gorgeous raspberry color that she never would have chosen herself. They also had a great area in the waiting zone with lots of take-home spa products which my mom bought a few of. Overall, a great nail experience for my mom, and a less than desirable spa/massage experience for me, leaves this spa at of solid two or three out of five stars. I decided to leave it at a three star instead of a two because of how clean the facilities were, which I feel is a pretty important distinction compared to other two star spas to which I've been. Maybe I met them on a bad day? If I were in the area again I would probably give them another shot because the location is so excellent and the ambiance is otherwise pretty outstanding. read more

We were able to change into a very comfortable robe and slippers before enjoying our champagne in the zen den room. Our therapists came to get us from there. We both agree that our deep tissue massages were amazing. Unfortunately, he doesn't remember his therapist's name, but my therapist was Sarai. We will definitely be back. read more

Was looking for a spa I hadn't tried in San Diego to meet up with a friend and found SpaTerre recommended through Conde Nast Traveler. My friend made our reservations, which were a bit challenging since we made them last minute. Located at the Kona Kai Resort & Spa on Shelter Island. I arrived on time for my Signature SpaTerre Day. 125 minutes for $274, and you receive: -welcome champagne (they forgot to give me my champagne) -detox bath 25 minutes -deep tissue massage 50 minutes -signature spaterre facial 50 minutes We arrived on time and were led to the lockers and provided directions. The waiting area is small as you wait for your services. Only a few chairs and water, tea, and a bit of granola (the jar was almost empty). My treatments were fantastic. I would say massage and facial were 5 stars. I also enjoyed the detox bath with rose petals for 25 minutes. The rooms for treatment were of average size; however, the waiting areas and steam room were quite small. Also, I forgot to remind them about my champagne after my friend made mention. Used to like this spa a lot until my most recent visit on august 1 which included the fitness room being closed due to painting (not disclosed although a booked a few days prior) and the door to the fitness center, also leading to the locker rooms, being propped for the workers allowing free access to the locker rooms to anyone. The fitness front desk was left unattended as well resulting in a group of middle school girls trashing the locker rooms (while shaving their arms and faces in the locker room mirror and leaving razors, caps, q-tips, and water everywhere after running all throughout the locker room dripping wet and taking a group shower discussing things o won't post here). Then 3 unattended 6 year old girls went in to the steam room right afterward causing several patrons concern for their safety, but again no one was at the fitness desk to report to. This happened at about 4pm and although the spa closes at 5, the door to the spa leading to the front desk was also locked so we could not get assistance there either. Why didn't we have a key to get back in to the spa area? Because when we arrived, we were told be the spa reception staff that the line was too long at the front desk for them to get us a key but we could come back later (we arrived a little after 10am and the spa opens at 9am). Paid about $400 got two 50- minute massages and left wet without getting ready because the locker room was so destroyed and we were locked out of everything. read more

Shelter Island. Hidden gem of San Diego. I had a Groupon for a 80 min massage and day pass to the pool. The spa was beautiful, my massage was amazing and the pool area is super relaxing. I would highly recommend. Tips: two pools one with children one without. Parking is expensive at resort. Spa validates but depending on the time of day there is some street parking. At 8am I had no issues and my treatment was scheduled for 9 am so I just walked the marina a little before and relaxed. read more

I spend my birthday here to get pampered and I was very disappointed with a lot of things. PROS: 1.Reservation was easy and got the day of my birthday! When I made a reservation I told the lady that I saw the SpaTerre exclusive offer online/package. She told me what it details and I went ahead and book it. 2. Facial was very relaxing that I fell asleep. She walk me through the process as it was my first time getting a facial. when I got to the hotel that's when my disappointment started CONS: 1. The champagne that you get is in this plastic cup, looks really cheap and tasted like cheap drink too 2. When I got to the massage area, she ask me what part of my body I need the most massage/concentrated on, told her my legs bcoz I'm a runner. She started on my back and I ask her to do it deeper/harder. She said I didn't paid for deep tissue massage. Which I was surprise because the website clearly indicate that it's a deep tissue massage for the package. I ignore it bcoz I wanted to just relax 3. She barely spend the time on my legs. As when I can feel that she's started to get some knots out or my legs starting to feel better, she would stop and move on to the other side 4. Overall this massage was not worth the $145 I was charge for 5. When I got done, I went to the front desk to pay and I did not notice it until I got home that they charge me 22% gratuity base on the original price of the package. I think that's unfair. I fully understand that I have to pay 22% on top of the cost of the spa package but why am I paying extra. I feel that was unfair and something they should fix I attach the website pic of the SpaTerre package deal they have online and they clearly did not follow through of what entails. First, I'd like to mention that this review is separate of my experience and review at Kona Kai resort. Before we went on our vacation, I purchased massages for my husband and I on Groupon for Spa Terre. We were staying at Kona Kai and I figured it would be nice to get a couples massage while we were there. I called them a few days in advance since an appointment is required and was told that there was only one massage available on the day I wanted. I had initially called on Wednesday inquiring about an appointment for the upcoming Monday and was directed to voicemail. I left a message and attempted to call back about 30 minutes later where I was greeted with another voicemail. Nobody ever called me back until I had a chance to call them again Friday in the early afternoon. I told the lady of our plans and the limited schedule we had to get our massages as Groupon stated that we could not use the massage package on the weekends and we were going to be there Saturday-Tuesday morning. The lady I spoke to, Alexis was extremely nice and did her best with my complaints about my limited schedule and wanting to get a massage with my husband because..seriously..what's the point of getting a massage on vacation on your own? I honestly feel that if anybody had bothered to return my call, that I would've gotten the appointment I wanted which was Monday morning. Because the only available appointments for a couples massage was on Sunday morning or Tuesday afternoon (after we would've checked out and left), the manager waived the Groupon weekend fee after my complaint, however she failed to mention that there was a $10/person fee to use the couples room. The spa treatment itself was decent and the ladies that provided the massage were professional and friendly. Overall, it was not worth the trouble i was put through to just save $20. read more

DON'T USE THE SPA!!!!!!!!!! TOTAL DISASTER!!!! The spa is an absolute joke. Scheduled a weekend getaway with my wife at the Kona Kai resort. I called the week we were arriving and scheduled a couples massage with a female for me and a male for my wife, we arrived 15 mins early, changed and got into our robes. All the sudden, two males show up to try and take us back seperately... not a couples massage and two guys! Sorry but I've been to dozens of spas and NEVER had a male try to massage me. I declined. They said there is no females on staff and so in exchange for the trouble, I didn't need to pay for just mine... I didn't even get a massage, so why would I need to pay for mine!!??! I did paid $200 for my wife to get a 50 minute massage, while our couples massage was ruined and our nice relaxing getaway down the drain. Don't use this place!!! Terrible customer service! My husband surprised me with a package, me being a nosy wife wanted the itemized receipt. So gad i did!! its not the price or the automated gratuity that was bad, it was the service I got for the price. I've never had a massage where the masseuse finds a knot and just ignores them. I would pay maybe $40 for the massage i got, not $225! The package came with access to the pools, but there was no where for me to change so I didnt get to take advantage of that. Prenatal massage - not a real one with a cut out for your belly but that's fine. While it was a nice massage, it wasn't anything special for the price. My masseuse also was very light handed. I actually prefer light massages but even it was too light for me and she never asked me if the pressure was OK. The massage was whatever. Honestly, massage envy could've done an equally decent job. Locker room amenities - terrible! My gym has better lockers. First, they didn't even offer me a robe or slippers, I had to request it. Like are you serious? Then when I went in the locker room, it was so incredibly disappointing. It was small, the ceiling was low so it felt so claustrophobic with other people around. The shower, oh dear. My shower at home is 10x better. Plastic, low end shower curtains. Low end shower products. Water wasn't hot enough. Shower pressure was whatever. And what was never told to me was that day the steam room was closed for maintenance so it was not operational. Yea, I think that's extremely important to tell patrons who are there to enjoy all the amenities, not just a massage and then leave. Then I noticed the mist they offer for the steam room was just in some plastic spray bottle you can get at 99c store. So low budget for a supposedly "nice" spa. The blow dryer, omg, it was the smallest crappiest plug in blow dryer (again something you can get at the dollar store). I have thin straight hair and there's no way this thing could ever dry my hair. It was pathetic and sad. Don't expect them to have hair ties, high end products, toothbrush, face masks or any other fun amenities you would find in a high end spa locker room. The co-ed relaxing room or whatever they want to call it - small AF!!! Literally smaller than my laundry room. Again so claustrophobic and so awkward if there's more than 3 people in there. They had tea but no one attended to the hot water from a handheld thermo that it was empty when I wanted hot water for my tea. They had this hand massage machine in there. Didn't work at all. What the heck? Does anything freaking work here?! I didn't end up using their pool or private beach that day. It looked ok. I would never go back here or recommend this place. I paid similar prices at L'Auberge in La Jolla and it is 10x better there! Lastly, though this is more service of the hotel, I got my car valet. I had a BMW clicker on it but wasn't driving that car that day. They took forever trying to use the clicker to find my car instead of knowing what space they parked my car in so of course no car responded to the clicker bc they just assumed that's what I was driving bc it was on the Keychain. No organization. Then when he couldn't find it, I said forget it. I'll just go find my own car bc I really had to go. He asked me if I was sure that's what I wanted to do. And while I replied "yea it's fine," bc I was in a rush, he then said,"it's somewhere in these two rows " and handed me the keys. Never offered to look with me. Did I mention I was visibly 8 months pregnant at this time? Walking aimlessly around the parking lot on a hot day in July. So that swollen feet I went to get massaged out, yea...counter productive after retrieving my car. I did hear him say earlier he was quitting so mb he just didn't give a rat's ass anymore. SMH. I have received several massages over the years, and I would rate Spa Terre masseuse Dan a 10/10. I had the pleasure of getting the hot sand table, and I melted away as if on the white sands of Bora Bora. I planned an event with Keegan, and she was so sweet and assisted me throughout the day to make sure the team was feeling pampered A+ to Keegan.. My team also received a facial and we all loved Liza! The spa itself is ok amenities wise but it is FREEZING. They warn you upon arrival it's cold because it shares ac with fitness center but it's really unbearable. I had to get dressed in the steam room to avoid shivering. It's significant enough that I would not return to this spa because of temperature alone. Notable that this was the consensus among the 4 other women freezing in there. And heads up they charge $25 to remove shellac from 4 nails. Of course they don't tell you about that charge until check out. Most places charge $5-10 for removal if they charge at all. So Annoying. And the final show of poor service here was the bartender at the pool asked me to ask strangers to put their byob champagne away before he would make my drink. Wtf?! When I said I wasn't comfortable reprimanding strangers he acted very put out and stormed over to do it himself. Later at the pool a lady came by checking room keys to verify guests. Again wtf?! This place really left me with an icky feeling. It might look it from the outside but this is definitely not a resort level property. They treat their customers like employees or trespassers and with so many good choices in sd I don't think I would ever recommend this place to anyone. read more

I had the worst spa experience here. First, the locker room was small and dirty. There was an used towel on the floor in front of a shower. There were four sinks and some of them had hair and they were not clean. The paper towels were out and the room lacked amenities such as shower caps or clean combs like other SPAs would have. There was a sterilization bin for shared combs with blue liquid in it but not sure how long ago it was changed since the sterilization liquid looked dirty itself. When I came back from massage, there were only two fresh towels in the locker room. But the worse thing was the masseuse. It was the WORST massage I ever had. It was not like the female masseuse was massaging me too strong or too weak. She was just rubbing my skin in very fast motions, and she was very noisy and rough. I normally get very relaxed and fall asleep during massage but with this masseuse just rubbing my skin all over my body aimlessly, it was not a good massage at all. I hated it so much and could not wait to get over. I almost said "stop. I'm done." and walk out. She kept rubbing my skin in very rough and quick motions and all of the sudden, she said "you are done." I did not feel good or relaxed AT ALL for the entire 50 min. My masseuse also did not spend any time on my back, which was my main problem area (I informed her prior to my recent massage). The resort itself is beautiful with beautiful amenities!
