My first impressions of the spa were that it was a bit outdated and could use some renovations and modernization. The check-in / waiting areas included a random chair for hair service and a small area for pedicures. The lady at the desk was friendly and showed me to the locker room. The locker room was small, but had sauna, showers, and some toiletry type items that you would expect in a spa. I was provided a robe and while it was clean, I instantly thought this looks super old and well used. I sat in the relaxation room, that more felt like a Dr waiting room other than the relaxing music and fresh fruit available. My massage therapist was very friendly and asked me questions regarding injuries, allergies, focus areas, and pressure prior to starting. I had the 50 min drift full body massage and I felt it was just ok. I've tried out quite a few spas in the area and I've had better experiences elsewhere. I also thought it was very pricey for a 50 min massage ($204 with gratuity already included) when I've had better massages in the area at the normal 60 min time for less money. I did enjoy the small jacuzzi after my massage and I was lucky enough that I was the only one there because the area is quite small. The grounds are very pretty, but overall there are other resort spas I would recommend instead.

I believed the new owners were using the extra funds to upgrade the spa, buy new equipment and pay employees better, at least according to their emails. Sadly, there's been a rapid decline in the business. The spa now looks dingy and neglected, and there's a foul odor throughout. The quality of facial and massage services dropped so much due to the constant turnover that I had to stop coming altogether. I had been seeing Chelsea Bowman and the master facialist Ami Sheneman for years. Both left, and no one contacted me to let me know I wouldn't be seeing them for my next appointment. I only found out when I showed up and discovered I'd be seeing someone else. The new girl Kendall, bless her heart--she tried her best, but it just wasn't the same. On top of it when I asked the girls at the desk where Chelsea and Ami went, each time they looked scared and uncomfortable answering. For anyone wondering where Ami went: I found her! She's now at Pier to Point down the street at the other end of Voltaire. I've already been there and signed up for multiple memberships. I highly recommend you do the same. It's such a shame about this spa since it's been part of the community for so long. Edit in response to the owner's comment: Thank you for your response. I want to clarify that my review was written in good faith based solely on my personal experience as a long-time client of your spa. I did not create my account with any intention of coordinating negative reviews or promoting a competitor. I have never had a Yelp account prior to this, which is why it is new. I've also never left a Google review prior to this either. My intention was to share my honest disappointment about the recent changes and lack of transparency when my preferred practitioners left, which significantly impacted my experience. I understand privacy policies, but as a loyal client, I felt it would have been more considerate to inform me prior to my appointment that my practitioners would no longer be there, enabling me to make the decision if I wanted to see someone new or not. This would have allowed me to cancel, so I could continue my services with the professionals I had established trust with. I stand by my original review and hope future communication with clients will be handled with greater openness and respect. Thank you.

She massaged me from head to toe and her hands are magical. I told her my problem areas and she really honed in on them with just the right amount of pressure. Honestly, the combo of the comfy warm bed and Gwen made me nod off for a while, it was so relaxing. I definitely recommend giving this place a try. Hiding the review because he said they would implement a procedural approach to make sure this doesn't happen to others. He also offered us a free couples massage at another time. It turns out the massage therapists are independent contractors who only see their schedule unless they look at the others. So there wasn't something specific on a general schedule that showed the room was already booked. Meaning it was easy for something like this to happen. They were going to add a step that the massage therapists need to check the upcoming schedule for the couples room before using it. The couple that wound up in there had booked two separate rooms online (because you have to call to book the couples room) then asked to move it to the couples room when they showed up 30 min before we were scheduled. I hope they follow through on their plan to add a process fix. No massages for us! Edit: It gets worse! When they called me to apologize at first the guy was saying it wasn't their fault because the location to a first come first served basis. It absolutely is your fault (as a company if you allow your only couples room to be double booked!) Turns out that a couple booked massaged online for 30min before us. However you can't book the couples room. So when they showed up they asked for the couples room and were given it despite the fact that we had it booked starting at 1pm. Not cool! I literally called instead of booking online since you can't book the couples room online. (Doing the massage another day is easier said than done for a variety of reasons.) Just showed up for our couples massage appointment to find out that the couples room was already being used. I was really looking forward to our day date while kids are out of town so I'm bummed. The woman helping us said she would talk to the manager about waiving our same day cancellation fee since we didn't want to get two separate massages. Yeah, not paying that! She also mentioned that they do double book rooms when I asked what happened. So, this can't be an uncommon event. Amazed by all the great reviews if this is how they do business! The woman who helped us was quite polite Andi don't have any issue with her. Also the place looked nice on the inside. But what a bad approach to booking!

For the price and going in for a problem area, fantastic!…read more To preface, I'm someone that's very low maintenance/simple. If you are more high maintenance and want all the extras and more expensive spa features this may not be the place for you, but giving that as a warning now so someone with that type of lifestyle doesn't go in thinking it's something it's not. I really feel like I have to leave a review because some of the negative reviews almost discouraged me from going here, but I am SO glad I did. About 2 weeks ago I strained a muscle in my left upper back and another just deep to my L shoulder blade. I have background in PT and work in healthcare so I tried to resolve it myself with no avail. In the field I work in, I am axial loading A LOT, carrying heavy bags, gear, and equipment. This week I told myself I NEEDED to get a massage. I've gotten several over the years as someone with Thoracic (70deg) and lumbar (50deg) severe scoliosis. I got a 90min full body massage today for $90. I had Lucy and she was GREAT! I showed her the areas I was having tightness and she worked that out and more in the first 30 minutes. I was skeptical at first because the first 30 mins of the massage were dry with no lotion, but I think that was intentional to work out the knots that I had throughout my back. For the next 30 mins, she used lotion and primarily continued on my whole back, neck, and upper glute area. Last 30 minutes she covered my limbs front/back and chest area. I am a 5'2, 160 lbs, solid, athletic build female. My masseuse was probably no more than 120lbs but you wouldn't have known it. She used leverage to really get into the areas I had problems with and I left as a satisfied customer feeling much looser in my upper back. Definitely will be back and recommend! Things to consider: *For the price, you're not getting a fancy place. For some the sheet may be too small/not enough coverage. If that's something that is a concern for you I would recommend bringing a sheet of your own along for extra draping and/or asking for an additional sheet. It didn't bother me, but I saw that was a complaint below. *Walls and doors are thin. If you're going there for a muted experience where you only hear the music in the background, not a place for you. (I'm super easy and low maintenance so that wasn't bothersome for me, but I could see how that might bother someone else.) *They do not do an intake/waiver form like other fancier places do. If that's something that will bother you, I think that's a good thing to inform as well. They have an eastern medicine approach (not bothersome to me but maybe to others)

It is not a Burke's, woodhouse Day Spa or a hotel Spa. I've been there and prefer this place if you want a very good deep tissue massage. The room is not fancy, but it is clean and all the rooms have doors. I had Tina today and she did such a good job. I regularly get massages once a month. I am sad I don't live close by. She knew that my shoulders were knotted and spent a lot of time getting all the knots out. She knows her anatomy and often checked in to see if I was doing okay. She offered some herbal Chinese medicine, I think it is similar to biofreeze. I took the chance and glad I tried it. I feel like a new person.
