Holy moly are they on a roll! How wonderful to see a new business become profitable in just four months! Wonder how and why?
Wife and I went to dinner on Friday night. Finally got to try dinner and it exceeded out expectations. Although the menu is light on dinner entrees, they were all dinner-appropriate v. better for lunch. I really like their menu overall and there are some unique items, like tempura fired veggies that are different than what one would find at every other restaurant, like jalapeno poppers and fried mozzarella sticks.
They always have two soups available, set up in warmers right inside the front door. Selections always are changing and the soups are home made. Super on those winter nights like we have in Montana for many months.
I had the country pork ribs, wife the sirloin steak. Both portions where huge and generous. I took most of mine home for another meal.
Ribs were not fatty and their BBQ sauce was spicy in a nice way. I am not a BBQ sauce fan, so asked to waitress to lighten it. She did, as I did not receive regular the side bowl of sauce and the ribs were just lightly coated. A good sign that she listened to my preference and asked the kitchen to meet it...which they did.
Wife's sirloin was very good. It was tender and flavorful and the bowl, not just scoop, of potato salad was excellent: creamy, eggy and delicious.
It was crowded and the four bartenders were hopping. No time for measured shots which for them is not an issue as "generous pours" are their standard.
It was Friday night, so there was a band with dancing, so the evening was really jovial.
So, friendly responsive staff, owners who are doing all they can to satisfy customers, generous bartenders, straight-forward and interesting menu, generous portions and good food seem to be the no-brainer recipe to success.
The Hideout, with it's large outdoor deck overlooking the Bitterroot River and the roaming deer will not be hiding much come the tourist season from May - August. They will, to their delight, get to experience the real Montana of cowboys and cowgirls drinking and eating well while having a great time in great company.
We have a winner here and my guess is that I will be five-starring it sooner rather than later. read more
