We have been wanting to try this brewery for a while, and finally made it in...what a great experience! Bri took great care of us, she was very knowledgeable and friendly. Enjoyed our brews and the sangria cider! And then, the food... We started with the Brewhouse Pretzel...10/10! Hot, chewy, huge and perfectly salted...delicious honey mustard and cheese for dipping. I tried the Spiced Lamb Burger, very unique and tasty, and the spiral fries were delicious! Our table also enjoyed Mahi Mahi Tacos and the Southern Chicken and Biscuit sandwich, both very good. The cheesecake with Carmel sauce...wow. The slice was huge, with super creamy texture, just excellent. Also for dessert, I had a seasonal cocktail "All Too Welll", like pumpkin pie in a martini glass! Mom also enjoyed her Carmel Apple Cauldron. Looking forward to going back, this will definitely make our list of favorite spots when we are up north ! read more

Highway Brewing is our go to stop for a meal on our way up north or coming home. This place is a gem. Elevated bar food, every thing is homemade from scratch. You wouldn't expect to find amazing salmon or risotto at a brewery but you will here. We have always enjoyed everything we have eaten here. The Hobo City (stout) and Bituminous(dark) were very good as was the cranberry sour. Hubby liked the IPAs and Angry Bride (Amber Ale). No bad choices really. I went here with a group of friends on a Sunday afternoon for a beer flight and dinner. We were seated promptly without reservations. My appetizer was the sweet heat rounders. Bacon covered sausages. Unfortunately they were overcooked and crispy but I ate them anyways since I was starving and had not eaten all day. My entree was a medium done rodeo burger with fries that was excellent. I also enjoyed the breweries beers on my flight even though several I would have liked to try were not available. A bit pricey. Booth, flat top, bar and patio seating. Friendly but forgetful service. I'm shocked that I haven't reviewed HBC yet! We've been dining and drinking here for years while up at the cottage. Have never had a bad meal and service is always above and beyond. Today on their special board, they had duck wontons, which I absolutely had to try... I also highly recommend the duck nachos. They are so incredible! My husband and I also shared a side of fries and the Mac & cheese with crispy chicken. Now going through my pictures, I'm a little disappointed I did not order the chef salad again. Mary was our server this time and she's fantastic! Our only complaint ... why can't we order a drink at the bar while we wait for our table?? Every time we have to wait, we are told if we order a drink at the bar, they will take our names off the wait list. It's baffling. We said we'd pay immediately and not run a tab ... still no. Highway Brewing Company in West Branch has some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced -- rude, inattentive, and unprofessional from start to finish. The food didn't make up for it either; bland, overpriced, and far from fresh. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

Gluten free and dairy light eater. Busy on a Friday afternoon. Sat outside, Nice weather. I originally asked for a 1907 burger with a gf bun. But I had to ask if their fries were gf. She didn't know but it wasn't. The burger is listed as gluten free. Our server was helpful but it isn't listed correctly on the menu. I ended up with the Trio of tacos. Barbacoa and carnitas were good. Chicken Tinga wasn't my favorite but it wasn't bad. Salsa is very mild and had a tomato flavor. My friend had the quinoa burger. It was okay. She is vegetarian and other than salads there wasn't a lot of options. Her daughter had the pretzel. That was the hit of the table. Mother and daughter loved it. Overall the food was good, more mild flavors. read more

Just OK. Our first time here and was a bit underwhelmed with the staff. Didn't really feel welcomed. Friendly patrons at the bar. We sat at the bar and the young lady that took our order had the personality of a door knob. She seemed to be the "Bartender", so maybe she didn't like doing food orders, I don't know. What I do know is that we thought about walking across the street to G's Pizza. This place has a wide selection of craft beer and a somewhat limited but typical menu for craft brewerys. We both had the three tacos and they were - just OK. The Barbacoa was dry, The second one was bland, and the chicken taco was very good. Stopped in for a quick lunch on our way back south to Metro Detroit. There was plenty of seating and a great menu - lots of expected brewery food but dolled up a bit! I had the grilled Turkey bistro sandwich and I could not get enough of it. The bacon jam, garlic aioli, and Parmesan crusted bread really took this sandwich to the next level. I paired it with the Highway 55 Wheat Ale which was very refreshing - I wish it had a stronger orange flavor. The only thing I could wish for from this place is homemade ranch! read more

We moved up here a year ago from Colorado. We love it here but have missed really good food and a nice atmosphere. I guess we have gotten used to certain things in Colorado and have struggled to find places to eat that don't have those fluorescent ceiling panel lights and banquet table chairs. When you spend a lot of money to go out to eat, atmosphere is important.The food is also important and most food around here is just ok but basic. Food that I could easily cook at home. All that being said, we were so pleasantly surprised on both points when we ate here the other day. The place looks like it was decorated in this century and we loved the rustic modern vibe. We had the spiced lamb burger and the smothered chicken sandwich. Both came with what they call spiral fries but these aren't like anything you have had before. They were chunky and cooked to perfection. we didn't even use ketchup because we didn't want to ruin the flavor of the fries. The buns used were a beautiful and tasty bakery variety and the bottom was even grilled so it has the slightest crisp when you bit into it and the onions were grilled or sautéed or something. These tiny details really add up to elevate the eating experience and are truly noticeable! The server was attentive but not intrusive, friendly but not over the top. We didn't have any bar drinks but as we left the gentleman behind the bar thanked us for coming in. We will for sure be back! read more

Highway uses fresh ingredients as compared to the frozen chicken & pre-made frozen beef patties being served close by. The atmosphere is warm, open and clean- great energy as well. Love the building, outside and inside so cool my kind of place. Everyone loves their food not one complaint. The appetizer was also good. Beer cheese is my favorite that I've tried and I've had a lot. They didn't over do it with the beer, where others are over saturated with beer taste. Also loved the taste of the honey mustard. Loved the fries, never had them cut this way they were very much too my liking, thick and curly. The staff were all good from what I could see, all hustling back and forth great workers. Who ever owns this place you have done a great job of hiring and training your people. For such a small town you are lucky to have a gem like this. Till next time we come back this way read more

I have eaten here twice, my husband once and it has been consistent. Can get crowded. A bit trendier than many places in this area. The first time I had a bacon burger which was delicious. They have unique fries that are a cross between wedges and curly fries. Good fresh brewed iced tea. This time I had Mac and cheese that had bacon, green onions and a panko topping. Delicious and filling. My husband had a turkey sandwich with a Parmesan Texas toast, garlic aioli, and melted cheese. He said it was one of the best sandwiches he has ever had. He had one of their beers also. We split a pretzel before and while the cheese sauce was good it was nothing special but the mustard was unique and awesome. Good service, average prices. read more

Well !! This was absolutely worth going to : My boyfriend and I shared the hushpuppies which you can find the description in my photos, menu is posted. Personally, I thought it was a fantastic choice that paired well with his blueberry lemonade beer. Then we shared the Spiced Lamb burger "cooked medium" ( perfect temp) with their spiral fries. The entire town of West Branch seems to have spiffed up over the last ten or so years since I ventured farther into it than the Tim Horton's by I-75. So naturally, it has a brewpub now, which I'd say is a good addition, even if it isn't yet ready to seize a spot on the first tier of Michigan breweries. I rolled in around noon on a Sunday. The place was nearly deserted, though customers were trickling in around the time I left. It being fall, a pumpkin ale was offered, and I ordered a small draft of that and one of the Chief Ogemaw IPA. The first probably had the least pumpkin flavor of any pumpkin ale I've tried. It's really an amber ale with barely noticeable spice notes. Not bad as a simple amber, though. The IPA had a nice hop flavor, but was a little weak in body. Not so weak as to stop me from ordering a pint before I left. For lunch I ordered a taco combo platter, one beef, one pork, one chicken in roughly the style of Mexican street tacos, though the wraps weren't grilled as I'd expect at a food truck or taqueria serving them. The meat didn't have a lot of flavor--they all were a little hot with some mild pepper flavors. Nothing really unpleasant about them, but nothing impressive either I did really like the cilantro sauce that came on the side. I will return to try more of their beers--I always like to see how new breweries are progressing. And there actually are a few menu items I'm curious about (locally raised lambburger for starters), so will give them another chance with the food. read more

This was a fantastic stop on our way up north. We were excited to finally make it to Highway Brewing. We tried to stop here on our way to TC a few weeks earlier, but the brewery was closed. I have to say that this brewery is on my list of top 10 in the state. Why, you might wonder? It's everything from the beer, food, brew house and service. The overall layout of the brew house has an industrial flare with warm wood surroundings and a unique charm. We sat at the bar and enjoyed talking to the owner and her father, who is also one of the brewers. They have fantastic beer and we really enjoyed learning about the brewery and getting the inside scoop/stories about the unique names of the beers. We left there feeling like we knew the family and that's part of the charm to me. If you happen to be in the area, stop by and give this place a try! read more

I highly recommend the fries. They are so delicious with the perfect amount of crisp. The beer menu was excellent! Sometimes at brewery's it can be a hit or a miss as to what is great on tap but that certainly wasn't the case here. I tried three different beers, including the angry bride because why not since it was fitting that we were visiting for a wedding, and I enjoyed all of them. I've dined here with the family several times. The absolute best turkey sandwich you've ever had! The staff is always great, they're very good at their jobs and always friendly and helpful. Although I usually get the turkey sandwich, I changed up my order last time and got the Salmon Risotto, it comes with cheesy risotto a drizzle of pesto oil. The issue I had was the salmon was not seasoned and it came out looking like it was boiled, not a cook mark, not a grill mark, not a pan mark in site, just an unseasoned piece of pale pink salmon. The risotto made up for the lack of seasoning because it was so salty it salted the fish too, the pesto oil was delicious, and this dish would be a favorite if they cooked the salmon better and less salt in the risotto. My daughter got the tacos, they were good, however they were three tacos, and that's it folks. No sides. It should come with rice and beans in my opinion. We always make a trip to Highway when visiting West Branch. Their beers are great. You really can't pick a bad one. This time I decided to order the lamb burger. I have eaten lamb my entire my life and appreciate a unique menu item. This burger checks all the boxes. The Grecian spin on a burger paired with truffle fries and a beer flight in Northern Michigan brings with world closer together. Great job! No photo this time.
