I love this place! I must have walked by it so many times going to the bakery across the street and never knew what a hidden gem it was! We went when the first opened on kind of a rainy Saturday. You order at the bar and then sit anywhere you would like in the brewery. Drinks were such a good price. The flights are $10 and you can try just about anything. They had a huge selection of beers, ciders, wines. A lot of interesting flavors too so i definitely recommend getting a flight! The server was super sweet and very helpful. I used to really enjoy coming here. For years we would go and do flights. It's still a good spot if you want to sit outside and bring your dog. Unfortunately they have changed to plastic cups which I am not a huge fan of. The bar tender wasn't terribly welcoming. Which is fine, maybe she was just having an off day. But I've been there before with the same bartender and she always comes off as annoyed. Again, maybe just catching her on off days. They used to have a popcorn machine which they got rid of. You can buy packaged stuff if you'd like. There is a food truck there but I haven't tried that. The beer now is okay. Nothing to write home about. It was better a few years ago. The best is still the Goodale. Overall if you like beer flights, it is worth a stop. But it is hit or miss on service. read more

Loved this brewery! We went for some well-deserved refreshment after our paddle on the Au Sable river. There were so many appealing options that I ordered a flight so that I could try four of them - the blueberry cream ale, ghost cherry wheat ale, Carmel pecan stout and the peanut butter porter - and all were excellent. The ghost cherry was the most subtle in flavor. Both the bartender and the other patrons were very friendly and conversational, and the absence of TVs in this pub-style setting was a nice change. Customer service was outstanding and overly accommodating with us visiting with our young daughters. Rolling Oak was one of our favorite breweries on this trip. The brewery is super cool and their beers AMAZING! We ended up ordering a few beers. The have a delicious peanut butter beer. My friend decided to combine two beers and OMG! He created a yummy concoction. We enjoyed talking to the beertenders and learning about the brewery. They also had a food truck serving food outside. Loved this place!! It's been hard to find dark beers and they had a great selection! Del was very enjoyable to talk to and so wasn't the bartender. I feel bad that I can't remember her name (Ashley maybe?) because she was delightful! We love visiting places that appreciate the guest experience and this was it. I make it up to Grayling quite a bit and knew I would try Rolling Oak at some point, but I made it a priority last month after trying their pale ale when Spike's Keg o Nails had it on draft. Possibly one of the best pales I've ever had. Fuller bodied than most with an assured but not aggressive hoppiness, smooth on the finish. I couldn't get to Rolling Oak on that trip, but paid them a call when I returned to Grayling earlier this week. I went in late afternoon and was the first customer of the day--the only customer for a while, actually. That gave me a chance to chat with the staff and learn more about their operation. They were friendly, very generous with samples (some offered without my asking), and obviously people with a passion for beer. I ordered a four-beer sample flight--an IPA, a hefeweizen, a red ale, and a smoked scottish ale. The IPA was a lighter version ("Holy Waters"), very drinkable, modestly hopped, with pleasant floral notes--would be a great patio beer for summer. The hef was also very good. One of the staff said she hadn't wanted to brew wheat beers but people kept asking for one so she did--good call. I didn't enjoy the red as much. Very smooth, though indistinct in flavor and a bit too sweet, I thought. The scottish ale was interesting, with pronounced smokiness and just a burr of hops with a roasty, wine-ish body. It would be ideal to sip at a campfire on a frosty autumn night. I also got a taste of the Range 13 IPA, stronger and fuller flavored than the Holy Waters--I ended up ordering a pint of it. In the course of sipping that, though, I also got a sample of their strawberry ale and could easily order one of those sometime, even though I'm not usually a fruit beer fan. The strawberry flavor was very mild--you knew you were still drinking a beer. Spike's had another one of their beers on draft this week, an imperial bourbon barrel stout. It didn't really resemble a stout, imperial or otherwise, so much as a very sweet, thick brown ale. That would be my least favored among their creations. But, no brewer pleases every customer with every beer, and I thought Rolling Oak hit the mark on nearly everything else. Easily the best of the Grayling breweries. read more

Absolutely fantastic find thanks to my fellow Yelpers. Walked in and was offered different samples according to my beer preference (Hoppy). Tried the Holy Water IPA and the 509 Wet Hop! Quickly ordered a flight including those samples and their Octoberfest. People were friendly and I sat at a communal table and met and talked with the locals. I stayed for quite a while because the beer was great and the conversation was enjoyable. This is a great find in Grayling and I will definitely make this another stop when traveling. First time here and felt like we found a goldmine of great brews. Previous reviews said don't be fooled with how outside looks and they are right. Inside is very cool! When we first walked in we were greeted by Heather who was tending bar. She was very friendly and we were immediately made to feel relaxed. She took the time to explain their brews and provided samples, which was helpful. Jason, her husband and owner of this little gem also took time to answer our questions about his beers. We stopped here in a recommendation from a random guy we met while at Short's Brewery. Newly opened, Rolling Oak has six beers on tap: Bare Ass Blonde ( a solid blonde ale) Six Twelve ( a decent pale ale) Range 13 (a decent IPA) Holy Waters (also a decent IPA) North Down Brown (a decent brown) Switch Track (a very, very good brown) We didn't inquire too much into the beer club, but we overheard it being described to someone else and it sounded pretty cool. Food is minimal with just popcorn, shelled peanuts, and hummus with bagel chips. They also brew their own root beer and that was amazing. This place will surprise you, bottom line. It's not much in the outside but inside it's awesome. Modern Texas farmhouse decor with a single bar and no waitstaff. But the beers... oh the beers make this a must and probably the best tasting brewery in Grayling. Every single beer I tried (7) had that great, crisp, fresh taste and unique flavor for each type. I was totally surprised but happily. They also have free popcorn and even filled a non- sanctioned double walled container for me so I could take some beer home. On top of that, they allowed my puppy to come inside since it was 92 degrees outside. Talk about killing it for their customers. I will always stop in here for a cold one! read more

My grandfather bought a seasonal home outside Grayling and I have been going there since I was born forty years ago. We were excited to find microbreweries open in town, but we got lucky with Rolling Oak. It's the friendliest brewery I've ever been to. Beer is all good. I like that they don't serve food (though there's pickled eggs and a cooler with chocolate milk and shit), it caters to just the drinking crowd, no dinner surge. I usually get a bar seat. I like that. Favorite beers: Shorter Cut to Fun, imperial whiskey stout. Watch this one, it's incredibly drinkable. Not heavy in any category, but just a tasty whiskey stout. Smoky and sweet. Jessica Rabbit, strawberry blonde. Incredible beer. Fresh strawberry taste and blonde malts. I believe it was 5.4%. This is my hottest buy. Rolling Belt - blackberry pie stout. 9%. Another dangerous imperial stout. So smooth, no warming. Made with real blackberry pie by the brewmasters mother to give it sweet tartness. I bought a howler, which ended in hilarity. The pale ales and ipas were all classically hopped of which my favorites were Range 13 ipa and Hop Daddy dipa. They grow hops on the side of the building. And yes, the peanut butter porter is great too. Caught their Oktoberfest at the end of my season and felt sad I couldn't drink it for another year. There's caffeine in the orange soda and they're closed on Mondays. Enjoy. read more

So we first visited this brewery last winter after getting a recommendation from the food truck chef at right brain brewing in traverse city. We never knew it existed, this place has been open since 2016 and im so grateful we were told of this place. Ive been a half local of Grayling Michigan since I was a little girl so not knowing this place was there makes me feel a little bit annoyed but I'm getting over it slowly each visit we go... So it's directly across from Goodale's bakery that should at least ring a bell if you're in the area... This place is home to the original icehouse and they kept a lot of the history intact. the inside architecture and some artifacts are displayed inside as well as photographs to pay homage to that history. The head brewmaster and owner is Jason, his wife, you will see behind the bar and is extremely passionate about the beers they have on tap and very nice to every customer... she's awesome! there is a small room with a few arcade games and then board games along the ledge of the window as you walk into the main room of the brewery. there are mainly tables and bar seating not huge inside but enough to invite a group... They also have a small patio outside for outdoor enjoyment as well as typically a food truck parked there to offer food since I do not have a full kitchen service... There's just something about craft beer and food trucks that marry together so well. As far as it being kid friendly I've seen plenty of families go in there with small children. The atmosphere is rustic, inviting and earthy with handcrafted shabby chic fixtures and decor. they also have craft sodas on tap that do not have alcohol in them for your Younghans to enjoy a under 21 flight lol I won't go into great detail on the individual beers, seeing as I do reviews on our YouTube channel (we have a video actually dedicated to this brewery) our blog and are on Untappd account if you're interested on those please check that out there. My favorite and everyone else's it seems is the peanut butter porter., my hubby changes his favorite constantly but the range 13 IPA is a go to for him. But I kid you not the quality and refined texture of these beers is far superior to most green breweries and Jason truly is a talent and we appreciate him opening a place of this caliber in northern Michigan. They have a mug club, fully booked I warm filled with return customers and locals. They also have merch and a popcorn machine which is a complimentary snack to help soak up the subs. I can't say enough about this brewery we have been at least 10 times and tell everyone we can about it. Open all year round. Cheers!!! read more

Best beer I have ever had! Good variety and price range is excellent. The place is so cute. Only thing I would do different is the staff. The bartenders are unfriendly and we have witnessed several people coming and leaving. We were going to take some beer with us the night before and asked the bartender if we should then on the next day since we would be leaving back towards home. She suggested that we wait. And now they don't have the beer we wanted bring. Such a bummer. It would be such a take off if the waitstaff and bartenders were more personable and into what's going on.
