Came here during the evening, found street parking pretty easily. I got the Garlic Parm burger ($14) I came with candied jalapeno bacon, swiss cheese, garlic aioli, arugula, tomato, on a toasted brioche bun with a parmesan crisp and fries. I don't usually expect much from a bar but this was very good. The Parmesan crisp really stood out and gave it both texture and a strong cheese flavor. The candied bacon was also very tasty, both salty and sweet and crispy too. The burger perfectly cooked and very juicy. It also came with fries which I did not see on the menu but for that price i was hoping that it did. I'd say for being in a bar it was reasonably priced and tasty! I also got a whisky mule which i found refreshing and tasty. There was an outside patio which we started at but it got shut down at a certain time 9:00 or 10:00? So we moved inside. Service was all order at the bar and they give you a number and bring it to you. Food they can bring to your table but if you order a drink too, you can just wait for them to make it and stand on the side of the bard with your number it should come up pretty quickly. I was really impressed with the efficiency and friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food. I can see why it was so crowded. I'd like to try the Espresso yourself cocktail next time. read more

I love this place!! Such a friendly atmosphere and neighborhood vibe. Leilani, our bartender, was so sweet and attentive during our last visit. We tried the "lake" sliders - they were amazing! I have never seen so many Eminems, Post Malones, and Riff Raffs herded into one bar. I'm not sure if this is the usual crowd or if we stumbled upon a random glitch in the bar scene but it made for an amusing night full of people watching and avoiding eye contact. Heaven forbid we appear receptive to the lions in that den! Sorry if any of you are into that kind of swag but I prefer my men preppy and square. Things I appreciate: - Prompt service - Decent lighting - Decent seating - Heavy-handed pouring ;) - Cute little wrist stamps declaring "over 21". I'm over 30 so it made my hand look cute and photogenic. Would I return? Ehhhhh I'll pass but only because the heart of La Mesa has more to offer. However, if for some reason I decide to let my friend coax me into drunkenly hobbling up the hill to the Hills Pub to round out the night by shifting the vibe from one bar to the next all over again... Locals spot in La Mesa. Place used to be called O'Conners but is now the Hills pub. Great indoor/outdoor seating. Food is good, drinks are strong. They have a full bar so,whatever you want they have it! The staff is really friendly and the vibe is chill. Cool place to go with friends. They also have a Pajamas breakfast on Sat and Sun. Beyond having a full bar and amazing beer selection, the food is actually really good--definitely better than what you would normally expect for bar food. I've come a few times and everyone is always very friendly and knowledgeable, with great recommendations. Over the weekend we stopped in for lunch and they were offering a shrimp sandwich special so I decided to try something new. I'm glad I did because it was amazing! Solid 3.5 stars... Headed home from hiking and this joint popped up on our radar. Convenient street parking and a range of seating options, which we chose the bar. Great local draft selection and I made my way through a few hazy's! I ordered the pepper Jack Mac burger, and it is a beast(but I handled it like a man!) thick patty smothered in spicy cheesy macaroni and topped with a queso to boot! Served with fries that I found myself eating with the Mac for the gooey cheesy crunchy trifecta! My only complaint was that the burger was slightly over cooked. Ambiance is industrial picnic, service was friendly, and prices were slightly above expectation. This place is fun, and I can likely only get this burger because it was such a wonderful combo...we will be back, this joint makes the list!! read more

The Hills is a great neighbourhood bar/restaurant! Almost five years ago, my boyfriend and I had our first date at the Hills. It was a great first date, obviously, since we're still together and thriving. This venue has great space and seating. It's been upgraded a bit more since the pandemic. The far wall used to have stadium seats at tables and are now curved booths. This was one of our regular date night spots before the pandemic. We had a friend in town last week and it was pissing down rain and I wanted some comforting, yummy pub food to nosh on. The Hills was the first place to pop into my head. The three of us trekked to the restaurant, found princess parking, and were able to find three spots at the bar on this packed rainy afternoon. There were two bartender/servers working the bar and restaurant and a server/busser working the other dining area and patio. The service was stellar! My eyes were way bigger than my stomach (and I forgot that most of the menu items are sharable). I ordered the Brussel sprouts, pretzel bites, and the Kung Pao cauliflower. My boyfriend ordered the buffalo chicken fries and our friend ordered the mahi mahi salad. Everything was ridiculously good! It was also way too much friggin' food for three people. HA! We also had some good cocktails including the Old Cucumber and the Puff the Magic Dragon. It was a darn good visit! read more

Instead of a "Date Night", was looking for a "Date Day" with my hubby. After 3 hours of pickleball in the morning, a burger and a cold beer were on both our minds. Bonus, there was a Padres game. Tori was ready to make it all happen for us. Her recommendation for the Parmesan Burger was spot on. Iced cold beer in a frosted glass, piping hot burger and fries, cool breeze and the game. It is back open, we met up with some friends here for an early morning cap before starting our weekend. They are located in La Mesa, near Highway 125 and Highway 8 somewhat close to Grossmont Center. There is a small parking lot in the back behind the restaurant/Pub. They offer booth seating and have table top seating outside in the patio area, as well as nicely décor outside wicker seating. The bathrooms are gender neutral and first come first served, they offer 2. The only downfall is if you choose to sit outside, there is a sign to order your drinks inside. They do provide you with a number and bring your items to you. They were able to print out a list of what is offered on tap, onto a receipt which was pretty amazing and we were able to quickly find appealing drinks. They offered you standard beers on tap, with a cider or two and I opted for the berry cider. Service was great and we did get our table cleared regularly. Our friends like coming here and the atmosphere was very relax and inviting. Would definitely come back as we hear they have pretty good food, I did see small children here as well, mostly outside and in the middle (outside covered area) of the Pub. I did see TVs, although we were not watching them. read more
