We love our local watering hole, the food is delicious, the arcade is a blast and the pet friendly back patio area has been great for bringing our pup along with us for quick drink/bite. Buddy and I were down here today dropping his son off at a school and we decided to check this place out for some breakfast while killing time. It's a cool atmosphere inside with a very welcoming staff that was very attentive at greeting customers walking through the door. I had the chicken fried steak which was delicious and although I usually spice up the gravy with tobasco, or tapatillo, I found no need to do so with this meal. The server was extremely attentive and accommodated us very quickly addressing us both by name, adding to the personalized feeling service. Although off my beaten path, for the quality of service and food, I'd have no qualms with making the trek down here for weekend brunch. read more

It's like standing there saving the parking space, but your driver is a block away. The guy didn't even order a drink. Service was very nice, the vibe is very cool, but the food was pretty bad. Came here for lunch one day and ordered the fish and chips along with two tacos. The food was not delicious at all. The fish was overly battered and overly fried. The tacos was nothing special and tasted like something you would get off of a roach coach. Decided to give this place a try since its right by my house. My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday morning and got seated right away. The server was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the country fried steak ($11.95) and my boyfriend ordered the "GAME" changer ($12.95). The fried steak was surprisingly good! The gravy was very flavorful unlike your typical gravy. The portion was pretty big too, it was enough to bring home leftovers. As for the game changer, it was also good too but nothing special. Overall the food was great and decent prices. The prices were reasonable and they make one great burger. I had the bistro burger and garlic fries which was very good. It comes with bacon and Brussels sprouts on it! Never tried that combination and it was really good. The bacon was quality bacon and cooked perfectly. The good food aside what grants this place a 5 star was the genuine hospitality of the staff. They were very friendly and personable. I was asked my name when I was seated and the rest of my time there I was greeted by my name by several different staff while waiting on me. Was looking for a place that had good burger reviews and chose The Hills Pub based on others reviews. They weren't wrong. Group of four on Saturday night was able to get a table at 6pm (though it was pretty busy afterwards). Had the pretzel bites appetizer which was amazingly good, also had some fun cocktail options that we took advantage of and I enjoyed my blonde ale. We all got burgers and they were extremely tasty, Garlic parm had a very cool cheese crisp presentation on the burgers and I enjoyed the El Diablo, since I like a little kick. Mixed it up with fries and onion rings in our orders and everything was very delicious. Also the service was Grade A, Kayli took great care of us, offered us some suggestions and tips for the future, and was an overall very charismatic and personable server, which just added to the experience. Definitely recommend this place and would return (wish we had someplace like this in our part of town in SD). Based on the number of people there, we're not alone in this opinion. Oh, parking is available in the back (access via an alley), but it was full when we went so we did have to drive around a few times to find a spot, so plan accordingly. read more

I've been to the Hills many times since it opened with a large variety of friends and we ALL ALWAYS love it. They have such a chill atmosphere, good service and great food and drinks to boot. One really nice touch is that the servers always ask for your names and try to use your names regularly. When you come back they remember you and make an effort to greet you as such. To show how chill they are, my friends and I used to host a regular game night here playing cards against humanity. We'd stay for several hours ordering food and drinks while playing the game and our servers would always chat about it. Another cool thing they do is spin a wheel during happy hour and a variety of fun things can happen like 1/2 off appetizers or free shots. One of the coolest things they ever did was host a Harry Potter themed Halloween party. It was tons of fun and every hour or so the whole bar would get free Harry Potter themed shots. This place is seriously one of the best places in San Diego, yet it never has a line and always has at least one free table for us when we show up. By the way did I mention the food is really good? I haven't tried a single one of their unique menu items that I did not extremely love or at least greatly like. Everyone needs to try this place. read more

Ordered several burgers Texas and Pepper-jack and MAC) and each one was damn tasty! Fries were well seasoned and delicious by themselves, add ketchup and boom! Of note, the Texas Burger comes standard with blue cheese, bbq sauce and onion ring on top; bleu cheese and bbq don't work together IMO, so substituted with American cheese. Only con, the drinks took over 10 minutes to get despite the fact that they were poured by the bartenders but no wait staff was available to deliver.
