This just became one of my favorite places. I visited 21c Hotel a year ago to see a very fun collection of contemporary art, including large piece installations of cars and beds and electrical pieces and video. This trip i timed it so I could have lunch also. The Hive incorporates the art and those pesky green penguins to give a sleek yet open feel. I had the Griddled Pimento cheese that was melt in your mouth delicious and sampled my buddies Pork Shwarma wrap. Tasty! The place was pretty slow, so our waiter spent a lot of time at our table and 2 others nearby. I could say that he was borderline pretentious and annoying, but that would be a disservice to his true knowledge and passion for what he was doing. He treated his job as an art form, he educated his customers on Australian wine, food preparation equipment, Muslim culture, rice growing, Indian art...A true showman... "Our chefs not only use locally sourced organics, but other bio-dynamic ingredients", ok that settles that , give me a side of the locally sourced and crunch up the bio dynamics right on top. Not trying to mock, just enjoyed the deep intelligence and unique presentation. Next trip to NWA I will come for dinner and dig deeper into the menu, and hope I get the same "pretentious" waiter! read more

I love the 21C Hotel, and had high hopes for this place, but was just underwhelmed. Maybe I'm a little biased because I come from San Francisco where we have a plethora of food options, but based on a combination of food, price, and size of dishes, I can't say I'd heartily recommend this place. It's fine if you're traveling for work and can expense your meal (as most travelers to Bentonville fall into this bucket) Maybe it's that I need to order the unhealthy things on the menu instead of trying to stick to my clean-eating, mostly-paleo diet, but I will tell you that other restaurants' dishes fare just fine with my semi-strange eating habits. I started off with the lettuce salad ($7) and wouldn't really recommend this. I suppose it's partly my fault for trying to be healthy and ordering a salad at a Southern-inspired restaurant. I guess I should've been ordering a biscuit instead, But regardless, that's not really an excuse for just pieces of lettuce, toasted walnuts, and some strange slightly-sour dressing. I settled for the Carolina shrimp entree ($28). I substituted the farro for extra vegetables, and when the dish came, each bite was unpleasant. First, 4 not-very-large-pieces of shrimp showed up, head-on -- which is fine, but $28 for 4 pieces of shrimp and vegetables seems like a giant rip off, even in SF or NY, let alone Bentonville. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind shelling out money for good food, even if it's in small portions, but this was neither. The shrimp was salty, the vegetables (broccoli and carrots) were mushy and reminiscent of a frozen food TV dinner. And for the first time in my life, I sent back my entree. I felt slightly bad, but I was hungry and paying almost $30 for this dish was just wrong. I ended up with the rib-eye ($29) which made up for the shrimp dish. The meat was cooked well and was tasty, with nice charring and no over-cooking. The brussel sprouts, onions, and potatoes were all well-done too, and I finished everything on my plate. All in all, I've had better meals at similar price points. The ambiance is nice and modern, and I know there aren't a ton of nicer restaurants in Bentonville. I may come back here again to give it another shot, but only if work is paying -- but I think BBQ or fried catfish may be my dining of choice n the next go-around. read more

Undercooking food is as rookie as it gets. Pork is a food that you should never serve rare, medium maybe; it should reach an internal temp of 145 at least. The order was a to-go order which I don't expect to see fixed... I only visited the bar area for Happy Hour. Cocktails are good and the wine list is long, so you're bound to find something you like. Happy hour is lively with lots of business travelers. Drinks are reasonably priced and the staff I attentive. I will have to return to try the food menu. read more

We stopped in Monday afternoon to have a drink at the bar. There were 2 seating hostesses and they stopped right in the middle of taking our info to discuss something that was going on in the dining room. I wouldn't have minded normally but they were not friendly and never looked us in the face. I noted that the main hostess was rather cold to everyone she seated after us. Our bar server was great. However, we were unpleasantly surprised to learn they charged an extra $2 for a "crystal clear 2" ice cube". When my husband asked for bourbon over ice it came w ice to the brim and the shot of bourbon down in the bottom. Hmmm. Bartender must not be very experienced. My husband picked me up from the airport, I was arriving from Chicago, and I desired a drink, not just a beer but a nice cold cocktail. We settled for a few minutes at his hotel (he is in Bentonville for a 6 months project) and we decided to try this place. We enjoyed the environment, set inside of an art gallery in quaint downtown Bentonville. Getting to be seated was a little disorganized. Someone approached us asked us if he could help, we stated we would like to have dinner, and then the conversation turned blurry, we were not sure if they accepted walk-in or not. This man left staying he was going to find out... we were not sure what, and minutes later a second person approached us. For a restaurant of this caliber it seems they should have the seating process together. Our waiter was excellent, he was very helpful and had an excellent drink recommendation "The Belle Gone Bad". It was very tasty and spiced with homemade jalapeno syrup, my husband rename it "Instant Sore Throat" because it does has a pretty good kick. We were served a small slice of corn bread as we waited for our server. They never asked us if would like another serving, boo hoo. We order Veal Marrow Bones to share as an appetizer. We like unusual things and we both have good childhood memories of eating marrow at our homes (his in Chicago, mine in Buenos Aires). For the not-so-faint at heart and adventurous person this was an excellent choice. Plenty of marrow to be spread over French bread toast and a peach chutney if you like a little sweet. For entre my husband had the Grilled Pork Chop served with fried pickles, zucchini and cranberry beans. I had the Tomato Panisse served with chickpeas, sweet corn, and basil. The pork chop was excellent, one of the best that we had (we always share), thick, evenly cooked over wood fire, and tender. The panisse was an unexpected surprise and texture, reminecent of polenta but made of chicpeas. We were satisfied and could not forced ourselves to try their desserts. Instead we had some of their delicious Sour Apple Cotton Candy served generously overflowing a glass that serves as a vase for the candy. Overall we give them 3 and 1/2 stars but that is not an option on Yelp, so 4 will do. Oh, we found the pinguings that they set at some tables odd and amusing. It would have been fun to see a theme. Pinguins are lime green, the serves having lime green shirts, etc. read more

Our favorite was the Butcher board with chicken and pork pate, prosciutto on crostini. It was a lovely dinner. We also enjoyed the current art exhibit that had an overarching theme of how the speed of technology is changing and effecting people and the environment in various ways. Connected to the 21c Hotel and Museum, The Hive is a quirky restaurant and bar that offers up good American food with modern twists and cool cocktails. We checked in on Father's Day and did brunch. Looks like they did reservation only for the holiday, bar and lounge area were open for seating. We took our group to the bar and went family style. We had the BMF chicken on biscuit, Caesar, and the butcher plate. Bloody Mary's, Arnold Palmers, and the Kentucky Daisy to drink. The chicken was breaded and fried crispy and fresh with the perfect sweetness and pickle to go with the biscuit. It came with crispy fried potatoes that paired great. Very filling and good. The Butcher plate had house made chicken liver pate, house made pork loaf?, pickled green beans, and cured country ham with grain mustard. Plenty of slightly crispy toast to spread. Chicken liver pate was creamy and had buttermilk infused to take the iron flavor away to really make it tasty. Typically, these charcuterie style boards come with a little more to choose from. Meats, cheeses, and other varieties This was good, but lacking in options. Wish it would have had some more meats to choose from. Maybe even a honey comb? For The Hive? The drinks were spectacular and our bartender/server was great. I liked the well-mixed Bloody Mary, and the cool, refreshing Kentucky Daisy made with bourbon, lime and ginger. We probably weren't the typical guests to this restaurant in the hotel as we were stopping in for what we named as "App Crawl and Alcohol". We started this trend a year ago so The Hive was a perfect spot to start our afternoon and the driving factor is their honey fries which is not something you can find on the appetizer section of the menu. Our friends that live nearby said they had a meal that came with these magical fries on the side so we couldn't resist trying to order these to share with the table. Our waiter had no issue accommodating our french fry request. Their Pimento cheese and bread appetizer is also pretty tasty. We also arrived during their Afternoon Aperitivo, or happy hour, which had some nice choices. I decided to veer away from their Aperitivo drink menu and order the Warm & Classy from their normal cocktail menu. This drink is warm and sooooo delicious. It's the perfect flavors for a cool November day while also channeling a little holiday spice! I highly recommend it. We will definitely come back for our next visit to Bentonville! read more

For my and my husband's third wedding anniversary, we spent the majority of the day flying home from NYC. So we knew we wanted to have a nice dinner somewhere before heading home from the airport. We'd heard good things about The Hive so figured we'd give it a shot. First of all, the restaurant itself is super cool. Trendy décor, lots of neat looking art. Located inside the 21c Museum Hotel, The Hive definitely belongs here. We started off with a couple of appetizers. Hubby had the special, Pork Belly with fried leeks. And it was good, although not the best pork belly he'd ever had. I chose the winner - the Spring Pea Soup. I'd never had pea soup but wanted to try something different. Oh. My. Goodness. The best way to eat peas EVER! It was amazing. Savory with a touch of sweet. It was indulgent and creamy and unlike what you'd expect when you think of peas. I'd order this again and again. For entrees, my husband got the scallops with black-eyed peas. He said the scallops were cooked perfectly and he was pretty happy with his choice. This time he was the winner because my choice - the pasture raised chicken - was very overcooked. I still ate it though and the flavor was good, just not cooked right. For dessert we split the cream cake. First of all, it was a very big piece of cake, or at least I thought so. It was cold like it just came out of the fridge, which I thought added a nice quality to the flavor. However, the more we ate of it, the more we realized the cake (not the icing part) tasted just like their cornbread they had brought out earlier. So I'm not sure if that's right or just our imagination, but the dessert became less exciting for me at that point. Overall, we enjoyed our time at The Hive. We would wholeheartedly come back here again as well as recommend it to others. read more

The Hive is by far one of the coolest places in Bentonville. Located inside 21c just off the downtown square, it's like having happy hour in an art installation. It's modern, sleek, and hip. The cocktails are some of the best I've ever had. The refreshing drink I had was called the Windsor, and I will be forcing Duke to recreate it for me soon. It was the perfect drink for a hot summer night: Absolut Ruby Red, St. Germaine, fresh lemon juice, and grapefruit juice. Divine. My coworkers had some incredible bourbon concoctions that were delightfully strong but brilliant as well. The Hive is also prime people-watching territory, especially those wandering through the 24-hour museum galleries. More museums should have top-notch bars in them. read more

Great place for date night or just a night out to grab a bite. The food was awesome - started with the Pimento Cheese and Local Heirloom tomatoes as starters. Moved on to the Pan Roasted Chicken which was delicious. In between we decided on some drinks (The Hot Pink Jet Ski, Sangria, and the Hive an' Dime) and got to say the sangria was my favorite. Not a sweet drinker but it was the go to drink for the night. Ended the night with the complementary green apple cotton candy. The staff was very friendly and overall experience was great. Came for Sunday brunch. Maybe it's because the World Cup final was going on, but I was surprised that the place wasn't packed. Regardless, got seated very quickly. Nice atmosphere, great service, and most importantly, delicious food! Ordered their blueberry beignets to share with the table. Only $5 for five amazing beignets and lots of fresh blueberries. The dipping sauce though was a little too sweet for me (and kind of tasted like gogurt); it would have been better if there was a savory option to go with it. My main breakfast item was the Hive Eggs Benedict. Man......... it's definitely one of the best benedicts I've ever had. I usually like to try corned beef hash at new breakfast places, but they didn't have it as an option but I'm glad that they didn't otherwise I would have missed out on their heavenly eggs benedict. Last comment is that I did come to the Hive previously for happy hour and they ran out of their house gin which was a disappointment. For that reason and the dipping sauce, it keeps it from being a 5/5. read more

Good service, great art, and excellent food! Inside 21c Museum Hotel, The Hive serves a midsized menu of seemingly standard fare...but each dish has a delicious twist! My burger had tomato jam and have some made pickles, which really put the flavor over the top! The entire restaurant is surrounded with a unique art installation that looks like honeycomb, bees, leaves, etc. If you look closely, it all appears to be constructed from recycled materials! If you have kids in your group, you may find yourself sitting next to a bright green plastic penguin. We had high hopes for this place after reading a few reviews and seeing the funky, art-filled space. Unfortunately, the restaurant disappointed. We took our family for breakfast on a moderately busy Saturday morning. Everything about our experience was disappointing. The service was nonexistent. We watched our food sit on the kitchen counter for a long time before it was brought to our table, and unsurprisingly, it was cold. We would have told our server about the problem, but he was nowhere to be found. When we were ready to leave, we had to flag down the host to clear our table and get our check. I'm not a very demanding patron when it comes to service, but this was inexcusable. There were plenty of open tables and plenty of servers to make for a passable dining experience. The terrible service and food came nowhere close to justifying the steep prices. If you want to see the artwork, skip the Hive and go straight to the museum. read more

Spectacular. We live in New York City and Palm Beach and tend to be Four Seasons Hotel people. One of our friends was flying to Bentonville for the night and wanted some company so asked us to join.....which we did. We had no idea what to expect and were blown away. First, we are art collectors and were surprised by the space allotted to galleries and the curated shows on the lobby floor. Then we were surprised by the sophistication. Of course the people who work here are nice (it's the midwest, everyone is nice) but we were shocked by the way the rooms were designed. We had a King Deluxe which was something we'd have done in our own home..............except the mattresses are better. Then came breakfast room service..........perfect and exactly on time. We decided to have dinner in the hotel at The Hive and we liked it very much. When we left in the morning to go to the airport, we found that our plane was grounded because of the weather in Florida. We have the joy of President Trump in Palm Beach so we couldn't fly back to PB and had to fly to Boca Raton. We were told that the guess was that we would have to wait in the terminal for 5 hours and get to Boca around midnight.....so we decided to go back to the hotel and spend a second night. We laughed all the way back. We were delighted to spend another night at 21c.......and they put us back in the same rooms and we felt like we were returning home. I know this sounds ridiculous but this hotel is out of the ordinary......and $250 for the first night and $219 for the second makes it the bargain of the year. Normally, I'd say "they get it" but this doesn't come close to expressing what a fabulous place this is. Thanks Y'all. read more

From the moment we were seated I was excited about our dining experience. Our waiter, Jefferson, greeted us and I could already tell he would be wonderful. His love for the food and time taken to explain the food and cocktails to our party was so appreciated. We were a group of six, three adults and three teenagers. Our table favorites were the pimento cheese with bacon jam appetizer, the Halibut entree....AMAZING, the Hive burger with honey glazed fries and we shared the sides at the table which were also so good! Imma be honest (it's what I do). I'm super disappointed that this cool joint with the bee decor didn't have a more bee themed menu. But there's giant penguins that can sit with your table and an almost seek and find adventure with the artwork, so that almost makes up for it. Plan on dropping a few dimes here but this is a great place for a fancy night out. And the art in the museum is free so maybe it balances out for a great date night. read more

Quick take: pretty great! Delicious menu, strong wine list, cool atmosphere. Food: 4.5, Service: 4. Reservations highly recommended. The night we visited they appeared to be a little understaffed, but were managing it well. Cheeseboard was minimal, with just three soft cheeses, honey, and bread. The swordfish was cooked appropriately, but tasted a tad fishy. Beans were bland; but paired with the fish it all worked well. Would have liked a little more...something. Spice, char, or lemony sting would have been nice. My date had the panisse, which was excellent. Ambience is great - you really can't beat a 21C on that note, with a thoughtfully-curated (and thought-provoking) modern art gallery right at hand. Also, Hive is decorated with handmade honeybees, comb, and vines, all from repurposed items (such as garden hoses and electrical cords). Very cool. A gully washer of a rainstorm came up, causing a skylight to leak and drip on my girlfriend several times. We asked to be moved and they complied, but it took them several minutes do so (despite multiple open tables), we had to move stuff ourselves, and they didn't offer to comp anything. read more
