Came here for a graduation dinner to celebrate with a large group. We start in the bar area to enjoy our drinks before dinner. The drink menu was great with a lot of unique and fun cocktails. We ordered some appetizers that were very delicious. They brought out the wrong appetizer, and forgot about our replacement until we reminded them around 30 minutes later. Some members of our group got the hive burger which they said was delicious! I got the chicken with gnocchi. It was good, but the sauce was more of a thinner dressing. Overall, I would say the prices are tad on the higher end for the food. Our waiter at dinner was attentive to our drinks and was prompt with all refills and needs! I'm just not sure about this place! Let's paint the scene... It is inside of the Art hotel ... when you walk in there will be this interesting sculpture of two people in the process of doing "it" at the entrance. Then when you walk in the restaurant they have all this decor that is supposed to look like a hive with bees... it really looks like something out of Aliens. Like it is some form of alien cocoon, slimy and dripping from the walls with bees on it! Then add in the green penguins just placed around and seriously... it is just weird! Our server was prone to way over talking... it got to the the level that we didn't want to ask anything because then we would have to sit through his answer. Seriously... way way over talking! The food was ok... but tried too hard... you know one of those places that is putting together odd flavors to try and be unique. Well that they achieved... the flavors however were just a bit ... Gave it a year and tried it again. Came in for Easter breakfast after the sunrise service at the square. I'll be honest, the only reason we came here was because nothing else was open at 7am on Easter morning, but we ended up having a good experience. I ordered the egg sandwich with skillet potatoes. The biscuit was flaky and delicious, egg was covered with a perfect amount of cheese, and sausage was deliciously cooked to order. My partner ordered the pancakes and requested chocolate chips, which they didn't hesitate to accommodate. Service was on point, coffee carafe was full, and the restaurant was quiet. I went to The Hive for a work dinner. Service was excellent! We tried 4 of the appetizers and a few of the meals. Everything tasted great! I'm surprised to say that the crispy chicken livers were my favorite app. They were tender and flavorful and came with 2 house made sauces for dipping. The baked ricotta while still good, was my least favorite of the appetizers we tried. I also really enjoyed the Campanelle pasta! read more

Let me start with the service was fantastic. At first, we were seated in a very undesirable table near extremely large and loud party. After a couple of requests, we were accommodated in a different spot in the restaurant. Our waiter was very attentive, friendly and took care of all of our needs promptly. The four of us had two pork chops and two hamburgers. Nobody ate the hamburger buns. They were very dense not light or fluffy. The french fries were very good. One of the pork chops was great. The other was probably 60% fat and should not have been served. The sweet potato purée and the brussels sprouts were excellent. The reason I gave three stars is because of the pork chop and the fact that the price for the food was Expensive. $22 for a hamburger that consisted of mostly just good fries seems a bit much. And $36 for a pork chop that when I finished the meal had more fat on my plate then what i consumed in the meal just didn't feel like a very good deal. We shared a 50 bottle of wine and had nothing else. Our bill was 227.00 bucks. I was disappointed. read more

So supposedly this is THE place in town. When I arrive, I hear the maitre d' telling a caller they are totally booked for the night. I contemplate how strange that sounds as I survey the nearly empty restaurant as I am led to my table. I keep waiting for all these guests to arrive, but they never do. The menu is pretty limited and a little on the adventurous side. As I perusing my very nice server arrives with some cornbread and butter. I am excited until I realize it is cold and dry and the butter, instead of a luscious honey butter (you're in the Hive for God's sakes) its some kind of "cheesy" butter. Weird... I order order a sour ale and my server pops the can open at the table. Also, weird.... I order the roasted chicken with quinoa and carrot gnocchi. It is an extremely small portion which is fine for me, but would definitely not fill up a hungry guy. It is tasty but lacking any kind of wow factor. As I look around, I am really put off by the strange decor which totally does not go with the artsy gallery vibe in the rest of the hotel. It's a Hobby Lobby explosion of huge paper mache' bees and honeycomb that just repeats around the entire restaurant like an oversized garland. It's tacky and weird and so unsophisticated, unlike the menu which looks like it's really trying to be very upscale. I wouldn't go back....If you're in town for business, there have got to be better places than this. If you are stuck in the hotel because the weather is bad, you won't starve. read more

I can't remember a better dining experience in Arkansas. To be able to browse through art with an amazing drink while waiting on our table was a great bonus. Our waiter was simply perfect. I think his name was Chip, and I feel horrible for not being 100% sure of that because he was amazing and about 3.5 of these stars are dedicated to him. He had so much knowledge about where the food was grown or raised, how it was prepared, what wines would be best, and how the flavors of the dishes play off each other. He was just the right amount of "I know everything about this place" without us feeling annoyed. The dishes we ordered were perfect. I'm thinking their menu is all seasonal and changing every few weeks maybe. You wouldn't think you could pull off a bug themed restaurant without a little tackiness, but they somehow pulled it off. I have lived in NWA for close to 2 years. The Hive had been on my list to try since we moved here, and for whatever reason we just never made it until last night. My husband asked me where I wanted to go to celebrate our anniversary. After some researching on Yelp, we chose The Hive. I am kicking myself for wasting the last two years. I made our reservations online, which I highly recommend to any patrons, as well as applaud The Hive for offering. In my reservation process, they asked me were we celebrating anything in particular and I responded we were celebrating our anniversary. When we arrived at The Hive I immediately took notice of the Covid precautions. They take temperatures, tables are spaced out, every single member of their staff was wearing their masks correctly, there was hand sanitizer posted and I saw that several staff members using it. Additionally, they are using QR technology for their menus. The Hive is clearly doing everything to protect their customers and staff. Kudos to them! We checked in at the hostess desk and we were promptly seated. If you are looking for a great date space, this is it! They have these super cute corner booth/tables that are perfect for dates! The lighting/ambience is awesome, and of course you have to appreciate the fact that you are dining in a restaurant wrapped with a remarkable art installation of a honey bee hive. Within a moment of being seated, Britt (our waiter) greeted us. From the moment we sat, I felt like Britt was on a mission to make our anniversary awesome, and he did! He brought us champagne to sip on while we browsed the menu. On Sunday nights, The Hive has a "Sunday Supper" menu. Last night's offering was: Creamy Tomato Soup, BMF (buttermilk fried) Chicken with bacon braised cabbage, and Carrot Cake. I ordered the Sunday Supper and my husband chose the Prime Beef Ribeye (with crispy potatoes, Madeira mushrooms, and bernaise aioli). The Hive has a nice selection of wines, craft beers and some very unique cocktails. I ordered a glass of wine, but I definitely would like to go back sometime for Afternoon Aperitivio, which occurs on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and features $7 cocktails! Back to food...I don't typically like tomato soup, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. It didn't have a strong tomatoes flavor. It was more subtle than traditional tomato soups. It was also the creamiest I have ever had. Shortly after the soup arrived, Britt brought us cornbread with sorghum butter (made in house of course)! It was incredible! The cornbread was dense and hearty, with a savory flavor. The sorghum butter was the perfect compliment with a touch of sweetness. After we finished the soup, Britt brought us a sampling of the House-made Campanelle! It was fantastic, and let me just say I know what I will be ordering next time I visit! The lemony cream sauce was perfect, with just a hint of lemon. Our main courses arrived, and I was genuinely impressed with everything. My husband is very opinionated and hard to please about 3 things- steaks, burgers and carrot cake! I was actually shocked when he said that his Ribeye was the best one he has had in NWA, and possibly the best one he has ever had. He said it was cooked perfectly to his request (medium rare), with just the right amount of seasoning. The potatoes were also incredible! My friend chicken was delicious. The breading was unlike any breading I have ever had! It wasn't even the least bit greasy, and the flavor was amazing! I also loved the bacon braised cabbage! I was so full, I had to give my second piece of chicken to my husband (sadly). The Hive's desserts are legendary. I had heard about the pecan pie when we first moved here. We asked Britt if we could order a piece of pecan pie to eat there, and then box up the carrot cake to go. Britt was gracious enough to oblige us. The pecan pie proved why it has earned a reputation. It is topped with buttermilk ice cream, which is the perfect sweetness to compliment the pecan pie. As we were leaving, Britt graciously walked us by the kitchen. I love that the kitchen is open and you can see the food being prepared! Britt gave us a great tip to request a table by the kitchen next visit. For anyone in management that should come across this review, Britt is a great ambassador for your establishment! He is among the best wait staff we have ever had the pleasure of dining with. If you are wondering if the carrot cake made it through the night. It didn't. My husband ate it before he went to bed last night! I was still stuffed, but I tried it. Both of us agreed it is the best carrot cake we have ever had! Occasionally you are blessed enough to eat a meal that you will remember for a lifetime, and this was one of those! Situated next to an art museum and a very dashing hotel, The Hive is elegantly laid out and it's menu is straight forward with surprises. For me everything starts with service and attention to detail. Our server was very well attuned to our needs despite a very crowded restaurant on a Wednesday. We were celebrating my wife's birthday so it was special right from the start. Food was brought out fast and the best thing of all the corn bread was a bit delayed due to fresh ordering. So this is the 4th 21C I've visited/dined at. (Have been to Louisville, Durham, and Cincinnati). I was pleased to see the signature penguins here. This one has green penguins, as every 21 gets its own color. I was a little too early for my dinner rez, but The Hive was serving a limited bar menu. I enjoyed a cocktail and the cheese plate with local honey and it was just enough to satiate me until I got to Eureka Springs later that night. Love the decor. Love the bartender. I didn't catch his name, but he was incredibly helpful- gave me a good bypass to get around rush hour traffic, as I made my way out of town. (I was leaving right around 5:30 PM). I've been here twice. The first time I went with my boyfriend, and it was excellent. I ordered the ribeye, very well done. It was perfect. Service was great. The second time, however... I arrived/checked in at 7:08 for a 7:15 reservation and was told I was early and to "come back at 7:15" and I would be seated. I was with my teenaged daughter and didn't want to be a Karen, so we waited. Our drink orders were taken after we were seated and then a manager came around to let us know that things were running a little behind and she asked if she could order anything for us. We were ready to order our meals, so we did. Mine was a ribeye, very well done. She informed me that they don't precook their meat (I didn't know that restaurants do that, anyway?) so it would be a while if I wanted it well done. I said that was fine. (I know, well-done steak is just shameful--the horror!) I will attach a photo of the steak I got approximately an hour later. Our actual waitress was very nice. The manager's polite lecture-esque warning about the well-done steak taking forever... eh, we could have skipped that. And being told to "come back" for a reservation that was seven minutes in the future is kinda weird. On both counts, maybe just *say* something along the lines of "things are kinda busy right now but we will [insert action here] as soon as possible." After the first visit, I'd have recommended The Hive without question. After the second, not so much. I'll probably, maybe try again in the future. Hopefully it was all a fluke. read more

It's been over 7 years since I reviewed the Hive. Tastes change over time I suppose. I really like the Hive, the bar and the restaurant. We were there last night Christmas Eve dinner. Regular menu. It was full, I was actually shocked how many people were eating out however like us, perhaps they had to steer away from family in this pandemic and chose to eat out, socially distanced instead. The above did a great job of spacing out seating. We actually ate dinner in the bar area. They also carried dining into the hall on the northwest side of the building. I enjoyed the "Warm and Classy" cocktail. Quite the sipper. Served warm like a hot toddy, it was a mix of home mulled wine, bourbon, benedictine and honey. Tasty. We enjoyed the pimento cheese toasts with bacon jam and for dinner, a great ribeye with caramelized onions and mushroom. Service was fantastic and attentive. read more

I'm sorry Hive but there's absolutely no excuse for what happened at your hostess stand today. This place is located in the most hip hotel/museum in Bentonville, the 21c. We stopped at The Hive today for lunch. Asked the hostess if she had a table for two. She shook her head yes, and put her hand up in a 'just a second' gesture. Then picked up the phone and proceeded to dial. She was making calls to confirm reservations for the restaurant while we were standing right in front of her. When she was done confirming reservations, the phone rang and she answered it. Apparently there was no one on the line when she said hello the first time so she pulled the phone away from her face and looked at it with a confused expression, and said hello again before hanging up. While this was happening another couple came up behind us, so now there is a line starting to form while the hostess is only paying attention to the phone. When she finally decided to assist the people standing in front of her, she walked us to our table without saying a word. To say the least, we weren't pleased with the hostess situation but with all the great reviews, we decided to persist. Unfortunately the remainder of our experience didn't make up for the front door debacle. I understand people always start from somewhere but if I owned this establishment and learned this was happening at the front door I would be horrified. Level up Hive. read more

This place is just fantastic! I've eaten here twice over the last two years and each time has been an incredible and unique experience. The servers know so much about the rich history of the restaurant and the hotel it's in, and the seasonally changing menu means there's always something new to try. The food is daring and always delicious, and the artwork that surrounds you complements the dishes perfectly. We had a late Saturday reservation for a group of eight. The restaurant was extremely busy and our server was bizarre from the start, talking about how the chicken is $22/lb and not available to the general public? I suppose an attempt to explain the quality of ingredients they use? The food was ok, but honestly not great. The drinks weren't bad, maybe the best part of the whole experience in retrospect. We waited over an hour and a half for our entrees. At the end of dinner our server split our bill seven ways (even though there were eight of us) by splitting every item into 1/7th. After realizing her error we offered to have one person pay. She then put all the 1/7ths x 7 for each dish on a bill and printed a CVS-sized check. We were baffled. We showed up about 10 minutes early for our reservation and were told to go explore the museum for a bit. Once seated, we enjoyed the paté and my husband got a salad. Both were good. Man. This place was great. We were honestly a little surprised. The vibe we got from the picture on yelp, etc didn't give the impression that this would be a classy establishment, but man were we wrong. This place has a unique environment. Going with the theme of the name, the 3 dimensional beehive and bees were incredibly unique and interesting. On top of that, one of the things you first notice are the green 4 foot tall penguin statues. These penguins were spaced through the restaurant, hotel and bar. Guests are allowed to move these statues around as they'd like (we had two sit at the table with us). There's an interesting story to go along with them, so make sure you ask! And that's JUST about the environment. As great and unique as the surroundings were, the food surpassed it all! People in our group tried the smoked white fish dip, Brussels sprouts, hog chop and sirloin. Man oh man! 1st- the hog chop had a butternut squash purée spiced with curry on the side, and it stole the show of the plate. The curry added an incredible spice/kick that paired beautifully with the chop. 2nd- the sirloin was INCREDIBLE. Brined for hours. Cooked to perfection. One of the best steaks I've ever eaten. We also tried several cocktails that were all delicious and refreshing- especially the margarita. The only downside to this establishment was our waitress. I've never had to make this comment before, but she was almost TOO helpful. She talked A LOT. But she was incredibly knowledgeable about everything.
