These ants are known for having one of the most painful stings in North America, so we didn't feel it was safe or reasonable to set up our tent there. When we expressed our concerns, we were initially told, "It's nature," which felt dismissive. We understand that insects are part of camping, but an active colony of stinging ants directly in the campsite is different from seeing a few bugs. We also noticed cigarette butts scattered around the campsite, which made it seem like the site hadn't been cleaned or maintained very well before our arrival. To the campground's credit, they explained they were completely booked and couldn't move us to another site, and they did provide us with a full refund, which we appreciated. We just wish the campsite had been inspected and cleaned before guests arrived, and that our concerns had been taken more seriously from the start. We had no other choice but to go home. Waste of money (buying camping gear, food and gas to drive there) and time!

This was my first time to utilize a KOA. It's not too far from the freeway and to many stores, gas…read morestations and places to eat. Check-in for us was inside the office/convenience store. I don't know if that is how it works all the time because there was a little booth at the entrance, but no one was there at the time. I don't know if they use that during the busy season. They have cabins, shaded structures, and RV spots available. Friends and I had trailers, tent and car camping. We had electric and water available at our sites. I expected to see more trees at the sites. They had trees, but it was more to divide the cabin section from the RV sites. It did provide shade but that was after noonish, and it got hot early in the morning. Thankfully we had our canopy. We also had heavy winds during different times of the day so keep that in mind and make sure your tents and canopy is secure. There are occasional squirrel's so secure your food if you are not going to be around. They have plenty of amenities. My friends used the pool and spa. Great to use when the evenings are warm and for star gazing! I was able to use the showers which were kept very clean (code is needed to enter restrooms and showers). They had a laundry room adjacent to the restrooms, they are coin operated. We did not take advantage of some of the activities that took place in the community room the two nights we were there. We actually stayed at the KOA because it wasn't too far from the venue we were going to see a musician. There is a pickleball court too which we could see from one of our sites. During our visit the park was not busy at all but it is off season. It was very quiet at the campground and it was very clean. Staff was seen often driving around. The convenience store have cute chachi's, but also carry necessities. That includes ice. I wouldn't mind reserving the same sites again. If I return I hope to use the other amenities that are available.

There is free Wi-Fi; however, streaming might have issues when the park is full. Free laundry room! Well kept and modern located with the park restrooms. Our Verizon wireless router seems to have issues between 6 and 8 PM but works fairly good otherwise. Great T-Mobile 5G coverage! There's a small NEX within walking distance. No Restaurant on base however they do offer lunch at the gym/sailor Center during the work week. The gym is a very short walk from the park and is open 24/7! They offer a variety of fitness programs if you would like to participate. Very modern facility and equipment! There are several wonderful restaurants in the area! There's even a great little dive bar called Dave's Other Place where many Sailors stop on their way to Main Street when in port.

I used to pay $90/day to keep my rv somewhere else and it's almost half as much here. Well it's a little more if you add the waste/ sewage but it's still not nearly close to $90. The level of comfort and home vibe I felt while staying says a lot because this new full time rv way of life has been a tough adjustment for me but woods valley made me feel like "yeah I could for sure do this." I could only afford to pay for one day at a time but if you pay for weekly or monthly, you get a discount. So that's my eventual goal.

Good things: We thought the bathrooms and showers were very clean. The food at Moes was good as were the drinks. The store was well-stocked with toys, food, and clothing. The pool and jacuzzi were great, and the kids loved them. Kids' activities and games were plentiful, and they also enjoyed the playground. Staff was helpful in the office. Security was present and doing lots of rounds the first two nights (did not see them the busy Friday night). The camp was VERY, impressively, quiet at night. Middling things (mind you, the campground is not in control of these!): the sand is not soft sand like at the coastal beaches. Kids will probably need shoes for the shells and rocks, and it's packed super hard. The campground is under the flight path of John Wayne airport, so expect to know when it's 7 am each day since that's when the planes begin roaring overhead. Not-so-great things: the sites are super close together. Yes, you will be packed in like sardines, especially in the "standard" back row sites, which were completely filled when we visited. It is hard to back in when trucks are parked along the road, in front of the tiny sites- there is VERY little room for error. The sites are ALL DIRT, which I did not think would be so bad until I lived it. (Never again, unless I buy some turf at some point.) When campers dump their waste, expect to get some whiffs. (Many reviews note something about the angle of the dump/hose- we don't have a bathroom in our trailer so I can't attest to that issue.) Finally, the single biggest deal breaker for us was the allowed use of wood burning fire pits at sites. Since everyone is crammed in there, people burning wood on Friday night resulted in the paths and trailers and even the bathrooms being filled with smoke. They should only allow gas burning fire pits! So yeah- if we return it will only ever be mid week and preferably in the off-season.

The employee appeared completely untrained, offered no helpful information, and acted inconvenienced by a basic customer inquiry. Customer service and professionalism matter, especially during busy holiday weekends when visitors are looking for guidance and support. I hope management takes customer experience more seriously moving forward and provides better staff training.

The entire campground was clean, restrooms were clean for being outhouses, and everyone was very respectful. I took out the wild horse trail which was 4.5 miles out and 4.5 miles back to the trailhead. Trailheads are literally walking (steps) away from my site. Gorgeous views out here!!!
