    December 2021 build-your-own toy

Here me out: Home Depot is the Apple Store of hardware stores. First of all, their app is out of this world and lets you select an item and then see where it's located in the store on both a map and via aisle/bin number. Have you ever walked into another hardware store and located a specific type of screw in under 3 minutes? I have. When you're ready to checkout their self checkout is the best I've ever seen and I've been telling this to people for a long time. Why, you ask? There's no prompts for loyalty cards, welcome screens, nothing. You just walk up and scan the first item. You can probably swipe and pay for an item in under 30 seconds. Again, super helpful if you're just coming in for a screw. Here's the big one, the one that earns this place 5 stars. If you walk up to customer service once a month you can sign your kid up for a free Home Depot workshop. These workshops are suspended during Covid but they still give away a free build-your-own toy for kids. In the month of November they gave away a Christmas ornament that my kid had to glue together and in December we got a car to build (hammer required). My kid is obsessed with all things tool related so these little activities are a dream for him. Home Depot really knows how to get kids hooked at an early age!

Unexpected, to find such an exotic pepper At Home Depot

We're going to have a lot of cicadas which can severely damage young trees. Home Depot does not care. They have quarter inch bird netting I don't think is fine enough to block cicadas.

My contractor showing that the fridge will stick out therefore doors opening will not be an issue

Update 2 days later: Lowes came to install the fridge, no issues with them, it does fit. So thank goodness we have a contractor with a brain or else we would've listened to the Home Depot guys & get a smaller fridge that would have space between & look bad. Thanks Lowes!!

I love Home Depot, full stop. And this one is convenient (Beltway traffic notwithstanding) and good for basic stuff (good paint section). But the parking lot is terrible and the layout is somewhat confusing. The seasonal section is haphazard and it can be challenging to get help sometimes. They installed self service checkout kiosks, which I personally like, although it's frustrating to have to wait when someone decides to try those for the first time when they have a zillion things in their cart and no idea what they're doing.

I came in last night to get a thermostat guard and some drip pans for my plants. Everything was very easy to find and also very well stocked. Self checkout was a breeze even though there were also cashiers available too. I recommend this location because they have a great selection in the garden department.

A large, pleasant, dog-friendly Home Depot near the Westfield Mall. They have shields up for self check out as well as cashiers. Pretty organized. The only thing is: we were looking for toilet repair kits. But these are not with the toilet aisle. They are in the "plumbing" aisle. A bit counterintuitive.

No customer service reps to be found.

My how Home Depot has changed on the customer service front. Being from Atlanta, I'm somewhat forgiving of them since they're my "hometown" company. Yet this location, along with countless others, has gone from a customer service helper every aisle to having to chase people for business they could easily earn. Little ownership to tackle customer issues, and lots of pass offs to others - others who never seem to show up. Home Depot, you lost easy business today for a major home improvement job...all because you never would get someone to the door section when someone was requested twice. Updated: Karla took over the reins and really took ownership in our buying experience and never made us feel rushed. I would highly recommend going to her for your door needs - she was an all-star after a rough start.

This is Hugo!! Just the best!!

This place is fantastic!…read more So, I only have a 5' x 9' balcony in my condo in Bethesda on which to garden. In April, I had started some herbs, morning glories, and a San Marzano from seed. They seemed to be really liking the morning, Eastern-facing sunlight they've been provided with, since moving them outside mid-May. To this IPO of a garden, I wanted to add a "pollinator planter". I did a quick search for garden centers in the area, and American Plant popped right up. I made a note in my daily planner to visit, and I'm so glad I did. They made finding what I was looking for so easy! On display was a list of all the native pollinators, categorized by season, and how much light/shade they require. I picked up a coneflower, verbena, aster, bronze fennel, and a New Guinea impatient for good measure, + a 17" terra-cotta planter for about a hundred dollars...insane. Everything looked very healthy, the staff was pleasant/helpful, and it was definitely affordable. Gardening is okay as addictions go, right? You could go to one of those mega-stores (you know what I'm talking about), but they won't have any native species, a helpful staff, and you won't save any money. Do yourself a favor, and plan a trip to American Plant. Maybe I'll see ya there!

If you can't find it here, then it probably should not be in your garden. From the painted pots to the abundance of healthy and beautiful plants, this nursery is awesome. I came here looking for a few items for a landscaping project at my home and found everything I needed. The staff is super helpful and will go out of their way to get you the answers or whatever else you need. Prepare to spend a lot of time looking at the best selection of healthy, well taken care of plants in DMV...imho. If you need an idea of what to do in your outdoor space, this Nursery is the answer. Staff is so helpful and great to talk with! Highly recommend this place!

We attempted to remove some ourselves but were quickly overwhelmed by the task. I researched native plant landscapers and came across Swamp Rose Co-op. After reaching out, Jeff, one of the owners, came to do a site visit. He was thorough in his presentation of plans and this February we had them come and do bamboo removal and plant some native trees and shrubs to act as a privacy screen. The Swamp Rose team was amazing! They pulled out over 2 tons of bamboo and roots! They planted native trees and shrubs which are thriving. Our backyard woodland meadow dreams are coming true. We have the team coming back in a few weeks to rip out the standard plants seen in the Silver Spring area (liriope, lilies, weeds) to replace with a native garden and we can't wait. One of my favorite aspects of this company is it is a co-op. The employees can be owners, and those who aren't are still paid a living wage as calculated by the MIT living wage calculator. They do excellent work! It is hard to find a native landscaper but this team is fantastic.
