Very poor experience. Bought a stove the dealership was poor. Waited 4 weeks for the delivery for multiple reason one being they forgotten to put it on the truck was delayed four times. Then they wanted to compensate me for the inconvenience. Said they would put it back on my card. Was trying to return a faulty smoke detector I purchased a few days ago. I had thrown out the receipt thinking I wouldn't needed but to my surprise the smoke detector wouldn't turn on. I returned to the store since I could use my credit card the I had used to pay for it. The cashier said she "couldn't find my card in the system" WTH! I ended up throwing out the smoke detector and loosing $25 bucks. What a scam! This is the first time I deal with any type of return at that store. Next time stick to paying cash or debit card. I've been coming to this Home Depot for many years. I'm a pro member and constantly make many purchases at this location, I would say at least twice a week. Spending over 100,000 a year. Today I came into the store to make copies of keys for my business and to purchase two wooden doors. After I checked out and paid for my items security ran after me in the parking lot. They stated that I didn't pay for the keys and that I hid them on purpose so I wouldn't have to pay for them. The keys had fallen in between the two doors on the cart and I didn't notice. As I recalled I had placed them on top of the doors and was not aware that they were not scanned at the register. I proceeded to tell them that it was not my intention and I would pay for them. They refused to let me pay for them as they were important keys for my business and instead kept them. If that was my plan I think anyone would have just placed the keys in their pocket. I'm a business man and always try to be as professional as I can. The security continued to mistreat me and started to search my pockets without my consent. Never did they say I was under arrest. Wouldn't let me leave or call anyone until I signed a formed that banned me for 3 years. Then they wrote warning on it. Their actions were absurd and would not give me a chance to explain myself. I felt mistreat and this was uncalled for. Coming from a law enforcement family I know that they were not going about this situation in a professional way. They were nothing but rude. I had great service from a young gentleman in the paint department. I stopped in just before closing with a list of paint supplies I needed. Clearly the list was created for me and I knew nothing about what to look for. I walked the department a few times and didn't see an employee. Then I heard someone in the next aisle ask a customer if they needed help. I went and didn't see anyone. Finally I asked a guy on his phone if he worked there. He was friendly and apologized for not checking on me and he got everything on the list that I needed. He really helped to alleviate the stress I just knew I was going to experience during my trip to Home Depot. I'm not sure why he didn't have on a Home Depot apron. This store is literally dangerous. I was there with 3 others and we were looking for plywood and several other things since we are doing a 70k renovation on our home. At this time, near the large shelving units that hold wood supplies, they closed off ONE side since they were moving materials with a forklift. While shopping on the other side, the entire shelving unit began to sway as the person operating the forklift on the other side pushed materials too far. It swayed by several feet as if it was going to fall. My friend who's wife was in the trajectory yelled, became very scared and dived for his wife. We ran out of the way. When he became upset and told the the forklift driver, he literally laughed and started to mock him, stating that he thought it was funny they were scared. When my friend, understandably became angry about this since it is not a joke, he pointed out that other stores he shops at will close both sides of the shelving unit they are working on in case they accidentally shove something off on the other side. The store worker continued to laugh stating that if they closed the other side, we would likely just go around the barrier and then get mad anyways. He went further saying, that we are a little stone in his way that needs to be flicked away. Two staff at this point began laughing. When we got the store manager involved he placated us. He did not reprimand the staff and tried to sooth us saying that the shelving unit was not going to fall. Now I assume this is not acceptable behavior both from a safety standard and staff behavior standard. We could not believe what we witnessed. The huge shelving unit was waving in the air, materials moved significantly and in our opinion were at high risk of falling with us standing below. Then for the staff to respond this way?? Don't risk your lives. Shop elsewhere. They literally and clearly do not care about the safety of their customers. I will also note the time I was there before this visit, the girl at the customer service counter was half laying on the counter playing on her phone. Several people were waiting for help while she half helped, half laid down, and mostly spoke on her phone. At one point she put whomever she was talking to on speaker phone so she did not have to hang up to "help" customers. Needless to say we were there forever! read more

The staff is friendly and willing to help, but basically you better know what you need and how to use it before you get here. Gardening department staff are not plant experts, are very friendly and mean well. Check Home Depot's website before going to the store to find out whether this location has what you need in stock. The kitchen remodel department is just ok. We went to the Menards nearby and then came here because it looked like they had a couple of items that I wanted on sale. I say looked like because I couldn't tell for sure from the sales paper that I received at my house. I guess Home Depot doesn't realize that there are some people who only read and speak English in my neighborhood because I haven't a sales paper from Home Depot delivered in English for probably 20 years now--only Spanish. Sometimes I can tell by the pictures and prices but today I wasn't quite sure what was "gratis" with the weed killer that I wanted to buy. We did not notice any sales papers when we came in the store and since tomorrow is the last day of the sale, I doubt that there were any - - and for sure I doubt that there were any in English because I have had a difficult time finding sales papers in English in some Home Depot stores--like the Bedford Park store--Spanish sales papers only if you get there by the end of the sale. We thought we would be able to tell what came "gratis" with the weed killer when we found the weed killer, but when we did there still was no indication if it was a buy one/get one free deal or a buy one /get a refill free deal. Finding someone to assist you in HD Is difficult and finding someone who is competent enough to actually assist you is like finding a needle in a haystack. It took about 5 minutes, but my friend translated the ad on the smartphone and it turned out that some kind of spray wand comes free with the Round-up weed killer. I ended up going with another brand that was cheaper and had the usual spray attachment that I am used to using. Now it was time for check out. They don't have ANY cashiers anymore. YOU now get to be cashier here if you want to shop here. We won't be wanting to shop Home Depot too often. 2 stars because the section of the store we saw was neat and seemed well stocked. It was also very peaceful--besides not having employees available, there were hardly any customers when we were there about 9:30 AM on a nice spring day. Well, I've found the Home Depot version of the Promised Land and it's just a short drive away in Cicero. Parking lot? Spacious and non-aggro. Staff? Friendly, available and, perhaps the most stunning of all ...they actually know where stuff is!!!! Stock? Lots of it...lots and lots and lots of it. Furthermore, this location has all kinds of goodies that they don't have in the city. Among the items carried here that you can't find in the city (or at least I couldn't 4 days ago at the Elston location) are...inexpensive doormats, very convenient BUCKETS of rock salt as opposed to bags, spray paint in every color of the rainbow, a far, far more interesting selection of space heaters/fake fireplaces, ladders and step stools that I've never seen in the city stores, a cornucopia of work gloves....it's endless. They are hiding all the good stuff out here, but now I'm onto them. Heh. 1 star of for the extra bizarre layout of this location and for the unbelievably rude employee babysitting the self-checkout. Thanks for ignoring my plea for assistance and making me lift that enormous pail of join compound onto the scanner even though you were sitting a foot away from me (ok, GR actually did the lifting, but still) with that handy scanning tool and for belittling and yelling at other customers that were having trouble. This has to be worst location. I try to avoid this location at ALL COSTS but sometimes they're my last option. First off does anyone work in this store that cares. No customer service at all. I was looking for some flooring that online it said they 18 boxes I get there cant find them. I moved every damn box looking for 18 big boxes couldn't find them. Not a single worker approached me like I am used to from Broadview they are so attentive there. So I try to find someone and it's impossible in this garbage location. I don't understand why they have sales if they don't grant them. My husband went yesterday to purchase a water filter and it was on sale instead of paying full price which was $50. As soon as he goes to pay the water filter rings up full price and he asks a cashier lady but why if there's a sign that's on sale? She just states "oh well I guess it expired and someone forgot to take it out". Makes me wonder how many more fake sales are there in this place that they don't keep track off? This is from my experience with the kids workshop only. I registered my girl scout troop online and received notices about the event. But when I got here it was unorganized chaos. No one was registered, no aprons, not enough workstations, not enough employees helping (leading parents to have to help leaving even less room for kids). I had heard from other troops that Home Depot had great workshops and that they had great times. We teach our girl scouts to be independent. This was a mess. I will never bring a troop here again. Its so not worth it. I would rather go to the Dupage Children's Museum for their workshop. Perhaps if they staggered the set ups to accomodate the amount of people, or if they looked at registrations they would have enough space. But right now it was just a big mess. bought a 5 dollar shower head there used the scanners when I checked my bank statement seen I was charged 56.06 for the 5 dollar item.I called customer service and they told me without the packaging they wouldn't be able to do anything. When i was shopping-Colin helped me find the utility sink I needed and loaded it into my cart. After that I went to the garden center where Rocky helped me load a flat bed with the heavier items I needed, showed me I could check out faster in the garden center and then helped me load my car. I don't blame the employees, it might be that they are understaffed; it's still not acceptable in any professional work environment. I waited for over ten minutes to find out availability on truck rentals, and still never got an answer. My husband & I went to this location yesterday to buy a water heater. We already knew what we were going to buy since I had already looked it up online & it was in stock. Got to aisle 29 & looked around for someone to help. The gentleman explained he didn't work in that department but would call the person who did. I heard the call over the intercom. After waiting 15 minutes we decided to find someone else to help. Found someone & said she didn't work that department either but would call & I heard that over the intercom. After 10 minutes, still no show & at this point we are "boiling" upset. My husband is 70 with high blood pressure, so I decided to go to customer service desk in front of the store. My husband stayed behind, in case someone showed up. Customer Service calls & wow, she showed up in less than 5 minutes. No apologies or explanation from her as to why the delay! After that we return to front desk to complete the order, that's a whole other story, in total to buy a water heater it took close to an hour.
