Worst customer service ever. My oven and dryer never worked, no solution after many conversions. HD feels 'cheap nowadays and getting worse. No customer EQ by local management - to the top of the chain. ACE HARDWARE is truly where it's at ! ABT when it comes to kitchens or some appliances. That's where I have been sending my customers, ABT got 3 kitchens bought, due to HD 's poor customer service per my experience. We purchased LifeProof Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring from Home Depot for our 600 sq ft basement, aiming for a cost-effective solution. The quoted price of $3,800 seemed very fair. They did mention that if the floor wasn't level, additional charges might apply, but this was mentioned so casually that we didn't foresee any major issues. However, once the product was delivered and the installer arrived, we were informed within minutes that our floor needed leveling. The installer contacted his company (Superior, who handles installations for Home Depot), and shortly after, Home Depot informed us that leveling the floor would cost an additional $4,200, plus another $700 to remove the existing vinyl flooring. So, our total cost skyrocketed from $3,800 to $8,700--more than double the original estimate, resulting in a 128% overrun. Bait-and-switch! After discussing our concerns with Home Depot, they agreed to reduce the leveling cost by $300 and waived the $700 fee for removing the existing vinyl. However, I had to tear up the vinyl myself and carry it up the stairs to the front porch. The floor looks nice now, but if we had known that leveling the floor would more than double the cost, we would have reconsidered our options. Don't shop here - they don't protect their employees! The same (long-term) employee was sprayed in the face twice in two separate recent attacks by shoplifters. After the 2nd incident, the employee ran outside to see if it was the same vehicle as in the 1st robbery and because of that, he was fired! Stopped into the store to purchase a few items for an electrical DIY project. I knew exactly where I needed to go within the store but had a question which I needed to clarify with someone in the electrical department. I asked someone at the front of the store my questions but they provided that I needed to speak with someone in electric with more experience. Which I can appreciate as it seemed to be the summer help mostly In view. The only compliant I can provide is how helpful & pleasant each of the summer staff was in attempting to "call a manager or another person to help" over the PA system. When I tell you that I waited at least 20-25 minutes, standing in one spot (aisle 5 bay 5) it's not an exaggeration. When the guy arrived he was extremely curt as if I was wasting his time & he had other things to do then assist a paying customer. If the later is true then why are you working at Home Depot? In fact I received the information I needed not from the HD "expert" but from another random customer who happened to be listening to our conversation... Do better HD management. How do you build brand loyalty. You have rock stars like Sara and Daniel working for you. Sara and Daniel made things right. Unfortunately, your third party delivery service totally hosed my delivery and try confirming delivery in the future. A 14 minute delivery ended up a no show by 8 pm. Then your delivery service tried to confirm the delivery at 9:15 pm in the future while I was on the phone with Sara at 8:30 pm. Then when I called and complained to the third party vendor. The receipt was changed to address inaccessible. Huge lie! What your driver (third party vendor) fails to understand is that technology tracks that in real-time. So... I just started taking screen shots from the app when my order was picked up at 6 pm from my phone. So ... yes! I know the truth and where your driver was. So ... I understand that this is a third party delivering for your store. However, you can quickly sink a company with who your doing business with. If I was Home Depot, I'd be very concerned. If I wanted to be a total idiot, I'd call out your driver and screen shot his travels. read more

I can't even begin to tell you how helpful, patient and kind that Mike in the Appliance Department was to me. I ordered my GE Electric Stove on line. I decided to go to the Glenview Home Depot so I could see the Refrigerator and Dishwasher. He spent much time with me explaining and answering my questions. He is a cheerful person and I could tell he liked his job. You are lucky to have such an employee! I give 5 Stars to Mike and I look forward to working with him if I should need a washer & dryer. I refuse to shop at your biggest competitor as their prices are too high and they charge fees for every little thing! Everyone in the Home Depot was friendly and helpful. That was until I encountered LINDA. I have never experienced such bad customer service as I did today speaking to her. I needed my window blinds cut and she refused, even after showing her that they were from the Home Depot. She was extremely rude and hostile. I spent an entire hour there trying to get someone to help me. The whole situation was very frustrating and disappointing. My parents have been shopping with the Home Depot for more than 20 years now, and are usually there every week. We have been loyal customers for such a long time. It's a huge location. You can find everything you need except for sale items - they're ALL OVER THE PLACE!! Employees aren't very well versed in helping you find the aforementioned items either so its kind of like a good-luck-you're-on-your-own sorta shopping experience if you're trying to save a buck. I'm not a handyman, or even remotely competent with tools, but I enjoy shopping at Home Depot anyway. They have almost anything you need for a home project. I like to keep the level of personal involvement in my home projects simple. I can hammer on stuff, hang a picture, and screw and unscrew without screwing up. But if it's plumbing, or electrical, or major carpentry work, I'll call in a professional. I do shop here mostly in the spring for lawn and garden stuff...there's a nice selection and it's reasonably priced. They do have a pretty good selection of budget and mid-priced appliances, and if I was in the market for a new appliance, I'd consider Home Depot as well. read more

Just a warning; Home Depot is not friendly to the needs of disabled customers, when it comes to deliveries/installations. My wife and I tried to purchase a toilet and have Home Depot install it, only to find out that the installer will not bring the purchased toilet. We were told that the toilet would need to be delivered, 'CURB-SIDE'! Not even into my home... bathroom on second floor!! Are you kidding me??? Lowe's will let you purchase, have installer pickup at store and come to your home for the install!!! We also were planning on doing a renovation to the same bathroom, which we got a $25,000 quote for and were happy with. What is happening to customer support these days??? read more

Terrible service. I've asked if they could cut 1" EMT pipes (10 ft long) to a specific length. I was actually willing to pay for the extra cutting service. The agent was very rude and condescending; told me "not a chance" then just walked away. A simple no would of sufficed if they don't provide this type of service. read more

Since moving to Deerfield, I've relied on Home Depot for items to improve my home. Today I went the distance to Home Depot Glenview, and I'm glad I did. As soon as I entered help was available. However my situation was a sticky one. My berber carpet acquired the gooey part of duck tape that was on the back of my yoga mat but had melted and pealed. Unbeknownst to me the heat from the weather and my weight over a few days embedded the goo into the carpet. I bought a turbo steamer and placed a paper towel over the sticky part and steamed like crazy. Only a small portion was removed. Home Depot provided a solution with the help of two young employees. Although I initially used Goo Gone from a small bottle to no avail, I was advised rather to purchase Goo Gone with spraying capacity. That worked. It efficiently penetrated the strands of the carpet. I applied a rough brush to force it further into the fabric. Then wiped it with a white cloth. I repeated the steps followed by washing clean the residue. It worked beautifully! I believe this indicates they have solutions for many other challenging problems. Everyone was exceptionally helpful and kind. read more

Kitchen Department Problems Ordered a Thomasville Nouveau series kitchen through this store recently. Problems included: Kitchen department staff has irregular hours and did not return e-mails promptly, if at all. Very difficult to reach on telephone, if at all. Staff not well-versed in product line. HD seems to have arms-distance relationship with Thomasville. Ordering is done on separate computer system that virtually no one at the store is familiar with. Returning pieces or dealing with accounting problems is never less than a one-hour 'experience' and cannot be done without a store visit. There is a 15% re-stocking charge on returned items that you don't hear about until you are returning. Thomasville is impossible to reach directly. No phone, e-mail, mail address or chat listed on their or HD websites. There is apparently a regional rep assigned to HD stores but he cannot be contacted directly. His e-mail signature touting '5-star Concierge Service' is a misnomer to say the least. The Nouveau series is apparently made in Canada, possibly by a company Thomasville acquired. Product is cheaply constructed with 5/8" 'furniture board' material including shelving, not to be confused with MDF. Upgrading to all-plywood material raises the price significantly. Self-closing door hinges and drawer glides are flimsy. One Nouveau item, still in the catalog and HD computer system, turned out to be discontinued with no recourse or replacement option. This was made known after the order was placed and full kitchen in production. No apologies or substitutions offered. Had to make some unfortunate compromises in the design during installation. I would not suggest ordering overlay appliance panels with this product series - Thomasville/Nouveau is clearly are not equipped to accommodate these although they are offered in the catalog. Delivery of product is difficult and not customer friendly. Broad range of dates is suggested at time of order and then silence. Final date is given at +48 hours of delivery. Special items (apparently from Thomasville subcontractors) simply show up at your doorstep unannounced after long waiting periods. It is sad that HD no longer features Kraft-Maid, which has apparently focused now on Lowes. It is a much better product, more flexible, and the K-M company is a dream to work with directly during ordering, delivery, and post-installation. read more

Home decor/renovation/etc is not my thing. I really couldn't care less if a piece of hardware is "brushed" chrome or "polished" chrome. So, imagine my joy when all the cabinets in the new house were left blank to give the buyer options to customize. Some people may find this prospect very exciting - me, on the other hand, just wants to take a nap and tell someone to pick out something "that looks nice". Home Depot has made selecting cabinet hardware super easy though. The Martha Stewart Living collection is awesome - knobs and pulls that don't look chintzy, but also don't cost over $10 per handle. The display is simple and informative - with SKUs, size, and pricing all displayed, so if something you like isn't available in the store, you can order it online. And this location has had the friendliest employees I've encountered in chain hardware/home improvement stores so far. Everyone said hi! Everyone asked if they could help me with something. I'm glad they were able to recognize my confused facial expressions. Bravo! read more

So it's been awhile since my last review of this place. Though I wasn't seeking a Christmas tree, I set out to look for a pull-out garbage component for my kitchen cabinet. If they'd had a better selection for me to choose from, 5 stars would have been a no-brainer for me. The customer service in this place is honestly the best! Sometimes it feels like a bit of overkill when you pass through nearly every aisle and there's an employee that says "hello how are you?" and asks if you need help finding something. But, I'll never turn down service... ever! Note: Don't come here in a bad mood, because you might be cheered up or even more annoyed by the happy people. Special learning: We live closer to the Home Depot on Lake Cook Road, but with it being around 6pm on a Friday and with the construction on Lake Cook, we headed to Glenview. Staff is not knowledgeable about home improvement or projects which makes going there and asking questions very frustrating. In addition, I would recommend that everyone stay away from using the Home Depot for kitchen remodeling. We started the process before the closing on our new house happened and over a month after the closing finally had countertops. The Project Managers that the HD used (contractors) were hard to get a hold of and frustrating to deal with. The countertop installers put a hole in our wall while installing the countertops. The plumbers came out and were surprised that they had to hook up both a new faucet and cooktop (despite the fact that they were all included in the measurements and interactions with HD/the contractors) so they didn't come prepared (and didn't finish the job). Because we desperately needed our kitchen working, my husband ended up having to hook everything up himself. Oh and although we hooked up the kitchen back in the beginning of Sept, I just got a call THIS WEEK from the contractor asking if they needed to come back to finish the cooktop/faucet job. Seriously??? We have been and will continue to use Lowe's and Ace for our home improvement needs. read more

The employees are usually very helpful and can guide me towards the product that I need. Just like most home depots they have everything that you would need. It's difficult to review a big box store like this, but since I'm currently the regular with the greatest number of check-ins, I feel the tiniest pang of obligation. This is the smaller of the two Home Depots that I frequent. Most of the time, they have what I want, and it's easy to get in and out, and their proximity to Costco also makes for a convenient trip. I've come to the point where I know where most things are, but in the past couple of years, Home Depot corporate has been working hard on their app, making it significantly more stable. The app can tell you ahead of time what products are in the store, and gives you the option of pre-ordering it and picking your items up at the front desk, or seeing the aisle and bin locations for your chosen items of the day, and you can meander through the store and grab what you want yourself, which does present a certain satisfaction. I feel damn rugged when I'm getting stuff at Home Depot, and I don't need to ask anyone's help. Unless I need cable or wood cut, in which case I find someone even more rugged with insurance to handle the things that cut stuff. I've used them before for tool rental as well, most recently a power rodder to take out some tree roots in an irrigation setup. I was particularly rugged that day, complete with water, dirt, and a backache, but they helped teach me how to use the thing without damaging my hands in the process, for which I'm grateful, and able to type this review now. So thank you, Home Depot, for being there for the times I say, "I can do that!" Right or wrong (and I'm usually right, because I know my limitations pretty well) you've always been a decent friend. read more

I wouldn't normally review a chain store, but I wanted to recognize a very special employee who works at this Home Depot store. My husband and I went to the Home Depot in Mount Prospect to order a custom window. After talking with one of their employees in the Millwork department who couldn't answer any of our questions or find what we were looking for, we decided to try a different Home Depot. We ended up at the Glenview Home Depot where we had a completely different experience. Earl greeted us at the desk and started to walk us through the ordering process. There are so many options, but he was able to talk through all them and explain the difference in the options for us. We described our project to him, which made it easier for him to make recommendations. We were there for over an hour, but he was very patient and we never once felt like we were taking up too much of his time. Employees like this are what makes people return to a store. I know I'll be coming back here the next time I need any windows or doors. read more
