Unfortunately, the items I needed in the Home Depot in Orange were not in stock. They sent me to the Hamden store. After spending five minutes looking for someone to help me, I was able to find the items I needed. The store was not in the same clean condition as the one in Orange. I would feel more comfortable shopping in Hamden if there was a security guard or two visible. In view of the increase in crime committed in Hamden, I do believe the store would be doing more business with additional staff. read more

I ordered a dehumidifier online and chose delivery as the local Home Depot didn't have it in stock. I ordered it early in the morning with the expectation of the same-day delivery. Apparently, Home Depot uses DoorDash to deliver their products. The DoorDash driver delivered the dehumidifier to the wrong address(who knows where). I called the one 800 number and was told they couldn't help me and that I needed to call the store responsible for the delivery which was Hamden Connecticut Home Depot. Upon explaining my dilemma, I was told by the customer service representative basically that it's not their problem and I needed to contact DoorDash. I protested, and explained to the young lady because I purchased it through them and they were responsible for delivery. It was up to them to clear the mess up. I then asked to speak to a manager on duty. All of a sudden she couldn't be more helpful deciding to call DoorDash herself. At that point, after speaking to DoorDash, she said that I needed to go on the Home Depot app where I made the purchase and request a refund because one DoorDash makes the delivery they close it and there's nothing they can do. I thanked her and went on the app only to discover I couldn't request a refund on the app. I called the one 800 number again and again was told they couldn't help me that I needed to call the store in Hamden to request the refund. I again called the store and this time I held out for a manager. Once I got a hold of the manager, he also told me he couldn't refund it and that he would have to send a new unit out. At this point time I am still waiting for the unit to arrive. The frustration alone and the time lost dealing with the issue is not a value at all. The same unit could've been purchased elsewhere without the headache and loss of time. I would not recommend a delivery from Home Depot anywhere unless it's a large product such as lumber which would be delivered on an actual Home Depot flatbed truck! read more

I was so happy to hear that Hamden Home Depot had generators when I needed one . I called all over the state and was lucky enough to be told Hamden Home Depot was just receiving a shipment of generators when we needed them!!! I had been meaning to get mine fix, but time got away from me.... and long story short, I needed one ASAP along with many others. Everyone at the store was so helpful and polite. Even the manager took the time to out of her busy job, to help my push this very heavy generator to the register. The store was clean and check out was so fast , I couldn't believe it . We had a delivery scheduled between 2 and 8 pm... can u tell me y at 8:05 we had to call them to check the status of the delivery? It was not until that phone call that they decided to put our delivery on the truck and deliver it to us? When on the phone all we could hear was giggling in the background as if waiting home all day for a delivery they had no intentions of bringing was not a waste of our time. I've spent a lot, and I mean a lot, of money in this (and the North Haven) store. It gets three stars for convenience. I know the store and materials better than most of the employees. I think that's a sad statement on myself, actually. The quality of wood is pretty bad. A lot of the tools they sell are extremely cheapo in build- and I have to admit that some of the younger employees are freakin clueless, they're nice, and I've had some lovely chats- but my time is money folks. So, I usually gravitate to someone a bit older who knows something. If you buy a tool or machine- always open it up to make sure it's not been used and returned. Often it will have missing parts. I always treat the cashiers with respect. Their job is hard. Dealing with often impatient and rude people all day. Not easy. If at all possible I will rather support the Spring Glen Hardware store on Whitney. read more

I have to say, for the most part, the staff at this Home Depot are excellent several days ago. I purchased a sprayer for the lawn and it proved to be defective. I returned it with no problem only to get a second one that also proved to be defective. In the meantime, I lost the receipt and was issued a store credit which I was told could be used to order a sprayer of higher quality that was not carried in the store and that was online. I asked if that ordering could be done in the store and was told no it had to be done online. I went online to try to order the item that I wanted and the website told me that I could not use the store credit online and it had to be used in the store when I called up to talk to somebody at the customer service desk I was greeted with such a rude response and the woman did absolutely nothing for me. I talked to the Assistant or acting store manager, who had no solution to the problem Management at this place is woefully substandard and needs to be retrained the staff in the aisles are superb. read more

We live in a fixer-upper, so we go to this Home Depot so often that they might get worried if they don't see us one day. I know some smaller hardware stores aren't happy about the big box stores, but there's no denying that it is super convenient, with great selection and prices. Only had a few dud items that had to be returned, and returns are never a problem. Even if you lost the receipt, they can look it up if you give them the card you used. Amazon.com still has better prices on a number of things (like power tools), but I've found that you can often bring in a printout of the Amazon price and HD will match it. Win! You get the best price and you get it right now. Sometimes it is hit or miss with the in-store staff of large stores like this. Usually at this HD they are competent and helpful. Though at times I've had to run around trying to find someone just because they can't be everywhere at once in a large store. The new call buttons in the aisles help. I do wish that they wouldn't stop carrying things like Snowblowers in January or February because they are getting ready for spring though. There is still plenty of winter left! Ok I read the reviews above, honestly, I'm in this store at least twice a week for misc. items, is it perfect no, but is any big box store??? customer service is thin, no doubt, do your research go buy your items, don't count on the kid making minimum wage to know every feature of that 2200 dollar Weber grill, dare I say this but I've never had an issue there, in/ out done. I've been working on painting my apartment, and I've been to Home Depot 7-8 times in the last few weeks. I had no trouble finding the things I need, and the staff has always been helpful whenever I've asked them any questions or advice. They have a pretty flexible return policy, the only thing I've bought that's not returnable is the mixed paint. This review is based solely off the tool rental workers. WOW could they be any LESS helpful?? First of all, on the home depot website it specifically says they're knowledable and helpful associates will show you how to use the equipment if you need help. Welp, my husband was asking the guy questions and he answered him with 1 word answers and acted like we were bothering him. DUDE, your job is retail - you know, CUSTOMER SERVICE?? we then rented what we needed by the hr and it took the slow workers 20 minutes to unlock the gate to get the ladder and while my husband was putting things in our truck the lazy useless worker just puts the ladder on the floor and walks away!! no help or even asked if we need any! I'm just appalled. I will be calling and speaking to a manager to complain about those 2 workers and I want an extra half hour of use since it took them 20 minutes to get the equipment out!! terrible terrible terrible read more

I annually spend 5-10000 a year as a contractor at this location, and my chip card stopped working and they would not enter card manually and I could not make needed purchase to complete a $30.00 transaction! Ah, Home Depot. The Wal-Mart of hardware. I have mixed feelings about Home Depot. They are convenient-but a lot of their products are crap. Even the brand name items are often "made for Home Depot" and are not made to the same standards as the regular brand name items. (Google it if you are skeptical.) The staff here is hit and miss too, especially at this store. I'm sure a part of the reason is that it suffers from the same problem as most of the retail outlets on the Magic Mile...being on the bus line with direct access to New Haven. Too many times I found found the staff to be uncaring, uninformed and a few times rude (and yes, if one is rude to me I AM the type of guy that reports it to the manager). I have also purchased an item (it was a grinder) that was clearly used and returned. When I got home and opened the box, the grinder was covered with dust (not light dust from sitting, but grinding residue). When I returned the grinder, telling the associate that I had just purchased it and it appeared used, the associate accused me of using it and returning it. I asked for the manager, who looked at the receipt and realized I had purchased it about 15 minutes earlier and apologized. Now when I buy packaged items there I look to see if they are factory sealed, or if they are not, I check to see if they have been used. Buying lumber there has always been interesting. It takes a while to find pieces without warping, excessive knots or breaks and other imperfections. I do patronize the store, but I generally will restrict my purchases to things I need quickly or cheap. If I need more expensive items that I want to last (like a snowblower or a mower) I'll go to a power equipment store, or if I need something like hardware that is quality, I'll head to Spring Glen Hardware or Goody's in East Haven. read more
