I went to Home Depot in North Plano today, looking for a plumbing part. I had a photo of the item on my phone together with the SKU number. Having walked up and down the aisles umpteen times and not seeing what I was looking for, I asked an elderly employee for help and showed him the picture. He was quick to point out that this was not his department, that the photo details were for central Plano and this was north Plano and that the part that I was looking for would be in the vicinity that I'd been in. I then went to customer service to ask for assistance. A nice young man said he'd get help and to wait in aisle 11. 17 minutes later, my patients got the better of me and I went to Lowes, where I received excellent service, got the part, and found where I'll be shopping for my spring and summer yard. Poor customer service is one thing, but no service is even worse. Home Depot, in todays day and age where online shopping is huge, you need to focus on customer service to bring in the customers or else there will be many more unemployed people out there. read more

I moved into my apartment 9 days ago. I've been to this Home Depot 4 times already. 1st trip was the day after I moved... to get the pieces of the frame for my bed that the idiot movers broke replaced. 2nd trip was to get a new set of screwdrivers. 3rd and 4th trips were to get plywood shelves cut. Can I just say that whoever the idiot was who thought those white metal wire shelves were a good idea in ANY situation, needs to be shot? Yeah, well they do. Especially in pantries. Seriously. Every packet of pudding, jello or yeast I had would fall right down thru the gaps between the wires and land on the ground. During my 4th trip, I also picked up a new shower head and 3 curtan rods. I stopped buying from Home Depot several months ago, and now I remember why. I will never purchase from The Home Depot again, b/c they don't stand behind the products they sell. They basically carry the same products as Lowe's, but Lowe's stands behind their products far more than Home Depot. At the begining of the year, I purchased a house that has all hardwood floors. Around Feb/Mar time frame I bought a Steam Vac for approx. $100, so that i could clean those floors. I threw the receipt and the box away, b/c I liked the product and planned on using it for a long time. Well about a week ago it broke so I tried to take it back and exchange it for another one today, and they said they couldn't do it without a receipt. While a $100 isn't that big of a deal, it's the principle of them not standing behind the products they sell that pisses me off. I'm just glad it wasn't something that cost several hundred dollars. Luckily i bought all my major appliances from Lowe's. IMHO, you are much better off buying anything from Lowe's as opposed to Home Depot. They can look up every purchase you make using their "myLowe'sCard", which is a free card that keeps track of your purchases for situations like mine where you don't have a receipt. I've also never had an issue with them accepting a return on any of their products. I purchased a refrigerator from Lowe's for approx $2,000 when i bought my house, about a week later i went back to the store and all their appliances where on sale. I asked if i could bring my receipt and get the sale price and they said no problem. I ended up returning the fridge I bought and upgraded to a much better one for only about $200 more dollars. Ok so let me start by saying this location maybe be ok for some but today was different for me. I called myself renting a truck for a couple hours with the understand $20 dor the first 75mins and $5 each hours after now I know now I heard or misunderstood the terms bec it turns out I heard Wrong! When I returned the truck I assumed I was over charged $40.. turns out I was billed $20 hr after the first 75mins!.. I called and complained but was transferred several times trying to speak with a manager who could maybe correct my bill..I finally reach Amy or Amanda- after 4 hrs I forgot her name.. Yesterday I bought some wood to make a console project. When I got home I realize that it was to long. So I called Customer Service and spoke to Jason Marks very nice guy. He told me to bring it back with my receipt and he can recut the woods for me. So when I got there I went to customer service and told me to go back and someone will meet me there. On my way to the back an employee approached me with serious looking face. Then he told me that he was Jason lumber supervisor and his the one I spoke on the phone. I thought to myself his this can't be the same guy I spoke to on the phone, but started to loosen up and ask me what I was gonna do with the woods I bought. I told him that I was gonna make console table. So he showed me the projects he did and gave me some tips. I'm very impressed with his knowledge and he was very helpful. Do not order on-line pick-up at this store. The customer service is pathetic. If you like waiting for over an hour while customers that come in after you are taken care of, this is the place for you. Ask for Leah as she will ignore you all night long. I had two order pick-ups in a week and both experiences were absolutely ridiculous. I did on-line survey and asked to be contacted by a manager by e-mail or phone. It's been 3 weeks later and still no contact. Obviously they don't care about their customers. This store has excellent customer service and community support!! I have never had an issue with their staff friendliness and knowledge. Occasionally it is hard to find someone to help but once you do they are always willing. Additionally this store seems to frequently support community with allowing boy scouts and others to do fundraising on their property and supporting local charitable organizations. Tried to return/exchange a $200 tool that has broken. Its 8 months old, and I have the receipt. I am now having to drop my tool off at the Tool rental center, and pay to get it fixed because they only cover their products for 90 days. Home Depot no longer stands behind their products, and my suggestion would be to buy your tools elsewhere. I went in the store to buy a refrigerator. After looking at the floor samples I looked for a sales person. I could not find anyone near the appliances so I went to a clerk in a different area and asked if he could get me some help. He informed me the sales person was in appliances and I needed to go back and look for him. He continued to argue with me finally paged some one to appliances. After a lengthy time I went back to this rude person and he paged the manager. The manager offered no help she just paged the appliance person. The appliance person finally headed back but he had to stop and hold a lengthy chat with another Home Depot employee. I left and informed the manager who again did nothing. This is the most pathetic Home Depot ever. Does anyone even work there? Had to move a massive, metal, very high staircase by myself to look at knobs. No one is to be found for questions about doors. Went in this morning to pick up a delivery. I did not realize that the order read 6pm my fault entirely yes. However when I walked to the door unaware that I was too early, the Manager Kristina informed me that it was not 6. Okay fine but she had a attitude about it big time. Walked up to the door and closed it on my face. Also Yesterday I had another issue with an employee that literally said she worked there for 15 years and hated her job. My thing is this. That's twice I went to the spot and twice got shit service. If you want to spend your money there by all means do so. But this place if you ever need service isn't the place to go. I am a professional luxury home designer who visits paint supply stores few times a week. My usual paint store was out of the selections I needed so I dropped by HD. Jay King, in the paint department is the true definition of great customer service. He goes above and beyond to help everyone with any questions related to paint or anything else in the store. I've witnessed him point customers in the right direction then walking over to check on them and make sure they have found what they were looking for. I must have bugged him with 25 questions and was there for over 2 hours getting my paint. Not once did he seem annoyed to repeat himself or help me find the numerous color swatches I needed. He was very patient with me, extremely professional and so very kind to myself and everyone. He is an asset to the company and because of him, I am purchasing all of my paint from Home Depot now. read more

Clean, orderly Home Depot. Like all the big hardware stores, it can be hard to find something without asking someone, but it usually isn't too hard to find an employee for directions. Employee expertise is hit or miss - sometimes they are really knowledgable and sometimes they don't know what the word "irrigation" means and type it into their handheld computer as "errigaton". Sometimes the teen employees tell you gardening gloves are the latex cleaning gloves... and block the doorway outside for 5 min because they were to lazy to stack chairs properly on the dolly and now they are falling over... Generally a pretty good hardware shopping experience and my go-to based on proximity to my house. Wish they had kiosks to look up the location of specific items, and also wish some of the employees had more experience in their area (lighting, hardware, irrigation, etc) but you can ask around if you get an ignoramus and usually find someone who knows more. read more

Worst customer service ever! To change the delivery address on a heavy appliance delivery took TWENTY attempts to get it done!!!! The appliance was bought on May 29th with delivery on June 27th; today's July 3rd already...now delivery is until July 9th. I & my daughter on separate occasions kept in contact with the Service Delivery Manager(s) & her subordinates in person AND by phone at the Store. The Delivery Company couldn't get it straight either, they were just as incompetent. The last employee contacted in person today was the same person that sold us the appliance AND who FINALLY got the issue resolved. read more

I typically wouldn't bother writing a review for a chain store, because for most people, you either shop there or you don't. However, I felt my experience at this Home Depot location was worth noting. Specifically, my family and I just moved into a newly remodeled house, and there were a handful of things the previous owner had done that we didn't want to keep. On top of needing to buy the parts themselves, I also needed to pick up a new power drill after my last one bit the dust. I did my research and narrowed the field down to about three drills that I wanted to check out in person. Lowe's sends out a ton of coupons if you move or set up mail forwarding so I stopped there first, but left after the sales guy finally took a break from complaining to his buddy that he was mad because he couldn't get on disability because he was "tired of doing this s#%*t", only to try and steer me away from what I was looking at to go look at the Kobalt (Lowe's brand) tools instead. Yeah, no thanks. After a quick check of Home Depot's website to find the exact aisle/bin I needed to look for to avoid another awkward stop n' chat, I left and headed over there. Within a few minutes of comparing models on the drill aisle at HD, I saw a sales guy rounding the corner and thought "oh great, here we go again." However, it turned out he was only coming to tell the that I missed an endcap display that had the same drill I was looking at plus a hard case and two batteries for less than the bare model. He could've just as easily walked on by and let me spend more money than I had to (or tried to upsell me or push me towards one of their house brands), but little gestures like that go a long way and are instrumental in building long term customer relationships.
