In my hometown in Kentucky there are very few places to purchase plants. The big box stores are about it. So when walked into Calloway's today I was mesmerized!!!!! So much to see!!!! I was mainly interested in looking at houseplants. Just a huge, lovely healthy variety of ferns, succulents, cacti, aroids, Hoya,...... everything from tiny 2 inch pots of " string of pearls" CUTE!! to gorgeous baskets of philodendron "Brazil".. all the plants appeared very healthy and lush. My brother in law was looking for landscape bushes, and found a nice selection as well. My mother in law was searching for a colorful hanging basket... BINGO!!! I could have spent hours there!!!! Leave yourself plenty of time to browse around. I thought prices were pretty reasonable. Saw lots of nice Pink Princess philodendrons in 4" pots for 19.00.... Not bad at all!! The selection of ceramic and terra cotta pots was outstanding as well. The young gentleman who checked us out was very courteous. read more

This nursery is the closest one to our house and I've been several times over the years, but moving forward I will avoid this place as much as possible. During my last visit I went in to buy some rooting hormone because I have a plant I want to do a cutting of. While there I asked the woman at the register for some advice and best practices and she told me to Google it. It was incredibly rude and entirely unhelpful. I realize employees can't expect to have the answer to every single question, but admitting lack of knowledge and offering to find someone who might know would have been a better course of action. read more

As a fairly new resident and homeowner who is looking to spend a decent amount creating new garden spaces, I was hopeful that I would find a go-to nursery in town to find unique and quality plants. Unfortunately after many trips here, I noticed that every single person working was more interested in talking on their personal cell phones or just walking around - not willing to help look for certain plants. No one even acknowledges you when you walk in! It's a complete bummer that this store is not only overpriced, but that the workers are not helpful. We will be taking our money elsewhere. read more

This what I like about Calloways.....they have a knowledgable staff. You can ask them whatever question about plant food to what is the most heartiest. If they don't know the answer they will find another associate that does. The selection of the store is seasonal and sometimes it is more expensive than Lowe's or Home Depot. Avoid this location. Terrible customer service, unfriendly and unhelpful employees. For the higher prices they charge you'd at least expect a customer friendly environment. - Registers are run by untrained young kids with zero customer service skills. Slow, no energy, they do not say thank you to any of the customers, they don't try to help, etc. - Older gentlemen with three carts in line ahead of me. Instead of helping the man move his carts forward until a helper that was called came forward to take his carts out, the staff all stood there and did nothing making everyone else wait. Customers came forward to move the carts forward for the guy while employees just stood and stared with no expressions. They couldn't have cared less. - Was overcharged. I double checked my ticket when I loaded my plants in my car as it seemed a little high, and sure enough was over charged. Went back in and caught the eye of the girl who checked me out and told her, and she had no reaction. Just turned and started helping the next person in line. I had no choice but to get in line and wait again. I finally caught the eye of someone else - told them I was overcharged and got her to help me. She validated I was overcharged and helped me at a side register. No apology from her or the original checker who looked over and said nothing. Perhaps they are running a scam to overcharge customers periodically. It's not normal not to apologize to a customer for an error. - As I was about to leave I watched the original checker clean off all the dirt on their checkout counter by sweeping it off into the walkway where customers stand ( instead of maybe into a bucket they keep behind the counter or something). Tried to call the manager instead if posting, but no one answered the phone. Unbelievable. I thought I'd give this place a try but never again. Apparently they don't want to be in business much longer. Go to Shades of Green or other nurseries in the area, not one who treats their customers like manure. If they want to stay in business, a new manager should be brought in that knows how to run a business and can properly train their staff to be cheerful, energetic and helpful to customers. read more

I love this location! The staff is always so friendly and helpful. They know a lot if you ever need to ask questions! They have a wide variety of plants and materials (pottery etc). It's very relaxing to walk around a browse the selection, especially with the classical music playing. Will continue to be a customer! read more

Come here any time of day and you'll see there is always a long line to check out! It moves quick though, so don't let it deter you. The plant selection here is amazing. Colors of flowers that you didn't know existed! And so many things you didn't know was even around. I come here often when I'm looking for anything for my outdoor space, whether it be a new pot or new flowers. They're one of the best spots int he area for the healthiest plants and they have everything you would need to build n amazing outdoor space. read more

I also asked about some specific plants that I enjoy growing and he arranged to have them brought in so I could buy them - excellent service!! This location is incredible. I thought the prices were very reasonable, especially on pots, and the selection was great. I selected this location because I had seen a plant but nobody could tell me what it was. 30 seconds in Calloway's and Evan told me exactly what it was. I had several other questions and Evan provided expeceptional and knowledgeable answers. What a great experience. If you want a place that knows their stuff, this is the place to go. They have really nice plants, but it's SO expensive compared to Home Depot or Lowes. You could probably get twice as much for your money at one of the other stores. The people are real friendly and knowledgeable. Store is always very neat and grounds look great. I may be a cheap-o, but I just can't affored that place. read more

You definitely get what you pay for. Some people can't justify spending $2,000 on an Apple computer when there are Dells for $800. It's all about what you value. My wife and I met Mark, the current manager, at a city workshop about landscaping. He was friendly and super-knowledgeable, so we ended up going to Calloway's for the first time just to benefit from more of his advice. Yes, Calloway's is more expensive. If you already know what you want, and Lowe's carries it, you'll probably be just fine going to Lowe's. I can't speak for the quality of the plants from one to the other. What I can say is that the thing that impressed me about this Calloway's location, and Mark, is that he was perfectly honest about what would and would not grow in this area. He actually steered us away from plants that were going to fail and towards (sometimes less expensive) plants that would do better. That's called "building a long-term and honest relationship", and it's something you don't get too often. We get personal service. The staff invests a lot of time in us, not matter what we spend. The place is clean, organized and beautiful. There usually aren't a throng of people like at a home improvement center, so it's quieter and more relaxed. Pleasant environment! Vast amount of colorful plants, creative displays and healthy herbs to choose from. They are so well organized. I ended up buying an extra plant not on my list. They have wonderful variety bundles for potted plants. Whether looking for a gift or something for your garden, they aim to please! I didn't ask for assistance because I found all my needs met. Sunday, June 15 2014, 30% Discount Challenge: I received VERY POOR service from the McKinney (El Dorado Pkwy) location. Someone in a regional management job role should have all employees at this store location take a customer centric/customer service skills training class. The number one reason why a consumer returns to a store is because of the SERVICE, not the price..anyone can lower prices to get customers in the door, but the Customer Experience is what keeps them coming back time and time again. To start I missed the baskets as I walked in, when I asked where the baskets were the employee at the register in shades (?) simply pointed - No words. Second, I asked another employee also at the register if I could ask her a quick question after all there was not a customer standing there, She immediately said she was already helping a customer and that I should "Find someone watering plants toward the back". Really? My question was regarding the different types of fertilizer/plant food which was close to the register area, not outside. She did not even attempt to ask exactly what my question was pertaining to. Third, during checkout I was back at the same register, same employee with shades (?) on - No greeting of "hello" - Nothing. I had to tell him I was suppose to get 30% discount after he was about to charge me the incorrect price for my items. There was no apology or sign of empathy on his part. I then had to ASK for plant boxes or paper to line my vehicle. As I left there was NO THANK YOU or even Have a Nice Day. WOW - What a memorable Customer Experience. I will not be returning this location....and it is the closest one to my home! read more

Limited stock and poor service. I called them looking for a specific shrub and was told they would be getting them in at 6:00PM I asked them if they would be available for sale at 6:00 and was told that they would be. This was after calling other Calloways who had this shrub in stock but was further away. So, at 6:00 I arrived only to be told that the gardener working there was suppose to pick the inventory up from another Calloways but didn't get around to it. Since they close at 7:00 I waited until the next day to call the other Calloways only to find out that the stock was sold out. I called them back to see if they got them in and was told no. I could have gone to another Calloways that day but now I cannot find what I was looking for because all Calloways are sold out. read more

The staff have been courteous and helpful 100% of the time. They are very knowledgeable, prices are fair, and I enjoy the email notices of current discounts offered, in addition to upcoming events. Like Calloways but today went to this one...they were not friendly or helpful at all. We hav always gone to the one in little elm or the one on sh121 and hav always been helped by friendly staff. Today we bought almost $100 of plants and had to go it alone...there were several staff members walking around but no one offered any help. Very disappointed. ..guess we will stick to the other stores. Actually had to go to Lowe's and Walmart to get all the pepper plants we wanted. read more

They always offer great advise and make wonderful suggestions on which plants work well with my landscape problem areas. This year my yard and flower beds look better than they ever have thanks to this amazing staff and the wonderful selection of plants at this location.
