Stupid! What a ridiculous process The Home Depot has for renting vans. Nothing is guaranteed about your reservation until you receive an email 4 hours before your schedule pickup of the rental. Huh? Really? You don't know if any Vans will be available. How does this make sense? No other company does this. You either know that the equipment will be available or not. Wow! BUYER BEWARE do not order from Home Depot online. delivery dates are fictitious to get you to order. ordered patio set with delivery date of April 17( actual not estimate) received email stating it was in transit and item did not arrive. Now nightmare begins, spent last three days on phone for hours. No way to track item or contact shipper. No way to cancel item as on April 17 received an email that said " item in transit " despite it actually not being in transit this allows Home Depot to tel you that the Item is already shipped so to cancel you have to fill out a long form( their words) and it takes up to 30 days for a refund. according to Home Depot they have no way to track your order and the shipments despite every other company in Canada that can track your order! so waiting daily for a 2000 patio set to arrive. hours on phone and daily a different story, online call in centre constantly deflecting , email from head office stating they would call but no one did. Told item ships from Calgary today told it ships from Surrey. home Depot has a whole team they pay to give customers the run around. Oh they did offer me 50 for the inconvenience and then upped it to 125. However I am out 600 for a flight I had to reschedule, three days of stress and my time . That is an insult I would never order from Home Depot again, many other companies that have a way to ship on time, track shipments and are honest with their customers. Home Depot is a huge chain stores. You always can get what you need at there. They always have some staffs on the floor to help out the customers, however, they're not all knowledgeable and helpful. Richmond location is busy all the time and out of stocks for common items sometime. We wanted DIY for screen window and tried to buy screen frame, screen locks, repair kit, spline and etc... However, it's out of stocks. Therefore, we have to go other store to get it. read more

Robin M. is right in the way that Home Depot isn't where you'd go for premium or niche products. But if you're looking to get something functional on the (somewhat) cheap, this is the place to go. And they're damn good at it. 90% of the time they have exactly what i need. Parking is ALWAYS plentiful at all Home Depots. This is worth a special mention, as other chains don't seem to understand this too well. *looks at Canadian Tire* The staff, even though not the highest-paid I'm sure, are very friendly and 80% knowledgeable. I just wish they'd put a few more on the floor. Sometimes you're stuck waiting 10 minutes just to ask a 1-line question. Another special mention is their hours. I have to say, I shop is this Home Depot quite a lot. As well, I find their staff very friendly and best of all the things here are cheaper than say its competitor. You can do one trip and get what you need. The place is huge and quite clean. But again it is Home Depot and it should be like. The store is bright. I noticed that this store is becoming more and more like a one place to shop to get all your needs. I even found detergent at Home Depot. 10 years ago, you con't find stuff like that. They also carry pretty high tech items. Like themostate control by your phone, Wemo etc. I like this homedepot. Best part is they will also email you a receipt after purchase. Don't worry about loosing your receipt if ever you need to return something. read more

Great place to buy plants! Stopped in today to grab some gravel for potting plants and discovered that Home Depot is a hidden gem for indoor gardeners! I've always loved hardware stores like this for outdoor gardening, but haven't thought of them as go-tos for succulents, tropicals, and other indoor plants before. It turns out that this location has a great and very cheaply priced selection of aloes, jade plants, pepperomias, and even larger plants like palms and dracaenas. They also have a great variety of pots, potting soils, and plant foods! I bought a gorgeous palm for 19.99, and I'm sure I'll be back for more at a later date! read more

I came for two things, garden soil and a cement deck block. Originally, I stood in the wrong line (COVID-19) to enter the store, but an Home Depot employee told me both things I wanted would be in the garden section. While standing in the garden section line, another employee ran over and asked who was looking for deck blocks and when I indentified myself, he told me they were sold out and wanted to make sure I didn't wait in line for nothing or spend a lot of time looking. I continued on to get the soil. I was impressed they went to the trouble to prevent me wasting my time. read more

I require adult supervision while in Home Depot. No no... not for the reason you're thinking. I don't get lost, I don't break things, I don't cluelessly wander the aisles: My name is Jody B, and i'm addicted to buying tools I don't need. This place is my adult equivalent to Toys R Us. 30 seconds in the door and i've decided that I need a new lamp, then I need to paint the coffee table to match the new lamp, and of course, i'll need a new power sander to sand DOWN the coffee table for the new paint job... it's a dangerous spiral. Last week, I was having a bad day and went to buy drill bits. Some girls buy shoes... (the bits were to fix a bookshelf that currently holds my shoes, but that's neither here nor there.) I frequent this particular location a lot. Thankfully, work crafting takes the edge off of frivolous personal spending as I always seem to need something new in the land of constant events and marketing booths. This is a pretty darn standard Home Depot. It has your paints. It has your tools, storage & lighting. It has the same crappy pop up tents that die within one afternoon (honest to god, just don't bother.) It's got a fine collection of plants I could kill within a week... On many fronts, it should be a no brainer. Except when it isn't. The service, when you can find it, is lovely. However, I feel like i'm constantly trying to hunt someone down, or hopping behind another customer, waiting to chat with someone. The selection is ok... except when you need say, 80ft of green outdoor carpet. Then you have to drive to Coquitlam (which is the Cadillac of Home Depots, FYI). But my biggest pet peeve, is that when I painstakingly research something online, check to see if it's in stock and drive down - 9 times out of 10 they don't have it and send me to... you guessed it, the Coquitlam store. I've even tried calling ahead, but they are going off the same inventory that's online and honey - somethings wonky with that system. How you misplace 6 pop up tents is beyond me... So don't stray away from this place - it's really quite a normal Home Depot and is full of all that good Home Depot'ing stuff but do go in with your eyes wide open and expect things to be a bit hit or miss. Do you want it to be cheap? Or do you want it to work? Pick one. Actually, you can only pick cheap. Working is optional. Home Depot often sells articles really, really cheap, but sometimes they don't actually work at all. Some of my past examples: - garden trowel. $3.99. bent after 1 hr of light gardening. - stud finder. $9.99. never found one stud behind drywall. - 3 padlocks on 6' cables. $18.99. 2 of the included keys broke in my hands (plastic handle is too weak) within 2 weeks. They had more expensive locks, but their cables were too short, so I had no real choice. Often, the really cheap price means it's hardly worth taking an hour to return the thing. With the locks, I tried warning the associate and, was first argued that I was using it wrong, then told headquarters never listens to shop staff, then told "people want the cheapest". No, people want things that work. What I didn't get any impression is that they'll take my complaint seriously and stop carrying that item. Another time I rented a powerwasher. Hose coupling was broken, so returned, swapped for another. Home again - same exact problem. Return, ask for refund and had to wait for 45 minutes because only a manager could issue a refund. Buy carefully: if you buy a Makita drill, chances are it's still trustworthy. But even name brands are pressured by HD's huge buying power to issue special HD-only product lines that are cheaper, but not as good. (note: on the positive side, getting hold of an associate is less difficult here than it used to be. unfortunately, that does nothing for the quality of what's sold) HD is often, not always, a waste of time and unfortunately these jokers have put many better retailers out of business. read more

I want to start by saying most Home Depot employees are very good and pleasant to deal with, however, they need to review their own company policies. I went to the Burnaby store to exchange a defective item. They gave me a refund instead. I told the Mgr clerk I wanted the item for the same sale price of $19.49. ( I am purposely not giving you the item SKU or description) . The Mgr clerk assured me he would match the price just to bring the item back to the customer serve counter. Unfortunately for me they were out of stock. However when the clerk did his store inventory search it showed the price of $7.50 ea. Thus I asked which store has them in stock I will go to that store to buy the item, he said the Terminal Dr. store has 6 in stock. I double check back at the customer service desk, I talk to the same Mgr. about getting that price. He assured me that the other Home Depot will match . He even went as far as calling the other Home Depot to ask them. He asked for my phone number because they would call me back to confirm. On the drive to the Terminal Dr store , they called me to advise me that they were out of stock, although their computer showed they had six in stock. They went on to tell me I could not order on line and that they would adjust the inventory to show ZERO! My friend who was with me, said, " let's go down to Terminal Dr. store to check anyways" . We get to the Terminal Home Depot and found someone in tools and asked for the item. We had a picture of the Bby Depot computer screen. Everything they needed was there to find the item. Their computer said they were out of stock. This employee also went out of his way and said maybe it's a mistake let's look in the upper shelves. All three of us spent 10 - 15 min. looking in the upper shelves. I even said " the original one I bought was in the middle isle." He responded we are out of stock so it can't be there. At this point I said I am getting tired of this, I will look in the middle isle and go home. As I was paying for something else at the self check out , my friend said will be back I just want to look at something. As I was making my purchase, my friend comes back with THREE of those out of stock items! We scan the item and of course it comes up $19.49. At this point I am frustrated and call the clerk to the self check out. I explain the situation with Bby store and show her the picture of the item at $7.50 ea. She calls the head cashier over. I explain the situation and show her the picture. I expanded the picture to see the same SKU etc. She started to tell us the store policy, as I try to explain what the other mgr. told me, she rudely interrupted me, and said " If you let me finish , I will make an exception this one time and give them to you for $7.50 ea. We do not match clearance prices from other Home Depot stores." Then I said " You need to take that up with the other manager, not me" It seems to me that each Depot seem to have different policies. Plus employee don't know their own policies. Last time I checked that both stores, have the same name on the front of the building. I wonder if the one manager really will take the time to call the other mgr. Please properly train staff on company policy. It is frustrating when dealing with 2 home depot stores I frequent. Made an online order and shipped to this store. Prior to purchase I had called to ensure they would be able to make a cut in the wood counter top I wanted to purchase. Intended to use it as a desktop, but just needed to cut some off the length. The woman on the phone confirmed it would be no issue so I went ahead with the purchase. Over 4 weeks later (not this stores fault specifically), it arrived and when I went to pick it up, I was told they will not cut it for me. Had to return it right there after over 4 weeks of waiting to start my project due to the inconsistency of information. read more

I was just in to get three light bulbs and went to the cashier Lily which she asked me $20 off if you get the Home Depot MasterCard. I said no the interest payments are too high. She then insisted if you pay on time like I do you don't have to worry. I said no and many people do not pay on time btw. She said most people pay on time and if you get the card you pay on time you don't have to worry about the interest rates. I said no I don't like credit cards and I have a mortgage to pay. I thought my mission would be a simple one...all I needed was dirt...how complicated could it be to buy dirt..right?? Well it was much complicated then I thought...but thankfully the helpful staff of Home Depot was there to help! I was wondering aimlessly through the garden department looking at all the types of soil...like I said I had NO idea that there was like 20 different kinds...I must have looked pretty confused because out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of an orange smock coming towards me. Her- "what are you planting"?? Me - "oh..umm..just some herbs and some wild grasses..maybe some succulents"? Her - "well then, you are going to need a few types of soil. You will defiantly need something more organic and natural for the herbs, since you will be eating them. The grasses can have something pretty basic, as can the succulents. Actually, depending on what you are plants the succulents in, you could use just small rocks. What types of fertilizer are you using?? Mushrooms are great...." me- "ummm..ok"..*blink *blink her - "how about you tell me your budget, the planter sizes and I will bring you what you need" me - "perfect, awesome..thank you" And so..off she went and in a flash I had a cart full of soil and all the all my planting needs. She shared a lot of useful tips on planting and care for all my plants to ensure there best care. I now have thriving happy plants thanks to her! read more

I came here with my landlord for a spot of carpet shopping - super exciting, I know! The store has the typically warehouse-esque feeling of most Home Depots, but luckily Landlord knew where he was going. We made a beeline for the carpet section and perused. They have many, many carpet samples here but we were looking for a quick install, which narrowed it down. We browsed small squares of a multitude of shades of beige, and eventually picked one that can best be described as "beigey with a hint of beige" but was named something like Lunar Eclipse. No, I don't know either! Carpet names are like paint names: hilarious and irrelevant! We found a staff member who passed us on to another staff member who was quite helpful and efficient. She got the paperwork done relatively quickly, although it was understandably a little confusing for them as Landlord was buying and I was the contact. I can't imagine it's the first time that's happened, though! She then asked us which underlay we wanted; she provided minimal help choosing despite our utter lack of knowledge, but said our choice was a good one, so that's something, I guess? A woman then came to measure the space; she was crazy fast and apologised for any inconvenience (there was none!) Then told me that someone would be in touch within 48hrs to book the appointment. It was more like 3/4 days but that's ok. Overall the experience has been efficient and relatively easy for me as the carpet recipient and not the buyer! The folks are coming tomorrow to fit the carpet, and I have high hopes that it'll work out just dandy! Unless the two shades of beige carpet clash... Stay tuned! read more

This Home Depot lost the key I gave them to copy!! Yes this actually happened. I gave their employee a key to copy and instructed him to make two copies. I asked him if I could do little in-store shopping and come back in 10 minutes. "yes yes no problem" he said. When I returned 10 minutes later to pick up my keys he said " I lost your key" He said that he had dropped the key and that it had bounced behind his bench and he could not find it. To make matters worse, he lost the key before making any copies!! This was a major pain as I was locked out of my shop and it was 6 P.M. Management gave me no compensation or assistance in resolving this!! read more

Home Depot is as Home Depot does. Big. Clunky. Filled with tacky accessories (what, you thought this was only a building-supply chain?). This is not a place that any serious craftsperson would come for supplies -- not the finer ones anyway -- rather, this is the place one might come if they need a new shower head, or crappy lumber for an odd household job, or maybe even a rinky-dink playhouse for the kid. But this is no fine-finishing kind of store. So why do I come here? Glue guns, paint brushes, sandpaper, garden supplies, and those awesome paint samples -- those things are pretty much perfect for any number of crafts (yes, I said crafts). For real, check my closet -- I got huns of those colourful paper chips. So, while the orange aproned folks may not be as useful as they once were (years and years ago when they were all retired handypeople of sorts), I still like it here. Worst location in greater Vancouver. There is nobody around any time to help. When you find someone they have major attitude. No smiles, no thank yous, no your welcomes - just sour faces. Some of them are down right confrontational and rude! This is the general managers fault for creating an atmosphere of mistrust and laziness. For someone that does not own a home to improve, I have found myself here fairly often as of late. I like that I can get to this type of store without having to travel deep into the suburbs. Even if I know exactly what I need, I find it tricky to find it most times. The service here seems to be hit or miss... so sometimes I have some great help in my search.... other times I am left to my own devices. Note: maybe bring snacks with you in case you get lost, this store is pretty big. They seem to carry all the things the handyman in you needs to do whatever project your significant other has written down on the to do list. Plus some really random stuff that feels like it doesn't belong. You can do it. And they can sometimes help if you catch the right person on the right day. read more

Was in the market for a 2pack milwaukee tape measure promo. Online said they had stock but I couldnt find it anywhere instore so i approached one of the staff ( some indian guy with a really thick accent) for assistance. he literally blew by me and told me he was busy. 2 seconds later a Filipino lady staff worker was walking towards me and i asked her about the promo. She basically shushed me, called on the radio for someone to come to hardware and took off. Nobody came. I went through 4 more staff members before FINALLY getting this chinese lady (Emily in hardware) who provided me with an answer on why i couldnt find this promo. She was very knowledgeable and knew right away that she didnt have anything in stock. I as slightly disappointed but understood that online information isnt always accurate and assumed she would refer me to another store location. She made my day though by voluntarily honouring the promo...i didnt have to hustle or ask. To be honest i would avoid this location like a pleague but ill give it a second chance only because Emily works there. BIG star for her....zero stars for the rest of the store read more

I hate to think about how many $ we have dropped at the Home Depot (and their former more upscale home specialty centers, Expo Design Center) over the years. For the most part our experiences have been good, even at this location. First of all, I feel kind of lucky to have a Home Depot as close as this without having to travel to the 'burbs. You have to love a large FREE parking lot (what's up with you Cambie location?). I also always seem to be able to find someone in an orange apron to answer questions or offer assistance. The only problem we have had here involved a special order of custom wooden plantation shutters for our house. Home Depot failed to submit the order to the manufacturer which caused a delay of 6 weeks. They then hired a hack to install them. If the story ended there I would be writing a one star review, but it doesn't. The store manager intervened and brought in the shutter company's top installer to reinstall our shutters and then gave me a 50% refund. The refund amounted to many thousands of dollars so it was not just a superficial gesture. You won't find a broad spectrum of high-end finishings here, but for the average Joe with average needs, it will do just fine. read more

I am normally happy with the key cutting here, as opposed to that other place I stubbornly keep going to. No, I don't have that many keys to cut, but when I do, I stupidly go to the place where the woman can't tell if the key she cut is right because she admits she can't see that well. Thanks. So we waited a while for a guy to show up to the key cutting booth. When the workerbee came, another customer followed him and continued to ask him questions. I agree with Allen W. on this location being one of the worst experiences ever. Had to pick up four rubber gaskets for a washing machine hot and cold water hose and thought that it would be in the appropriate aisle such as the plumbing area seeing that it is of water relation to my needs. Mass confusion on the staffs part!!!! First I went into the plumbing aisle and realized that it was only the sink and faucet area and not the appliance area so when in doubt ask someone. Sadly no one was around to help and after some looking around a lady who worked there told me to talk to the guy in the exact same aisle I was just in but seeing that he had three other customers ahead of me I opted to look for help from someone who was free. Off to the appliance aisle but the guy there sent me back to the same area. Frustration mounting severely!!!! Luck behold one of the staff found me and asked if I needed help and I needed a high pressure gasket but he said they are all generic. How can a sink faucet gasket be the same as a washing machine one? Got two packs of gaskets and told the wife we are paying and then getting the hell out of here and thought the self check out would be faster seeing that I actually had cash for once. Went to the self checkout and the screen reads "this machine is not accepting cash at this time" Went back in the regular line and the cashier tells me to go in the self checkout line because it would be faster. Okay, having two self serve lines that don't take cash is just terrible. This location bites, from the bunk checkout tills, weird ass road you have to turn into to get to the store, and their wet shopping carts. Won't be back. read more

Le Depot de Home Not sure why but when I think Home Depot I always switch it around french style. No this has nothing to do with my review but thought I would share nonetheless. Now for my review... Le Depot de Home is solid and we always find what we're looking for. Today it was water filters and clock timers. As per usual, there were many staff available to guide us through the maze and today must have been special because there were two, count them, TWO people to greet us as we entered! I have to say, that might have resulted in one less star mainly because unless you're a restaurant or my cat I see no purpose for "greeters" anywhere...The Gap, The Depot de Home, American Eagle. No, i don't find it "welcoming", i find it disingenuous at best and creepy at worst. So get rid of it people. We aren't showing up here to make new friends, and if we were, do you really want to encourage that!?!? read more
