We stopped here while on the road and it was the perfect place to grab a couple of burgers for lunch. The service was great and people were so nice. The decor and vibe are great for the area....it has that ranch, Missouri vibe. The only reason I am only giving 3 stars is that our burger buns were soggy and way too thin for the amazing quality beef patty and the fries were cold and "eh" -- maybe the sweet potato fries would be better? The beef patty was cooked perfectly and so juicy and thick. I'm positive our amazing server would have fixed these issues had we asked but we were tired and just wanted to get back on the road. Been going to the hoof for several years because they have great food but today in particular the cook forgot our ticket. We sat and sat and there were only 2 other tables in the whole place. Sat and listened to the waitress tell another table loudly about her new vehicle purchase when I felt after a half an hour maybe she should have checking where our medium rare steaks were. She came by and asked if we were doing okay and my husband and I both asked why it was taking so long and her response was "I guess he didn't see your ticket" she guesses? Finally get our food and they both came with undercooked sweet potatoes and I specifically asked when I was ordering if they have sweet potatoes today. Her reply was yes. So when I got her attention and told her it was hard and undercooked I said if they have regular baked I'd take that instead. Then we were told the morning cook forgot to put them in this am. My reply was "I guess people are forgetting a lot around here today." Got the baked potato w only butter because I asked for my sweet potato w only butter no brown sugar so then her next time by I asked for it. She was then slamming things behind the counter where we were sitting and sighing heavily and at one point caught her apron on something and yelled out. Just not a pleasant experience and I just got in from Iowa today and was super excited to go to the hoof. Not so much anymore. read more

Second time we have been here and both times have loved it. Had a grilled tenderloin and it was seasoned perfectly and had a a little char on it. I added grilled onion, mushroom and Swiss. Also had their onion rings. Husband had grilled ham and cheese and fries. Everything is great. read more

I'm giving four stars kind of reluctantly. Reason The steak was said to be aged 40 days and I have had plenty of age steaks before. It was not aged 40 days ! The steak was still good. It came with a soft shell crab. Which was very good. The sides were good. Would I come back to this restaurant yes I would. The only disappointing was do not advertised 40 day age steaks. If you do really age your steaks that long please use a different method. Apparently they're not aged in a salt room. This is how steaks are aged. read more

It's a bit out of the way in Madison Missouri. I've never been there that there hasn't been business but it's much slower and cozier on a week night. They have prime rib on Fridays and Saturdays after five and it is wild and crazy. For good reason. They do some of the best steaks and prime rib I've ever had. read more

The food is always fantastic. We are lucky enough live in town with the hoof. During the truly trying times of vivid we order out there on a regular basis even though we are fantastic cooks. We had heard good things about the Hoof. So, I expected a high quality meal when the wife and I went out last night. We were a bit disappointed. The wife ordered shrimp and I ordered the Black Angus ribeye steak. When our meals arrived, I recognized the steak was a sirloin and not a ribeye. I raised registered Angus cattle for many years and am used to eating high quality beef. This steak was not restaurant quality. This steak was not prime grade, not even choice. It was select grade at best. I could have purchased this cut of beef from any common grocery store meat case. The steak was tough and relatively tasteless. I saw a neighboring table received tenderloin sandwiches and wished I could trade with them. I will add that the salad, onion rings and sweet tea was very good. I suspect they ran out of ribeye and thought they could pass off the sirloin. These steaks don't look alike or even taste the same when the cuts are prime grade. Am surprised a rural restaurant would try to pull that switch, as many of the clientele are farm folks. read more

What a gem of a restaurant! The decor is playful, with lots of decorations that pay homage to cattle country and local flair. I loved their back bar and could definitely see myself hanging out there to get a drink or two. I was passing through on a school related trip and our field trip group of 14 stopped in here for lunch. Our service was impeccable. The two waitresses were so accommodating and attentive to our party and quick to give recommendations if asked. I had the catfish and fries. I thought the catfish was pretty good. I liked the breading they fried it in and their fries are hand cut and delicious. The prices were really reasonable and the portions were generous. They had smaller plate options for some of their menu items, like a smaller burger and chicken strip plate. If I am ever passing through here again I will definitely stop in and try some more of their items. read more

Wow! This place is amazing! You can't go wrong here! The place is very quaint. The owner was there helping and talking to his guests. The wait staff were top notch. Elicia was excellent. She took care of all of her guests timely and smiled the entire time. The quality and quantity of the food is top notch. There's hand cut fries, homemade croutons and house ranch dressing! Our waitress heard it was our anniversary so she brought us a piece of Oreo cheesecake! Please stop in and enjoy! While traveling through Missouri we stopped in to get a steak after reading the reviews. Great location right off hwy 24. The Hoof did not disappoint. We got the filet & shrimp special & prime rib. Filet was seasoned well and cooked just right. The 14 oz prime rib was a thick cut & had excellent flavor. The garlic creamed potatoes were by far the best au gratin potatoes I've ever had at a restaurant! Great dessert and service. Would frequent this place weekly, if not more, if we lived nearby! read more

The food deserves 4 stars but unfortunately the service is lacking. It seems like the waitstaff is extremely inexperienced and without proper training. The atmosphere is family friendly and the restaurant is clean. Portion sizes are great especially if you want to take some home for lunch the next day.It's still worth checking out because you might get lucky and get good service. We still go if we know we have time to kill. read more

Had dinner here for the first time. It was busy and yet we were seated right away, service was quick and the food was fantastic. We chose steak salad, prime rib and a ribeye steak. Everything was great. Kenzie was our server and she was on the ball! We could not of asked for better service. We will definitely be back. Wish we hadn't of waited so long to try it. read more

We have driven by several times on our way to visit family. Always say "we need to try this place." We are food nerds that moved from Vegas to Mid-MO. Always looking for something new. We love the little tucked away "greasy spoon". This was not a greasy spoon!!! The menu, although small, was filled with good food made with quality ingredients. Fried pickle appetizer, nothing special, they were fried pickles. I got the burger, perfectly cooked, the lettuce, and tomato was fresh and crisp. Husband ordered the grilled pork tenderloin, it was pounded out to the perfect thickness and was so big he cut it in half and made a double stack of the thing! My son (17) order the ribeye sandwich, cooked perfect!!!! He said the meat had great flavor and texture. THE FRIES!!! Fresh cut, seasoned to perfection. Definitely a highlight for me!!!! The food is excellent. Just don't go on a Saturday night or you will be waiting for a table. It is split into three separate areas. The isn't cheap but it is good. They also have daily specials at noon. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the wait on Saturday nights. read more

Went to this restaurant on a Tuesday night. A decent sized crowd for such a small town. My Dad and his wife had a steak and loved it. I had the pork chop which was a very generous cut, the baked potato was well prepared and lots of toppings available. The food was exceptionally good and the service was great.
