Just discovered this hidden gem!! Good food and nice chill atmosphere!! And nice people!!

The best word that comes to mind is unmemorable. The atmosphere is genuinely nice for a bar: industrial with exposed brick and those garage doors that give it a cool, open vibe. It reminded me a lot of Gasoline Street Coffee Company in Pittsburgh. Service was good despite the light staffing. On our Friday evening visit, as far as I could see there was only one person handling the bar and tables, but she was friendly, attentive, and handled everything with a smile. Unfortunately, the two biggest reasons most people head to a bar/restaurant--food and drinks--fell a bit flat. The food was fine, but nothing stood out, and portions/prices felt a little high for the quality. The biggest downside was how quiet it was. A Friday night with only 2-3 other patrons made the place feel empty and a bit discouraging. No one wants slammed service from overworked staff, but the opposite isn't ideal either. If you're in the area and want a low-key spot with good vibes and don't mind basic food, it's worth a try. But if you're looking for a lively scene or standout eats, you might want to keep driving. read more

If u don't wanna read my long review, I'll sum it up for you. Gross food/drinks for way too much money. I wouldn't trust the few good reviews they have. My friends and I chose this place to eat at because from the pictures on google, the atmosphere and the menu looked good. We walk in and it's completely empty. That should've been a red flag seeing as it was a beautiful day out on a Sunday, but we stayed anyways. the sever brings out the menus and I immediately noticed several of the menu items had been covered over with white out. We were also informed after trying to order a soda, that they were out of root beer, dr pepper, and mountain dew. Whatever not a huge deal, so I go with a pepsi. The pepsi was so flat and tasted like soda water. My friend ordered a frozen strawberry margarita, the server asked if she wanted a salt or sugar rim & she chose sugar. she brought out her drink & she tasted it, then handed it to us to try because she said something wasn't right. i take a sip of it and immediately wanted to spit it out. it was made it with a salt rim. again, not a huge deal, anyone can make that mistake. but the issue was that it tasted like someone had dumped half a bottle of salt into the margarita. it was disgusting and sooooo salty. we make the server aware & she just said that she wasn't the one who poured it. yet she was the only one working the bar.. so that was odd. she didn't offer to remake the drink or ask if there was something else she wanted. we had to ask again for her to remake it. my other friend gets a bucket drink. it was like raspberry lemonade with schnapps and pinnacle and razzmatazz. it tasted like there was not a single ounce of alcohol in it. just tasted like crappy lemonade. then food comes out. they both order a cheesesteak and said it was okay, but that the fries could've definitely been cooked longer. i was already weary of getting food because of everything that had been messed up. but i ordered mozzarella sticks, because you can't really mess those up. well i was wrong. they bring them out and they are a dark brown color, like they had been cooked for too long. i go to take a bite of one and it just tasted like old oil. it was gross. i was going to dip them in the marinara but noticed chunky stuff in it. it wasn't ur usual tomato chunk or whatever. i got a spoon and dug them out. why was there olives and peas in the marinara? like what? immediately i just wanted to leave and didn't wanna pay for something that i took one bite out of. but at that point i just wanted to leave & i wasn't going to be difficult. we all go up to pay, and their bills were stupid expensive!! i know that alcohol will always drive the price up, but not that much.. it was insane pricing on subpar drinks and food. it's unfortunate that the only good thing about this place was the look of the restaurant. don't even bother wasting your time or money. because you're going to spend a pretty penny on stuff you can make 100x better at home. read more

Nobody in my party liked their food. My fried fish sandwich was okay. The fish was flavorless so I had to smother it in tartar sauce. My friend rated his pulled pork sandwich a 4/10 without the bbq sauce. With the sauce, it went down to 3/10. The fries were terrible. The wings we ordered were all drums and definitely reheated and overcooked. When I picked up the bone, it was cold, but the meat was hot. My other friend said her salad was salty. I guess it should have been a hint that the food wasn't great when the place was empty on a Sunday evening at 7pm. read more

Me and my daughter came over to kill time before our flight and we were both very happy about this place. Great beer selections, and the brisket was so delicious! We ordered the Trio Sliders and they were so good - super tasty and juicy, and the buns were great, too. This is truly a great place to hang out if anyone needs to grab food before the airport. Man, oh man! We've wanted to visit here for quite some time so when the moment finally came we were excited! The interior/ set up of this place is honestly amazing. It's modern and open which could really make for an awesome place to visit! However, the food and staff are what keep people out! First off, our wings literally were thrown on the plate with a very watery sauce under them! They weren't coated in the slightest! My celery was old, when I bit into one piece is was slimy and gross I literally spit it out. On the menu they had a summer time special watermelon marg, our glasses were to be rimmed with salt and sugar... they were half rimmed and messy, the drink itself was not mixed well, and had huge chucks of watermelon still inside which made it even hard to drink. While all of this was already a bad taste in our mouths, we then got to witness our server literally yelling at her coworker over something.. just extremely unprofessional, this was our first and last time visiting.. so unfortunate! read more

I'm writing to share how disappointed and uncomfortable my mother and I felt during our visit to The Hop Yard. We've been loyal customers for years, spending hundreds of dollars here, but what happened this time was completely unacceptable. When we came in for a drink, an older female employee sitting in a chair near the front stared us down the entire time we were there. I As my mother mentioned Joe she was severly defensive so i assume this is a significant other. Weve known him and The Hop Yard for years and it was unsettling. She didn't smile, didn't greet us, just watched us closely as if we didn't belong. As we got up to leave, she immediately began talking about us openly, laughing, and making faces, even continuing to do so after I turned around and caught her. It was humiliating and extremely disrespectful. Before that, we overheard her gossiping about a lease expiring and even blaming a dirty glass she served on Middletown water. That kind of careless talk from an employee combined with the way she treated us shows a serious lack of professionalism and respect for paying customers. We've never been treated this way before, and I can't imagine how a place we once enjoyed could allow someone to act like that toward guests. We walked out feeling demeaned, disrespected, and completely unwelcome. A restaurant that serves dirty dishes and cups and allows employees to treat customers this way should almost like scum not be allowed to operate. Thank you. read more

Terrible food, it doesn't get much worse than this. The fries were cooked in old oil, the wings were so small with little meat, the tacos were mostly lettuce and onion, and the tables were all sticky. So the PLACE is on point. Clean. Modern. TVs all around. Saturday afternoon and it was empty though :(. LOOKS like a great hang out spot. Menu is pretty straight forward. This place is amazing! Very serious about gluten allergies and have a dedicated fryer for all your fried options. The space is esthetically pleasing with its industrial look. They have huge bay doors that open to let the sunshine and breeze in during the hot summer days. Tvs all over for all you sports fans with great beer and liquor deals! This was our first time at this place. It's sits at the corner of the strip mall. It is a bar setting, lots of table space. The menu is full of drinks and food options. For drinks I ordered a frozen margarita, very disappointed- it had no flavor, and left as though it was missing something. My mom ordered a Moscow Mule, that was also ok, only tasted or ginger beer. My fiancé had the green tea & jolly rancher shot. The shots were the only good drinks. I had the taco trio, very delicious. I would have rather had coleslaw as the cilantro lime had no flavor. I did get mild sauce on my tacos which made them delicious. My fiancé had a double cheeseburger and wings, delicious. My mom had the Frank dog and loved it. They had homemade fries which were delicious. Overall not a terrible experience, we could go back and just try different drinks next time. read more

Sorry to post this. I know we are all short handed. But if life hands you lemons make lemonade. Move on from the Global excuse Menu looks great. Atmosphere is awesome. ...... that's all I got. If you want a place to go seat yourself then have the staff stare at your ONLY party of 6 for 20 min then it's your place!!! I thought it was a restaurant at first. But then it seemed possibly extended seating for the train station. Not sure but after many awkward eye contact/zero response moments we kindly handed ourselves to the door. Funny enough place down the street was just as short handed loads more customers and simply start by saying "hello welcome, please be patient we are doing our absolute best, can we start you with water?" Our first and LAST time here. Ordered a simple lunch that consisted of boneless wings, one beer, side salad and a side order of smoked pork and beans. The waitress brought out the food and to our surprise the smoked pork and beans consisted of a styrofoam bowl filled with cold canned beans in water...no signs of pork, no smell of smoked anything. We politely asked the server if she brought the incorrect order or maybe there was a mix up and she turned around and walked away and started chatting with a co-worker as if nothing had happened. The server was then approached at the bar and was asked to politely take the "smoked pork" and beans off our bill. A few minutes later a stranger walks to our table, doesn't introduce himself and in a New York accent says "so what's the problem?" He proceeds to make excuses for his petty ass side presentation and cuts me off THREE times and states " you shop at giant right? You buy beans you gon' get canned beans what do you expect?" "The meat is minced its in there." "I made this myself" Now i let this inbred inbasul talk and continue to feel superior in some way while staring at his cellphone the entire time meanwhile im trying to figure out if he was a chef, an intern or one of the employees unsupervised children. This asshole had the nerve to take the cash for our bill, turn around and ask "is the rest for the tip or nah?" If you are the owner of this establishment even if you just manage the place and you read this, consider taking any and all feedback from customers ESPECIALLY first timers. Your business is in the hands of at least one incompetent idiot . If you were to set the place on fire at least something will have a hint of smoke because the porkless bowl of beans sure as hell doesn't. This is a damn shame. Ignorant, unprofessional and clearly uneducated employee running his mouth to a first time customer without even listening. No wonder you have no rating section on facebook. First and last visit. My fiancé and I frequent different places around Middletown and Harrisburg. This is by far the worst place Iv had drinks and food at in the past two years of living here. First, the drinks had absolutely no alcohol and lacked taste for a drink on the menu that should be made all the time. Food. Horrible. Nachos with beef tips were absolutely disgusting. A handful of shredded cheese was melted on them in the microwave and the beef tips were basically loyds you can get from a can at Walmart. The salsa used lacked any flavor at all too. Her burger was not appetizing either with a stale bun and not cooked. Lastly, service. The two bartenders had their backs turned to customers the whole time. Drinks were prepared extremely slow and not once did either one ask how the food was or if we needed anything. Could have missed it while driving while since it's not very lit up. However, inside it is very nice and clean. The service was good. I appreciated that they listed the pricing for all items: food, beer, mixed drinks and dessert. The menu doesn't have a big selection but enough options to make you think of what you want to order, BBQ based. I had their dog with chili and cheese. It was one a brioche bun that I did enjoy. I'd get it again if I was in the mood but prefer to try their pulled pork. Was not pleased with their seasonal vegetables (zucchini and portobello mushroom). It had a weird pickle flavor. Stumbled upon this place today while in the area and can't believe we'd never heard of it. The atmosphere was great, our server Kelly was very nice and attentive. We got take out, specifically because I wanted Mac n cheese. The 3.50 side was like two spoonfuls. The chicken tacos had no seasoning or sauce- basically a ton of onions and cilantro. I couldn't finish them they were so bad, my dog enjoyed the chicken part though. The wings were like leather and barely had any sauce on them- or maybe it was just burnt? Hard to tell. Ate there at an off time yet the server was EXCELLENT and made sure we had everything we needed during the meal. The food was very good overall. Had the burnt end sandwich and very good except a little salty. The corn muffins we had as an app were good as well. The chicken fingers were obviously from a frozen bag, that was the only negative. We came here the Sunday before Memorial Day looking for a casual meal with craft beer. The place is much bigger than it looks in pictures, and there are TVs all over the walls and an open seating area with tables and a bar in the back. We chose to sit at the bar and were given a drink menu to choose from. They have a lot of beers on tap and rotate different kegs often. We chatted with the bartender (who we later learned was the owner) about the different beers and food options. He suggested some of the BBQ, and showed us all the different BBQ sauces that he had to choose from. It sounded like that was the move, so we opted for the fried mac and cheese balls as an appetizer, I got the pulled chicken with corn and black bean salad and fries, and my partner got the sliders. We really enjoyed trying all the different sauces and talking with the owner about how he was experimenting with different flavor combinations. The place seemed like it had somewhat of an identity crisis because it's marketed as a sports bar and they have a good beer selection, but the music they played was pop music and they specialized in BBQ. They've only been open since August so I would chalk it up to inexperience, as I think that they have the potential to be really successful. Joe, the owner, told us about how they try to do different events with various breweries every couple weeks, and they have burger night and wing night on some nights out of the week too. We really enjoyed trying the different BBQ sauces and chatting with the owner, and all the food was delicious! We'll definitely be back, and we can't wait to come during football season! read more

A solid 3.5....But close to a 4. My husband would disagree but there was just something not doing it for me 100% so anyway... The Hop Yard is located in Middletown down by the PSU campus and I believe it will be a hit with the college crowd. Its in a renovated strip mall and is actually pretty nice inside. It kind of reminds me of a college town bar with chalk signage inside. The bathrooms are super clean and I like that the exit door to the bathroom pushes open rather than pull since there are no paper towels in there I don't have to touch the handle (#germaphobe problems) We made a reservation but didn't need to because on this particular evening it was empty. They have a decent amount of tables and these higher tables against the wall and then the bar seating. It looks like they have garage door windows on the side for outdoor seating potential when weather gets good. The service was friendly though rather slow for a slow night. They have a decent specials menu and it appears that during the week they have some solid food and drink specials. (Note: They're closed on Tuesdays) They have a variety of draft and bottled beers and also mixed drinks. I love crushes so I was thrilled to see orange crushes on the menu. I went nuts tonight and had a creamcicle crush. Made with fresh squeezed orange juice and whipped vodka it hit the spot! We got a good variety of items to try. We started with the bucket of corn bread with apple butter and the soft pretzel with beer cheese. The bucket of cornbread was priced at around $6 and came with 4 small corn bread muffins and a ramekin of apple butter. I thought it was tasty but the price was a little steep for what it was. It was no better than cracker barrel's corn bread and apple butter and that's free. But I love corn bread so it did it for me. The pretzel was large and soft and salted well. The beer cheese - we couldn't decide whether it was spicy or so salty that it felt hot. Either way I wasn't a huge fan. The mustard was sweet almost like the apple butter. For our meals we tried the soups. We had corn and bacon (potato?) chowder (Didn't have this myself - heard no complaints from those who got it, and a brisket chili which had more fat than meat. I know brisket is supposed to be fatty but I don't prefer mouthfuls of fat. That's just me. I also got a house salad that was served in a medium silver mixing bowl. Cute. The salad was chopped and the dressings are house made. I got the lime vinaigrette and it was light and tasty. Not bad. For my meal I tried the buffalo Chicken mac and cheese which is on the appetizer menu but I thought it would be a good meal and it was a good size for a meal. However I didn't think it was executed well. It was their house made mac and cheese with a slab of cheddar cheese on top and then it was like they put some chicken on it and slathered the whole thing with buffalo sauce. The macaroni was a little bland and since everything else was caked on top it was hard to get a bite that had everything mixed perfectly. If the Mac and cheese was more cheesy and then topped with chicken and some more cheese and then drizzled with sauce it would have been awesome. So next time I'd order it with the sauce on the side and then I could make it the way I want it. It was not appetizing to get mouthfuls of just sauce or just the hard cheese from the top. Or a mouthful of bland noodles. My husband took it for lunch the next day and enjoyed it so to each his own. He also got the two meat platter with 2 sides. Priced at around $14 this is a pretty decent deal. He chose pulled pork and brisket and loved it. Maybe I'll try the brisket mac and cheese next time...They do have a kids menu. My kids got burgers and mac and cheese and ate them all up. The fries and coleslaw were very good too! So the food is pretty good. The servers changed shifts while we were there so we kind of got left behind. They were very nice when they came around but no one asked if we wanted more to drink and when I asked for a box he forgot and I had to ask him again which I always feel bad doing. But I got my box and all was well. Overall a decent experience. I'll likely come back and just try something different. read more
