Conveniently located next to a department store, we were glad to find an all you can eat hot pot before entering the greater Colorado Springs. The Hot Spot seems to be under Vietnamese ownership, judging from the big Karaoke setup in the middle of the room and the surround music being Vietnamese songs. I'm sure this place becomes lively when there is a party and people take to their singing skills. But on this regular Saturday afternoon, it was not even half filled. Customers have a choice of ordering regular Vietnamese fares or be seated at a hot pot table to enjoy cooking your own food. One nice thing about The Hot Spot is that we weren't limited to 90 min or 2 hours. Could be because it was during a slow time. Food wise it was far from an elaborate hot pot experience. The broths don't have distinctive flavors from one another and there lacks a sauce station! Which is a signature hot pot spot! The meats, when brought out, especially the beef slices, tend to be on the darker hue, to me that signals less fresh. And the booth seats aren't the most comfortable. I think they make shift to turn the booth tables into hot pot compatible where the outlets are in the way of your knees (if you're tall and have long legs) or if short like me, the seats feel sunken. I recommend skipping the vegetarian Pho, I order a large for take out tonight and it was very bland, "fresh cilantro" was dark brown, 2 pieces of cauliflower, 3 pieces of broccoli, a couple of tofu chunks, and about 5 slices of carrot. Americans might feel the place isn't as fancy as other Asian places but you can tell by how many students and families frequent this place that it is really good food with generous portions- a great price, worth every penny! We stopped here with our friend and boy, are we glad we did. From the time we walked in until we left, we were treated like family. We were welcomed with handshakes and a very genuine smile by the owner himself. We picked a table and sat down. Our drinks showed up within a minute of sitting down. Our orders were taken as soon as we were ready and the food arrived ten minutes later. Hot, fresh and extremely well prepared. Delivered with an energy that made us feel very important. Was craving hot pot. We originally went to a spot we'd been to before but, surprise, it was closed on a Tuesday. So we looked up other hot pot businesses and this one came up. It was a little further than I would have liked to have gone, but we got there and were seated right away. Was happy to find that this is an all-you-can-eat hot pot with a completely separate menu if you want something different. There were 3 of us and we all chose a variety of meats and veggies. We also ordered crab Rangoon's, spring rolls, and 3 sodas. The amount of food that arrived to the table was amazing and everything was absolutely delicious. We ordered the miso base, beef base, and tom yum base, with 3 different meats and a ton of veggies. We really thought we'd order more, but we were so stuffed by the end. The place is a decent size place and it looks like they do karaoke. It's clean and we got seated right away. I ordered all you can eat with the pho broth. Be warned though that they require you to order vegetables and noodles as well in order to do all you can eat otherwise they will charge you a la carte if you only order meat and seafood which is the only reason I went there. I normally don't eat carbs and was not very happy that I would have to get the noodles in order to get the all you can eat. The service was lacking, once we were seated and made the first order the server was non existent. Didn't come by to see if we needed any more meats or drinks. I had to walk to the register to get him just to get more drinks and a second order of meat. By the time we were done I'd only gotten to put in two orders in which case I should've just ordered a regular bowl of soup. Definitely not worth the $30 because of the lack of service. If you're going to advertise all you can eat then actually make it all you can eat and don't make it hard to get additional orders of meat. They are a Vietnamese restaurant selling their unused product as "hot pot" items. They have zero sauces outside of the "pho" sauces, the veggies are old and brown, and their meat is sub par as they claim it is "premium". I even asked if they had something simple like sesame oil, and they didn't. Service is atrocious...they don't speak English and when I arrived I stood there for 5 mins with zero service or host when the restaurant had no clients. The waiter got my order incorrect even though it's a sheet you mark. When I tried to call him to get his attention, he ignored me, even though I was saying "excuse me" several times and waved my hands quite vigorously (the man was standing 6 feet from the table). The hot pot is very good. The broth definitely has a lot of delicious seasoning. This restaurant is very new, so some of the kinks are being worked out on the fly. The owners are very friendly. With a few fixes, this could easily be a 5 star review. First, the squid didn't taste very fresh. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't fresh. I probably wouldn't have served it if it were my restaurant. Second, the floors were sticky, especially on the dance floor. Third, even though we filled out the order form for the hot pot ingredients, the owner brought out one of everything on the menu. It was just unusual that we would specifically ask for only some items, and then suddenly have everything brought out. So I did some research, suggested to our friends who live in CO Springs and off we went. This was the first time they had hot pot or shabu and they loved it. TONS OF FOOD! I believe it's AYCE because of all the food we ordered. There were four of us so maybe we ordered wrong (and too much). I confirmed with staff on how to order after choosing the broth and she said each can order whatever we want from the list. So we got 4 broccoli orders for four people and it was WAY TO MUCH! Same with two tofu orders, and other veggies, shrimp, meat etc. Holy crap that was a lot of food. We did our best to finish because there's a charge if you over-order (but they didn't charge us). This restaurant is located inside the Citadel mall off to the side from the food court. This is a standalone restaurant, which used to be Ruby Tuesdays in the old days. The interior is very well done, with a bar as you come in. The restaurant is very bright, clean and desirable. I was greeted immediately upon coming in, and given a glass of water. Each of a booths have four electric burners that are embedded flush in the table top like I've never seen before. The owner explained to me that the burners are for "hot pot" meals. New to me. He says that they bring broth over to you in small pots, and the burners are turned on. He says that the sides that go into the pots are on the side and you cook your own. If you run out of sides, you push a button on the table and they bring you more of what you want. There is plenty of seating. There are several tables with pretty padded modern chairs for a group. The tables are covered with red tablecloths with glass on top. A buffet area is off to the side. There is a wall sized television affair with the movie of a burning fireplace. Cool and cozy. There appears to be a dance floor in the middle of the seating, with a guitar and mic set up. Karaoke? Entertainment? I don't know. There is an outside exit/entrance on the south side of the restaurant. I had the meat combo pho, which was the bomb! Best since I was in Vietnam. Brisket, tendon and wonderful stringy tripe. Spring rolls with shrimp and pork were wonderful, with the requisite side plate of bean sprouts, fresh basil and jalapeño slices on the side. A small saucer of the hottest chile sauce I've ever tasted was on the side plate. A sauce with peanuts for dipping your spring rolls was expected and received. Chile sauce was on the table to spoon onto your food.The service was impeccable and friendly. They brought me a slice of seedless watermelon to eat. Loved it. We each ordered the Tom Yum Hot Pot and wow, those flavors were so strong and delicious. The server came and gave us TWO free glasses of wine and brought so much joy to our table.
