EVERYTHING was outstanding! We had 3 family members over age 80 and the hostesses were amazing. We originally were at a table with benches and they graciously and seamlessly moved us to a table that had chairs with backs.It was SO appreciated and allowed the grandparents to be comfortable and enjoy a wonderful evening celebrating their granddaughter's graduation. Got the Smash Burger and it was pretty good. Location can be hard to find parking, even on a normal night. Only about a 5 minute wait on the night we visited. The Hound has a small homey feeling. We sat at a bar top table at the end of the bar so there was a little bit of traffic constantly going by but not terrible. There's a little bit of a gap in the menu. It's either a few options (mostly sandwiches and apps) under $20 and then you jump to the high $20s. read more

Tough night at The Hound. Beer served warm. Server took away warm beer and replaced with another (but still charged for the replacement?). Venison chili served cold, meatloaf and mashed potatoes served cold, burger served with no cheese, salad arrived with no chicken. All corrected upon request but slowly and without apology. No visit from manager, no complimentary dessert, nothing that indicated any care in ensuring we (as locals) would be inclined to overlook a bad night and return. As former restaurant owners, this experience was indicative of a restaurant content to rest on its laurels rather than continue to deliver the experience expected from its five star reviews. Went back for my daughters birthday and had dinner. Our server was Chloe and she was absolutely amazing! She handled everything and was so nice and personable. My wife and I shared the ribeye steak frites and a baked Mac and cheese. The steak was cooked perfectly and we chose the cowboy butter as the topping. It added to the flavor. The fries were hit and crispy. The Mac and cheese was baked in a skillet and was full of cheese and cooked nicely. During our visit to Auburn, we tried this restaurant for the first time. I had high expectations because so many people had recommended it, but the food disappointed me. We started with their old-fashioned drinks, which, as you can see from the menu photos, come in a variety of flavors. The drinks were delicious. We ordered their butterbean hummus, which came with green tomato chow chow, goat cheese, real good GA olive oil, and za'atar seasoned fry bread - it was a unique appetizer. I liked it. After that, we ordered their hot chick chicken burger with a side salad. The chicken burger was okay but not memorable. Their skirt steak for $42 was also underwhelming. Chimichurri, mashed potatoes, and tobacco onions are included. I didn't think the steak was fresh or easy to chew. The cost was not justified. We had their bread pudding for dessert, which could be better. Not the best I've ever had. Overall, I feel like this is one of those places you go once to try but don't return to because the food isn't delicious enough. However, the service was excellent, which I appreciated. We decided to eat at The Hound for my Freshman daughter's birthday dinner. It's located off of Gay Street on a side road next to a parking deck. But don't let the location fool you. It has an amazing vibe when you enter, and it's like walking into a cabin in the woods. We ordered the Ribeye, we had them split it in the kitchen as the wifey and I were not overly hungry. We paired it with Garlic Green Beans and Greens. Simply put, it was an amazing meal! Our steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The Garlic Green Brans were a garlic lovers dream. 3.5-4 stars so I rounded up. Cool place with good food. We came after a football game and got lucky with a 20 minute wait. By the time we were leaving around 8pm there was an hour and twenty minute wait. They don't take reservations during game season so plan to get there early or wait. Service was fine- our waitress was a little flustered (maybe she was new?) and didn't help with recommendations much. My husband and I started with the hummus appetizer. Very interesting take on hummus! It had peppers, green onions and goat cheese. Not my favorite hummus but it was good. The pita that came with it was seasoned deliciously! Discrimination - NOT SERVICE ANIMAL FRIENDLY - and do not understand the ADA.gov laws! - Very, very disappointing experience. I never write reviews - however given - by their own statement "they are privately owned and can do what they want" - I feel it necessary to make this review. As we can only speak with our money and out vote - and they will get NO MORE of mine! First, I will say - that previous to today, my family and I have enjoyed every meal at the hound - in fact when we are in town (very regularly) we make it a point to eat there - no, longer!. This evening, we attended a great win for Auburn MBB and got to our reservation early. My service animal, that is with me nearly all the time, had been with me throughout the game and we went straight to the restaurant. After checking in and using restroom - upon walking to the bar to look for rest of family - I was approached by a very rude man (tall black gentleman) who rudely stated "you can't have an animal" I informed that service animal and went to an out of the way area to wait. Moments later this gentleman returned and asked, "where is her vest". Again - another ADA violation as at no point was my service animal not performing as required and at this point was laying under my legs. I voluntarily produced her papers and at this point a man representing himself as the owner Robbie Nicolaisen appeared and echoed the need for a vest. I attempted to relay that the engagement in and of itself was not appropriate in regards to ADA and that I had already proven her status. They called me passive aggressive for trying to discuss and educate - I had already agreed that we would not dine and that as soon as my wife came from the bathroom we would leave. Other patrons where appalled by the transaction and the manager literally went to find my wife to get us to leave. We left the establishment, and since the last thing the owner said was "I will do some research" , after going outside and leaving my service animal with family, returned to try to show them the resource. I asked the manager if I could again see Robbie - I was rudely asked why, I said here, just to show you the actual published guidelines by the ADA. Ultimately their tune changed and they said that they are private organization and they can refuse service to anyone and that I needed to leave. I was flabbergasted when they then threatened to call the police ---seriously!!!! When at no point was my demeanor threatening or "disorderly". Another female manager came to me and for all intents an purposes rehashed and gaslit portraying me as the problem for quietly standing in the waiting area and trying to simply engage them in regards to their ignorance with the laws. Police did show, I waved to them and they asked about who was disorderly - which I said apparently me. They did ask me to leave after a brief conversation wiht manager - I said well who do I complain to about discrimination - the officer looked puzzled and I explained the ordeal. We went outside and had a pleasant conversation for which some guidance was given to me that I will not post on here, but safe to say the officers were very supportive and ultimately supported this route of complaint. At the end of the day - as a business owner myself, our life blood is people and serving them. We live by that and we die by that. I am utterly flabbergasted at the treatment tonight, the lack of willingness to communicate, the instant rudeness and then ultimately at the root of it, discrimination. I am a minority and never have I felt like that because of race - but I never would have imagined to have to deal with it because of what is tantamount to a medical device. I fully understand the bias, as all too often people just buy a vest from Amazon...and I truly wish that that would stop. So I give some grace with that attitude, but common sense needs to return to being common, pleasantness and politeness needs to be more present. The manager, Celine, needs to find a new profession. She kicked us out after we mentioned a request to sit at a booth (which was mentioned when making the reservation a month in advance) and not at the table with the bench due to my mother in law recently having back surgery, and instead of offering a solution to our request, immediately told us to leave or she would call the cops. My husband and I said go ahead and waited for the cops to show up to escort us out. What a terrible way for a manager to handle a dissatisfied customer. So extreme when there was no need for it. We will not be eating here again, and I really hope the manager learns how to handle conflict better in the future. If you can't handle a calm conversation with a dissatisfied customer, then you should find a new career path. Such a shame. read more

I came out to The Hound on a whim while I was out in Alabama for work and decided to give it a try since it seemed like one of the more popular local spots and I was not disappointed at all. The restaurant is located in what I assume was the heart of Auburn and isn't too difficult to locate since it's right by the main parking structure. Our server was also very passionate as she ran us through the entire menu and gave us various suggestions but honestly it didn't help because she recommended every single item on the menu that I was torn between. In the end, we decided to take it easy on the ordering since we wanted to try some other local spots afterwards. **Bulgolgi Tots - I did not expect to find decent Bulgolgi tots out here in Alabama so I was shocked by how much I enjoyed these. It was a struggle trying to NOT eat all of it. **Half Drunk Chicken - The chicken was well seasoned and had nice textures but we felt like the accompanying sides were a little lack luster but still enjoyed the dish overall. **Pork Chop - The garlic chili crunch and pepper-jelly really complement the Pork Chop well and made every bite so enjoyable. For a small town, this restaurant is pretty impressive with a clever southern menu and excellent service. If you're in Auburn and want some tasty cooking in the Deep South, The Hound is a good option. If you haven't been to an establishment that offers something called a flight, it's essentially a sampling of several different items in small portions, often alcoholic beverages but relevant to food as well. The Hound has a bacon flight appetizer, and I highly recommend it! They have an employee who does nothing but cut and prepare different types of bacon. You won't know which four selections you'll receive until you ask, as it depends on what the bacon specials of the day happen to be. But let's hope you luck out and get the garlic dill, because that was the star of the flight! For main courses, our family delved into the New York Strip, the Berkshire pork chop, and the chicken-fried steak. The cuts of beef are delicious! The chicken-fried version tastes more like a typical pot roast than Wagyu beef cheeks as advertised. Nonetheless it was very satisfying. I'd avoid the pork chop though. The gold standard would be Patti's in Kentucky or Hitching Post II in California, where the world's best pork chops have the texture of a tender steak. The chops at The Hound are closer to the chewy consistency of the mystery patty in a Burger King chicken sandwich. It didn't have much flavor either. The mac and cheese is stupendous, among the best in the Southeastern United States. And that's coming from the son of two professional chefs with very high standards! It's cheesy, gooey, with crisp edges here and there and al dente shells absorbing this glorious perfection. Amazing! I don't even like beans, but I devoured the butterbean succotash with the pork chop. They were incredible! Dessert was so spectacular, it nearly bumped this review up to four stars. The buttermilk pie is so perfectly textured, so smooth and creamy, such an impeccable crust and a thin layer of baked crispness on top. As none of us like anything bourbon flavored, we asked for the bourbon caramel sauce on the side. Wow, we're we pleasantly surprised!
