This was a nice, almost 'fusion' food experience, between Irish food and southern cuisine. They do an amazing twist on Fried Green Tomatoes with goat cheese that cannot be missed! Atmosphere is spot on when it comes to an Irish pub. (Last summer we were in Ireland, taking part in many a Guinness and other things in various pubs.) We had a wonderful waitress...and I'm sad we can't remember her name. A lady in her 40s or 50s. She was super attentive, nice and welcoming. Wait time wasn't long, everything came out quickly. Our family group had burgers, shrimp and grits and a Sheppard's pie (actually a cottage pie). We also shared an appetizer of fried green tomatoes. The portions are large and almost all of us took another full meal home when all was said and done. Tasted great, we just couldn't finish it all! The location is nice too, lots to do down that strip. As for costs, it was on par with other places with the same food quality. If you're in town, this place is a must! read more

It had been a great place for lunch for us, but dinner was a bust. Our appetizer was highly recommended by our server, but never arrived. A big deal was made that we would not be charged for it. A couple of us went with the grouper over jambalaya special. The fish was fantastic with a light, fried crust. Everything else was stone cold. The restaurant was a bit chaotic and our server was not to be seen so I finished most of the fish before being asked if I was enjoying my meal. We did not eat the cold side. read more

When a while ago, just not been in these town. Got fish and chips, (fries), meat and three (hamburger steak, salad, black pepper green beans and chips ( real chips) all were great. Kids menu Mac and cheese and mash potatoes. Didn't taste the mac and cheese but did taste the mash. It was good. Staff was super friendly and keep drinks full. Got Irish cheese cake with all of that with waters it was $46 not counting tip. read more

Visited on a Wednesday during Open Mic Night upstairs. Great vibes, comfortable seating. Service was fast and friendly. Ordered the pork schnitzel w champ potatoes and a side salad. House ranch and potatoes were excellent but the schnitzel was suuuuuper heavy on the peppercorn which was really disappointing because it would have been perfect with just the mushroom sauce. read more

Me and wife came here for dinner while in downtown area. It was day before st Patrick's day and was pretty busy. Despite that we were seated promptly and the staff remained extremely friendly and helpful. I love shepherds pie so obviously that's my go to at Irish pubs but this time I opted for the vodka chicken they had. The wife went with the fish and chips I must say the vodka chicken was one of the best chicken dishes I've had. It was covered in a tomato vodka sauce and mozzarella cheese. Like a chicken parm. But man was it cooked and seasoned to perfection. I got the beer battered fries and asparagus as sides. The asparagus was again cooked and seasoned to perfection. The fries were also solid. The wife said her fish and chips were amazing as well. She said the fish was buttery and the batter was the best she's had on a fish and chips. She said no fishy taste at all. I decided to try it even though I do not like fish. I ended up finishing what she couldn't (it was a very big piece) which again shows how good it was since I despise fish. My beautiful wife and I tried IBP out for lunch. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant. The young lady who was our server was great, very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. My wife had the Reuben sandwich and I had the fish and chips. It was cooked perfectly and not greasy at all. They were busy but had a few empty tables. Bar was packed. They didn't want to sit me at a table because I was eating alone and I didn't want to eat at the packed bar. I asked if they serve the outside 2 person tables along 9th St. She said yes so I told her I would sit outside. Someone took me to a table and left me with a menu. I sat there maybe 10 minutes, thinking 5 more and I'm leaving. Just them a waitress came up and said, I noticed you sitting here so I checked to see if your table has anyone assigned and there isn't so I'm going to serve you if that's ok. She ended up being a great server but the hostess putting me out there without assigning someone to my table wasn't a good first experience. I got the Reuben sandwich and it was ok. I have given this place too many chances over the years-not going here to eat again. The food is subpar at best- brown spots on fresh greens and steamed veggies, dry grits, and tough pork. So disappointed. First the positive--our server was nice. But he wasn't efficient in the ways that count. We were seated by the same server since the hostess wasn't at the door when we arrived. This was our first time so we didn't know anything IBP had to offer. We even let our server know. He said to order according to our liking and we'd be happy. Wrong! We both got the shepherd's pie. It was served in foil to-go pans. It was mostly all mashed potatoes, a little bit of ground beef, a sprinkling of peas and carrots and no gravy! I keep moving my potatoes around to find the Guinness gravy mentioned on the menu and there was none. We waited for our server to come ask how our food was. When he did he was walking past our table on his way to another. We didn't answer him and he never came Back to ask why. At the end when he asked if we wanted to go boxes (even though it was served in to-go boxes) we told him there wasn't a lick of gravy in our pie. He responded, "really?" Ummm, yes, really! He came back saying he slapped the kitchen on the hand! Not helpful! He did take one pie off our ticket, but he had already ruined our nice evening out. As we left we noticed a completely different side of the pub--with cool lighting, cushioned booths and hopefully a different quality Of service. We are from out of town and were so very disappointed this was our last dinner in Opelika. If we lived here we wouldn't come back. read more

Very cool pub restaurant in historic downtown Opelika. Great atmosphere, exceptional staff and superb food. The mussel plate appetizer and fish & chips are one of the best I've had! We ate at the Auburn location of IBP for lunch today. They seated us in the bar area (only 2 other tables were occupied). From other reviews and our experience, don't sit in the bar section if you want best service. One of the 3 of us received a wrong order (server wrote the order wrong despite guest's clear, simple instructions to remove 1 item from a sandwich). Server never checked on us, but shift manager did and they got it fixed. Pictured here is the pork schnitzel I ordered which was surprisingly thick (like the cutlet was never pounded) and fried to an almost burnt stage. It was tasteless; the only thing that gave it flavor were the sauce and 1/4 cup of sauerkraut that came with it. Truly a poor schnitzel. Partner's Vodka Chicken was the best item - truly fresh and flavorful. IBP has great ambiance and I hear their supper experience is different. Approach lunch with caution. read more

My husband and I had dinner here. I had the shrimp and grits with a side salad. The salad was good. It was a nice little appetizer before the main entrées came out. The shrimp and grits wasn't bad. I didn't care for the sweetness it had to it. I prefer more savory grits. I would've preferred if the grits had some type of cheese in it to add saltiness, but that's personal preference. The shrimp were fine. They were cooked very well and not rubbery at all. They had a barbecue sauce on it, I could've taken a little bit more sauce on the shrimp. Also, the tails were not removed on the shrimp, and somehow pieces of the shrimp tail were mixed in with the grits when it was cooked, which I didn't care for when taking a bite. I will probably come back, but I think I'll order something different. We waited for about 40 minutes to receive our food. I think this restaurant would benefit from having a bread service before the meal especially if these wait times are a common thing. This was our first time here so maybe our 40 minute wait isn't common. read more

My husband and I had our 32nd anniversary dinner here on a quiet Thursday night. We were seated quickly and we're served by the friendly bartender. I had the bangers and mash, which was delicious. The sausages had just the right level of spice, and the taste of the Guiness just came through. My husband had the shepherd's pie, and said it was good. My small taste seemed a little bland, but I may have just missed the good stuff. We would definitely return here if we lived nearby, but we are just in town to do some genealogical research during our road trip vacation. read more

Slow service? Try NO service. I had to wait an unreasonable time to be seated (even though I was in full view of the bartender) and then, once I was seated, I sat for 20 minutes, and no one ever visited my table, brought a drink, or took my order. I walked out. I drove an hour from my hometown to eat their lunch special after seeing it on Facebook, and didn't have the opportunity. And to the middle-aged men at the bar who made snide remarks about me questioning why I had not seen my server after waiting 20 minutes, I think it's fair to remind you that only ugly people day-drink. Unless you're in a resort town. I have never had this kind of problem being served here before. read more

This place is gooooooood. We went for our anniversary and we really enjoyed it. The next day we even said, "'man that food was good." I had the vodka chicken. It was very juicy and crunchy. The flavor was great. I ordered with mashed potatoes. My husband got the salmon and it was pretty large and tasty. My daughter didn't want to miss a yummy meal so we said she could come along and she ordered the shepherds pie. I tasted hers and it was pretty delicious. Our adorable server, Ashley, was on top of her game and fast and friendly. She was super attentive. She gave us the most amazing dessert of bread pudding with this yummy bourbon sauce.
