Here on vacation and was curious about this place. The reviews seemed hit or miss, but we were really happy with our experience here! The buffet is available, but there's also an option to fill up a plate with as much food as you want for $10. This was an amazing value. There were tons of options available, even for vegetarians and vegans. Every dish I tried was delicious--cheesy potatoes, lentil soup, pulled pork, stuffed cabbage, kale salad, and more. Very interesting and unexpected place. Farm fresh veggies and flowers at the front. The homemade bread was delicious. We picked up a few things to go. I picked the beef stew. Though it didn't look so appetizing, it was one of the best I've had. The beef was cooked to shreds. The broth tasted like it was made from bone broth. We also tried the curry butternut squash, also exceptional. It was heavier on turmeric and ginger, rather than masala. Both soups were healthy and well balanced. They were thick and so filling. Trying to figure out what church these folks are affiliated with. I was assuming Mennonite, which is A-OK. But the Children of God also have some operations like this, and I don't want to patronize them necessarily. Food was fine, a bit carb-heavy. The desserts definitely were sweetened by Stevia, which is a hard pass for me. Stuff on both the hot and cold lines could've used a refresh. But having worked foodservice for a gazillion years, I saw the variety of dishes. I know it isnt easy to keep up with demand when you don't have a huge staff to do everything. The entertainment had me wondering if some of his lyrics were "I saw a cooter today". (Those are the words I heard repeatedly and so I had to go outside to keep from laughing). One word comes to mind: terrifying. I've been to a lot of "health food markets," but none that terrified me on sight. Why? My husband and I were looking for a healthy lunch - and considering the pretty pictures on the circular, which promised a salad bar? We were IN! And then we walked inside. Dark, dank...and that salad bar? Looked like the greens were days old. To be honest, we didn't even risk a meal...which is why I was careful in choosing to write this review. Based on what I read here I might try the Hub again, but our experience was quite different from the general trend. The gentleman bringing out food to the buffet wasn't wearing a mask until he came over to ring out our purchase. A woman who looked like she might be the cook was wearing a mask covering mouth only, nose exposed. The young man working the register was wearing a large dirty bandage on one hand, with bare feet. We didn't get the feeling that cleanliness was a priority, so we decided to buy a few pre-packaged foods and left without trying the prepared food. read more

what a fabulous surprise for us! I live in Atlanta GA and traveled To Plattsburgh to visit my children and grandchildren. While on a road trip, trying to decide where to eat, we passed this place. All the food was so yymmy, fresh and like they say, "from their farm to the table". Everything was outstanding! I can't say enough about it. I decided to try the Hub simply for the reviews and I happened to be in town checking out the farmers market this weekend. What a great decision! I had arrived as the owner was just putting the food out on the buffet. Everything is locally sourced farm to table. Meats with no chemical additives as it should be! I had the salad bar and love the juicy red sliced tomatoes, hummus was beyond delicious, and her marinated beets were so good I wanted to pull the container and take it back to the table and polish it off! The hot buffet had a vegan stuffed cabbage which was also out of this world. All I can say is if you're in Tupper Lake region, make your way to this cute little place. And she sells fresh produce from her farm also. I have never seen cauliflower so big! read more

A great place for people who want vegan, gluten free, or local real food. The owner can tell you the farm where the food was grown or raised and even the breed of cow the dairy products came from. We visited several times in late June/ early July 2017. We had the buffet several nights and got groceries here including organic packaged foods and fresh produce. The buffet varies depending on what is in season, but always some vegan hot dishes and cold salads, local meat dish, and awesome desserts (some vegan). We will be back next year when we vacation in Tupper Lake again! read more

I anticipated for the place to be visually welcoming. Also I was expecting to see fresh food right front of my eyes as I come in. Unfortunately.. it did not happen. I was met with children and their barefoot. I see their feet. They runs the cashier and food. I went over to the buffet. It does not look very appetiting. It did not smell good. Who knows how long the food laid there. Flies around it. They flew around me too. Table and seating were not comfortable. Everything does not look very hygiene. Stopped by here on a Monday night at 5 after a long road trip. Though we really like the concept, like many things in the North Country it is fairly rough around the edges. We did the all-you-can-eat buffet, which gave access to several hot dishes and a well-stocked salad bar. Many of the items were fresh cooked including roasted green beans and squash and some tasty marinated beets and tomatoes at the salad bar. A lot of the produce was really nice, especially the stuff that was popular enough to be rotated out recently. The vegan chili was great. Unfortunately, many of the items did not fare so well. This was almost always because they had been left out too long without a lid. The most egregious of these was a soup that, though covered, had congealed to the bottom of the pot, more or less solidifying into a paste. There was also uncovered and exposed meat in some of the trays that was not touched over the course of the entire hour that we were there. Nobody seemed to be rotating it with fresher stock, so it had grown a pretty nasty skin. There were also two kinds of brownies, which one of the staff helpfully informed me were gluten free and non gluten free. However, she couldn't tell me which was which and never came back to clarify the issue. Regardless, the brownies were quite dry because they had been sitting out uncovered for too long. A third issue was that it was difficult to tell what different items were, although we were given a helpful tour when we came in. Most items did not have clear labeling of any sort and it was nigh impossible tell what items contained meat fish or were vegan, let alone what they even were. One other health concern, besides the uncovered stagnant products, was how cutlery was stored. The tines of forks faced upwards so that you had to touch the part that went into people's mouths on several adjacent forks while grabbing your own. This is sort of gross, for obvious reasons. I'm all for rustic hippie stuff, but that doesn't mean I compromise on cleanliness or freshness of food in warming trays. I would go back again to give it another shot because it meets a niche that is desperately needed up here, but there are some serious issues that need to be addressed - I wouldn't bring my parents here. read more

We stayed in Tupper Lake for a couple days and were so happy we found this place!! The best food around--this place would be a gold mine if they were located in NYC!! We sat out on the back deck and had an amazing dinner-- we tried their salads, veggies, and some chicken and fish dishes-- and also their wonderful teas and yummy desserts! My whole family gave it all thumbs up. Lots of gluten free and vegan options. Fresh produce and baking/cooking (including bags of Champlain Valley flour!) Also for sale. Farm to table buffet with many options for appetites of all sizes (including all you can eat (includes dessert $15; more than enough food on a medium plate $8, etc) The tomato salad was amazing. As a former resident of Tupper Lake and frequenter of The Hub I'm compelled not only to comment on the quality of the food, but the quality of the folks behind the counter as well. The spirit of the Adirondacks permeates through the walls and dinner plates with locally grown produce (most of it from their own backyard!) and a family friendly atmosphere.
