We are traveling around New England and found the Hungry Diner. A really sweet girl met us at the door and explained their ordering system and was very helpful with recommendations. My husband had the burger and I had a fish sandwich. Both were cooked to perfection. Also, the fries had a great seasoning. So good, ketchup wasn't needed. Also, while dining, the song Way Down South on the Chattahoochee" was playing. Unbeknownst to them, they were playing our song. We are from Georgia and practically grew up on the Chattahoochee River. What a cool find -- Who doesn't love farm to table when it's really connected to the farm? After ordering inside, we thought we'd sit outside though it started to rain and migrated back in where we found plenty of space. Haven't been here in 4 or 5 years. I was so glad to see that it's still here. It's not a diner as you may think, more of a gastro pub. It's one decent size open space with spartan decor. As you enter the menus are on your left on the wall, pick up a menu & place order at the bar/counter. There's a blackboard listing about a dozen local craft brews, they also have local craft liquor, then proceed to seat yourself. They will bring the food to your table. I decided to sit at the bar After perusing the menu ordered The Three Little Pig sandwich - pork patty, bacon, Bonnie bacon jam, local cheddar, lettuce, tomato & pickle chips on the side along with a generous portion of fries, also ordered a local IPA & it was perfect, could have gone for another but I was a solo driver. It's a self-serve place and pretty pricey for that. Getting an iced tea refill was complicated (and charged for). Again, self-service. But tip requested by pad at time of order. Drove an hour to get here since my husband said it was very good. I am not a fan of order then sit down but whatever. I never know what to tip. I gave 20% but honestly 15-18% would of done just fine. Most order to sit down does not come w service beyond bringing you your order. We ordered a chicken sandwhich, burger w bacon added, a Moscow mule and 1 beer for $61. It was a pricey lunch for sure. Chicken sandwhich had great flavor but was on the small side...to me not filling. The burger was excellent. Cooked perfectly and was juicy. Double patty and filling. What a terrific place! EVERYTHING perfect! Went by accident as the pizza place next door was closed for a private party. Fresh, delicious dishes with local meats and cheeses. Staff went out of their way to welcome us and show appreciation for us being there which is hard to find nowadays. Prices are reasonable for quality food. Second time stopping here and both trips have been excellent. Today I got their chicken lollipops. I am more of a chicken wing guy but these lollipops (drumsticks) were beautifully tender, juicy and perfectly sauces (Korean BBQ for me). The owner chatted with us briefly and gave us a bit of their farm to table info (in fact the lollipops came from their own farm or nearby) Dining companion had the fish tacos and loved them. Great vibes here. Love that they incorporate the beef, pork, chicken, turkey, and eggs from their farm into the dishes. Even the dishes that don't include farmed ingredients are delicious as well. We got the nacho fries (special), fish sandwich and rabbit pierogis (I believe it was a special entree when we went). All were very tasty, the fish was super crunchy and flavorful. The rabbit pierogi were good but would try something different next time. Definitely try the cider or kombucha. I got a lemonade and it was a little too sour but I believe it was homemade. We were passing through and thought we'd give it a try. O.M.W.!!! - this place is amazing! Started with pickle jar and chicken lollipops (Korean bbq). Then some poutine with real curds and legit gravy. Creamy Chicken soup was next...so delicate and flavorful. I'll take a gallon of the soup to go please! Lastly, Chicken sandwich with tomatoe jam, and washed it down with a mocha milkshake. All I have to say is JUST GO, and GO NOW! Beer selection is killer, not to mention you can get a cocktail too! Okay, first time here. Will definitely go back. On the food side: Good beer menu. A bit pricey -- when did a pint become $8-$9? Very tasty Korean tacos. The presentation and plating could stand a little love. They were sitting in a puddle of the sauce, albeit a very tasty sauce. Due to the puddle and the lack of anything else on the plate to break up the monotony of the three tacos, I somewhat inhaled them and it would have been nice if there were a few chips or some slaw or something to round out the experience (or at least soak up the puddle). The veggie burger -- good flavor but the texture just seemed like nobody even tried to make something palatable. Basically an herbed mashed potato croquette. Between impossible burgers, mushroom burgers, bean and quinoa burgers, there are so many ways to make something with texture, at least make an effort! Plus: Nice space. Cons: Music a little loud and spotlights mounted from the ceiling a bit harsh. But clean and good balance of rustic and contemporary. We were in the mood for a slice of pie. Unfortunately it was all cold desserts, ice cream and shakes. We were told it depends on the week. Like I said - we'll be back. Maybe on a warmer day. Sit outside. Try some of the other offerings. The Hungry Diner is a gem of a spot in Walpole, NH easily found right off the main road that has a elevated pub food menu which is locally sourced. Inside, the dining area with bar is on smaller side, but is clean and inviting. You order inside at the counter and staff brings out your food. We opted for sitting outdoors on the front lawn with a fire pit and picnic tables overlooking nice sunset fall foliage on a distant hill. Excellent regionally local craft beer list- bartender was friendly and I had a try of a delicious porter before deciding. I had the chickenwich which comes with pickles and handcut fries which was very good, but for the $17 dollar price tag I wished there was more of that delicious local fried buttermilk chicken patty as it was definitely smaller and I was still hungry (I'd probably try the burger next time). My wife, who is vegetarian had the sliced beet, squash and goat cheese sandwich special which was phenomenal! All sandwiches come on awesome bread and rolls of high quality. My family members clearly loved their food choices too. I will definitely be back, I just hope their prices don't go up much more so I can go more often! read more

How exciting to discover this wonderful find while driving home from Keene State College. From the name, you would never know that it is "farm to table" and practically gourmet! We sat outside at a picnic table, delighting in our drinks (I got a flight of beers and cider and was happy with every one of them!) and a couple of games of backgammon while we waited. My grilled shrimp tacos were delicious and large enough that I had to let the kid finish them. We will be back FOR SURE! Especially now that the kid will be attending KSC (which, apparently, the owners did as well)... Tucked away across the street from the local Walpole Ocean States Job Lots and Shaws is this wonderful outpost of culinary luxury. Let me tell you - just stop in. Just do it - you won't be disappointed!! I love stopping in at breweries for craft beer and while they don't brew you won't be disappointed by the selection of local and regional choices. On the hot day we stopped in a some cold DIPAs slacked a motorcycle ride thirst. You must have the "Pickle Jar" to start out. It'll be full of zesty goodness from whatever they've been fermenting. Ours had a maple pickled Jicama along with some surprising others. I can't say "delicious" all the time but just shove that word in for everything and you'll be accurate. Three Little Pigs sandwich with the purple slaw is a "can't miss" as is the Chicken Sausage grinder - if it's on the Specials menu. Top it off with some local ice cream- or a banana split if you're lucky - and you'll have used the "D" word quite a lot. This place is great to come with kids. We stopped on the trip home from VT to CT. They large outdoor seating in front is spacious. There are swings for kids and a super cool "house" under the shrubs near the swings. The kids spent almost the entire time in there. Note that there are exits out of the shrub house in the back and the business next to it is a drive-thru. So children/parents must be careful that they don't go out that way. We told them only through the front fence. The drink lists is nice. I had a cider and spiked seltzer which were both good. Friends had a mule on the special list and another draft beer. All good! I've cream for kids and yummy food! Bathrooms are very clean and everyone is super friendly and accommodating! We will definitely be back. read more

First let me say we were a party of 6 adults and 4 children. We are from Massachusetts and we we're heading north for a day of sledding and fun. We looked around for a place for lunch and we saw this place online. We saw that it was farm owned and farm to table food. It is a couple of miles off the highway but let me tell you it's very much worth the trip. The food was fantastic! We all could not have been more pleased with the food. Nice place to go, dog friendly with indoor and outdoor seating. Much more of a tourist place vs local as the menu is pretty pricey vs typical pub fare. Menu prices - as with other places have increased.. $38 for a burger, iced tea and a beer. I like the idea that business pay for health care and benefits, but at these prices ($20- burger) you would think that they don't need to add that as an extra fee vs being included in the price.
