We've been to Fat Crow in Newfane several times and always enjoy the food. The menu has a great selection, and on this visit we loved the wood-fired pizza--the crust had a nice char and great flavor. The warm pretzels with dipping sauces were also a hit. In the past, we've had the fish tacos and really enjoyed those as well. The restaurant has a fun Vermont atmosphere, and the bar area and visible pizza oven add a lot to the ambience. My only drawback is the seating. Much of it consists of long, shared tables, which isn't our favorite setup and can make the dining experience feel a little less comfortable or intimate. That said, the food keeps us coming back. There aren't a lot of tables, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation, especially at a busy time. Great spot for pizza, drinks, and casual food when you're in the Newfane area! read more

Still an awesome place! They make a lot of what they serve from scratch; including the pretzel dipping sauces. The pretzels were cooked perfectly! My wife's salad was really good. The pizza was really good as well. Take a look at the pics; they speak for themselves. This is a great local spot with a cool vibe and some really awesome motorcycles on display. Don't hesitate to sit at the bar as you'll have an amazing view of the wood fired oven and can chat with one of the chefs. The menu is expansive and worth exploring! Good selection, Good food, fair prices, with friendly and efficient servers. We love that they take reservations; the place is almost always full so it is not likely one can wait at the bar! The Crow has a lively atmosphere, so conversation can be challenging. A recent visit after ownership changed had us ordering fish tacos, a strip steak, and ribs. Presentation was very good. Tacos and Steak were great. The ribs were not as good as at prior visits - the server could see that they were not "fall off the bone" and comped us on that entree. I passed this place a lot on my way to Stratton Ski Resort, but this was the first time I've had the chance to stop in, and it was a really good find! The staff was very friendly, and I had a very enjoyable night. Sat at the bar, in front of the tap and next to the motorcycle decor. Started off with a flight of beers, before deciding on a Valley beer, which matched my taste. Had the bass special, which was quite flavorful and cooked almost to perfection. Had the crème brûlée cheesecake, which was delicious. I enjoyed all of their food (and beer), so I will definitely stop here again! read more

Finally visited this Newfane, VT restaurant on a Friday night after driving by it for the past 10 (?) years. Amazing pizza, cocktails, beer and other goodies in a barn-ish setting. Reservation is absolutely required (at least for peak times). I only wish it was open on Sundays so I could eat there in my way back to Boston after a weekend of skiing at Stratton. read more

What a fun place to go. I would recommend making reservations. We took a chance because it seemed like it wouldn't have been busy that time of year. Beginning of October, we were wrong. There were three of us and the wait was one hour. We indicated that it was too long of a wait we would come back. We were almost to our car. On a drizzly day, we drove 20 minutes to come here just for the food. And boy the Fat Crow did not disappoint. Here's what we ordered: Steamed Little Neck Clams, Margarita Pizza, Lobster Bisque, New England Clam Chowder, and the Squirrel Burger (Vegan). We were so hungry, forgot to take pictures of our food so I only have a picture of the New England clam chowder. We did not make reservations ahead of time and so we could only order take out and sit outside on the picnic tables under the tents. You get a pager that buzzed when your food is ready. This is the best restaurant in Newfane. I know that's not saying much since Newfane is such a dinky little hamlet, but this restaurant is damn good! Our waitress was excellent. The food was quite tasty, generous, and the drinks from the bar were just right. But on top of that all, they play great music too - not crappy so-called "classic rock" songs that you've heard 400 too many times anyway! It's too bad that this restaurant can't be open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner. read more

My family had a delightful meal at the Fat Crow, a gastropub with an excellent tap list in Southern Vermont. The aesthetics of the space are industrial garage but the service is very homey. We were at Mount Snow for the weekend and someone recommended this place. They said make sure you make a reservation. I called on a Wednesday to make a res for that Saturday and they were almost all booked! Definitely make a reservation in advance asap. Cool ambiance and decor. We couldn't decide what we wanted so we shared a bunch of stuff knowing we would take food home. We tried the cod fish tacos, mussels, egg plant fries, and a spicy oil cheese pizza. Everything was so delicious. Im not usually a fish taco fan but they were actually my favorite. Perfectly fresh and crispy but not greasy. Wish we could have tried everything! I also want to say that the staff was very friendly. There was a gentleman in a black chef coat who i thought might have been the owner was even helping the servers clean tables to get everyone seated in timely manner. I have been to the Crow many times now over the years. I recently heard from friends who visit on a regular basis Did you hear what happened on Thursday day night? The review identified how many pizzas had been given to customers they thought were over cooked. I don't know who was at the pizza station, but if it was that Sean and the tall guy they make New Haven Style pizza so if you can think on what to do when ordering a pizza from the Crow, you should probably realize the quality of cooks who actually know what they're doing and if you want a blonde under cooked thin crust pizza I suggest you stay home and save your money. Instead, you can put ketchup on a flour Torita, sprinkle a little molded cheese on it and heat it up in your toaster oven! What is up with the guy walking around the place with a solo cup of whisky and yelling at young kids who do the best they can. Doesn't he care that he operates in the public view? The latest news is he just got popped for DUI. Now that's something to be proud of. At any rate I won't be back, I think I'll stay in Westport CT and travel to New Haven the next time I want a real pie. read more

Extremely rude front line staff. They wanted to charge a fee for a reservation! Unreal! I can eat in NYC for less money. I asked why there was a fee for a reservation and they said it was required for parties of 6 or more. Outrageous and totally not acceptable. They should just close if they don't want customers. EXCELLENT! We stopped in here on our drive across Vermont. The place is fairly small but the staff was fast and friendly, food delicious, and portions huge. We had a 4 beer tasting, the pretzel appetizer, fish and chips and a pepperoni pizza. It was too much food but all of it was very good. Our waitress was nice, accurate and quick with our order. We were driving home from Vermont and my last stop was meeting a distant relative for the first time. After leaving, the GPS directed us out towards Route 30 South. We knew we were going to be driving through Newfane and when I saw the Fat Crow I said to my other half we have to stop because our friends Jimmy and Joanne eat here often. we arrived for an early dinner and we both decided to share the pizza with all the meats on it. When it came it look like a pizza that came from Connecticut and I had texted a picture to my friend Jimmy who was home at the time. He told me the owner used to own a restaurant in Fairfield, CT so he knows what good pizza is! It was as good as any pizza I had in Connecticut. Great food for what I could eat. For a person with a shellfish allergy it was a huge disappointment that they don't separate the shellfish from the French fry's and the only substitute not fried was a side salad. With the meal already coming with coleslaw it was frustrating that I could only have a side salad and they didn't have something else like rice or mashed potatoes. Another thing that subtracted from the experience was all the dust on the metal grate platform above the table. Service was alright but they didn't come around and offer to refill our drinks.
