The storm of August 2nd, 2018 toppled my Chilean mesquite tree onto my yard. While a lot of it was cut up, I couldn't find anyone to respond within weeks to get it hauled off and one quote from another company was $1,000! I called The Hungry Tree and they said that they could schedule me in 9 days later. When I asked about an estimate, they requested a photo and the arborist, Juan Martinez, said he would stop by to quote a price. Within 20 minutes, he quoted me a much lower price and said that he could do the work right then if I wanted. Within 35 minutes, the tree was gone, everything was picked up, and the front yard was clean. I am beyond happy and Juan Martinez and his hard working crew saved the day! I used Angie's List and the Hungry Tree had the best record of all other tree trimmers listed with 4.9 out of perfect 5. I called and ask for estimate and Juan (also an arborist) came out same day with an estimate that was very reasonable. I asked for next available for trimming two large trees in backyard. His team came out three days later (8/11/22). His team were professional and respectful and Juan came by and assisted his team. They were outstanding with the entire process and cleanup including cleaning pool from branches and leaves that fell in. I've used Juan's excellent services to keep my trees in great shape for 5 or more years. Last year he saved my favorite tree, a huge cascalote which is a splendid specimen, 10+ years old. I feared I'd lose it when so many of its leaves began to drop but his treatment saved it to look great still... Juan from The Hungry Tree came to trim our overgrown ficus tree and deep root feed all the other trees on our property. I am amazed at how beautifully the ficus tree turned out. Now I wish the tree was in front of our home--not in the backyard. Thanks for also adding stakes to one of our newly planted trees. I'm sure it'll stand up to the monsoon season. Typical bait and switch. We needed a tree removed after a storm. They had us email them pictures. I sent a bunch of pictures from different angles and distances to give a very good idea of the project. The price estimated was fair and we scheduled a day and time. The day finally arrives, only Juan doesn't arrive with his crew, as they indicated in the previous night's call. Instead it was just him telling me that the tree is much larger than he expected. Then what were the pictures for? They were very accurate and included our house and cars for scale. He goes on telling me about how much bigger the tree is, how much more it will cost him at the landfill, etc. Even the prices that he was telling me about the landfills were a lie. (You know we can check landfill prices, right?) The quote went from 900 to 1400! How much bigger was the tree? We knew that the quote could vary a little bit, but that is a crazy jump. We had other companies come out and give real in-person quotes and NONE of them were even close to the new "estimate" from Juan. Oh, and that work that was suppose to be done that day, now couldn't be done for almost another week, even if I was a big enough sucker to go for the new price. It felt like they know everyone has trees down, being monsoon season, and they just don't care. Since they have people lined up for a week or two they can afford to jack up the prices on arrival. I'm sure plenty of people are stuck in bad situations with their trees being down and they have little choice. Really shady. We emailed and left a voicemail after he left this morning which went completely unanswered. All of their actual price quotes were given by phone and in person, not in writing. I cannot recommend doing any business with this company. There are others out there with much more integrity. read more

I have had the pleasure of knowing Juan since 2001. I have commission them to plant large fruit trees numerous irrigation systems, planning various plants, trimming trees, and fertilization of all plants and trees. I myself own a multimillion dollar company and so I demand professionalism from my own employees and for the people that I engage. In short when you make an appointment with the Hungry Tree they show up on time, they do the job with great Professionalism, and they have a very reasonable price.
