Better than ever rink, now, that there are 2 yes TWO sheets of ice at Northwoods for hockey, figure skating, private and public. Bravo!

Price: $16 public at certain times and last Saturday was crowded but always worth it here. From 7 wi 9:30 I think. We had to come here after a rip off experience at the rock La Cantera with glice. This place is huge. They have a store, and fast food area, first aid, lockers for $5 rent. There's are bleachers and central heated wait room by the bleachers if you get cold. Restrooms are ok. Huge ice rink. Got to watch real ice hockey practice before they opened for oublic. And they smoothen before the public's ice skating which was very cool. Music was cool. I'd recommended this place more than other ice ski rink tbh. More than worth your money and high valued location to ice skate. read more

Beware before you go, the mini golf is completely destroyed, all the ponds were out of water, the turf is ripped almost impossible to play and they are still charging full price. The ice skating is fun but the employees run into kids and horse play when they are supposed to be the ones enforcing the rules. My youngest son likes to go ice-skating, and this is a great place to do it. Inside they have the ice-skating rink, they have a little restaurant. I haven't eaten at the restaurant so I cannot review it. But it looks pretty good. They have a place to buy ice skates, hockey sticks, etc. They also have a mini golf course that I have not tried. It is my understanding that they're open all year round. The admission is around $10, but don't forget you have to rent the skates also. They were about $4 dollars. If you don't want to ice skate it's OK you can watch from the restaurant, or you can watch from upstairs. They do have to clean the ice about every hour so be aware that you will have to get off the ice while they clean it. It is not open for public skating all day long so make sure you look up the schedule before you go. I will be going several times this year. I would recommend you go as well. It is good family fun. Lots of parking. Very clean The staff and regulars are very close and stick together. If you are an outside beware. I saw a coach attack a customer who was in his 30's that has Autism. Staff stuck together and management has continued to allow this raged coach continue to Work with kids. Also the cop that works there also closely involved and biased. What a shame Lots of parking. Went to play miniature golf last night. I was there a month ago. There were leaves everywhere. Couldn't the manager have one of the three employees hanging around behind the service counter sweep? The husband and I moved to San Antonio recently, tried the outdoor rank and it was horrible, so we found this place. Honestly we love skating so much we are going to continue to go often. However, there should be a max capacity of how many people can be on the ice at once. It is WAYYYYYYY too over crowded for public skating, there is not a max. There's people that have NEVER skated before and the crowds make it extremely dangerous for anyone. We shouldn't have to dodge each other because there are so many different levels of skaters. If you fall chances are it's so packed someone is going to run them over and create more of a collision not knowing how to stop. I do love that it's not timed as well but maybe it should be to have a Max capacity on the ice. The ice gets extremely rough very quickly after the Zamboni is ran makes it hard to skate. But it's cheap, the rentals are decent, and they sell food, and even skating/hockey gear which is super nice for people wanting to be more serious. read more

I can't compare this place to any other as I am not an ice skater so this review is definitely from the point of view of a novice. Price is fair. I believe we paid $11 for entry and rental. Skates remind me of ski boots and just like ski boots they hurt. Not comfortable what so ever but again as a novice is this typical ? Who knows! My daughter had lace up skates and she says they did not hurt. The rink is large enough to avoid pumping into others. None of the other skaters were rambunctious or annoying (had a bad experience in a roller skate rink once) so I was able to skate with my daughters comfortably. As a novice I had no idea to take warm cloth. I had a short sleeve blouse which was fine but my hands were frozen. A word to the wise TAKE GLOVES! Oh and maybe extra socks. Not because my feet froze but for extra padding ... again, the skates are VERY UNCOMFORTABLE!! Overall skating experience was fun. Wouldn't mind trying it again with why own tips for a more comfortable experience. read more

Great for ice rink activities - skating and ice hockey. Friendly staff. However, only basic low-quality food options such as nachos or frito pies - stuff cooked in a microwave at best. And their bathrooms seem like they are never cleaned - disgusting. If they upgraded their food options and cleaned their bathrooms, they might be bordering on 5 stars. Decided to come here while staying in San Antonio. I had never ice skated before, but we were bored and it was a very hot day so being in a cool ice filled room sounded very appealing at the time. Overall I enjoyed the experience. The service was friendly and helpful and the establishment itself seemed clean and well run. The ice seemed rather rough, but perhaps that's to be expected coming late on a busy day. The skates I rented also seemed a bit dull, but maybe it was for the best that they weren't too sharp, seeing as I had never skated before. read more

I am pretty sure they are the only ICE RINK in town, and they are two rinks in one. They have recreational ice hockey leagues and they also have instruction for those wanting to learn how to skate or play hockey. I also understand they have real golf and mini golf. Good place to have a kids birthday party, I see them having them there all the time. They also have an arcade and it's right behind a movie theater and close to lot's of restaurants. I hadn't skated in forever, but The Ice & Golf Center made my first experience skating in a while a good one! The person handing out skates was very kind, even though I had to change my skates three times. The place seems pretty cool i don't like that they advertise poorly about the hours of business. We had to go back to this place twice just to make sure our kids got a chance to skate. Also as a Hispanic family this place gave me a racist vibe honesty we walked in the first time and everyone stared at us as if we didn't belong then when i went to ask questions the lady was very short with her answers and gave me the you don't belong her attitude went back the second time i am not one to let you think you'll win in situations like that so we went back and got our skate on but after getting it out of our system we'll never be back . We came here for a birthday party and the kids had so much, we came back the next day with the whole family. My complaints are this: 1) the staff is unfriendly and they all act like they would rather be elsewhere. 2) The day of the party, I wanted a diet soda. They have none on fountain, the diet drinks are all bottles. So I bought a bottled drink and asked for a cup of ice. The kid working charged me for the bottled drink and then also for a full priced small drink. My total was $5.50 for one drink. 3) the day that we came back with the whole family, my husband wanted a beer. I was told by the kid working, "we can't sell any beer right now because the manager is doing a party and none of us are old enough to sell alcohol". 4) lastly, I asked a man at the skate rental counter if my daughter needed to turn in her skates to go upstairs and then just check them out again when she comes down. He said "well, we are closing in a few minutes anyway". This was at 2:50. I said oh I thought y'all closed at 3:30? He said "oh yeah we do, well I thought it was close to 3:30". Fun place to learn how to skate and go with some friends for a while, I've always enjoyed it here

We took our family of 6 to the ice rink for our daughters 10th birthday. She loves the place! Our youngest got hurt and the staff was beyond helpful. Kerry and another gentleman helped our 4YO forget about the pain by engaging in conversation as they bandaged her up. They were so helpful and caring. I took my younger sisters here to try out ice skating. 10 bucks for admission and skates. Big building. It was so much fun! I had a great time. Definitely not a place if you don't like loud kids or kids in general. They are everywhere, even behind the counters haha but it was all good. Nice place to do something different. read more

Clean, good family fun! A nice change from the movies, trampoline parks and laser tag for kids.... wow, killer exercise too. $11.00 includes skates from 6:30-9:30. Tonight (Friday) was pretty crowded which we expected. However, I wish there was more enforcement towards expert speed skaters who "swoosh" past you, knocking you over. My daughter (tiny frame) got knocked over three times this way. Ouch. :o( There are many vending machines, a mini arcade and also a small "restaurant" offering hot dogs, Frito pie, nachos, pretzels, Slushies etc. etc. The prices were actually quite reasonable compared to the movie theater. We also saw an indoor soccer field (not sure what it's used for) - and, an upstairs viewing room for adults that's more relaxed. No outside food/drinks allowed... I had to pitch my Starbucks drink here but a woman had a whole table covered with Pei Wei, serving her family?? No fair :( read more

Ice Sheet in San Antonio you ask? Why YES! Not only is this a great skating rink with skate rentals, but they have ice skating lessons for all levels, figure skaters and a hockey league! If you want to just watch the figure skaters or the hockey players go and do their thing it is free to watch (yay!). The mini golf is basic, yes but it is cute, clean and safe as can be. They have a small arcade inside but I have not played any of the games. The second ice sheet has been turned into an indoor soccer field, so check the schedule for open skate times. There is a snack bar downstairs that has a friendly staff, but my favorite place to go is upstairs. They have a snack bar there as well with a limited menu. Worry not though, beer and wine are inculded on that limited menu. The reason I like upstairs more is the viewing area looks down on both the ice rink and the indoor soccer field so you get 360 degree entertainment! It is also air conditioned/heated to a comfortable temperature at all times. The shop there is not the best in the world with quite a limited selection but hey... this is San Antono, what can be expected right? If you are a veteran skater you will probably want to order things online, but if you are just out to have fun the shop is perfect. Go. Skate. Enjoy! read more

This is the only ice skating place in San Antonio and let me tell you it needs to be used MORE! it's so much fun to go skating here. The center is used for things other then just joe shmos like me to go skate in. There is a hockey league that plays here ant they are separated from the amateurs like me. It's a great place to take a date for sure and it wouldn't break your bank. It's quick and cheap to get some good skates and have a good cool time. It can get a little crazy in there, especially when it gets colder and it's on the weekends. I would recommend getting in there sometime during the week and enjoying yourself. read more

The soccer is terrible. They'll take your money, but won't let certain kids play in the championship game (with no explanation, and you don't find out until right before). They are biased towards certain teams. They will make up new rules to penalize the other teams. The refs can make any mystery calls they want to give another team a free kick. Teams are allowed to cheat and use older kids, and they do nothing about it. The bathrooms are disgusting. There are little kids running around like maniacs, and if you tell the employees, they do nothing about it. There is no handicap seating available for soccer and hockey games. read more

I came here on a date with my husband. We had a coupon for buy one miniature golf game, get one free. So we went on weeknight and it was definitely not busy at all. We were able to play without having people wait for us to move so they could play. Cute course. It's not the hugest, most extravagant thing ever, but there are two 18 hole courses. There were a lot of teenyboppers, but that's to be expected. I recommend not going if the temperature is in the 90s or up. read more

Worst experience ever with soccer league. Don't enroll your team there unless you just want to loss your time and your money...

My 6 year old wanted to play mini golf. I wanted to take her to a place that wasn't over run by questionable characters and dilapidated courses where you find yourself not really wanting to touch anything. Do you hear me Malibu? I'm talking about YOU. The mini golf, as another Yelper said (shout out Kiya S.) is indeed very basic. There are small but not obtrusive obstacles on the greens, some pretty steep hills, but nothing in the way of your traditional windmills and castles, or the occasional clown that you try to choke to death with a golf ball. This isn't to say fun can't be had, it certainly can, however I found this course lending itself more to the parent who wants to practice their putting in a place where kids are welcome. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, however if you're looking for an actual mini golf experience, this really isn't the place. The rate was $7 per person for 18 holes or $10 a person for 36 which for a nice and clean course where you're not having to look over your shoulder worried about a couple of stupid teenagers throwing down, and to not worry about walking out of the place with MRSA, isn't bad at all. read more

I am glad I decided to learn how to ice-skate because it is fun but there are many many things this place could do better. The skates are trash (had cuts on my ankles one day), the new lockers may be less of a hassle but it's an obvious cash grab going from 50 cents to 3 dollars to rent one. Golf course is a side event to try once, never again (very bland, noone cares about it), Also there should be more rules and regulations for the better skaters who splash ice on everyone. In reality it's a 3/5 but I feel they are taking advantage of the fact that they have no competition in SA and that is an ingredient for laziness and lack of trying. read more

Only ice sheet in SA. Luckily it's a fantastic location. Wish it had more public skating in the evenings, other than Wed, Fri, and Sat. Management do a great job keeping the location looking clean, well maintained, and all the staff is professional. The skate shop has a good variety of gear, priced a little more expensive than Amazon or online skate shops, but that is to be expected. The skate rentals that are provided are on par with every other shop in the US, and they keep the blades sharp. read more
