This is personally my favorite Geneseo bar. It's a cool atmosphere with taxadermied jackolopes hanging on the wall and a mix of college students and townies drinking, playing pool and playing darts. The Idle Hour is a touch more expensive than the other college bars, but I think it's worth it. Particularly of note are the dirty waters. In a dirty water is every type of clear alcohol--gin, vodka, tequila, rum topped off with a bacardi lemonade (it used to be a mikes hard lemonade) and a flavor shot of your choice. It's delicious and somehow you barely taste the alcohol. They come in a lemonade pitcher with multiple straws and are big enough to share. more dive for your dollars kiddies....thought i would wrap this whole crawl up. college dive done juuuuuussst a bit outside the strike zone. i was here off season, albeit, with a older generation of the same types, but filled this place, layout is a mess, not as loud, which is still pretty loud. dart paths everywhere, and wtf is that mens bathroom/closet? no latch either brah's? still likely would have been here if this was where i landed up for undg. read more

In my opinion the best bar in Geneseo, a nice dive bar with great history. The staff is nice and the prices are on par with the other bars in the town. If you go order a dirty water, it's a staple and a must have item. read more

The bar tends were really rude and ruined my friends 21st. They insisted it wasn't her birthday yet because they thought it was at midnight that night... after they checked her ID. Felt obligated to make a page for the Idle! The lack of a review on yelp seemed like the Idle was like the Geneseo, nightlife, bar version of Platform 9 3/4... you don't know about this place unless you have a buddy enlighten you. Most of the time, I can't breathe here because everyone's on top of each other... it's that cramped. This place is home of the dirty water by the way. Blue raspberry... yum :) Props to whoever can list what exactly goes in a dirty water, by the way, because I really don't know. read more

There's a level of expectation set for dive bars. The Idle Hour in particular is most likely what you'd expect for a college bar. The vibe is totally that of a college Main Street and is usually filled with a mix of students and locals. I usually come here when I come visit my sister who lives in the area. Any time we've visited this bar, it's empty because it's off season for the college calendar. I actually like that it's been less crowded, it leaves room to play pool or darts and just have space to sit at a table. One of the reasons that people keep coming back to the Idle Hour is because of their signature 'Dirty Water' drink. It's a mixture of rum, vodka, and a mike's hard. It comes with multiple straws for sharing, and it's a challenge to drink it on your own! I believe it's about 4 drinks in one. I tried a Blue Dirty Water and it was definitely worth while, glad I shared it though! Something odd about the outdoor area: it's an exit only, and you're not supposed to be outside with drinks. It appears to be a patio and because it wasn't crowded, the bartender told us we could go outside. Sort of strange, but not a huge deal. The people were nice. The vibe wasn't bad. The old hag behind the bar on the other hand...not so much. Wouldn't kill ya to smile? She kept checking our Ids every time we got another drink as well. It became so annoying that I had my boy friend order my drinks so I didn't have to talk to her. read more

I don't hate the idle hour... with that being said, there is one bartender that I despise, she is fat old and has curly brown hair... she is slow, has no understanding of what customer service is, she is the worst she has ruined many nights at the idle hour for me and my friends with her piss poor attitude and minimal service skills. If I was in charge of the idle hour I would fire her immediately. She is giving the bar a bad reputation. I hope she has as miserable of a life as she projects onto her guest. I will come back only when she isn't behind the bar..... SHE IS TERRIBLE. read more

Had a bad experience last night going here with a group of friends for the first time last night. The bouncer was on a super power trip and let all of us in the bar except for my one female friend. We are all well over 21. But because she wasn't paying with a credit card he claimed her I'd was fake. Sorry we must live In a world now where cash isn't just acceptable?. Maybe if you can't determine a fake id from a real one you shouldnt be a bouncer. Either way we all ended up leaving and you last a group of 7s business. Way to go. read more

I've never been to this quaint college town before. I tried to go to the IB but some girl threatened to call the cops and said she lives there now. I then tried to go to the Vital but was very confused when I walked into a Mexican restaurant. I heard Kelly's is unique but it's under construction...so I ended up here. I spun a wheel, drank dirty water and went home with a chubby frat guy. 4 stars. read more

The worst bar I have been to in a long time. The staff was extremely rude and unreasonable their drinks were not close to the worth of the high price they charge for the dive bar they are. Go to kellys, statesman or the vital. read more
