We stopped in to Bar-Eat-O on our drive today and we were very pleased. We found them to have a wide selection of meats, fish, and tofu with delicious toppings. The meats and tofu tasted like they were slow cooked for hours with rich flavor. All the toppings were fresh. Salsa and queso were really fantastic with our chips. This place is way more legit than it's fast casual appearance would let on. We will definitely return when driving through the area. read more

A Chipotle style like restaurants but a little upscale with its cool vibes especially that it has a bar with taps and bottles available. A descent place for dining , pricing is favorable and the food is good. Friendly staff. Lucky that they are open late on the day of visit ( holiday) with all its honesty. read more

Went here with my friends recently and it was a great time. Something about a Saturday night hanging out with the boys, eating burritos, drinking, and throwing darts really hit the spot. Only thing I would say about it is that it's a little pricey for a burrito that doesn't exactly satisfy big eaters like myself and friends, but the place is an essential stop if you're looking for a great time with your buddies Also music playlist was phenomenal. read more

A great college Mexican joint!!! Only steps away from SUNY Geneseo this place serves some excellent food quickly and at a good price. I took advantage of their taco special and ordered three different kinds. The American beef option was a bit basic and the least flavorful but I should have guessed by the name. The other two I ordered were the tequila pork (very good) and the beef barbacoa (fantastic!!!!!). I dressed all of them up with a variety of toppings and sauces. Our visit was while the university was not in session so it was pretty empty but I am guessing this place must be really popular with the college students! Definitely will be back!! read more

It is probably a good spot for a bar and a place to to hang out but we did not come here for that. We came to eat tacos and churros which unfortunately were a big disappointment. The churros, 2 burrito bowls and a kids taco kit that we ordered did not taste good at all. The churros were drenched in sugar while the churros itself just had no flavor. The chicken on the kids meal was very sweet and the pork on the burrito bowls were simply blah. I eat a lot of tacos and Mexican food and this place does not serve good Mexican food at all. I wanted to really like this place, but the food was just okay. We stopped here for dinner as it was one of the only places open on a Tuesday night while we were staying nearby at the fingerlakes. The vibes are very cool inside, but I think the food is not nearly as good as moes, chipotle or qdoba. For one, we were told that they were out of carnitas and barbacoa (which is what we all wanted) so I had to ask for beef instead. Didn't realize it was ground beef, so that was disappointing, and right after he spooned it onto my bowl they got more barbacoa. I told them I would have preferred that and the employee, while nice, just offered to put it on top (when really I should have been offered a new bowl all together, especially since they made it seem like they were out for the night, not that they would have more shortly. I would have waited). The beans and rice were pretty standard, nothing special. Normal selection of other toppings. They were out of cilantro, which was a bummer. We got guac and queso on the side. Both were clearly not made in-house (the guac tasted like the kind you get premade sealed at the store, more just mushed up avocado with preservatives) and the queso tasted like the kind from a jar. This place is new to the Geneseo bar scene. It's pretty much a Chipotle, if Chipotle had a bar. The food is actually better than Chipotle and they have more options and things like quinoa. It's a bummer that they close at 10pm since they replaced a bar that was open til all hours of the night. We had tequila sunrises and they were $2.75 each, which coming from NYC was amazingly cheap. They weren't very good though. My friend said hers was strong, but I didn't think mine was, it was just super sweet, so much so that I couldn't finish it. My other friend got a margarita and I believe it was $6, which still seems reasonable. read more

My sister has been talking about Bar-Eat-O since it opened, so naturally on my visit we decided to go there for dinner. I was so excited to try this place and am really glad I did. The restaurant has a very hip vibe and has a really relaxed ambiance. There is a bar in the back of the restaurant that is fully stocked. I was totally into the music selections; 00s pop punk and alternative was what we listened to. We both ordered burritos and I was able to sample the beef barbacoa. It was delish, but I went for pulled chicken instead. I didn't realize the pulled chicken had a brown sugar glaze which wasn't really to my liking, but that's just personal preference. My burrito consisted of the pulled chicken, rice, queso, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole. I was so hungry that I dug right in and didn't get a photo. The meal was so filling and I was totally satisfied. Next time I will probably try a different protein. Overall, friendly staff and awesome food! read more

Like Chipotle, but better. More options, more flavor, ad better service. As a vegetarian transitioning to vegan, it can be difficult to find tasty options in or around Geneseo. Bar-Eat-O is an exception. As my husband and I are older, we felt slightly awkward as we went there while the college was in session and were the only people over the age of 25. However, no one treated us strangely or gave us odd looks. We will definitely be back. read more

Sorry, this was a fail IMO. In all fairness, it was Alumni weekend with thousands of alum in town and the place was slammed all day. Knowing this, we did an order on Chow Now and app said it would be ready in 30 minutes. Went and sat outside until app said food was ready. Upon entering I realized they hadn't even started preparing the food! Took another 20 min. We could have had faster service by ordering at the counter. While the others in my party said the food was fine, my burrito was just so-so. Nothing special, not tasty at all. Complained to manager and he blamed a problem with the app. Requested refund of tip, he said I'd get it back on card in a couple of days. Not going back. read more

I was in town for my reunion, and while I enjoyed the bar that used to be there, I wasn't too sad to see it replaced by this place. The food was decent, if not overly memorable. Ordering food has a "Chiptole clone" vibe, which is fine. The drink service left something to be desired as each trip to the bar was a wait, but I guess it was summer in a college town (albeit the reunion weekend, so maybe staff a bit more...). I couldn't help but wonder what happens with the single stall ladies room when it's busy. That didn't seem like a great choice to reduce stalls, in my book. read more

With family on college tour at SUNY Geneseo and tour guide recommended this restaurant. Chipotle concept but a little more upscale. I had the flour tacos and meat was very flavorful and the staff bent over backwards to make are we happy. Rest of the family had salad bowls and they loved it. They also have a full bar. This is such a wonderful edition to Geneseo! The is the local version of chipotle, but so much better. They have different options that give the restaurant its own unique character. They have cane-sugar options for a (marginally) healthier alternative to traditional sodas, quinoa in addition to rice, and lots of fresh salsa options in addition to a fantastic full-service bar! As a SUNY Geneseo alumni, I was sad to hear that The Vital had been replaced. But, I was happy about my experience at Bar-Eat-O. I came here for my birthday on a Saturday evening in late-May with some of my fellow alumni friends. The staff was extremely helpful, personable, and friendly. Just like The Vital, Bar-Eat-O gives out birthday mugs, and you can drink draft beer or margaritas all evening at 1/2 price. Overall, I would recommend the restaurant and will definitely be returning. read more

This is a quaint little Restaurant right outside of the SUNY Geneseo gate. They serve Mexican food and you order at the counter, they fill your order as you ask for it then you take it to your table. The food we had was good but my major complaint is that the cook was wandering around in front of and behind the bar AND in the kitchen with no mask on! This was disturbing, especially since we are now hearing that Covid 19 is speaking! The girls Working behind the food counter were all wearing masks so I am not sure what gave the gook the idea he should not be wearing one. We liked our lunch but we will probably not go back in there until long after Covid is a thing of the past. read more

The people who worked here were A-MAZ-ING, seriously! Both the boy who made me the burrito, and the beautiful bartender who made me a ~rather strong drink~ I love this place, but my only complaint is the guacamole it tastes like pure play doh, and for a few dollars extra, it's just NOT worth the price. I'm disappointed that a fast food place like Taco Bell had better guacamole than bar eat o. Hopefully next time I visit ol' genny, the guacamole will be improved. read more

Great casual eats. A limited selection of dishes, but you build your meal - several different proteins - both animal and plant based selections, add in rice or quinoa, a selection of beans, cold veggies, and salsas. So an almost unlimited set of combinations. Build a salad, nacho plate, or burrito. They offer a daily special and a good selection of fountain beverages. There is also a full service adult beverage bar for those of legal age. The portions were very generous - everyone in our group went home with leftovers. The staff was very friendly, service was quick but none of us felt rushed. All of our questions were answered, and we were encouraged to come again. All in all a very pleasant experience. read more

Update--- My husband asked to go here for his birthday yesterday. All six of us arrived to a completely empty establishment with two employees behind the counter. (It's winter break for SUNY Geneseo). It. Was. Awful. The pork looked like it was all ends and pieces of trimmed down pork shoulder swimming in a broth colored liquid. The guac was BROWN. One employee told the other not to charge us for it because the quality was so poor and the presentation even worse. (C'mon, don't serve crap... Just say you're out of it.) The hottest salsa, which my 14 year old son got had little flavor, but managed to hurt his tongue and face... So it's hot, but has no flavor backstory to it. Most of us got burrito bowls. They were less than half full with the fixings in it. Even chipotle fills the bowl with cheap rice, lettuce, etc. So, sadly, my review has been drastically downgraded from 4 stars to 1. OLD REVIEW: I'm giving it four stars, but fully recognize that missing 5th star is probably my own fault because I didn't take advantage of all they offered for toppings. I'm gluten free, and they offer corn shells as an option. I just assumed they would be soft corn shells, not crispy. So I was a little off my game when they thru that at me. But, the crispy shells didn't disappoint. They were thin enough to yield easily when bitten, but managed to stay crispy after filled with protein. I got one chicken and one barbacoa beef. The chicken is shredded, not big lumps of cubed meat. And, I am not certain, but would venture to guess the chicken is organic because it didn't have that rubbery feel to it. The beef was also shredded and tasted like slow cooked, homemade food should. They were both nice bases. Here's where I shorted myself... I didn't take advantage of the toppings. I was overwhelmed with my heathen offspring who were distracting me and didn't add all I could have. I should have filled those crispy shells full, but didn't. I put pico on the beef and verde w/ jack on the chicken. I skipped the lime, cilantro, corn, etc etc etc. They offer rice or quinoa, which I thought was brilliant, yet didn't take advantage of it. I skipped the beans (why, oh why?) and kept right on walking to the interesting choices for soda. Which, btw, is made from cane sugar, not high fructose corn syrup. My son has a milk/soy protein intolerance, so I brought food for him. But the manager rattled every ingredient of every component off from memory. He also knew they fry in peanut oil, which is excellent for us. I'd like to give a shout out to him for knowing his menu cover to cover. I really appreciated that! My only negative about this place is that after you've eaten at Chipotle or Moe's you come to expect heaping portions, and I just didn't get that feel looking at my plate. It seemed like the food was a little skimpy. However, I actually wonder if they didn't oversize their plates a bit, because none of us left feeling hungry. We felt full and satisfied, without any leftovers. And that's really all we wanted... A single meal, not food for days. read more

When I was last in Geneseo the locals all raved about Bar Eat O - and I see now it was all justified. Fresh Mexican fare with the emphasis on fresh. Nothing is cookie cutter and the selection of greens and starches is great - I like a little Romaine and Quinoa in my burrito. The bar area is comfortable and hosts a selection of craft beers and stouts that is lengthy and always evolving - Left Handed Milk Stout is now my go to but Flying Belgium's Illegally Blonde is catching up. A friendly and attentive staff, lively atmosphere and inside/outside dining make it a regular stop when I'm in the area. read more

Only been here once but WOW! I absolutely love the look of the place and how comfortable it is. The place was very warm and inviting. I ordered a chicken bowl and it was delicious. It has a chitpotle feel but its own signature taste for their food. The woman behind the bar with blonde hair was extremely friendly and kept her attention equally on everyone. read more
