Forget any preconceived notion of where one can find good Indian food. The Indian Oven is one of the absolute best Indian restaurants I've been to in my life. In fact I'm hesitant to share because if I have to wait for a table at a restaurant which sits next to an abandoned and boarded up "food store" (that is literally the signage next to 'restaurant' which is for Indian Oven), then I may be somewhat unpleasant to deal with. We started with Aloo Tikki with Channa and Chili Paneer. The Channa was nice and peppery (order mild if you're unaccustomed to Indian spice levels), and the Chili Paneer was delightfully tangy. The mains were lamb vindaloo and goat biryani. The goat is on the bone, so be careful. The meat is nice and tender, the sauces are super flavorful without being overwhelming, and while I wasn't super hungry when I came in, I couldn't stop eating until my date made me. We needed to eat near Weedpatch Hwy, so checking the Yelp app, I saw this place. It looks like an old truck stop. There is no sign on the outside other than "Restaurant". Don't let that fool you. It's clean inside. The servers were nice. They took our order promptly. It took a little longer than I thought to bring to our table. But that's not a problem. You know they are making it fresh. We had the Tikki Chicken Marsala. I know little about Indian Cuisine. This tasted good. I loved the spiciness of the sauce. It paired very well with the delicious naan bread. Wow I was impressed by the quality and flavor of the food coming out of the Indian Oven. My family was on a road trip driving through Bakersfield and we were looking for something other than burgers, nuggets, and fries, luckily my wife found this place on Yelp and we stopped in. The chicken vindaloo was bomb as heck and the curry chicken was also good. They made my kids a mild yellow daal and channa masala which they loved. I didn't want to give it a 4 but I will say it is a solid 4.5 for me and it's simply because of how my order came in and the fact that the Gajjar Halwa wasn't what I was expecting and they didn't have Badami Kheer. We started with Vegetable Samosa and the Fish Pakora. I have never tasted fish that the way they cooked it. It was not oily at all and was packed with so much flavor. The green sauce paired very well with the fish, but I also dumped it in the sweet sauce, and surprisingly, it went well like chicken and waffles. Very chill vibe, and I didn't hear the kitchen, which was surprising. We ordered Goat Curry, Fish Masala, Chicken Makhni, aka butter chicken, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Kabab, and Garlic Naan for our main food. Our dessert was Gajar Halwa and Gulab Jamun. To drink, I had a Mango Lassi and a Masala Chia. Fish Masala, Fish Pakora, and Sekh Kabab were, in my opinion, the tastiest of all. Not to say the rest didn't shine in their own ways. Just those three dishes did make my taste buds go crazy. The Tandoori Chicken was loved by all, and my youngest is 6 years old. The Garlic Naan was so good, and the fact that everything is freshly made is amazing. The Naan was very much appreciated because it has that authentic baked flavor. The Chicken Biryani was packed with chicken it was so fulfilling . Chicken Makhni is always a safe bet. Just dip the naan and enjoy. I did enjoy the goat curry, but I was expecting it to be a little softer not to say it was tough not saying at all but I'm mexican and the way we cooke our goat it melts in your mouth. I wish my tea came with the food and not served at the end because I would've loved to sip and taste all the flavors at once. The Mango Lassi was refreshing. It was my first time trying it. I thought it was a mango shake‍ but it's actually a yogurt ‍. Either way, it was really wonderful. I actually met the owner at work. I told him how I ate at another Indian restaurant, and he recommended I try his and I did and I'm glad because it didn't disappoint. The waitresses are very respectful, asking if they can take your plate instead of just grabbing and helping place the plates in a way to make it all fit. Food is delicious. I always order naan from there when I make Indian food at home. The place is easy to find and has a lot indoor seating. Their service is very slow... I waited 30 minutes for 4 naans, an order of 2 samosas, and medium masala chai. It's better if you call in your order and then head out. I will definitely go back though... This restaurant used to be my favourite stop driving to and back from my official trips. I ordered samosas, paneer pakora, chicken dish with basmati rice and naans. A few observations made during the trip were: 1. The place looked very messy and unclean. 2. Service was slow and I had to wait for almost 30 minutes. 3. The samosas did not taste like the authentic samosas the place had before and the filling consisted of potatoes and lentils mixed. 4. Of all the cuisines to choose from, Indian is probably one of the last ones I would think of to eat, let alone suggest for others to try with me if I'm out and about. Aside from the occasional work parties where Indian food is served to accommodate our employee base, I probably eat Indian food once a year, every other year. Working in rural Lamont, CA however, there's not much to choose from aside from your franchise fast food stops or your mom & pop Mexican restaurants. So if you're looking to add variety to your daily lunch routine, you can call to order at Indian Oven. Located in an unassuming truck stop along Weedpatch Hwy, you'd probably miss this location if you're not paying close attention. As you enter, your senses will immediately recognize the blended scents of roasted Indian spices. For my first time and being that I wanted something easy to eat like a handheld sammie, I opted for the Tandoori Chicken Wrap. I thought I'd be getting a 6-inch wrap but as you can see, the wrap was almost as long as the keyboard (shown for reference purposes). Let me tell you, this wrap weighed at least a good 3.5-4.0 lbs. As you can see from the cross section, the wrap is filled with chicken breast pieces that were sautéed with tomatoes, bell pepper, onion, and spices. You can choose from either the plain or garlic naan. I opted for the garlic naan although I didn't get much of the garlic flavor from it. Overall, the wrap was solid and had a good amount of heat. I also ordered Vegetable Samosas which are completely vegetarian. They were crispy pouches filled with mildly spiced potatoes and peas and deep fried til golden brown. It came with the green chutney and tamarind sauce for dipping. The highlight of this meal was definitely the chutney which was refreshing and packed with heat. You can taste the cilantro and mint combo which when eaten with the samosa added a burst of freshness. I found the samosa was too filling and dense. My total came out to $12.97 which is not bad for the amount of food you get. I actually just ate about 1/3 of the wrap and 1 of the samosas and I was already full. If you happen to be passing along Hwy 58 and the craving for Indian food strikes, exit Weedpatch Hwy and have yourself a snack. It can get frustrating trying order even more so on the phone as many staff members despite being nice are very difficult to understand and they don't understand you as English is not their primary language. I've really been into Indian food lately and been trying out new places. Saturday I decided to try out Indian Oven. I ordered samosas, garlic naan and chicken vindaloo. The highlight of the meal were the samosas, they were delicious. Packed full of filling and very flavorful and the green chutney is probably the best I've had at any Indian restaurant here in town lately. The naan was a miss for me, it was lacking flavor and it was a bit hard and chewy as though it was old or maybe just overbaked. The chicken vindaloo was alright, the chicken was cooked very fell, it fell apart with a fork and was nice and moist. The heat was good, it had a nice spice that I really enjoyed but the actual vindaloo sauce was sweet, I was really surprised as I've never had chicken vindaloo that starts out sweet. I didn't really care for it on that note but I did love the spicy that followed the initial hit of sweet. Overall it was an ok experience but I've had better. I might give it another go just for those samosas, I'll try a different entrée next time. read more

This was a nice surprise. They have a very full menu full of just what you would expect. All of our favorites were available, with the exception of korma. It doesn't matter, we still had plenty to select from. There were four of us. We started out with vegetable pakora, which was a full plate of a great selection of veggies. This was plenty of food to feed all four of us and take enough home for 3 of us the next day.
