I never leave reviews but this place is just too good for me not to, in a city (Bakersfield) with a seemingly endless sea of mediocre at best restaurants. My GF loves Indian food and extra spicy, but for me it's not a usually a top choice. JBV however is completely different. I'm only in Bakersfield a few days a month but I always try and squeeze in a meal at Jay Bhavani because the food is outstanding. The flavor and texture of each dish is dialed to perfection and the quality is consistently top notch. The servers are always friendly (shout out to Nirav) and they give helpful descriptions/recommendations if, like me, you aren't super familiar with the wide variety of dishes they serve. My favorites are the JB Special Dosa and Vada Pav (great for eating on the go) The food is always made to order and fresh. They also have beer on draft or glass bottled soda (the good stuff) to wash it down with. My spice tolerance is relatively high, but they do offer many dishes mild/no spice by request for those that can't handle the heat. The digs are humble so you won't mistake this place for fine dining, but the important stuff (THE FOOD and SERVICE) are right up there with the best in Bakersfield. read more

Food was very good which is why I am giving even 2 stars. The guy who waited on us kept giving wrong dishes to wrong people. We had ordered gopi paratha for kids but he gave mixed. Kids were eating we didn't know it was mixed up. He gave me gopi instead of mixed paratha and when I pointed out his mistake to him, he was saying that we should have noticed without even apologizing first. No consideration for customer at all. They rudely said they will charge us extra to fix their mistake. Money is not a big deal we would have paid but no apologies, no customer first but money first which is not great. read more

Was driving thru town and came here for lunch. The service was fairly quick. Kids liked their plain dosa. It was crispy. The dabeli was very close to the taste back home. Also got two kinds of vada pav. Bombay Vada Pav and Butter Vada Pav. Both were good, but I preferred the Bombay vada pav. Also got the sev puri which was decent. read more

It's a nice, clean ambiance with excellent vegetarian food. Though they were short staffed and there was only one person managing the counter and service, he was polite and we didn't have to wait too long for our order to arrive. The quality and taste of food was excellent. We ordered bhel puri which woke our taste buds with its sweet and spicy combination. Kids ordered grilled cheese and grilled vegetable sandwiches, which was right amount of grill, warm and non spicy suited for kids. The plain paratas were the best, so soft. The vegetable curry had good portions for two people and tasted good. Overall a pleasant eating experience at Jay Bhavani vadapav restaurant. They have some good items like veggie cheese sandwich, if you like Indian Amul cheese. Vada Pav is very flavorful. Ordered the dosa on two different occasions but both times it was very white (usually it's golden yellow-light brown color). Pav bhaji was good. Got the jamun shots they were tasty but a bit on the pricier end for a tiny shot glass portion. The falooda is good as well. read more

Awesome food and service. 100% vegetarian establishment - tons of options to choose from. Our order, Bombay Vadapav, JB special Vadapav, Dabeli, CTC special grilled sandwiches along with much needed Chai. All of them were fresh and delicious. We will surely be back to try other things on menu as they sounded promising. They also serve Panipuri in Indian style(very hygienic way though) Clean setup, including restrooms(always lacking in Indian restaurants for some reason) We took food Togo and haven't seen such a good packaging choice. If i lived in Bakersfield i would eat here every day! Food was so flavorful, spicy, fresh, and delicious. I never had this kind of food before so the gentleman was nice enough to go outside with me and let me point to the picture of what i wanted. It was called "palak paneer" and it tasted like saag paneer with heat. It came with delicious lime chutney and what tasted like fresh made bread (he called it a tortilla but he meant that figuratively not literally) it was all so good. If you love North Indian food but you wish it had a little heat, try South Indian food! My friends and I stopped up here on the drive up to Yosemite! The food here is really delicious and flavorful, especially the paneer tikka masala. We also ordered the butter pav bhaji, Manchurian fried rice, and the vegetable fried rice. For a party of eight, we ordered two of each dish.
