My husband I and spent a lovely night at the Inn and were pleasantly surprised to receive an immediate upgrade to a bigger room due to cancellations by other guests. Barb was a gracious and attentive hostess and she made sure we were comfortable and invited us to move about and enjoy all that the Inn had to offer. She gave us a great dinner recommendation and greeted us warmly the next morning with a delicious and hearty homemade breakfast. The Inn is filled with history and charm and we would certainly recommend staying here if someone loves that type of ambience! read more

First, the ambience of the location was outstanding. Peaceful running creek in the back, gorgeous grounds, and the inside of the home was gorgeous. The breakfast was wonderful even though the owner stood there and watched us eat. I would give the home and location itself 5 stars. The room we stayed in however, would be rated 1 star. We chose the room with the jetted tub to be able to enjoy it. There were pubic hairs in and around the bathtub. Anyone who cleaned this would have seen them. Also, the shower curtain had a ring topper which encompasses the entire tub. This made the shower curtain touch your skin while in the shower. The tub was very difficult to get in and out of; it could use a step. The bed---- This was the most uncomfortable $200 bed a night I have ever stayed in. We just stayed the night before at a La Quinta and it was amazingly comfortable!! It was a double bed that leaned to one side. It was uneven therefore you could sleep welll. FIND ANOTHER VENUE FOR YOUR WEDDING! I attended a wedding at THE INN AT RAGGED EDGE on 6/17/23. When I arrived, I initially thought to myself... This place is absolutely beautiful! I had arrived early to assist my family members in setting up for the reception. One of the owners, Barb, came in several times, and spoke to the family members setting up the reception, as if they were children... speaking down to them in an extremely rude fashion. It was beyond belief how rude and unprofessional this lady was over some really minor things. To take matters from "bad to worse" Barb comes in during the reception and is watching the guests and making comments to them, relative to- "watch the floors, don't set your drinks down, etc. Several of the guest's commented on how rude she was. Barb practically ruined what was supposed to be a joyful event for the bride and family, primarily given the fact that this venue was not cheap, as the young couple saved their hard earned money to pay to have their wedding there. Because of our experience, I checked some past reviews of, THE INN AT RAGGED EDGE, and there were many reviews posted with similar negative experiences with Barb! It is really unfortunate that I am having to write a negative review for such a beautiful place that without Barb's intervention, would have certainly received a raving review from me. We spent two nights at The Inn at Ragged Edge curtesy of a Living Social deal, and we were very pleased with our stay. The Inn is in a beautiful house which is easy to get to but removed enough from the hustle and bustle to allow for an extremely quiet, calming getaway. Lew and Fran are very sweet and show a nice balance between their hospitality towards guests and still maintaining a good distance to uphold everybody's privacy and desire for solitude. The rooms are quite lovely. We stayed in the Hearthside even though it was summer, and we loved the soft earthy tones and the King-sized bed with light drapes that could be pulled down around the top. Everything about the rooms is very comfortable, homey, and yet still classy. There is also a little common room with a refrigerator, coffee maker, and sink that guests are welcome to use. The grounds are quite nice, with patio tables and chairs in the back and a little stream down the hill that is visible from many of the rooms. The breakfasts--made mostly by Fran--are hearty but absolutely delicious. They asked right off the bat when I made reservations if we had any dietary restrictions and took them into account easily. Each element of the breakfasts was presented elegantly and made with love. It was just so nice to see someone truly putting care and soul into their work. I would not recommend this inn for families with young children--it just doesn't have that kind of vibe to it. We even felt out of place coming home quite late one night from a long day of exploring in Gettysburg, and we were not making any sort of ruckus. Definitely plan on making a stop here if you are looking for an evening of peace and relaxation. read more

We enjoyed our stay at the Inn at Ragged Edge. Ken and Barb are very sweet hosts. Ken was the person I spoke to when making the reservation and he was very helpful from the first call. I especially appreciated his flexibility when we had to adjust our stay (in advance of our arrival) and my understanding of the available packages they offer. We got the romance package and was pleasantly surprised when we arrived in our room and it was already set up for us! No hassle or fuss ... exactly what we were promised. The breakfast was delicious (way to go Barb) and was served hot and on time! I liked that we got to pick the time we ate (although everyone kind of has to eat at the same time which worked for us because we were the first to arrive so we picked :) ... Ken and Barb were right there to assist during breakfast so it would have been okay if they took a seat and enjoyed coffee with us. The house is quite lovely and is over 100 years old! Even so there were just enough modern touches to keep you connected (free wifi, tvs, etc.). Guests should keep in mind that sound carries in older homes and while our first night was quiet, our second night had more travelers who were not as quiet as they could have been considering. But that has nothing to do with Ken/Barb or the Inn .. just a traveler note for others to be considerate when staying. Ken and Barb are always available yet stay mostly out of sight to allow you to enjoy the comforts of the home at your leisure. Whatever we needed we texted and received! The Inn at Ragged Edge was a beautiful retreat from our busy home in Northern Virginia. We came upon the inn through living social. We were booked in the Hearthside room, a second floor room with a beautiful fireplace, king sized bed and beautiful earth tones. Our package included two nights, a bottle of wine, and chocolates. The wine is from the Adams County Winery, where we stopped in for a visit in addition to Gettysburg, which is only about 15 minutes away from the Inn. The owners of the Inn are very nice and hospitable. The breakfast was very tasty, however I would have preferred a more private breakfast with my husband. Sitting at a family dining table with strangers in pajama bottoms is not exactly romantic to me. (This is the only reason I am withholding a fifth star!) I felt like we were visiting relatives out of town who live in a big mansion who take care of us. It was that comfortable. We will be back and we will recommend this Inn to everyone we know! read more

I recently attended a wedding at this facility. The place is beautiful, but that did not keep you from overlooking all of the other issues. The building is not ADA compliant. We had someone attend the wedding who was in a wheelchair. Four of the men at the wedding had to physically pick him and the wheelchair up to get him into the house. There are no ramps! I don't know how this allowed. The owners have cameras and watch everyones every move and then they come running over to tell someone they are doing something they shouldn't be doing. The owners live in a connected part of the house. They came over to let the man in the wheelchair know that he was not permitted to put his walker against the wall. Really??? When they serve the included breakfast you can tell they want you to eat quickly so they can clean it up. Then during the ceremony one of the owners physically removed someone from the dance floor because he had a glass in his hand. What the heck?? You do not touch someone like that!! Then he stood on the dance floor with his arms crossed keeping an eye on everyone!! The reception was ended 45 minutes early because of this. It's a beautiful old house but not worth all of the "rules" for a wedding venue! DO NOT BOOK THIS FACILITY FOR AN EVENT IF YOU PLAN ON HAVING A GOOD TIME!! OR IF YOU ARE DISABLED! To the owners: Do not rent your house for weddings if this is how you are going to behave. You'll have to keep it to tea parties with no one who is disabled! Very disappointing. read more

What a beautiful Inn! Booked it for the boyfriend's birthday because his is a lover of all things Civil War and had been saying he wanted to get back there since he hadn't been there since he was a kid. Well I wanted to keep it as periodic as possible, so I searched Expedia for some potential locations to stay. So glad I settled on the Ragged Edge. Mr. and Mrs. Kipe are so very welcoming! Down to earth and hospitable, they were professional, considerate, and not overbearing by any means... We arrived a bit late (check in stops around 6pm) but, they say if you are arriving late, just give them a call and they will come unlock the door. When we arrived Mr. Kipe (Ken) was out watering the plants and Ms. Kipe (Barbara) welcomed us, gave us a tour, a run-down on the place, and gave us our keys, showed us to our rooms, and then left. Their philosophy is to not bother the guests too much; just let them enjoy themselves, and be there if we needed anything by calling their number. (They live in another wing of the Inn). We would see them at breakfast, chat for a bit, and then they would for the most part would make themselves scarce. The freedom of the place and ability to enjoy it at our leisure was phenomenal but I do wish they were around more just to say hi, talk to, and mostly, to say good bye and thank you! LOL I got the Rae's Creek room. Barbara referred to it as the European room because it was so small. But, it fit a queen sized bed, had a bathroom, and a shower and stall and sink... everything you would need. They also have a common ground area on the second floor with a fridge, microwave, snacks, and coffee and tea. On the main floor they had three different sitting rooms, one with a piano, one with some games and literature (books and stuff), and the other a few chairs... the wrap around porch had tables and chairs for you to enjoy on a pleasant evening or morning. And then around back, there was a multi-level porch with chairs and a table on them so you could relax and listen to the ripple of the creek that was behind the Inn. They also had a nature trail down to the creek and some chairs if you wanted to go down and sit by the creek. By the creek they also had the stuff for people to make bon fires if you wanted to. After a long day in Gettysburg, and a great meal, the BF and I found a place to grab a bottle of wine, got back took showers, then went and sat out back. The sound of the creek in the pitch black (well we had a candle too), was amazing. The bed was very comfortable but the room would start out the day a bit warm... sometime through the night while sleeping it would get cooler, but there was no way to control the temperature in the room. That would have been preferable but turned out not to be a big deal since it did cool down during the night. I was also disappointed that the bathtub jets didn't work... I had picked the room primarily because of the tub but when I sat down in it and tried to turn on the jets, nothing. Lol As mentioned in some other reviews the showers are also quite short so be aware tall ladies and gents... lol Someone also mentioned in some of the Expedia reviews I saw that there are no elevators... well, no... it's over a hundred years old... but yes, for those that are handicapped, you may want to look elsewhere as there are no wheel chair ramps or rooms on the first floor... but the stairs are not that bad... a few up, then a landing, then another set of stairs. Our room was more than efficient for our purpose visiting Gettysburg, PA. If we stay there again in the future, I might get another room, but that would be just so we could experience a different room!! Each morning we had a lovely spread of breakfast foods. There was fresh (absolutely beautiful) fruit (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries), yogurt, and granola... some bagels at the end of the table and some cinnamon raisin bread. Each morning, the main 'entrée/s' were different, and all cooked by Barbara herself!!!! And Wow, Barbara is an amazing cook!!!! The first morning, I admit I was a bit hesitant looking at the dish... it had what looked like a croissant on top of an egg bake and that's exactly what it was... it was a croissant stuffed with ham on top of baked egg, and it looked like a poppy seed dressing on top... WOWW!!!!! It was amazing!!!!!!! I had two or three!!! LOL and I took one back to the room at Barbara's urging (instigator! LOL) I only had two issues during my stay... one, I couldn't eat as much breakfast I wanted to because I got sooo FULL- the food was great! And two, we didn't get to actually say good bye to Ken and Barbara and thank them personally for their hospitality. Well I would have liked to have eaten breakfast on absolutely stunning porch but felt we would come off as antisocial -lol. But the weather was absolutely amazing and on the last day, we did actually take some coffee and go sit out there for a bit after eating breakfast. read more

Admittedly I may be super sensitive to things like this but I am not a fan of vaguely vailed political commentary . My husband planned a surprise stay for me for our anniversary over New Year's. We lived close enough at the time that he stopped by to meet the owners and see the room options. It is close enough to dining, shopping and the interstate that it is easy to get to whatever you may want, but it is in a wooded setting far enough away that you truly feel you are away from everything. The home is stunning in it's architecture and finishes. The view over the creek from the back windows is breathtaking. There are grand porches and patios outside as well. We were warmly greeted by the owners and their homemade cookies and cider, then shown our room. Everything was beautifully decorated and extremely clean. The bed was very comfortable (and I have back problems so that is always a concern for us). We stayed in the "Nest". We went to dinner at Bistro 71 in Chambersburg (highly recommend for a fun, funky night out, especially if they have a musician in that night). When we returned, we had a beautiful basket of candles, chocolates and wine. This room has a huge soaking tub in the private bathroom. The next morning we awoke to the most divine cinnamon rolls I have ever had, along with a host of other delicious breakfast foods. We ate with some other couples staying at the inn and had lovely conversation. We only stayed on New Year's Eve, so by the time we were checking out there was a wedding setting up for the day. Having seen it transition from a living and dining space to a full wedding area was impressive. Lovely inn, lovely atmosphere and lovely owners. You will not be disappointed. read more

This was our 1st bed and breakfast experience. I will say that both Mrs & Mr Kipe made it a memorable time spent there. Very quiet, extremely clean, and an outstanding homemade breakfast. A very personal, yet private setting. Their home is absolutely stunning with fine woodwork, handcrafted detail and exceptionally inviting. They offer a very welcoming enviroment, come and go as you please type setting. They both opened my girlfriend's and my eyes to second guess ever going to a "hotel" again. The place itself is amazing! The new owners, not so much.... I'm a picky eater. The previous owners Fran and Lew had no problem with this and made sure there was something I could enjoy in the morning. My wife and I re-booked with them for our 2015 vacation. But they ended up selling the business to Barb and Ken Kipe. When we got there on July 2nd Mrs. Kipe asked if either of us had any allergy or preference for breakfast and I told her- " I'm a picky eater- I don't like my food mixed together, I don't like fruit, I don't like vegetables" (It's a childhood trauma thing-my father was very abusive) She looked right at me and said "In my house we have a saying, you can eat what a serve, or you don't eat" I was taken back by this. Did I not pay several hundred dollars to stay here? Shouldn't I be treated like a paying guest and not a disobedient child? If I'd had any choice about booking our vacation elsewhere we would have left right then. But we had no option so we stayed, of course the next morning, and every morning she served food I couldn't eat (even though we were paying for bed and BREAKFAST) And felt the need to ridicule me in front of the other guests and my wife every morning. Even going so far as to say she could starve the picky-ness out of me. We'll never stay at the Ragged Edge again, and if you're a picky eater I'd not recommend you stay either. read more

We stayed at the Inn at Ragged Edge on our trip to Gettysburg. We couldn't resist the charm of the inn, and once we arrived, it was even more beautiful and spectacular in person! Ken and Barb are so gracious, welcoming, and accommodating. Ken was able to have our room ready for check-in at noon instead of 3pm (the standard check-in time), even with a wedding reception going on! We love the history and charm of the Inn. Barb and Ken do a wonderful job with the maintenance and upkeep for such an older, historical home. They are available at all times for any assistance. Barb's homemade breakfast was delicious! We stayed in the Rae's Creek room, and we were very happy with it! We will definitely be going back, hopefully at Christmas. Our stay was absolutely incredible! The grounds are breathtaking, the home is beautiful, and the food delicious. Not to mention the hosts, Ken and Barb. Their hospitality is wonderful, and they are so accommodating and warm. We had a family reunion at the inn, and it was the perfect place to be together. My wife and I recently stayed at the Inn at Ragged Edge in beautiful southern PA. The house is amazing, as is the staff. The owners, Lew and Fran, are absolutely delightful and live on property. Several wood-burning fireplaces remain burning 24 hours a day during the winter thanks to Lew. The rooms are spectacular! We stayed in Hearthside, a beautiful suite with a king sized bed and fireplace. The jetted tub was a delight for my wife. Breakfasts--we were there two days--were amazing and Lew offered seconds of anything that was served. The home sits upon it's namesake, the breath-taking Ragged Edge, a cliff overlooking a babbling brook running through a pristine forest setting. With over seven acres, the property is a delightful stroll. We can't wait to go back and look forward to seeing the Inn during spring or fall. With this year's celebration of 150 years since the Battle at Gettysburg, get your reservations in soon! They often run Living Social two-day deals that would cost less than most hotels in the area. The house (mansion, really) is beautifully preserved with gorgeous wood paneling and bannisters and lovely views of woods and a creek. Despite its size, it is spotlessly clean, and despite its age, the bathrooms are massive and modern. So it's the perfect combination of an immersion into a privileged past -- the place was once a railroad baron's summer retreat -- with very contemporary conveniences. There was a whirlpool bath in our room. The breakfast of baked eggs, yogurt and fruit was sumptuous, and the coffee is very good. The owners, Barb and Ken, said they serve their own locally roasted blend of Asian and South American beans. Barb is not only a talented innkeeper, but a talented musician as well. She sat down briefly at the Steinway grand and played a piece for us when we got back from dinner. We arrived with a problem: I had a piece of furniture that wouldn't fit in my car. Barb graciously found a spot for me to stash it until I could arrange transport, and when I told Ken I was sorry about the inconvenience, he said, "What inconvenience?" Very kind. read more

My jaw literally dropped when I first saw this home. It is beautiful and on some very pretty wooded lands. We were in the Azalea room, third floor, opposite corner from the kitchen. The bathroom was huge but the shower was very short for a 6' tall man. The kitchenette was fantastically convenient and the breakfast was phenomenal. We were there for two nights and didn't even explore everything that was open to the public, it's that big. I will definitely go back if I"m every in the area. read more

This was a GREAT recommendation from locals as alternative to a not-so-great Four Points, not even close to a Sheraton! I stayed two weeks in a row in June and although up and out to work before b'fast, Lew and Fran made sure i had a simple b'fast of yogurt, fresh berries, and granola not to mention really good coffee with MILK! The house is lovely,roomy and elegant, but homey, and quiet! 2nd floor rooms are great, spacious, with windows and A/C and oversized bathrooms and tubs - a must for me! A 2nd floor common room is delightful with kitchenette, microwave and fridge. beautiful grounds with flowers and seating areas, and fresh flowers in rooms! WHEN i come back this way, for work or play, this is where i will stay. Lew even offered to drive my colleague to MDT (Harrisburg airport) - an hour away - as there are no cabs here! His fare was so amenable! i did have to move one night because i made my 2nd week reservation on short notice, into the Honeymoon Suite, 1/2 way between 2nd and 3rd floors - not as nice a room as others w/o windows (skylights) but it was really quiet. i can't wait to come back.
