It is a charming restaurant serving food from the Civil War era with servers wearing period costumes. The chicken pot pie was served very hot and was very good with chicken chunks and a good flavor sauce. My husband and friends loved the Game Pie. I suggest reservations because the place is tiny. It has a long history and worth experiencing.

Cannot rate the food, rooms or service because we only went for a ghost tour. There were no plant based options to choose from so we wouldn't be able to eat here anyway. That tour, however, was great. Lots of history and creepy vibes throughout the building including the basement and attic. Our tour guide was great and we would definitely come back!

Small table was about the only set back... No big deal.

I just had one of the best dinning experiences of my adult life. We got to Gettysburg around 6 and made a 730 reservation that was honored in a timely manner. Everything was period accurate. The meal, the staff, the decor... We were treated to wonderful French onion soup, pumpkin fritters, spoon bread.... The entrees we got were perfect. I got a NY Strip with a baked potato and my wife got a House Game Pie. Our waitress Stella treated us to a pretty neat personal ghost story that happened to her in the kitchen. I just had a great night. Meal came to around $85 and we added a 25% tip. So good. I feel lucky.

    GREAT TABLE FOR DINNER

Lovely place! Very different layout than most, garden was cool. Food was good, not great - except for the pumpkim biscuit "things" can't remember what they called them _ looked like hush puppies. They were WONDERFUL!

Me and My Husband stayed here after staying at the Dobbin house. What a disappointment. when we had arrived in our room, it was quaint, smaller, but for the price I expected a lot more. Not only do you have to pay to only stay in your room, not even allowed to walk around in the house, but you also have to pay for tours on top of already paying almost $200 a night for a room in the off-season. I highly recommend just booking a tour and not staying here. The tour guides were amazing and Dave was filled with so many cool and historical facts. They require you to pick a time to eat breakfast, from which we did, and when we arrived downstairs for our reservation, there was no one to be seen other than a table of six. After for sitting for 10 minutes without anyone coming up to us, we grabbed complementary tea or coffee, and then another 10 or 20 minutes passed by before we were even spoken to by a server in which she said I'll be with you in a minute and did not return. So we had gotten up and we left and checked out. The food in the tavern was decent, it's mainly just lunch foods. It's not really a high class menu so don't expect it to be. It's very obvious that they focus on the paranormal aspect, rather than focusing on service and overall experiences. The walls are really thin, which I understand because it is quite an old home, but when you're trying to sleep and all you can hear is people in the kitchen making food and drunk guest slamming doors as well as there's cameras everywhere and you feel like you're part of some weird experiment, it's not inviting and it's not a great experience. I don't recommend staying here. I recommend staying somewhere else and just coming here for the historical aspect and maybe a paranormal tour but other than that, I don't recommend it.

He said that "You are transported back in time the moment you step into the place." He was not wrong. Though it was late evening, there were still tons of people waiting to get in. We were starving but figured the wait must mean the food was worth it and...it was! We chose first available and were seated at the bar in the corner. It was nice because we didn't wait long to be served and we had I nice view of the entire restaurant. A very rustic place that looked as I would imagine it did in 1863. My friend ordered a Caesar salad, fillet, and a baked potato. The salad came with a freshly baked yeast dinner roll. Fillet was cooked to perfection. I ordered the King's Soup which was French onion soup except with large chunks of tender beef in it. My entree was the Spring House Salad which was mixed greens, apples, walnuts, chipped smoked turkey, with herb dressing and it was divine. The sleeper of the meal was the datenut bread with cream cheese that came with my salad. A dark brown molasses bread with dried fruit and nuts. It was so chocked full of nuts and fruit while the dough was the most moist bread I've ever had. I couldn't eat both pieces after the meal so took it in a to go container. I ate it on the drive home and it was still moist and delicious.

I can't tell you how many times that medium is what I usually get when requesting medium-rare at restaurants. There's a big difference between the two in terms of internal temperature, center color, and texture. This place knows how to properly cook a medium-rare burger, and for me, that's a sign of quality and sets it apart. The sidewinder fries are fab as are the homemade potato chips and either comes with burgers. The dressing on the coleslaw needs some seasoning, but the slaw itself is fresh and crunchy. The Maryland crab soup is pretty slammin', too. I favor the back dining room, not the bar (in front). These 2 areas have different vibes. The back room feels like the way a burger joint should be. The bar is, well, more bar-ish. One of the servers, Brody, provides exceptional service--a shout out to him. This establishment's name is playful and clearly informs the customer as to what their specialty is: hamburgers. I bought one of their T-shirts, perhaps that says it all.

My uncle ordered a cup of chili to start. It was served hot which is always a bonus. Not too spicy even though it had a spice label next to it on the menu. The presentation was nice as it's served with 4 tortilla chips. My Aunt opted for the babyback ribs served with fries. My uncle's main dish was the soft shell crab tacos while I went with the brisket mac and cheese and side Caesar salad. These items, with exception of the salad, were on a separate menu, likely seasonal. The servings are large (even the side salad)! I barely put a dent in my Mac and cheese. I was a little disappointed that the brisket that was "folded" within my MAC and cheese was playing Hide-and-seek. I would prefer more protein in that dish based on the quantity of pasta. The salad was well-dressed. At most restaurants I have to add caesar dressing to the salads. I washed it down with a sweet tea while my Uncle tried the White Birch beer. My aunt thought the baby back ribs were dry, and had a bit too much sauce on it. It would have been nice to have less sauce on the ribs, with additional sauce on the side. My uncle did not think the soft shell crab tacos were all that (although novel), which is probably why he ordered. It had more batter on it, and one can barely taste the crab. He said he would not order it again. As residents they will not go back to this restaurant anytime soon, and can't really recommend it unless someone just wants to try give it a try. I'll have to try the root beer on my next visit. Our waiter was very attentive and the volume in the restaurant was reasonable enough to have table conversations.
