The way they were emoting each syllable to the songs and adding their own spice when it was necessary was just a full-on last. Also the fact that they do a lot of crowd interaction dancing around them dancing with them and even taking advantage of the bar itself as props was just super fantastic. The one bit that I really enjoyed was the fact that every queen had their own venmo account. So if you were not able to tip in cash you could tip them for their stupendous performances. And overall the bartending staff was definitely super quick and friendly throughout the night.

First, the ridiculous cover charge is not worth your time there. The childlike staff are so inexperienced that they don't know more about mixing or knowledge of mix drinks, simply pathetic! Another concern is use of the public facilities, staff directing you to a stall? Really? And being rude about it. And finally the place is falling apart. You can't wash your hands in the restroom, some of the stair rails are lose and the place has definitely lost its appeal and charm. Overall at least for me it was a nightmare! Never patronizing this establishment again! FYI, if you are over the age of 30 you are not very welcomed there! Just saying!

I tried several of the organic juice blend cocktails and they were able to add my spirit of choice. I tried the Rosie Cheek with vodka, watermelon, rose water and raspberry, Valley Girl with tequila, pineapple, banana and coconut, and the Golden Ticket with mezcal, kombucha, ginger and lavender. They had a drag show on the patio after the run. It was a very fun and engaging experience.

The beer is cold, the Lone Star flows like Texas water, and the vibe is pure old school Austin. And yes, the legendary bathroom situation deserves its own paragraph. The men's room features a giant ice filled trough for a urinal, which feels like something out of a 1970s roadside saloon documentary. Somehow it is both ridiculous and perfectly on brand. It actually becomes a conversation starter because you walk out laughing and immediately tell your friends they have to see it and go pee. The crowd was friendly, the bartenders were quick with the beers, and nobody was taking themselves too seriously. I ended up staying longer than planned, drinking Lone Stars and talking to random people like we had known each other for years. If you want craft cocktails served with a rosemary sprig this is not your place. If you want a hilarious, slightly chaotic, authentically divey night in Austin with cheap beer and great stories, Dirty Bill's absolutely delivers. Five stars and I would go back in a heartbeat.

When we finally got up to him to order, he still took his time to do everything but serve us then when he finally spoke he started being condescending and made fun of me for "not knowing what I wanted" despite me literally telling him exactly what I wanted. Fast forward a couple hours, we go back to order another drink. The other bartender is busy handling another customer, so we go back to Trevor, who is not helping anyone and his side of the bar is empty. We walk up, he looks at us both, turns away with his phone in hand, asks the other bartender something, and then proceeds to ignore us. I could understand being busy with something that I'm unaware of as a customer, I've worked customer service. What I don't get and refuse to tolerate is blatantly ignoring someone who tipped you nicely despite you being a d*ck the first time around. It costs nothing to say "sorry just one sec while I figure this out" or something. Normal customer service. As we're standing waiting, a couple other people come up beside me and he begins taking their orders immediately. I pointed out that we had been waiting longer than them, and he just responds with "ok I'm just going down the line, I'll get you next." And when I explained what happened he interrupted me and said "ok well now you're just wasting time on something that's not important." I tried finishing my point about him ignoring us and he ignored us again and continued talking with the person next to me. I think this man is allergic to customer service and accountability. It could've been so easy to say "I'm sorry, I didn't see you" or whatever. I wish 100 years of stepping on a lego daily on him. The other bartender, we think his name was Nick, did a great job and was very kind. He delivered basic customer service and it was unfortunate that they split tips as I wished I could only leave him something nice. Still tipped of course. Trevor's behavior definitely lessened the enjoyment of Barbs. I don't recommend this place any night that he's working.

I came during SXSW, when clubs usually book bands that are different from what they usually book. So my Japanese showcase would not reflect what you would usually hear at Elysium. But the performance space is attractive. The club is divided into two rooms with just a divider and no wall between the rooms. So you can hear the music from anywhere. If you want to be right next to the speakers at the edge of the stage, you have to be in the main room - not the room with the bar. As I get older, I sit down more. But for most of my life, I was a stage-edge-next-to-the-speaker kind of guy. Only the only thing that would remove me from my favorite place was mosh pit action (Or a sucky band). As I get older, I also look for some kind of wall support to brace myself with one hand while I dance with the rest of me. The Mohawk is ideal for wall support upfront dancing. The Elysium not so much because one wall is mirrored. But you can get in position to do some major dancing. When I was there last, I did just that. * * * Seating options are superb. Both in the stage room and the bar room there are comfy leather sofas that hold three people and a number of other soft seating locations. Unlike many other Austin clubs, it is easy to find a space to sit down and still get the music full blast. At the Mohawk, in contrast, for an indoor concert, if you go to sit down you leave the room with the music, and you only get vague overtones coming through the wall. * * * The bar is pretty good. Their options are limited but their options are well chosen. I was introduced to a George Dickel rye by the bartender that was absolutely first rate. George Dickel is definitely going into my home collection. Outstanding beverages and fine seating allow you to have a fine time at the Elysium Even on a night when the bands are terrible. * * * Your fine time changes if you have to go to the bathroom. * * * If you are a guy, peeing is merely tacky. You go into a semi-gross room where there is a multi-user tank. All the guys pee into the tank. * * * Pooping is another story. The club does not want shenanigans going on in any of the toilet stalls. So they remove the door to the toilet stall. The men's room toilet is fully visible from the front door to the men's room. You are literally pooping in front of the entire world. This is barely one step up from India. In India, many people poop in the streets. Here, you are essentially pooping in the streets Except when you are done you can flush the bad stuff away. I personally am very shy . I definitely do not want to do my business in public. * * * There are people in Austin who love to sh** in public. Put four of them together and you have a band. Bands like that perform all over town, Including at the Elysium.

The bar itself has a discoey atmsophere with dancing lights, typical repetive techno and art nuevo dark look. Very trendish in an almost 'twink' bar way, meaning it feels like a boy bar in apperance. It has been said before it isn't exactly a 'bear' crowd that goes, though they are nominally friendly there they are also clickish. The bear events typically include guys standing around chatting and drinking in cliques with techno music blaring too loud to have a decent conversation. Rarely do I find anyone beyond the skinny anexroeix type. I do go to this bar to meet bears.. It is amazingly clean and If you can get over the protestations of innocence and the uptight/stuck up folk/staff, you might enjoy the fact that it is free to get in and there is NEVER a cover and you are not REQUIRED to buy a drink to be there, which I'm glad. The club is two storied. If you are the trick taking type, this is NOT the bar you want to go to. Most of the clientel are very much partnered and rarely engage in meaningful conversation with those who are single. I also do not enjoy alchahol and do not stay long in there. I get bored if nothing intrest me and typically move on. Sadly I've seen more bears OUTSIDE of the Iron Bear then IN it. I found it nearly impossible to calssify this bar as a 'bear' bar based on what I've seeen and exeprienced here. More straights come here then anyone else and enjoy talking more then their gay counterparts do. Sundays offer free food but there are other places that offfer it as well. If there is a bear scene in austin, and I'm doubting that, it is NOT to be found at the iron bear. HOwever they do have interesting events that are related mostly to getting people in to buy drink specials and the dj's do sell poorly made cd club mixes. read more

I was really liked this chill hang out until yesterday afternoon. It's got a great vibe and usually nice friendly mixed crowd. FORGET ABOUT A SAFE PLACE HERE!!!! NEVER GOING BACK!!! There was a super shady guy lurking around two very nice woman that were hanging out with me at the bar. He kept making rude comments to one of the women, telling us about his fake id, trying to run some scams and all kinds of shady dialog. We asked him to leave us a lone politely several times. He refused and seem to also be getting drunker and more grossly aggressive and obnoxious. One of the women decided they had enough and spoke to the bouncer/door person for help. At that time the nuisance saw this and he moved to another group. Then the bouncer/door person told the creepy dude that the woman had said something to him and that provoked the creep dude to get in the face of the woman that had requested assistance from the bouncer. REALLLLLLY?!?!?! This is how you runs safe business?!?!?! And the front door just sat and watch this bad interaction. The door person did not diffuse the situation or help at all, but he escalated the situation to the point of nothing good was going to happen. GREAT JOB POOR BOUNCER DOOR DUDE for protecting no one and allowing three great customers to NEVER want to return to the Iron Bear and letting some foul person remain. REALLY NOT A SMART MOVE OR GOOD FOR PEOPLES SAFETY. It was a shame to see how this easy to resolve situation has generated a negative experience at the Iron Bear. People should be allowed to safely enjoy themselves without harassment or bad behavior from other people. read more

Was ignored for over 30 mins, the pepper bearded bartender ignored me as I was waiting on the service bar line, he addressed everyone as they walked up, but me on the line. I couldn't help but notice everyone be prioritized before me just so happened to be Caucasian men, when I had the chance to finally order, this grown ass man sucked his teeth and said he "didn't realize I was standing there". I put two and two together, there's a lot of reviews describing this specific bartender and iron bear has yet to address or nip the issue of bias, racism and prejudice out of that what's suppose to be a INCLUSIVE environment. Wings were good, but that bartender is tiring to deal with, especially as loyal customers and clearly as targeted gays of color. read more

An incredible drunk man was belligerent towards me and incredibly aggressive for no reason. He felt very entitled because he was friends with the staff. I wasn't doing anything and he was causing a scene and trying to get me kicked out. The staff had the audacity to ask me to move away because they couldn't reason with this drunk alcoholic lunatic. The fact that the staff allows their friends to drunkly harass and threaten paying g patrons is beyond belief. I am fairly certain this individual did not pay. I used to love the Iron Bear, but after how the staff treated me, I loathe this bar. The rude bartenders name was either Al or Greg. read more

Great bar, decent bar food. The bartenders are great. I like to come for food before the bar gets packed, but they actually serve food until 11. It's a cool little spot, but does get kinda loud (as all good bars do). There's a little smokers section out on the patio where you can catch a little breeze and people watch. read more

I've been coming to your bar for about six years and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, which is why this interaction was so upsetting. When I approached the bar to order, the bartender, Julia, immediately said, "Don't piss me off." I was caught off guard because I hadn't said or done anything at that point. I was ordering drinks for myself and my partner, so I had two tabs. Before receiving my drink, I let her know that I wanted to cash out both tabs. After handing me my drink, she walked away without closing them. I politely reminded her that I needed to cash out both tabs, and she responded by saying, "You're pissing me off now." When I explained that I had already mentioned wanting to close both tabs, she told me, "I'm completely sober, so I know what you said. You're drunk." At that point, I had only had one beer. Whether she believed I had misunderstood something or not, I don't think it was appropriate to speak to a guest that way. I responded by saying, "It's okay to be wrong," which I understand may not have helped de-escalate the situation, but I was frustrated by how I was being spoken to. The interaction continued outside, where she raised her voice at me in front of other guests. I told her that it wasn't appropriate to yell at me publicly and that beginning the interaction by saying "don't piss me off" was also unacceptable. The conversation continued to escalate, and after I had already paid my tabs (approximately $18 total), my beer was taken and thrown away. I've worked in the service industry as well, so I understand that difficult interactions happen and that everyone has stressful days. However, I also know how important it is to remain professional when interacting with customers. I don't expect perfection, but I do expect to be treated with basic respect. I'm not writing this to get anyone in trouble. I simply wanted to make management aware of an experience that left me feeling embarrassed, uncomfortable, and disappointed at a place I've supported for many years. I hope this can be addressed so that other guests don't have a similar experience. Thank you for taking the time to read this I also found it concerning that you repeatedly emphasized that you were sober. At no point did I question your sobriety or suggest otherwise. My only request was to cash out both of my tabs. Being told, "I'm completely sober, so I know what you said," felt unnecessary and had nothing to do with the situation. There is literally nothing going on, not a single ticket in the well. Enter the antagonist of our story: a surly, brown-haired, early-30s male bartender whose entire vibe can only be described as "aggressively burdened by my existence." I sat down and made the apparently offensive mistake of asking for a tequila recommendation or a menu. Instead of, you know, doing his job, he vaguely flapped a hand toward a distant corner of the bar and muttered something to the effect of, "Figure it out yourself." Rude? Absolutely. But the true comedic genius of this moment was that the "selection" he pointed to was completely barricaded behind a Great Wall of stacked pint glasses. Unless he expected me to develop X-ray vision on the spot, I wasn't choosing anything. When he finally graced my side of the bar with his presence again, he asked if I'd made a decision. I politely informed him that his precious agave collection was hidden behind glassware. Did he apologize? Did he offer a menu? No. He just served up a passive-aggressive shrug packed with so much contempt it deserves its own Austin zip code. As someone with a background in neurobiology, I was genuinely fascinated by the complete lack of synaptic activity required to be this terrible at hospitality when you have literally zero other customers to attend to. Having also worked in the food & beverage service industry myself, I've seen my share of bad nights, but I have never witnessed such dastardly, flippant behavior from a bartender. I did the only logical thing: I told him it would be better if I just found another place to go, got up, and walked right out the door. To the Management: Your Monday night guy needs a serious talking-to, a basic hospitality seminar, and maybe a printed menu, since memorizing the tequila selection is clearly above his pay grade.

Chips were homemade but tasted stale. The salsa was respectable. My drink was no great shakes. But that barbacoa burrito told me that there is some serious cooking going on in that kitchen. It felt like a club that was trying to be a club..?? It was small. And the set up was absolutely ridiculous being that the entire middle is for tables and reservations only. Leaving very little space for the GA crowd on the sides and in the back. Sound was okay. But I didn't love the crowd either. I probably wouldn't go back for the price those tickets cost. Glad we got to experience it though. The performance was great. Just wish it was longer as well.
