Call me a hater, but I found this place to be just fine. I like the layout and various spots to either dance or hang; however, there are far too many people in the place to begin with to really enjoy the spaces. I understand the push to have as many people come in as possible (more people, more money - I know) and I'm not saying I need a 5 foot area around me in the dance floor; however, when you can't even barely move left and right while dancing, it's just eh for me. I've been to Rain at night, but never during the day for an event. Had a blast at the Cazadores event! The outdoor patio is perfect for a cocktail reception. Fans, TVs and small bar. Bartenders were quick and on point with our Cazadores drinks. Perfect size to have a large merch table, photo backdrop, tacos cooking and high top tables. This is a cute spot with a nice dance floor and a cool outside area. I like the set up, good amount of space, cute overall. However, the amount of young kids and straight women is to be noted. I don't go to gay bars to have groups of 15 girls dancing around me obnoxiously. Plus, the drinks were WEAK. Not like, oh not so strong. No, WEAK WEAK WEAK. My gin and tonic was basically lime flavored water. Could never work in Miami. The music was okay, it did have a lot of generic radio music which is very meh. Really disheartened about our experience, just at the DOOR of Rain. We had three people in our party, myself, my friend, and her partner. My friend is disabled and walks with a cane. We saw there was a line to get in, which we completely understood, but the line was not disability friendly (as most bars aren't). We decided to ask the bouncer if there was a handicap entrance/line, or any kind of accommodations for people who aren't able bodied. We walked up to the side of the entrance with no line and just a bouncer, and we were immediately met with attitude, which I partially understood, because I'm sure he has to deal with a lot of people and a lot of attitude himself. From his perspective, it looked like we were trying to just bypass the line and walk right in. We told him we weren't trying to do that, and just wanted to know if there was a different line/area/entrance that was accessibility friendly, since the line on the sidewalk is not. He instructed us to walk around the building into the alley and that was the spot we needed to be. So we walked around the building, down the side of the building, into the alleyway. We get to the double doors that are open and blocked by one person, and there is a group of people also at the door. So we walk up to the bouncer in the back, and tell him what we are looking for, and that we have been sent by the bouncer in the front. This bouncer was immediately hostile towards us. He kept yelling at everyone, telling my friend that he had no idea what she was talking about and she needed to back away. We tried to explain again but it was pointless so we started to walk away. My friend's partner tried to explain our confusion and simply that we had been instructed to come here, to which he replied "she needs to get over herself" loud enough for everyone and my friend to hear. Mind you, she was already walking away, so this was entirely uncalled for. My friend was rightfully furious at this point, and told him off, and he told her off right back. I want to understand his perspective, I'm sure he is dealing with a lot of shit all night. But we were clearly 1. Not intoxicated or making any kind of scene 2. Asking questions, not making demands 3. Following instructions from other staff members. And despite all this, we were met with vitriol and cruel words. My friend is disabled, it's not a matter of "getting over it" it's a matter of spaces learning how to be more inclusive so disabled people see they matter and there is space for them. We walked back around to the front, I sat with my friend who had done more walking then she could handle at this point and held her as she was in distress from the treatment. Her partner went to talk to the bouncer at the front again, to let him know what happened in the back and that there is NOT an accessibility line/area/entrance in the back. He didn't care and tried to brush it off like we were being unreasonable, and out of control. It was such a terrible experience, and shocking coming from a club that is supposed to be inclusive AND it was Pride weekend. Truly I just hope someone sees this, and there is some kind of change to how disabled patrons are treated (sensitivity training maybe?) and that they create spaces that make the club and waiting more accessible. And even if they can't provide that right now for whatever reason (even though it illegal, and the ADA has requirements for businesses for this very reason) train your staff to handle it better, than telling a disabled person to get over it when they are trying to access, accessible spaces. So disappointing. read more

2019 Yelp 120 Challenge - # 81 Rain on 4th is my favorite club in Austin and I can't wait to return for another fun night out. It has a beautiful light up dance floor and an amazing DJ. They also have a great back patio area were you can hang out when the weather is nice. Unfortunately, I visited in August during Pride weekend and I was not into hanging out outside unless I had to. Had a great time for my first bar experience in downtown Austin. The staff here were welcoming and made conversation as if we were regulars like many of the folks in there. It is a relaxed atmosphere, a great place to dance or chill. Had a few drinks to pre-game and get the buzz going. Our bartender was really cool and poured some great drinks. The worst bar/club in austin.. it used to be fun 2 years ago now it's dead. They also don't do anything the advertise on social media. The staff is so extremely rude especially the scrawny "security guard" at the front. Let's be real though who is he keeping safe. I was kicked out of the bathroom for waiting for a friend. The staff does not like straight/plus size people and they will use hateful language towards you. I think it's probably time for some new management. As far as gay bars go, this one is my favorite in Austin. This was my second visit here and it was very different than my first visit a couple years back. My first visit, I was lucky to experience this spot on Sunday Funday. And let me tell you, on a Sunday, this place is alive! The bar up front, the middle bar, and the patio bar were all busy. There's a dance floor, which is crowded and patio where you will definitely make a new friend. In fact, I'm still in contact with a couple of guys I met that first visit. My latest visit was on a school night and it was the polar opposite from my first experience. Only a few people spread out throughout the bar, quiet and a great place to have an intimate experience with friends. I ordered a paloma and there was something super off about it. The bartender working that night was super nice and made me a margarita instead, which was delicious. I'm really glad I was able to see two sides of one my favorite spots and can't wait to see more on my next visit. read more

Getting there: We walked here from the Aloft Hotel. Not a far walk, but if driving there is street parking near the entrance. Experience: We had a blast here. The dance floor lights up, the music is on point and the people are so much fun. The night we went happened to be a dance contest on stage so our group went wild over that. We were taken here by an Austin local and we were SO happy they introduced us. This is the place to be! We went on a Monday night and it was POPPING with all sorts of characters and groups, but the general vibe was just get some drinks, sing some songs, and have a LOT of fun. I made a couple of new friends just by dancing with them and complimenting their fits.Bartenders are definitely working really hard to get everyone their drinks, and the wait time to get served is not that long at all. Shots they pour are also on the heavier end, so you're definitely getting your moneys worth. They can play literally any song since they'll just pull up the instrumental from Youtube and project it onto the wall. There is a queue to put your song in, so you might be waiting for a while. I'd recommend putting your name down for a song before you get your drinks. If you're looking to sing multiple songs that night, also keep this queue in mind. Most singers were solo, but my partner and I chose a duo song. One mic is wireless, but the other is wired. We heard all kinds of songs that night, the most memorable being "Dicked Down in Dallas". Fun story. I'm a 47 year old woman. Last night me and a date decided to have a walk to the 4th Street district after a large meal and two drinks (over a 2 hour time frame) at Eddie V's. I was wearing wedges and my feet were very sore. My date helped me to step down off of the curb because my feet and my back were sore. I'm also only 5 feet tall and have teeny legs. The door people were telling another couple that they were soon having karaoke and I turned to my date to say that would be fun. As soon as the couple went inside, a very young blonde girl with short hair put her hand out and said "I watched you stumble across the street. You can not come in here." I was taken back for a moment because I was completely sober from my large meal and two small drinks and then a long walk. And my date has confirmed that I was in no way "stumbling." Lol. But having worked the bar scene before college 20 plus years back I knew that arguing was not going to help! I stood there perplexed and said "okay." I didn't try to explain that I had just had a long walk in wedges and my date helping me and my short legs step down to cross the road was not what it appeared to her. I was just polite and walked past. She was super young. I held no grudge. We approached the door to Oil Can Harry's and as we stopped, she began to stand out on the sidewalk and give a whistle signal to their door person! That was too far. Even my date mentioned that she must have some sort of personal problem with me or my appearance. I just had a house fire. And lost most of my clothes. So I had a funny but stylish t-shirt. Free People jeans and wedges. Not fancy but I did my best. Young lady, don't mistake my kindness for weakness. I'm approaching 50. I had a large meal and a long walk. Then you watched what a person my age looks like being assisted to step down by a gentleman because at this age.... Heals hurt. I was nice because you looked like my daughter. And you seemed so sure of my intoxication depute my sober demeanor. Lack of arguing. And kindness while you treated me like a drunk. I was sober as a judge. I can say that.... We were there for maybe 30 minutes when we were putting flavor in our drink, someone came up to us to kick us out for "drugging" our own drinks. And instead of being polite about it someone who worked there told my friend to "go die" when she said it was just flavoring. And then told us to go back where we're from. So to say we're not coming back is an understatement. We wouldn't have minded had they been nice about it but to be rude from the start is crazy. They seemed like they just wanted a reason to be upset at somebody. Hopefully they can get some better staff if they actually want people to come in on a dead Sunday night cause they lost a whole party of us for being a**holes.
