Was visiting Tallahassee for work and was lucky to be staying in a location that had a lot of restaurant options. We stopped into The Iron Daisy the first night and ordered at the counter. I went with the Fried Mahi Tacos which comes with 2 tacos, and rice and beans for $13.50 and the Carnitas Street Taco for $3.25. My friend ordered the Chips and Queso which came out first. The Chips were freshly fried and were thin and salty. The Queso dip was good and what was to be expected. Our food some out as it was ready. First, my Carnitas Street Taco. I will say it looked like it might be dry but it was actually very flavorful and the Green Chili sauce was a great add too. The Fried Mahi Tacos were also pretty good. I liked that they came with a Corn Salsa and Remoulade Sauce. This actually made them much better then expected with great flavor. I will say the rice and beans were OK at best. Kinda what you expect at Mexican restaurant, basically being an after thought. All and all The Iron Daisy was pretty good for a quick lunch or dinner. I order take out from The Iron Daisy at least once a month. I will also continue to order takeout or eat in as the food is consistently delicious and the vegan options are always good. I enjoy the black bean taco and the fried yucca - the vegan sauce with it is bomb. read more

I was very pleasantly surprised and overall I would recommend. This place looked very cute so we decided to stop in (although I must say the floors could use replacing or a good scrubbing). Nice menu with reasonable prices. Tacos and enchiladas were really good and came out fairly quick. However the star of the show is the corn queso dip - wow this was good. Also really liked The hibiscus iced tea. Service was very friendly, the two staff member who took our order and brought food were great. Would definitely come back. read more

I walked over today from a comic book convention at the civic center and had two fried chicken and cotija cheese tacos -- one buffalo and one with sour cream and green chili sauce. Great flavor and a nice vibe indoors with Talking Heads, The Strokes and other great music playing. The El Yucateco green habanero hot sauce from bottles on the table is no color I've ever seen in nature but added a welcome bite to the food. I had chips with queso and guacamole because I was still hungry after two tacos but wasn't sold. This is a great little place not far from Gaines Street Pies that has covered outdoor tables and more tables out in the sun next to a garden. read more

Visiting Tallahassee for the first time and this place popped up. The algorithm knows my taco/Mexican food obsession. We ordered some Original Fried Famous Chicken tacos, cheese quesadilla, Macha chicken taco, and BBQ Carnitas taco. The food was ok, but nothing to get excited about. The salsa was tasty, but no with no heat. I would not order the Macha chicken again. I don't know what it actually tastes like, but it wasn't good. I've been here twice and once was a 5, no question. The next visit was a 3, even though I ordered the same item it was hardly recognizable. They have a great lunch special: $10 for two tacos, chips and salsa, and a drink. Both trips I got Buffalo fried chicken tacos. These were unbelievably good the first visit. The pickled onions were tangy and perfect. Unfortunately, my second trip had either more or spicier buffalo sauce and pickled onions that needed more pickling. Instead, I got really spicy tacos with what amounted to raw onions. Even the slaw was creamier the first time around, which helped balance the flavors of the tacos. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Little to no parking. I would definitely recommend and repeat, but they could easily be 5 stars with more consistency. I was in Tallahassee for a meeting, and needed a good dinner option near my hotel. I found The iron Daisy on Yelp! and tried it out (March 3). You order outside (almost like a covered porch) through the window. There is seating inside which is open to the porch. They bring the meal to you. I ordered the chips, guacamole and the buffalo chicken tacos. The chips and guac came out first. The chips were so hot (fresh) that they were too hot to touch at first. Very crisp and thin chips. These were probably the best chips I have had or at least among the top two. Tasty, light, hot and thin - yum! The guac was delicious though the portion was a little small. The buffalo chicken tacos were quite good with crispy chicken, a mildly spicy sauce, cheese and onions. I did request some hot sauce which they brought out in a little cup. That kicked it up a little bit. The staff was friendly and the service was fast. I would like to try more of their menu items. Really enjoyed the visit to The Iron Daisy. Thanks! read more

I was really looking forward to dining here during our trip, especially because of the vegan options; however, the reviews didn't match my experience. I had been dreaming of enjoying a Beyond Meat chimichanga (hard to find vegan chimichangas in restaurants). Unfortunately, they were out of Beyond Meat. I ordered guac + chips and two jackfruit tacos; carnitas street + macha. The guacamole portion was small; flavor mediocre. The chips were fresh made; some were good, some were oily. The macha jackfruit taco was interesting. The salsa, which contains peanuts, was on the bottom and not distributed well which caused a few bites to have an odd texture. I ended up picking off most of the vegan cheese since it wasn't melted. The jackfruit carnitas taco was overall good. Both tacos arrived between warm and room temperature. The hibiscus tea was fresh made but syrupy tasting. Thankfully, the staff were friendly + the outdoor dining space was nice. read more

I was really excited about trying this place since I'm a huge fan of Mexican food. First and foremost it wasn't as clean as I hoped it would be. The floors needed to be mopped since they were a bit wet and muddy from the rain. The inside was cute and the decor was unique but as someone who's really particular about cleanliness the floors automatically turned me off, similar to that icky feeling I get when I step on sticky floors in the movie theater; strike one. The service was really fast and after tasting the food I figured out why. I have a feeling that they reheat some of their food instead of making it from scratch. I ordered the enchiladas and my bf ordered the green chili chicken taco and the roja beef taco. He said they were both good but not better than other establishments we've visited. They are also a bit pricey for the portions. I could've spent the same amount at El Jaliscos and gotten significantly more food and margaritas. Spent $30 for a small enchilada platter and two small tacos. The bean enchilada was really tasty and I gave it a 9/10. The beef enchilada was pretty good as well and the meat was tender so again a 9/10. The chicken enchilada however was dry and tough as if it has been reheated. In my picture you can see it on the far left and you can tell by how the cheese wasn't fully melted that it may have just been reheated really quickly and added to the plate. So I gave it a 4/10; strike two. The rice had to be old because most of it was hard; not crunchy as if it was undercooked, but like it had been reheated for too long in the microwave; strike three! What Mexican restaurant ruins rice??? The refried beans were ok but I've had better. The best thing about this meal was the queso sauces on the enchiladas. This was really disappointing since the pictures looked really good and they offer lots of veggie/vegan options. I'll stick to my tried and true restaurants and stay out of college town. We literally left and went straight to Chile & Chilis and ordered take out. read more

What a cool taco spot! The food was delicious. My husband and I had two buffalo chicken tacos, which were insanely good. The tacos included a nice slaw and pickled onions, plus the crispiest buffalo chicken. The tacos had a nice amount of heat and the best flavor. My daughter had a kids cheese quesadilla and wow was it cheesy. She kept saying "cheese pull" because the cheese was thick and perfectly "melty". The pricing is just right too! I highly recommend this local spot. Also to note, I heard that this restaurant gets quite crowded around lunch time. However, we got there around 11:30 and we were the first ones there (on a Thursday). Service was super fast and staff was great! read more

Iron Daisy may have replaced the Bark as my favorite restaurant in town. It's Tex-Mex with a Floridian twist! Being a person who doesn't eat meat, it can sometimes be annoying to find the right place to eat but with the LEGION of options at the Daisy, I'm never without a great meal. My favorite thing has to be the Vegan Chimichanga (I get it made Vegetarian, which means that I keep the Beyond Beef but add Queso & Sour Cream). It's EXTREMELY FILLING fried goodness that comes with a side of rice and beans. I usually get it with a side of chips & guac, but the queso and salsa are great as well. Other favorites of mine are the Jackfruit Street Tacos & the Vegan Chorizo Taco. The staff is always sweet and usually recommends things when I can't think of anything. I suggest anyone who likes Tex-Mex to give it a try! read more

I ordered a quesadilla platter, and they are very generous with their portions. I got the shredded beef, it was flavored perfectly. Just enough cheese to meat ratio. The guacamole was very fresh. I also ordered a margarita, and the bartender knows exactly how to make them! Not too weak and not too strong. Just right. The staff is very nice and we were treated so well. The new concept by the folks over at Gaines Street Pies that puts a Floridian twist on your favorite tacos and Mexican cuisine! With our first visit to the new restaurant, we tried out the carnitas platter and carnitas burrito bowl, with added "make it wet" queso. The menu is pretty small, but it's not a big place either. The carnitas were on point and the citrus slaw added the nice Floridian flavor to the dish. Shells came on the side, so you could build your own tacos or just munch on the platter as is. I definitely liked the dish, but the citrus slaw wasn't very strong and I expected more unique Floridian twists based on all the hype. Still, I have quite a few more dishes to try and it's super convenient as a stop before hitting Grasslands or any of the other bars in the area! read more

I was extreme excited for The Iron Daisy. I expected for the menu to be a little bit more extensive but I digress. The Queso was delicious, some of the best Queso I've had. The tacos, were ok. I'm a sucker for Authentic Tacos, and the first thing that shows authenticity is the corn tortilla. I was not a fan of the tortilla, it reminded me of Chipotle's corn tortillas a little bit. Had the pleasure of visiting The Iron Daisy with a few of my besties today and we had a magnificent lunch to celebrate the launch into Memorial Day weekend. The restaurant is colorful and vibrant with cool art and a super sweet collection of wrestling masks on display. That pretty much set our mood meter to extreme positivity. But, it was odd that the music selection had absolutely no context for the scene. Seriously, how hard is it to set the pandora station to Los Lobos radio. That aside, the food and drink experience was grand. Two of the crew ordered the Lime Horchata milkshake. Yes, I got a taste and it was amazing. I hear that the restaurant will add liquor to their shakes, as well. So, must visit sometime in the evening and report back on that. We had chips and salsa because that's how you do it. The chips were super fresh and crunchy and the salsa was homemade and so good! Our food came out in a timely fashion. In fact, it was straight up snappy. The crew had an array of selections. The Birria Chimichanga with queso, vegan pork carnitas, non-vegan pork carnitas, beans, and rice. We all loved the grub. It was hot, tasty and appealing from every angle. The food isn't served on anything overly fancy, but I was down with that. It simply wouldn't be necessary. Props to the staff. They were cheerful, kind and helpful. Oh, forgot to mention prices, which were very fair. Today my buddy picked up the bill, so I felt like I got a whole lot for the money! We ordered beer, margaritas, chips and salsa, guac, jackfruit tacos with orange mole sauce, a big beef burrito with rojo sauce and topped with queso, and an order of the quesadillas with rice and beans. Everything was really great! The guac is ON POINT. Tastes so fresh I'd believe it was made in the future. Love the salsa. It had fresh cilantro flavor and was a great consistency for greedy chip dippers like myself that use chips as socially acceptable way to spoon salsa into my gullet. The quesadillas came with pico, sour cream, and guac and they were incredible. I don't know how they packed so much flavor into what appears to be a normal beef quesadilla. Those things are definitely worth coming back for. They offer burrito bowls, which is great if you're cutting out carbs, but I have a feeling I'm coming back for the quesadillas anyway. Once again, Yelp steers me right. This is a very simple little place with pleasant, but simple decor. This is a college area, and this fits that vibe, including the "order at the counter and pay first" process. We got chips and queso, which were great--really, better than average. My date got the fried green tomatoes, which she didn't care for. But I got a chicken burrito that was DELICIOUS. Fresh ingredients-fresh tomatoes and lettuce, well seasoned chicken, perfect seasoning. Really, one of the best burritos I've had in a long time. So, again: simple little place with a pretty simple menu, and really good food (other than the fried green tomatoes that just lack much flavor). The food was not what I was expecting, but it was ok. I tried their house specialty, the fried chicken tacos, that they prepare several different ways. We ordered the "verde" and the "cheesy". They were ok but had too much corn in my opinion, and were served rather cold for my taste. Someone in our party ordered the burrito to give it a try and it was pretty good. The service was good and friendly. You place your order and pay at the entrance and then your food is brought to your table. Although it was not very full, the place seemed a bit dingy.
