Lovely gallery space that also serves as the home to "one of the largest providers of free art…read moreeducation and outreach programs in Kitsap County, serving close to 10,000 youth, adults, and seniors each year through more than 100 programs--inside and outside our gallery space" (pulled from their website). My mother and I visited here as one of our first stop when arriving on Bainbridge Island recently, and we loved sauntering through and viewing all the crafts and art pieces made by local artisans. I especially enjoyed finding some pieces by an artist named Peter Koronakos, for example, who creates "oddball animals" assemblage pieces - my favorite on display being the "Squirrel with Hand Grenade". There was also a lovely Pileated Woodpecker carved piece by a Seattle-based artist named Mike Zitka (who, after I just Googled him, apparently has a feature collection currently going at KOBO Seattle - who knew!). Just some examples of the fantastic work available in this gallery. There's also a special section of the gallery that has for sale specific art and design books that the purchase of will support new material for the Bainbridge Public Library. How can you not love that?! All in all, it's a great, little gallery that I loved being able to support. Definitely stop by if you're in the area and show this local gallery - and the artisans that show their work here - some support. They deserve it. :)

There's tons to see and learn and knowledgeable docents to add their personal knowledge and life experience. First of all, meeting Dan felt like meeting a celebrity to me because I've watched so many of his…read morevideos. But aside from being starstruck, I was absolutely floored by the sheer number of incredible bonsai, many of which were absolutely world class. Most of his trees have a very rustic, rough/natural appeal, TONS of deadwood and shari/jin features, none of his junipers are styled in the traditional Japanese or Chinese methods, but I could see many of these trees winning prizes in the national here in the state's. Especially his azaleas and rock plantings. Dan was very down to earth and happy to talk shop endlessly even though we showed up on their day off accidentally (Apple Maps wasn't updated to their winter hours). Despite this, after hearing that I was a true bonsai fanatic his lovely wife allowed me in and let us roam free. Needless to say I was in heaven! We were on our way to a hike so we had to leave after only an hour, but I could easily have spent a full day there. Dan apparently will take offers on his extraordinary trees. Lord knows he has plenty! Had I known that going in I might have looked at them differently, as potential purchases. He had sold a lovely 60-year-old bougainvillea to a woman and was showing her how to train it. All of which cost her less than $600 surprisingly! All things considered, it was truly a wonderful experience and next time I'm in Puget Sound I'm definitely going back (with some money).

The lady owner with blonde hair kept following us inside the store and outside. It made us feel really uncomfortable because she was just following us and didn't say anything. It was nice of her to show us around, but she kept on following us. Especially this older gentleman. We still didn't know if they wanted us to leave or if they liked us. You have to pay to go out back and see all the bonsai. Inside is cool. We couldn't see most of it because in some areas it's hard to get around.

Frankly I have never been into art as much until I visited BIMA. It changed my perspective on art…read moreand made me realize what I have been missing all these years. The art gallery is small but don't let that fool you. The staff and the docents took the time to explain their collection. It felt more like a guided tour and made all the difference. Their permanent exhibits feature many local artists like Aisha Harrison. While I don't have photos to post except a couple (Seattle during the pandemic), I would love for you to visit and experience it in person. There is no entrance fee though donations are encouraged. There is a bistro and a gift shop. On select days they have an outdoor market and a live band. What's not to like!!!

"Only survivors. Art requires survivors and sacrifices." The art ranges from pairings to sculptures. The subject matter ranges from kid-friendly to adult-only.

The art walk makes me a little sad sometimes, because if you're an art lover Bremerton is not the…read moreplace. Best that can be said is not all of it is dreadful, a tiny portion wouldn't look out of place in a real city gallery, but most of it would look merely okay on the wall of a hotel restaurant. But I'll give the walk a good rating anyway because it's well attended on a warm evening, and people are in good moods and friendly. It's an authentic way to meet people, though if you're honest to peoples' faces about the local "talent" most will look at you like you're so darned rude. So put on a happy face, tell whoppers about how cool the art is, and make friendly. And be on the look-out for the face that silently replies, "You really think THIS shit is good??" so you'll know to laugh at yourself and say, "No, not really, this salmons, lighthouses, and seagulls on broken piers stuff makes us all look like The Egg & I hillbillies," and you may have just met someone who could be an intelligent real friend.

A fun community event!…read more My Labor Day road-trip was centered around this festival, and I was excited to check out all things blackberry. Turns out, pretty much only the snack and dessert vendors featured blackberry, but there were other local food and craft vendors to check out, as well as live music. And if the crowd felt suffocating, at least I was able to walk into the marina area to catch my breath. Parking was a little challenging, but luckily for me, I scored one of the free one-hour stalls on Second Street. Here is my ranking of my blackberry finds: 1. Blackberry of Mirkwood and lemon heat-slayer ice cream from Viking Ice Cream ($7): extremely refreshing for a hot Labor Day weekend. The blackberry flavor was pronounced, and the ice cream was creamy. Paired super well with the sweet-tart lemon flavor. 2. Blackberry dessert wine ($14): beautiful with ice cream or cheesecake, and bursting with blackberry flavor. Pasek Cellars actually regularly makes and sells this in stores; it's just that the Blackberry Festival bottles have a special label. 3. Blackberry kettle corn ($10): lovely blackberry flavor from whichever kettle corn kernels got the flavoring. Wish it was coated with more of the blackberry flavor though, felt like it was a teeny bit sparse. 4. Blackberry lavender cream soda ($6/8 oz cup): it tasted like an unflavored cream soda, to be honest. I couldn't taste the lavender or the blackberry... I also wish each vendor sold at least one thing blackberry-themed, since it *was* the blackberry festival after all. Thankful to have gotten to check it out and to savor my leftovers, though. Will I be back next year? If I have the weekend off again, 80% likely. The things I tried were mostly great, and it's always a good time along a boat marina!

With all…read morethe visitors driving right down by Washington Street, and pedestrians all over the place, not paying any attention to the vehicles, I'm sure there will be accidents. The city will be at fault because they are ding nothing to control movement. Very dangerous situation that needs to be taken care of. Why is the city not taking any responsibility for this situation?
